I think the name Jinbei is a red herring. Something tells me he won't even look like a whale shark, He might turn out to be a lobster or some or some other aquatic animal we've never heard of. But I've been wrong before.

I'm inclined to think that he'll be a really, REALLY big fishman. I'm also inclined to think that he's going to be more of a problem than some people here think he will be, but I also think that this arc is going to be much shorter than Water 7 + Enies Lobby arc. Of course, no matter how many times we post or how many times we shout at each other, no one knows what's going to happen other than Oda and his team, so we'll have to just wait and see.

My prediction is the arc will be a good 50+chapters. Not too long, but not too short. At least I hope
I'm also inclined to believe that besides being a fishman, he'll have some other abilities that other fishmen don't have. Such as "sharks with frikin laser beams."

All fishmen we have seen so far have been gigantic. Also, considering with the likes of Blackbeard, Whitebeard, Seakings, regular giants, Gear 3rd Luffy, Lucci in Leopard form, hell even Arlong and most of the Gyojin were a few feet taller than most humans. That is why I would like to see Jinbei a head shorter than the usual Gyojin. I just think it would be a funny moment when we are finally introduced to Jinbei, King of the Fishmen, quite possibly the most powerful creature in the ocean, and he is the runt of the litter. He can still be imposing and damn powerful, I just think that would be funny and a nice comic relief moment.

That would be funny and ironic if Jinbei was a shrimp (in size as well as in looks). Also, short people can be quite menacing. Snoop (from The Wire) scares the sh*t out of me and I live in a ghetto.
Jinbei's gonna be so badass, it's not even funny. Can't wait to see Oda's mind at work again.
EDIT: Another crazy idea, he'll look like the guy in my sig and ava, only he'll be a shark. Now you can't tell me that isn't stylish & badass.

You know? I'd laugh like hell if Jimbei was feminine. Instead of this big bad whale shark that eats rats for breakfast, kittens for lunch and bunnies for tea, we get a tu-tu wearing, flower planting, Designing Women-watching wimp.
I really hope Jimbei is different than what we think, maybe he'll be a shrimp or something.

Jimbei is a Whale Shark, one of the largest MAMMALS in the world.
So I think that rules out Jimbei being a Whale shark, seeing as he's a Fish-man… Not sure what else he could be though, maybe he's a shark too. Maybe he won't even appear in the arc at all, anybody considered that a possibility?

well, FFA is wrong this time. Whales are mammals, yes, but Whale Sharks are definitely fish. They're just really, really big sharks, even though they're similar to whales in many other respects (they don't eat large animals, for example).

I'd be pretty disappointed if we didn't see him. Although he hasn't been built up to the extent of Blackbeard or Doflamingo he's still a villain we're familiar with which is a trend that we didn't have with well…any of the previous ones. And by build up I mean mention outside of the arc they are the main antagonists in. Jinbei was mentioned in the Arlong Arc and even with just his name people are itching to see him.
Also, as for people mentioning the possibility of Luffy just beating the ever-loving crap out of him without much of an effort, I say foo on that idea. Although you do have Johnny and Yosaka (sp?) mention that Arlong is just as strong as Jinbei, this was just a way to mention Arlong as a threat before we ever met him. At that time what did we know about Shichibukai. We knew Mihawk was one, and we knew Mihawk kicked ass. That's about it. There are numerous ways around their statement, even if we do take two East Blue bounty hunters at their word. I would be distraught if Jinbei was anything but an absolute powerhouse of mad gyojin might.

In response to Gaara d. Lucci's sig looking like Jinbei, I can really see Jinbei wearing pants. I don't know why, I just think he'll be wearing pants. Maybe not shoes, but definately pants. Afterall, pants make the man. And a fishman wearing pants would be more imposing that without. In fact, I can see him in a complete suit and tie get-up. I'm not sure who said it, but someone stated that Arlong and crew were dressed like low-rent thugs from the mob or Yakuza. Imagine Jinbei wearing complete, Italian formal wear, with a slit in the back for his fin. That makes my brain explode from the sheer awesome of it.
