90% develop response, 70% also had fever and headaches as side effects.
Usually the percentage of side effects needs to be way lower before approval. -

Let me just take this random moment to appreciate all that you do for these news-related threads. I don't really know how people get stars or if they really want them, but you've got my inconsequential vote.

Same, sgamer is the mvp with the daily WTF Just Happened Todays and summarizing links to articles that people post.
I don't know why, but I could read a 20 paragraph essay but clicking on a link or watching a video is something my brain perceives as too much effort, even if it'd be shorter than reading some of the longer posts. I almost never click on the links to articles in these threads because I somehow don't have the energy to despite reading several paragraphs worth of posts with no problems, so seeing sgamer post what the article is about helps me stay updated on what we're discussing sometimes.

You can always be over the top with them too. "Oh the moon landing is fake? Check this dude he believes in the moon."
Although I don't know where to fit Reductio ad Absurdum in the pyramid of debate.Yeah, I get it. What is Reductio ad Absurdum?

Yes, I agree. I think it's awesome that sgamer does this all the time and I really appreciate that he does it despite not really looking into it much. So go sgamer! A true gamer!

If I wanted bullshit I'd visit a cattle farm.
-
Yeah, I get it. What is Reductio ad Absurdum?
Reduction ad Absurdum is an argumentation strategy that establishes a claim by showing the extreme opposite would be absurd or contradictory.
An exemple:Criticizing Homer's attribution of human faults to the gods, Xenophanes states that humans also believe that the gods' bodies have human form. But if horses and oxen could draw, they would draw the gods with horse and oxen bodies. The gods cannot have both forms, so this is a contradiction. Therefore, the attribution of other human characteristics to the gods, such as human faults, is also false.

If I wanted bullshit I'd visit a cattle farm.
Eh, if he can somehow convince his supporters to wear masks it'll help a lot.
-
!
…Six months late, but better than nothing I guess.
Damn, I can't believe Trump actually is wearing a mask. I guess this poll numbers falling down made him finally bite the bullet. Though he keeps calling the Coronavirus the China Virus >_>

Oh! That was a good example too. That would be nice to learn that type of strategy, though it might push others away more. Thanks for explaining!

Yeah, I agree. At least it's something.
In before his supporters create conspiracy theories about Trump wearing a mask because of some secret agenda.
-
Eh, if he can somehow convince his supporters to wear masks it'll help a lot.
If I'm not mistaken when he did this a few weeks back this led to people floating conspiracy theories of him being forced into doing it.
Which suggests that no it's not going to work.
-
People that support Trump (his base) don't believe in science in the first place so, neh ain't gonna do shit and he will probably fuel conspiracies latter that he was forced to wear and it lead to health issues to him.

Day 1278: "I'll be right eventually."
- Dept. of “We Have It Totally Under Control.”
- Global: Total confirmed cases: ~14,609,000; deaths: ~609,000
- U.S.: Total confirmed cases: ~3,809,000; deaths: ~141,000

