@Pants-eater:
With my tiny, miniscule knowledge of Japanese, I'm pretty sure that made no sense.
With my mediocre level of Japanese knowledge I concur.
I actually have studied abit of Japanese and do continue to study it when I have free time,which is why I was aware of the misromanization that does happen when SOME Japanese translate R's and L's.
Also, even though I've been living in the States for 10 years, I didn't know the word "rogue" until it was mentioned here in APF
Then please don't claim to know more Japanese than us native english speakers. I knew the word rogue existed in elementary school. Also you're accusing me of assuming things about what Oda knows and doesn't know but you're the one claiming to know EXACTLY what he was thinking.
It's obvious. That's like saying "Britney Spears has blond hair?
umm..Britney Spear's hair isn't blonde. She dyes it,but since you refuse to listen and consider other people's points of views and opinions before you scream and rant about how sure you are about things you couldn't possibly know for 100% sure, you probably won't listen to that either.
it's obviously a reference to Logue, there is absolutely NOTHING that references Rogue but plenty for Logue. Are you still not getting the Prologue Epilogue thing?
Maybe you should worry less about my Japanese knowledge and more about your own english skills. Go back and READ the 2-3 list of reasons why ROGUE makes sense. Also make sure to check out the part where I say MAYBE IT IS LOGUE so ppl can STFU already. Unlike you, I actually paid attention to the reasoning behing Logue and the reasoning behind Rogue. There are valid reasons for EACH translation. Personally rogue has more reasoning behind it whether it's the correct one or not. That's the reason why I think it MAY be the more accurate translation.
While I haven't seen many, I can see the logic in their wording and romanizations with only knowing very basic Japanese and picking out a word or two, here and there.
That's equivalent of saying I've never had any feet,BUT I THINK I KNOW HOW TO PICK OUT THE BEST PAIR OF SHOES! Also I am not saying "OMFG Kaizoku got it all wrong!" I am saying there are a few like Bon Kurei, Ener, and Hiruluk that are MORE accurate in the 4kids/Viz versions.
I'm sorry, but your counter argument is about as flawed as your original ones.
You don't seem to understand my argument. My arguement is that the Japanese L and english R are almost indestinguishable. This has already been explained by many many people, including the forum members. One of the posters already bought up Alucard,being written ARUCARD even by the official creators. If one japanese make the wrong choice for a word when writing it in english, ODA could too. That is my argument.
Maybe he did and it's rogue, maybe he didn't and it's meant to be logue. Just because it says beginning and end in the town description isn't conclusive proof for rogue. Purely because there are TONS of words that could be used for a beginning and end that DON'T contain "Logue."
sighs I'm learned to just ignore Ao Kiji, he is far too stubborn.
…yeeaaahhha. Obviously if I say "Hey, did you ever consider this? Maybe you should think about it. It's possible,right?' And a bunch of people ignore completely valid points and just shove their opinion at me because it's the popular one and just make personal attacks or scream WRONG BECAUSE I SAID SO AND I AM OBVIOUSLY RIGHT..because..because..I AM! I just know it!!! I am the one being stubborn. Obviously. It's not like I said "hey you could be right, but I think this other translation is also a possiblity." Oh wait. Yes,yes I did. It's not like I said, call it whatever the hell you want,but respect other's opinion as well...oh wait. That's EXACTLY what happened!
Now just drop it. I never said ZOLO was the accurate english name, I never said FLANKY is the proper way to spell it. Stop putting words in my mouth, the way you're saying it's OBVIOUS what he meant, when it isn't at all. If it was so obvious NONE of the translators would've used Roguetown which BOTH official translators did. If it was that OBVIOUS, the name of the damn town would've been PrologueEpiloguetown.
Stop acting like your world is falling apart because someone has a difference of opinion on what a word could be. I just wanted to explain the reasoning behind why it could be Rogue,which I did. And there IS logical reasoning behind it, whether it really is rogue or not. Now let's move on and use the thread for what it's supposed to be used for. The people who were open minded have seen both points and shared their opinion. And because of the intricate nature of Japanese to english translations, there is room for debate. We have debated. End of argument. Unless Oda learns english and post here, there is no definite winner. But as far as the Funi dub, it's probably gonna be called ROGUEtown..so brace yourself.
