Yea, I heard about him having time off cus he was ill, I just thought that he had gotten over that by now lol. Its a shame because its a really good manga, one that is usually ignored compared to others like Naruto and Bleach, yet it is probably as good as each.

Imo, its 10x better than both series, but like 10x less popular.
I like how in depth it goes into fighting. It explains why they can take a volleyball that breaks mountains with their bodies. So its more "realistic" in that way. Not to mention how it doesnt follow cliche shounen rules. "Yopu can actually not know if someone is going to live or die while reading. EX: Pokkuru)
Imo, its better than one piece in some areas. The thing that makes one piece better in my eyes tho is the characters. Story is good too, but one piece is the only anime where I dont hate any characters(except buggy, but thats due to my dislike of clowns and his cheap ass in GBR)
so Imo, Hunter is probobly the best put together shounen manga you can read. Only downside is that togashi isnt the most consistant mangaka(in health or art work) so as far as we know, this may never be completed.
-
actually Hunter X Hunter is one of the most popular shounen to grace Jump offices
Togashi-ism
(translated from the Japanese Wikipedia article) Since the phenomenal success of Hunter × Hunter, several major changes have been made at the offices of Shonen Jump, specifically to accommodate Yoshihiro Togashi. He receives longer vacations and bigger advances than any of Shonen Jump's other mangaka, and this situation has come to be known as "Togashi-ism".
-from wiki
and HxH is still mentioned in SJ every week because I think the editors can't wait to have it back either.

It was still behind naruto, bleach, and one piece when it was active in jump tho.
The editors love it, but it dont have as many fans as the "Big 3".
and wiki has jedi listed as a religion, and this one chinese prime minister making an appearance in the FMA manga. Its not that reliable.
-
Actually whenever volumes of Hunter x Hunter go on sale, they easily outsell anything else in Jump besides One Piece.
-
You know nobody stays sick THIS FUCKING long unless they have a some-what incurable desease, so Im just curious and sorry if I asked this before, but what on earth is Toshagis illness?

Hes not sick, hes on a vacation.
Its good hes taking a break, so he doesnt get bored and rush things (cough yu yu hakusho cough) Let him take his time, Hunter will only be better for it.

Wasn't it as well as to do research?
-
im just scared wondering whether hes actually dead or not…
-
I love how everyone on the internet knows exactly what's going on with him, when they don't.
-
Srsly
16 characters of affirmation.
-
The sick thing was a rumor.
So the only thing that can be assumed is hes on a long break(Jump still lists Hunter as one of its series', so he hasnt dropped it)
Im merely saying this break is a good thing, so we dont get a crappy rushed conclusion to this arc(and the series) like the demon world arc in Yu yu hakusho.
I think thats all we can assume at this point.
-
Word on the street is he took the break to play RPG's he couldn't play because he was too busy.
Sorry to say it. I dunno about HxH as I never read it and whatnot but….
what an asshole.
-
Dragon Quest is serious business, Greg.
-
haha! Agreed, but he's basically screwing over fans just to do what he wants. No respect for that. If you wanna have that attitude, finish your work first.
I mean can you imagine what would happen if Oda just suddenly said:
"Screw you all. I must clear WoW."
Chaos

I would hunt him down, and make him go. hell if he stared playing that he'd never return.
but yeah that is pretty bad, but everyone needs a vaction,
-
but a 10 month vacation? (last chapter came out in april I think)
Come on people.
-
So he took this break to play RPGs? Good reason if u ask me, but I wonder if it's to do with his research?
Well I hope he's having fun tho. -
RPG?… man.
Okay, say he has a good reason for not continuing. GET SOME DAMN ASSISTANTS! >>
He tells the story, they do the stuff, he fixes up wrong panels and lines.
Seiously man, your wife's a mangaka.Hell, you're bound to find a WHOLE PAGE without backround every chapter! Just a character with black/white [lately white, less work] and a bubble.
He had volume covers with chibis ><Anyways, the latest arc with the ants is the worst yet. But, what's worst in HxH when all the others are so awesome? The latest arc is cool too.
What I really loved there is the unexpected results [not like Greed Island, who kept itself good for the question "How they would win?", but you actually can't foreshadow here anythng], the biology stuff and animal traits.
Expecially the scene when Netero comes in with two other after mentioning "bringing reinfocement". That was pure genius. Then you see how Gon acts to Killua's actions only to have! Kaito dead.

Post…...so hard to understand.
Imo, the battle tower was the worst arc. Too fight focused.
Foreshadowing and predicting mean two different things. You meant to use the latter.
I dont see how biology has anything to do with netero.
and what do you mean that because Gon acted to killua, Kaito dies ?
WHat I found ironic was that because Killua and Gon used Nen against that one ant, and let him live, the WHOLE ant population gained Nen. So the reason they are such a threat is due to that one mistake.
-
but a 10 month vacation? (last chapter came out in april I think)
Wow what a jerk! and that he still gets paid even whilst taking year long vacations to loiter about is mind-boogling, in any other line of work hed have gotten his ass fired long ago.
-
Dragon Quest is serious business, Greg.
Indeed… If I remember right the day a new Dragon Quest comes out everyone takes off work to play it. XD
-
its a holiday I believe.

