What do you do to keep cool?
We fight the molemen for water
Anyway, it'd be cool to have VAs here too. Of course, the cast hasn't even been announced yet, so it might be a while

Firstly, I must express my gratitude to FUNi for giving One Piece a second chance. Looking at how big Naruto is in the US, a good dub could potentially give One Piece popularity in America as well.
Honestly, I never saw a problem with Zolo. I prefer Zoro since that's what Oda wrote and sounds cooler, but it's not like changing a letter will change anything about his character, so it's not a problem for me.
Now G. Zass, that's just hilarious.
G Zess should be replaced by Jeez S.
I can't see why any rational person would have a problem with the voice actors (and I'm one of the crazy Zoro fanatics)…. you know, so long as they didn't suck.
If I remember right, Garaa's dub is kinda bad. It's been a while since I watched Toonami though but I remember not liking it very much.
I am very interested on who they're going to get to play Vivi.... and if that poor girl has medical insurance for her voice. Of course, I guess I'll be at least a couple years before the dub gets to Laboon so who knows what'll happen by then.
God.... that's kind of a depressing thought. It's going to take forever to get to Arabasta.
^
Personally I want to see the Skypian and later arcs in Dub 1st
G. Zass walks with me…what's the G stand for? This is the only thing bothering me really.
edit: wrong thread. Well anyways go FUNI! Show off Jaya flashily! So many characters there its smurftastic
Something tells me "G. Zass Christ!" is gonna end up being the One Piece version of "What the HFIL!?" from Dragonball fandom XD;
One thing you guys might wanna remember by the way, is that we may be getting little 'previews' of what certain characters sound like. Remember that Buggy and Ace, for instance, appear in the episode after Masira first shows up, and those're two major characters right off the bat. Plus Vivi and several others make a couple other cameo appearances throughout random episodes.

First time I remember seeing Vivi after Arabasta is the recent Edo era eps. I hope to god they don't have Enies Lobby dubbed before Arabasta.
Just to let it be known, there's only been one Mellorine so far and it's in there. Dunno if it'll be in the dub, though. I even made like 3 or 4 big notes in bold explaining it for people who might see it down the road and be like, "What's this?"
Thank you Mato! I'm happy to hear one of Sanji's trademarks hasn't been overlooked. :)
Just came from NF, so I'm wondering, what are the chances of the Funi VAs chatting with us at Arlong Park?
I'll put in a word when I get some Navarre stock, but…
It's too expensive. ;-;
I really never had a problem with Zolo. It's just that I didn't like how $Kids pronounced it (dragging out the o's and emphasising the l). I do have a problem with a lot of the other name changes though (G. Zess, mantora, etc). As long as Funi changes the stupid name changes back and gets decent VA's, I'll have no problem with the dub .
Mato, you should try to get G.Zass changed to something like Geezuz or Jezuss. That would be a better name and I think it would be something Funi or Toei could go along with. I know that you're only a translator and don't have power over Funi but the names I suggested could still be passed on to Toei for consideration.

I just can't see why, considering the way he's dressed, nobody thought of changing the pronunciation of his name to Jesús.

Like "Hey, Zues!"? XD; My friend suggested the same thing.
^What's wrong with Xexat?

The church I went to as a child used that pronunciation quite often (not as much as Jesus, but still…)
I never understood why Jesus is like a taboo name for TV. Yeah he has a huge number of followers but come on its not like he was a tyrant, and Jesus is a real name there are people still named Jesus.
T.V. networks don't want to get sued by Atheist who feel that religion is getting pushed onto their kids through name association. It's a dumb reason, but that's all it takes.
does that mean the scene with zoro after he fights the skyshark will be censored?

Yeah right. "Jesus" as a Mexican wrestler pirate and you think it's the athiests that are going to flip out?

Oh god, they cannot but they probably will. ><
That was one of the most badass things Zoro said.

Uh, refresh my memory. What exactly did Zoro say?
Was it "Even that damn fish dared to eat me. My training is still incomplete" or something along those lines. I remember him saying something along those lines after slicing up a sky fish of some sort.

No zoro said that he never prayed to god.
Let me find the clip on youtube.hope this explains what I mean if it will eb censored or not

I'd have no problem with that. I thought his name was Jesús from the start anyway . But I was wrong  . It´s basically the same thing anyway, just pronounced differently.

They probably don't want anyone offended, though it is a bit absurd at times, like when someone says 'God Dammit' the god is censored but the dammit isn't which I always found a bit amusing.
Maybe on tv they should call him "G. Zess" or whatever, but on the uncut dvd's call him "Jesus".
They call him Burgess most of the time anyway, right? You know, in his three(four, maybe) actual appearances so far.
So it doesn't matter.

You know, I wonder what fundamentalist Christian protestants do when they're at their child's graduation ceremony and the valedictorian of Mexican descent's name turns out to be "Jesus Gomez". Would they flip out?
Frankly, I don't see any problem in calling someone "Jesus", or even "hey-sus" - Christ, maybe, but Jesus? Heck no.
There isn't anything inherently special about the name Jesus. It's a derivative of Joshua and was extremeley common at the time Jesus lived.
Actually to be precise his name is "Yeshua", Jesus is a Greek interpretation.

