I mean it's not the end of the world. I just very much enjoyed Clark having a kid to take care of, and the supersons dynamic during rebirth. So I would have preferred not losing that and this development make it least likely they would go back on it on the short or mid term.

I mean they could always still do that out of canon or elsewhere.
-
Yeah, Jon was a million times better as a character when he was a kid growing up. Flashbacks just aren't the same, and the bond with his family and Damian as well as his coming of age was the whole appeal. They could even do the whole bi thing better with him still younger and discovering those feelings, possibly having some mismatch with Damian that they have to stumble through. So much potential lost.
And now that he is a bi teen, they could have at least paired him up with a real character. It's some irrelevant dyed haired cliche no one cares about. Jon can do way better.

Weekly X:
! Wow that's a low off Mikhail.
! Boring X-men issue. -
Not gonna do a weekly X because I have no clue what's happening with this trial anymore.
Man Thorg is one cool frog.
-
Is it that confusing?
Also minor quibble about a series I don’t regularly read but that twist with One Below All in Immortal Hulk was…..lazy.
-
I read all 16 volumes of dawn of x a while ago and was gonna start X of swords but got distracted by something else and just decided to finally rent the volume from my library
Really hope it’s good, and that I didn’t forget to much from the other volumes I read so long ago
-
Is it that confusing?
well
! We don't know who killed her it, but it seems that she offed herself. But not current Wanda, but old lady Wanda that she encountered in end on this volume. We also don't know if the five or not resurrected her using the old backup, and why her son that can use magic is so sure that it's really her. Also there's Kaijus attacking the island so…

Really liked seeing Jon and Wally interact in Superman: Son of Kal-El #4. I think they could have a great friendship together considering they're both legacy characters and took up hugely important titles in very pronounced ways.
Doing some catching up on Super titles since Rebirth and finally read Superman: Lois & Clark, the eight issue Jurgens mini-series. It's such a good title! I really enjoyed just getting to see the Kents be a family and interact. I also really like how they're sort of 'on-the-run' and the story can just focus on them while being removed from the normal Superman status quo. It's really something I wish they had played with even more. Not everything needs to be Metropolis and Daily Planet!
Also, really wish Clark had kept the beat and black suit look. Like, fuck, it's hot.

Weekly X
! Some payoff to Maverick situation.
! What Wiz Kid is working from Gyrich?
! Marauders always being great.
! Inferno is a blast. -
Did some catching up on The Flash by reading Rebirth #1 and then The Flash #678-present. My only other experience with Wally is via Young Justice and the DCAU where he's got elements of Barry tossed in, i.e. his status as a CSI. I didn't realize Wally was such an everyman…or a motherfucking DILF! Lawd, the scenes with his family are adrenaline right into my fucking blood. I know his other Rebirth appearances are really controversial but I think I'll be going back to read them soon. On a last note, I really liked his appearance in Superman: Son of Kal-El #4. Wally is probably only ten years older than Jon but given that they're both really big name successors to a legacy my hope is that Wally takes Jon under his wing as a Batman to Jon's Nightwing of sorts. It also makes me hope that they're intending for Jon to have a Wally-esque tenure as the main Superman.
-
I actually want Nightwing to look after Jon. I always tought he was mentor material from his role with Damien. And him and Clark has some relation since he got the idea of the name from him. And they both give me that calming/reassuring nice dad/big brother vibe.
Superman will go back to Clark in not too long. The time where legacy could take over for real has pass. Wally made it just in time and he is still struggling to not lose the title back to a guy he buried for 20 years. And poor Dick is perpetually stuck in the middle where he had all the development and is always refered as next in line but the door closed right before the pay off.

Dick should also have a relationship with Jon, of course, but he's also typically busy off with the Bat-Family so I can see leaning into Jon and Wally scenes. Then again they can also just do whatever the hell they want, so whatever.
Honestly, I don't think Nightwing even needs to graduate to Batman. Then again, if anyone is going to take on the role at this point it would have to be Dick until they finally age up Tim, whom I imagine is supposed to still be…seventeen?

Its also probably because I read nightwing 83 where Clark ask Dick to look out for his soon while he's away. But its all preference.

