I still remember all the people who said that 4kids had done One Piece a favor, that it was ugly, lame and that being with them gave it a chance of success and that it would never ever be a big hit outside of Japan.
All I have to say to them SUCK IT SUCKERS!
-
@Captain-Krupp only in America other countries did it better but it took 100 years to heal and a lot of people to die for One Piece to make it. The older one piece fans before YouTube are now gone oof

I did know and I love that you corrected me, I was just lazy, but I know what you know and I just didnt want to put the mental power to be specific.
Italy loved it,Germany Loved it many other countries loved it, Ironically while France is a HUGE market for One Piece it also went through the same it did in the americas, it had a horrible dub and when it was redubbed it blew up and its a huge market now.
My point still stands, these people thought One Piece would never ever succeed in the Americas and it took a lot of leaps of faith to make it happen. And I will still tell them SUCK IT SUCKERS.
EDIR: Whoops Forgot Spain. Normally I would just say its one of the "many others" but before the Latin American redub this was the only decent dub One Piece had in Spanish. So I think its very important and worthy of mention.

My buddy who I mentioned here before lives in NYC, but he does regional theatre and won’t be there at the time, he’s very upset he can’t help.

Real good opportunity for any wannabe actor looking to shadow a pro.

Or you just dress up like a thundercloud and get to be a real-life homie.

Some bad news, Rightstuf is closing down. With the horror stories I heard about the crunchyroll store. I won't ordering stuff from them.
-
I've been seeing a lot of Insta stories of people starting the dub after finishing the live action. This was honestly my big hope for the LA--more than that I'd like it at all, even--I just wanted it to attract more people to the anime/manga. Does anyone know how to track whether this is working? Like, maybe we can see viewer bumps in the anime on streaming services or in the manga on reading sites?

It used to be that I could order the voyages on Funimation.com for like $26/set. Now on CR the sets retail for $45 and there aren't very good member discounts, so it's like minimum $35/set. I'd sometimes catch up on RightStuf during sales, but now that's going to be gone. CR cutting out all the competition means the pricing is going to stay stiff/be stiffer. This sucks. I hate how these companies can just buy all their competition and monopolize. Same problem for getting actors paid better when there's only one dubbing company that doesn't need to compete with anyone else for talent. Our monopoly laws suck balls in the states.
I try to buy the collections and voyages once they hit $20 on sale somewhere. If anyone knows of a website that sells them in this price range, please lmk. I'm like three collections and five voyages behind.
-
For One Piece, I mostly just preorder the collection off of Amazon pretty much now. I mostly used Rightstuf for Discotek stuff, since alot of the discotek stuff were cheaper on Rightstuf. Like I said before, I won't be ordering stuff from the crunchyroll store, since I heard alot of horror stories from people that order from crunchyroll. For example I heard people that order 300+ dollars figurine that was broken in shipping and crunchyroll wouldn't refund them. As well other things like bad customer service.
-
@Sano CrunchyRoll has done a lot of illegal crude despite going official. There are many times The company sometimes does shady stuff behind the scenes that makes you question what're they doing with the money before Sony brought them.
-
@Nitwit What specifically are you talking about?
-
I think they mean they ABJECTLY REFUSE to do Union Dubs because they dont want to pay more, and that they refuse to record from home despite this system working through the entirety of the COVID pandemix.
-
Yeah, they’ve been super problematic regards their actors—in more ways than one. But I don’t think any of that has been “illegal.”
-
I dont know then. I hope Nitwit explains it then.
Also I wanna post in the Toonami thread. But I cant since I am the last post. Can someone please post there?
-
Yeah, I know about the pre official and early official days of crunchyroll. I remember during that period Funimation, Viz and alot of people in the industry weren't fans of crunchyroll with their moves.