The Trump administration is trying to block funding for coronavirus testing and contact tracing, the CDC and the National Institutes of Health in the upcoming coronavirus relief package. The Senate Republican proposal would allocate $25 billion to states for conducting testing and contact tracing, about $10 billion for the CDC, and about $15 billion for the National Institutes of Health. The proposal would also provide $5.5 billion to the State Department and $20 billion to the Pentagon. White House officials, however, is seeking to zero out the funding in the upcoming bill and push states to take responsibility for testing. Trump has also repeatedly questioned the value of widespread testing, arguing that if there were fewer tests conducted, the number of infections would be lower. (Washington Post / New York Times / ABC News / CNN)
- The director of the CDC said the pandemic could be brought under control over the next four to eight weeks if “we could get everybody to wear a mask right now.” Researchers have found that wearing a basic cloth face covering is more effective in reducing the spread of COVID-19 than wearing nothing at all. Meanwhile, in a Fox News interview that aired Sunday, Trump said, “I don’t agree with the statement that if everybody wear a mask everything disappears.” On Monday, however, Trump tweeted that face masks are “Patriotic” after months of refusing to wear a face covering in public. (Wall Street Journal / CNBC)
- State and local officials warn that they lack key resources to confront a surge in coronavirus cases. Labs in some places are taking a week or longer to provide test results, which health experts say render tests near-useless. (Washington Post)
- A South Korea study found that children between the ages of 10 and 19 can spread the coronavirus at least as well as adults do. Children under 10 were roughly half as likely as adults to spread the virus to others. (New York Times)
The next coronavirus relief bill is expected to tie school funding to classrooms reopening and will likely include a payroll tax cut. The GOP plan is expected to include around $70 billion for elementary and secondary schools. About 10% will be set aside for nonpublic schools. Trump previously suggested he would not sign a new relief bill unless a payroll tax cut is included and the administration is also trying structure a payroll tax cut as a deferral rather than a straight cut. (Washington Post / Politico / Wall Street Journal / Bloomberg)
Trump insisted that he’ll “be right eventually” about the coronavirus pandemic, repeating his claim that “it’s going to disappear.” In a Fox News Sunday interview, Trump downplayed the danger of the coronavirus, saying that the rising number of U.S. deaths “is what it is,” claimed that many cases are just people who “have the sniffles” and that many of those cases are “young people that would heal in a day,” and called Dr. Anthony Fauci “a little bit of an alarmist.” The U.S. death toll, meanwhile, passed crossed 140,000. Trump also insisted that the U.S. has “the best mortality rate” in the world, which is not true. (CNN / NPR / Washington Post / New York Times / Axios / CNN / The Independent)
Trump will resume the White House coronavirus task force briefings on Tuesday. Trump held near-daily news conferences for several weeks before abandoning the practice after an April session during which he speculated that disinfectants, such as bleach, or sunlight could be injected “inside the body” to fight the coronavirus. Sunday marked the 41st straight day that the seven-day average for new daily coronavirus infections in the U.S. trended upward. (Bloomberg / Washington Post / New York Times / The Guardian / Wall Street Journal)poll/ 34% of Americans trust Trump to handle the coronavirus pandemic. 54%, meanwhile, trust Biden to handle the pandemic. This article has a great gif. map showing how Covid has ebbed and flowed in the US since March. Nice visualization of things.
It's almost literally gone from north to south.

Maybe cause the Northeast learned to follow something akin to guidelines and have kept our numbers down.
Although I just learned my manager has a "low fever" so I might be going in for testing soon.
-
Iowa though looks like it's low key bubbling up badly.
Maybe Steve King will get sick and die.

For a state with such a small population they shouldn't be. But they are because, hey, stupid people.
But speaking of stupid people damn LA county is dropping the ball badly. Just can't stay away from the beaches, huh?

Yeah our Governor has been absolutely horrible about all of it. Her rhetoric boils down to "care for businesses over people." Mix that in with a lot of people thinking masks don't work and the coronavirus is a hoax, the results are exactly as expected.

They've proven the virus does not spread outside well and that most of the outbreaks are coming from indoor gatherings. They opened all the bars, restaurants, retail, salons and gyms in May based on how other states were doing the same without spikes, but it backfired. They've now closed it all back down, but it's going to take a while for things to get under control.

But that hasn't been what other hotspot states have done? Unless they were using like Georgia as a model, and why would California ever do that??

Yeah, specifically Georgia and Florida, who are now experiencing massive spikes. And because we had all these protests from Karens and Kyles demanding to reopen stuff because freedom and profit. The science was suggesting holding off opening but then they're like "well, maybe we're overreacting", can't hurt to try right?"