Sorry my English sucks so bad. =(
Umm.. yeah, predicting I guess. Thanks.
It doesn't have anything with Netero, I meant each alone..
When Gon convinced Killua Kaito's alive, and cheering him up from what Netero's dudes said.
Well, that's an example how Togashi builds his arcs. ^^
Battle Tower the worst? Why? I liked it. At least the first part untill they got to the 200th floor, it was fun.
What I didn't like though is that Togashi explained Hisoka's battle along with his abilities. Togashi's way too logical to leave things unexplained, like the thing with thr drug factory and the history of that poor kid [who was the head of NGL]. -
thats one of the biggest pluses in his writting sceme IMO is that he puts actual strategy into his fights and its not always who can pull the bigger technique out of his or her ass that wins.
-
Yes. Its like a shounen manga, where characters survive hits that crush mountains, but it explains why they can. It goes that far indepth to the fights, which is a major plus imo.
I didnt like battle tower because it was too fight and training focused. I like more story and plot developments occuring.
-

Same with me. I was this close to dropping it when hearing that a big tournament was held at the top of the tower. Thank goodness Gon and Killua left that awful shonen tower, and hopefully we won't have to see it again.
-
Aside from the dodgeball game and the refreshingly perverted Biscuit Krueger, I thought Greed Island was incredibly BORING.

gon losing an arm from bomber's attack is boring?!?!

LOL, when Gon and Killua said they didnt feel like going to the top, I was like "Im gonna like this series." Everyone knows luffy would have gone to the top. XD
I liked greed island alot tho. Stuff witht he bomber, and strategies. That one guy hired by the rich dude running from the bombers was very exciting imo. Dodgeball fight was one of my favorite anime fights ever.
Not to mention Gon letting both his arms take an explosion and kick the shit out of the bombers chin. I mean who honestly would have thought of that in that situation, let alone have the balls to do it? Its stuff like that that makes hunter my 2nd favorite series.
-

No it was all that blither blather about the cards and the training in Book 15.
-
Yeah if it wasn't for the dodgeball and the end of greed island, I would have hated it. Urgh the training arc was just horrid Xx
-

The crd thing annoyed me at the beginning, but the story kept me interested. I mean with the cards, I thought it was going to change the whole direction of the manga(like get backers. Shudder) or like shaman king and those huge megazord oversouls.
Good thing it was temporary, and not that bad.

So, I just finished the Genai Ryodan Arc. I must say I'm very pleased with the story, characters, etc. Hunter X Hunter is definitely one of my favorite series now. Togashi definitely pulled of the Revenge Plot Device to perfection. And Lucifer is just a badass design as a Arc Villian. I also loved the very serious tone the series took with this arc.
However, I found one glaring problem. Not that fights are required to have a good series, but with a fighting system as in depth and developed as Nen, Don't you think there outta be ya know, actual fights. There's only like a handful of fights in the entire series and only 2 of the fights are good.
That's a bit of a letdown, but other than that, I love just about everything. Now, to pray that Togashi starts again around the time I check out Greed Island.

Yeah, the Ryodan arc was probably the highlight of the series (at least for me). Not to say that I didn´t enjoy the rest, but this was really masterful! If Togashi ever comes in shape again and decides to continue I´ll be surely there … alas there seem to be little to no hints that this might happen soon:sad:.

I take it your watching the anime, since the best fight in the series and IMO the best fight in anime / manga I have read was removed from the anime and happens during Celestial tower, and he seems to amp up the amount of fights in GI and NGL
-
I really enjoyed Killua fighting all those random ants(monkey, octo sniper, dart board ants) That was one of my favorite fights along with the Dodgeball one.
-
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xar6s_gon-we-will-rock-you
something I threw together, GI spoilers and small Celestial Tower spoilers
-
Well I actually decided to check out the first episode of the anime today. I have to say I kinda liked it. I actually found no complaints. I may even continue watching or at least start the manga at some point.
-
Stoptazmo's got all the chapters in case you do.
-
just dont judge HXH with the first 2 ep…at first, id thought HXH was about hunting animals
my fav hxh amv :D to me, the music actually matches the video… -

I'm about 30 percent through Greed Island. Good arc so far (except for the Yugioh aspect).
Also, I'm noticing severe Yaoi undertones. Seriously, why is Hisoka staring at little kids' asses? That's just not right man.
-

Well apparently you're not the only one who thinks that… Apparently a good number of the fanbase seems to believe that Hisoka is sexually excited when it comes to Gon, Killua, and Kuroro. At least that's what it says on the wikipedia article.
-
I noticed the yaoi before, but I just thought it was Hisoka being wierd as usual. But when he started staring at their asses, I knew something was not right. Other than that, Hisoka is badass all the way.
On another note, I just finished Greed Island, It managed to hold my interest all the way through. And I finally got my wish of some decent fights. The Video Game theme was a very neat concept even though I hate Card Games with a passion.
So far, I give the entire Hunter X Hunter seriess a 7.5 out of 10. Mainly because the first arc was dreadfully long and the fights still need a bit of work. Everything else is just fine tho, especially the character design and story.
I'll probably get around to started the Chimera arc next month or so.
-

Aw I'm sure Gon and Killua had a super special awesome time playing card games.
-
Hisoka gets excited fighting strong opponents, he just sees Gon's and Killua's potential as future strong opponents
heh Gaara your almost at dodgeball get ready.
-
Ah well I did say I liked it just from the first episode alone. I just have to find time to read up on it that's all.
ok thats good…cuz it seems that many people quit watching HXH after the first ep
-
Yea, Luckily I read the manga first.
First manga chapter >>>> First episode.
I couldnt get past episode 1. Especially since Gon had naruto's voice.