He doesnt need to be Batman. But he should have taken the mantle of leader/front man. And it will never happen. I think Tim could be anything between 16 and 18. He was about to go to college in detective.

Is Dark Ages any good?

Just read issue 15 of X of Swords, until this issue I was loving the series, I thought it was a cool concept and well executed
Then they start the first fight and Betsy gets shattered into glass for no real reason outside of Saturnyne being a total bitch
And then the second match is a wedding? What the actual fuck, after building up hype for how Cypher will fare in a fight against actual warriors, they just decide to throw a wedding instead
Immense build up but now I’m afraid the rest of the matches will be like this, we’ll off to chapter 16
-
X of Swords had some interesting bits, but it boils down to |A| and Saturnyne petty affairs.
-
Agreed, I just finished reading the series and I felt the build up to the tournament and the struggles the characters had to go through and the threat the enemies posed were great, but the actual tournament itself and the conclusion of the event was extremely disappointing

Petty affairs is pretty serious business in the comic book world…..not to mention redundant.

Fair, but Saturnyne whole point is "I want Brian Braddock cock inside me and I'm willing to destroy the multiverse to have." that's not you average super hero pettiness.

That's super hero/villain level thirst with a taste of pettiness:ninja:.

Do American comic book writers make as much money as manga artists in Japan?
-
Don't think so, they might have higher salaries and a lighter workload but the sales volumes of floppies (for most titles is in the 20K-50K, with rare titles going for 100k), can't say for TPB or Omnibus or how much of royalties of sales and merch are allocated to them. IF your work receives highly claims and is adapted like Gaiman, Ennis, Moore, Miller, Shuster & Siegel states, etc might earn way more than the average.
-
The average comic book writer gets paid squat.
-
Weekly X
! Oh man poor Peter gonna's end in the pit.
A tolerable Excalibur issue? What the hell is this. -
Do American comic book writers make as much money as manga artists in Japan?
Lol, not even. A handful at the very top make some decent money, but nowhere near what a manga writer would make. Everyone else makes below minimum wage. Even if you're at Marvel or DC, unless you're on a top book the rates are gonna be bad. If you're at an indie publisher, you're probably basically working for free.. if not actually for free.
Absolute high end Marvel, DC, Image rates nowadays are 120$ a page. Almost no one gets that. Much more common is an 80$ page rate for regular titles… and thats for established talents. If you're a complete newb it will be lower than that.
(There may be some premiere super prestige titles that sell massivesly that pay better than that, like Walking Dead or Saga or an Alex Ross project, but those are going to be the exception, not the rule. )
If you go to any mid tier publisher like Zenescope or Aspen or Archie, you're looking at probably closer to a 50-60$ per page rate. It's been a long time since anyone I know did anything for Archie so I have no idea what their current rates are. And Archie tends to split their books into multiple short stories to make sure they stay on time, which means you might only get 8-10 pages an issue from them. And most comics have gone from the old standard of 24 pages per issue to 20 pages because that little bit of corner cutting makes a difference.
And if you're going to an indy, you're working for free and doing comics as a side gig while you do some other real job..
Marvel used to be pretty good for paying talent again at least a token amount when they would reprint trades, but my understanding is since the Disney buyout they've been awful about it. All the work I ever did for DC or Image was uncredited assisting someone else work, so I have no idea what their systems are like.
That page rate carries over to artists and colorists. Letterers get complete shit pay. The divide between pencillers and inkers will depend on the company... nowadays with so many artists doing digital its just sort of the same job now, and getting a separate inker is a Big Three luxury.
Covers pay a bit better, but not radically so. They're the sweetest gig though since they're just one image and you can justify putting some real passion into those.
Most freelancers need to work on two books a month or have a spouse to make a living. You gotta LOVE comics to work in comics.
I've been in this industry for 22 years and worked at all the big places at least once or twice. I've worked on hundreds of books (thousands if you count editorial capacity) and most of them haven't paid squat. European publishers pay very well but have much higher standards and more intensive work. Some projects I've worked on have been literally for free because I loved the property.
(Also note page rates were much higher a few decades ago when sales numbers were much higher in a much healthier industry. WHich makes sense. When Liquid was still THE premiere coloring studio, they were getting something like 300$ per page... and I don't even want to think what Todd McFarlane and Jim Lee were getting when they were selling millions of copies... but those days are looooong gone. ANd if you were doing comics before the 80's raw circulation meant they all paid decently.)