Sonny Strait is definitely recording from home. Don't think he's flying from Connecticut to Texas every week.
-
If that's so I REALLY want to know what Nitwit meant then.
-
No new set today. Guess we’re back on a four week schedule with these sets? Bummer.
-
Oh man I gotta start catching up again. I just watched the Romance Dawn special episode, and I surprised they had Ian Sinclair voice Spiel. He was great, but I always imagined it would be Mike McFarland, since to me Spiel is kinda a proto-Buggy
-
It was because Cho voiced him in the original.
-
@Zephray Its been 4 weeks already tho lol

Oh right, that makes perfect sense, been so long since I watched it simulcast subbed
-
@Blake-Bakes-Cakes Really? Dang, that sucks. I went out of town for a few weeks for TIFF and thankfully still have some episodes left on this set to ration. Sucks that they're slowing down, though. We're only like, what, six sets from caught up?
-
Hopefully we get a new set soon. Really need to see 1015 dubbed

Another update on my progress of catching up to the dub. I'm up to Episode 856 (Katakuri's face revealed/Luffy finally getting a hit Katakuri episode.) I got alot to say about the dub episodes 840 - 856.
I want to the dub did a great job on the climax of the Tea Party with the collapse of Whole Cake Cheatu. Kudos to Smoothie's english voice actress reaction showing how scary Big Mom's hunger pain is. The dub did a great job on the Pedro scarfice to help the Straw Hats and Carrot to escape from Perospero. Also kudos to Perospero english voice actor continuing doing a great job on these episodes.
Since I'm only at the beginning portion of Luffy vs. Katakuri in the dub. The dub is doing these episodes really great so far. I'm happy that the dub did a great job on the Katakuri's face revealed scene.
Since no one really talking about it. It seems some time this past week, Crunchyroll added english captions for the opening songs on the dub episodes. I only really just noticed it., because the most recent episode I watched started the next opening, Super Power.

Just wanted to say that today (technically yesterday) is the 16th anniversary of the Funimation/Crunchyroll dub's debut on Cartoon Network, which was September 29, 2007. I can't believe it's been that long.
The many months leading up to its airing, along with its premiere, is something I'll never forget.
-
The microsoft store now has a voyage 11 icon, so Id be surprised if the set didnt go up tomorrow.
-
A year from now we’ll be watching the final saga simuldub and that feels unreal. 1000+ episodes fly by when it’s surrounded by uncertainty that the dub will continue. I doubt anyone here skipped filler lol

holy cow
I wasn't on the forums nor really involved with the fanbase at the time BUT I distinctly remember watching and thinking "why do they sound like DBZ characters now" haha

It was pure destilled despair. People constantly feared One Piece could be cancelled any minute without a TV deal. And there was that time those assholes at HorribleSubs jeopardized Toei being willing to trust Funimation to simulcast the anime. Until recently being a One Piece fan who loved the dub or just liked dubs in general was pure pain.
-
Voyage 11 is out! Good news, it has 14 episodes. Bad news, its price is increased (before theyve always been the same no matter the episode count). https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/season-1411/8d6kgwxxntbj

Oh wait, im dumb, its 13. They actually included the recap this time it seems? Regardless more than the standard 12 weve gotten all of wano
-
It is 12 episodes. There are 2 recaps on this set:
A Special Episode to Admire Mister Zoro and Mister Sanji! Barto's Secret Room 2!
and
A Comprehensive Anatomy! The Legend of Kozuki Oden! -
I have a fancast for adult Momo: Max Mittelman. We've got 2 of the LAVA VAs in the dub, why not get the third?

-
The next set we will find out if the Film Red episodes will be included in the season sets or not.
-
So we've got up to 1024 publicly released now? Or is it that other providers have caught up and uploaded some break week recaps alongside their catchup?

Please don't format it as "X". That just plays into Elon Musk's hands.
-
That wasnt a conscious choice, I just copied and pasted. As much as I hate Elon I’m pretty sure using his dumb name or not when linking to the site anyways makes him any more money.

Sorry dude, I get that you are angry, I am too, but putting Shitholewebsitedotcom wont link to the site.
I am kidding, but Blake's right, its just a link and he just copy pasted.
BTW I do hope one day shitholewebsitedotcom DOES link to twitter.
-
I appreciate it but reminder I go by they/them
-
@Captain-Krupp Putting "Twitter" still links to the site, though. Like so:
...Okay, maybe it doesn't?
Wait, now it does. Media that isn't Imgur seem to get slow loading these days.
-
I think that was supposed to be a joke, not that twitter itself doesnt work. My point was just the extra effort isnt worth it as it doesnt really. do anything.
-
That was a joke. I just meant as dont be too picky about links trueblade. I will keep it in mind and avoid calling it x for you though.