Gaara is my 2nd favorite Naru character and he sounds near perfect in that dub. 97% of the damn cast does. Sometimes the acty is just 'okay' or 'decent' but the same can be said for the japanese version. I watched 100+ eps of Naruto and in many case I prefer it english. Yuri Lowenthal actually makes me LIKE SASUKE because his voice work makes him too awesome to ignore. Naruto fans seem to complain about that dub simply because it's not in Japanese or something. Seriously, all the voices are cast pretty much a near or near perfect match to the Japanese seiyuus. Some are BETTER than japanese actors and ppl STILL complain. I prefer watching anime subbed and I'm usually the first to point out problems with dubs but I rarely find them with that dub. It AMAZES me that people constantly whine about it. If OP got that kinda dub I'd buy three freakin boxsets even IF they changed Zoro's name to "Mr.Lame from suckville" in the dub.
Actually I thought Mato had said earlier that he was subbing the weird laughs..guess not.
No zoro said that he never prayed to god.

Oh, yes of course. I remember that line, I just forgot when he said and I couldn't think of it. Yeah, that was a pretty badass line.
For me, Naruto's got one of those dubs where both the sub and dub get engraved into my mind and I can't tell the difference. That happened with Inuyasha. I'd see episodes of Inuyasha on Adult Swim and not be able to remember if I'd seen it dubbed already or if I'd seen it subbed. You just get so used to both casts that it doesn't matter either way.
The only bad voices in the Naruto dub are Jyurai and Orochimaru. Orochimaru needs a deep feminine accent… just like Zophise from the Gash Bell dub... why do the dub actors use raspy voices...? It doesn't sound as great IMO.

Those two are perfect, IMO. I only dislike Choji's voice because it sounds weird.

Hehe, I actually agree with you there.
Except I'm pretty sure you mean Jiraiya not Jyurai…
Now that'd be neat. A Naruto/Tenchi crossover. Tenchi comes to Konoha to get some ninja training (Tsunade owes Katsuhito a favor) and Sakura and Ino completely forget about Sasuke and compete with Ayeka and Ryoko for his affections.

Nothing new at all, but cynopsis has now stated that FUNi's new dub would be "season 3"… And DBZ's dub switch was also during it's season 3.
...
Just thought that was pretty neat. ^_^;
then season 1 should be up to arlong arc and 2 to Alabasta right?
Well I think it's great that with a huge majority of the DB/DBZ cast doing both the Japanese and now English version and is pretty funny too.
then season 1 should be up to arlong arc and 2 to Alabasta right?
4kids defined season 1 as everything up to Drum Island and Season 2 as Alabasta and post-Alabasta fillers. That's how CN picked up the series.
So it'd be like this…
season 1: Morgan arc through Drum
season 2: Alabasta to Rainbow Mist
season 3 (new dub): Jaya and Skypeia to G8
And so on and so on... That's if it continues in this pattern.
I have a feeling that if none of the episodes were cut those two seasons would turn out being three.
Considering there's 44 episodes between the beginning of the show and the end of the Arlong arc, those are some pretty !@#$ing big seasons.
Well, the end of the Arlong arc in the 4Kids dub is 39, I think…
But still, Drum in the 4Kids dub ends at 58, and that's what they count as the "end of the first season", so it's still pretty big...
Well, if you count East Blue as one "season" and Baroque Works as the second one, then Skypiea would still be considered the third.
Now that FUNimation is starting at episode 144, they sure got a lot of extra work ahead of them if they plan to do the whole series, especially if they want to do it quickly, which is sure as hell what I want. I've said before that I want to see those first 143 episodes on Cartoon Network/Toonami Jetsrteam quickly so that by the time the next season rolls around (after episode 206) the entire FUNimation dub is just about caught up on broadcast. I mean the plot holes 4Kids creatted should at least be cleard up. Yeah, it's unrealistic, I'm asking for a lot, but by the time early 2007 rolls around and CN starts running the series from the beginning (not 4Kids version of course) at 5-6 days a week, that would work. But of course I'm not a cruel person, I wouldn't want them to do that if it's so stressful, and I know they're already working really hard, that their A-team is making the company's quickest production. That's why I hope they're having more fun working on this series than they would with most other anime, I know I would.
By the way, who thinks the T.V. specials would work as extras for the DVDs?
Season one, missing over 30 episodes form the original, went from episode 1 to the second to last episode of Drum. Season 2 based on 4Kid's version is the last episode of Drum and onwards until the end of Rainbow Mist.
I can still remember those lame promos on FoxBox for "Nami getting Grand Line Fever" and such. Blech!!!!
It was amazing how Drum took about as long to air as the rest of the first "season" did only to end it without doing the last episode of Drum, saving that for the next season. Guess they figured they'd count it as after Drum or something because it's mostly them sailing and having a party to celebrate Chopper.
Drum isle is probably the 1st arc I saw in the dub and seen 4 times.. Just didnt understand why CN never reaired Ep.1 and kept going back to Drum isle after 1 point in alabasta(which muight be Ep.77)
Hope this time they can do Dub reruns Mon-fri or at least around 6-10PM
Yep, "One Piece" gets bad ratings on FoxBox, they skip a bunch of episodes to get to Chopper, doesn't help the ratings. And they don't even get to make some Tony Chopper merchandise that the kids will just buy up.
Well the thing is, they might want to hurry and eventually catch up to Water 7. Since EvilgamerX was told they aren't working on games at the moment, they might try to at least get to the point where some of the characters are introduced so they can release Unlimited Adventure. Just a thought.
On the other hand even though it would seem like they're not working on any movies, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a secret Funi has up it's sleeved to be announced at AX. I mean, Funi wants to help fans, but I think their top priority is really to reinvigorate the OP franchise in America. And showing an Edited for TV version of say Movie 4 would work wonders, then most of the people who would always skip out on OP whether it wa sjust uninteresting to them or turned off by the dub, will be more likely to sit down and watch it as none of their other favorite Toonami shows are on. That and considering they've confirmed on working on up to Episode 205, that would include G8 which is connected with the movies.
Man, it's going to be a LONG wait til July.
