itβs the third impact Shinji.

Ok but like...if no. 9 had dumped all those kaiju on the defense force earlier...most of the squad still wouldn't be kicking? the top squad members barely survived their respective battles; if all these new kaiju were piled on at the same time no. 9 would probably have won pretty easily???
Just kind of dumb.
-
I wish i could find no. 9 to be a compelling villain but i don't.
-
#9 has been busy in the bedroom, so to speak.

Me either. So far he's just been extremely smug and overly powerful, which does not make for a fun or compelling villain, just aggravating. He's the weakest point in the series.
-
@Satsuki
He is a monster with viral properties who is also fascinated about mimicking humans. He is also a mastermind and mad scientist with endless resources apparently since he can just pull out monsters out of nowhere when the plot requires it. -
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1019747
Still going strong. Mina has been a non-character for most of the series, #9 isn't any more compelling than he was last month and we have yet to see anything interesting from Kafka, but somehow I'm hanging to the edge of my seat nonetheless. Maybe because I'm expecting Kafka to rise to the challenge and perform some interesting feat.
-
Ch 98:
Oh no who can possibly help save all the citizens?!?!? (Reno and co.)
What about the wounded and fatigued officers?!?!? (Reno and co.)
Who can help save Mina?!?!?! (Reno and co.)Zero tension knowing there's a very good chance Reno and friends are floating around somewhere waiting for a grand entrance.
Maybe I'm in for a pleasant surprise, but I'm not holding my breath.
-
How many times is this ark going to make us say, "Oh, fuck."?

Good point. Number 9 mentioned number 6 and the devastation it caused in it's time. Guess who has the Number 6 suit?

Sigh. On top of things happening exactly as anticipated, it took a whole chapter of building up hollow tension before we eventually got there and it was still your typical shonen instant badass rescue that breaks my suspension of disbelief... Forget what I wrote last time, I'm not hanging to my seat anymore.
It's a shame, really. I re-read the first couple chapters this week and I still love the early setting when Kafka is on the clean-up team and has to hide his monster powers. Feels like a completely different manga.
I wish it had stayed that way. -
Oh look who showed up. Who'd have guessed it? (me and everyone else).
Zero tension this arc.
Zero stakes. The only thing that surprised me this week is getting back to back chapters. Wasn't expecting to get one this week but I suppose they had to shuffle the release a bit to accommodate for holiday breaks.
-
This is a perfect example of an author choosing a "cool" entrance over respecting the internal logical of the story they created.
This is a military operation involving military personnel. They would certainly be communicating the fact that back up was coming. It makes the building of hollow tension feel even flatter.
-
@PatTraverse Yup.
This arc is horrible, in so many ways. -
Eh, it's not a "horrible" arc, it's just not up to snuff.
-
-
@Ubiq Took the words right out of my mouth !
Good thing #9 is taking his sweet time before killing the commander - with the current pacing, Kafka would be lucky to even make it in time for her funeral.
-
Monster 8 got a spinoff titled B-Side.
It starts of with Hoshina, with all the side characters showing up in todays chapter, I hope they will get their time to shine on the B-side. -
B-side:
Mina has more personality in this chapter than she's had the entire run of the main series.
Still don't know how I feel with getting a spin-off involving Naoya Matsumoto while the original is proceeding at a glacial pace. -
Side-stories!
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1019962Pretty much, although that was a nice little two-page spread at the end.
-
I went and read the side-story. Promising start, and agreed on Mina finally having a semblance of character. I loved that interview of the captain where he trashtalks Kafka, like he is one to talk about comic relief with his stubborn suit ^^. I'm keeping fingers crossed that it sticks to interesting tidbits and doesn't spiral like the main story.
-
Another chapter of B-side is out.
I have a feeling this is gonna end up like Vigilantes for me--where I end up liking the spin-off more than the main series.
-
For a second there I thought the thing fired it's own skull:
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1019958 -
@Satsuki you gotta admit, "Vomit-a-cow" is one awesome name for an ultimate attack
-
I think we know what's coming:
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1019964And more of Ashiro's funny side.
-
Why couldn't the author have put this much effort into giving Mina a personality in the main series instead of saving it for the spin-off? :(.
Go Hoshina go!*The next ch for the main kn8 series is Jan 31st which will make it nearly a month since the last chapter. Has me wondering about the release schedule going forward.
-
Loved the chapter.
Great recognition of the positive effects that Kafka's selflessness brings.
-
This post is deleted!
-
Best chapter in quite some time imo.
-
Japanese do love "never give up".
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1020029 -
I am slowly but surely becoming interested in the B series more than the main one.
-
Furuhashi is a sprinter, not a marathon runner.
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1019875And I LOVE cool bow-and-arrows. The gang showing up put some life into the arc.
-
NOT THE TIGER!!!
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1020292 -
And now the B-arc switches to Shinomiya:
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1020456And yes, guys are always like that no matter how old they get.
-
Woo, go Shinomiya!
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1020440It occurs to me I haven't had crab cakes in forever.
-
So that failed prototype has to be her giant axe from the main series, right?
It's official, I really like the B-series more. Possibly because the stakes are low and as a result the characters have time to be themselves here, instead of just going through the motions of shonen tropes.
-
Probably that. We've been in high gear so long in that neither we or the characters have had a chance to rest and take a breather.
-
When are we going to get to the firew- oh, we're here.
-
You can complain about Kafka, but he gets banger hero moments.
Also the monsters are now reaching Berserk-level creepy.
-
I don't know if i like that development about No. 9. If they have existed and absorbed people for so long, why were they so weak at the beginning of the story?
At least Kafka is cool.
-
Might have been one of those, "defeated/sealed away long ago and lost strength in the interim" kind of things.
-
Might be that 9 is a collection of collectors; a ton of weak absorbing monsters that just recently got its act together.
-
Please tell me they'll start selling the little #8 doll the girl has:
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1020789And that is a badass final page.
-
I think I saw that the first episode comes out tomorrow on Crunchyroll
-
I thought it was a Twitter exclusive or was that a joke?
-
Shinomiya is so cute:
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1020808And I feel exactly the same way about crabs.

Classic shounen fighting:

Smart to bait him with the fighting style.