Thank You for the response, oh man I didn't realize it was that bad
I've wanted to get in the comic book industry ever since I was little, but I have zero talent for writing or Drawing unfortuntley
still sad that's the sate of the industry but I think the fact that people still do it despite that shows how much love the people have for comics, which is nice
-
The general rule is "Do a project at Marvel or DC to make a living, then do something you want to do at an indie to tell actual stories."
The thrill of working on the icons wears off fast. Everyone always says "I've always loved and wanted to work on this character!" and that's true. But six months in you're tired of doing the same outfit over and over, and if you're a writer you probably already did the one big Spiderman story you've had in mind… that happens to be just like every other Spiderman story.
And team books are AWFUL for the art team. Hate working on team books.
I've wanted to get in the comic book industry ever since I was little, but I have zero talent for writing or Drawing unfortunately
No one starts with talent. It's entirely study and practice, anyone can do it with enough effort and passion.
-
Given the experiences you’ve detailed I’d expect that passion to be beaten out of some.

Weekly X
! Oh triple agent, classic one.
! Atlantean baby heist? What the fuck Namor wants? -
Talk about cliffhanger on the second part of Blacksad's new story
-
Is anyone reading Buffy? I heard
! There making a guardians of the Multiverse
Does anyone know if it’s worth reading? -
Weekly X
! Love the Logan & Jeff buddy adventures.
! Well Immortality is out of the bag of secrets. -
Due to Jolyne Kujo reasons, Weekly X will be delayed to tomorrow.
-
Weekly X:
! Did we finally (until a next run decide to pick him up again) got rid of the Shadow King?
! Good ol' chaos magic to bring yourself back to life.
! Weirdly Marauders, was somehow uneventful. -
Trial of Magneto is truly a piece of shit that defines all of Marvel's worst tendencies (MCUization, bad continuity, refusal to undo horrible retcons, EVENT STORYLINE, etc)
-
I mean it's not as awful as Civil War 2: Fascist Boogaloo (the last big Marvel event I've read) but yikes, this is really bad.
-
I hated X Of Swords (well I actually loved the first 14 issues but it went completely downhill from there) so I’m not sure I want to read the reign of x or any of the other X-men stuff, it was that much of a let down
Still happy I read powers of x and house of x though, that was absolutely fantastic
-
The good titles kept being good after Swords, currently the most awful are Excalibur and the Trial of Magneto.

Even worse than Secret Empire?
-
Even worse than Secret Empire?
Secret Empire was the one that resulted in the universal soft reboot or the one with Nazi Cap?
-
Justice League Incarnate #1 really helped me solidify what I feel is off with DC (or maybe just AmeComi in general): the plot moves way too fast. The battles are boring, there's a lot of dialogue and not really a lot of focus on character and conflict. It's a shame because I really do enjoy some of the premises but they're trying so hard to stuff so much into a single short issue that everything comes across as half-baked.
-
Secret Empire was the one that resulted in the universal soft reboot or the one with Nazi Cap?
Nazi Captain America.
-
Nazi Captain America.
Yeah that was awful, great way to make Wade's life even more miserable.
-
Even worse than Secret Empire?
Secret Empire was good. Its bad parts are multiple narrative conveniences, but nobody who hates that event actually read the event to know what those are.
-
Would that be
! That Nazi cap was not a real Steve but a being created by Hydra using a sentient Tesseract, and that Nazi Cap killed Red Skull but somehow he ended up inside the same sentient Tesseract as Steve?

[hide]The Inhuman macguffin character spitting out a cosmic cube[/hide]
-
For fucks sake
! Two crossover events had a inhuman macguffin. Man those dark days when they really wanted to shelf the X-men because Fox owned the movie rights.
-
I always wondered why that was especially as I’ve heard the books took “some” aspects from the earlier films and plus the later movies were held in much better regard…..at least til Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix.