Trump told Americans that the coronavirus pandemic “will probably, unfortunately, get worse before it gets better.” During his first White House coronavirus task force briefing in weeks, Trump directed Americans to “get a mask” because “they will have an effect and we need everything we can get.” Trump, who wasn’t wearing a mask himself, added: “We are asking everybody, when you are not able to socially distance, wear a mask.” The U.S., meanwhile, recorded more than 1,000 deaths Tuesday – the first time the country has topped that mark in nearly 50 days when 1,052 fatalities were reported. (New York Times / CNN / Washington Post)
The CDC estimates that the actual number of coronavirus infections in the U.S. is anywhere between 2 to 13 times higher than the reported cases. The higher estimate is based on a study of antibodies derived from blood samples drawn from 10 geographic regions. The findings suggest that large numbers of people who did not have symptoms or did not seek medical care may have kept the virus circulating in their communities. About 40% of infected people do not develop symptoms, but may still pass the virus on to others. (Bloomberg / Washington Post / New York Times)- Trump sometimes receives multiple coronavirus tests in a day. “As I’ve made clear from this podium, the president is the most tested man in America,” White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany told reporters. “He’s tested more than anyone, multiple times a day, and we believe that he’s acting appropriately.” (Politico / CNN)
poll/ 31% of Americans say they believe that the number of Americans dying from COVID-19 is lower than the number reported, 37% believe the actual number of deaths is higher, and 31% believe the actual number is on par with the official count. 59% of Republicans say the death count is overinflated, compared to 9% of Democrats. So we wouldn't have so much cases if they didn't so many tests, but you can have as many tests as you want. The hypocrisy.

Sure overinflated, just check the average deaths in the same time spam last year and compare to the one of this year, the difference is due to covid.**

The U.S. reported more than 1,000 daily deaths from the coronavirus for the first time since May. The average number of daily deaths have been rising for most of July. Daily confirmed cases also rose by more than 64,000 Tuesday and the U.S. has regularly logged over 60,000 new daily infections over the past week. Starting with the first reported case on January 21, it took 99 days for 1 million Americans to become infected. It then took 43 days after that to reach 2 million cases. And then 28 days later, on July 8, the U.S. reached 3 million cases. The country is on pace to reach 4 million COVID-19 cases about two weeks after recording its 3 millionth case, and the CDC suggests that the actual number may be 10 times higher. Nationwide, the death toll is on track to surpass 200,000 by Election Day. (Washington Post / Politico / Axios / Wall Street Journal / CNN)

poll/ 8% of Americans think daycare centers, preschools and K-12 schools should open this fall without restrictions. 46% think schools should reopen with major adjustments, 14% say school should reopen with minor adjustments, and 31% say schools should not open at all. (Associated Press) -
What the Fuck Just Happened Today's COVID-Specific news for the end of the week:
1/ The CDC published new guidance recommending that schools reopen in the fall – two weeks after Trump criticized its earlier recommendations on school reopenings as “very tough and expensive.” The new guidelines start with an unsigned statement on “the importance of reopening America’s schools this fall,” and repeatedly describe children as low risk for being infected by or transmitting the coronavirus. A recent National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine report, however, concludes that “There is insufficient evidence with which to determine how easily children and youth contract the virus and how contagious they are once they do.” Nevertheless, the CDC claimed that “the best available evidence indicates that COVID-19 poses relatively low risks to school-aged children,” and that “reopening schools creates opportunity to invest in the education, well-being, and future of one of America’s greatest assets — our children.” Earlier this month, an internal CDC document warned that fully reopening schools would be the “highest risk” for the spread of coronavirus. Dr. Anthony Fauci said the country should try “as best as we possibly can” to keep children in school, but “it depends on where you are” and reopenings should depend on the level of virus transmission in individual communities. (New York Times / CNN / Washington Post)
- Barron Trump’s school will not fully reopen in September despite Trump’s repeated demands and threats to withhold federal money. St. Andrew’s Episcopal School will decided in August whether to adopt a hybrid model for the fall that would allow limited in-person education or to resume holding all classes completely online as was done in the spring. (New York Times / Washington Post)
poll/ The approval rating for governors in four states hit hardest by the coronavirus all sink. In Florida, 58% disapprove of Gov. Ron DeSantis’ handling of the pandemic, while 40% approve, and in Texas, 55% disapprove of Gov. Greg Abbott, while 44% approve. In Arizona, 62% disapprove, while 36% approve of Gov. Doug Ducey, and in Georgia, 55% disapprove, while 44% approve of Gov. Brian Kemp. (Axios)

,” and that “reopening schools creates opportunity to invest in the education, well-being, and future of one of America’s greatest assets — our children.”
Which you can do by actually putting money into schools instead of slashing budgets, and closing schools…...but of course we can't do that as we gotta look out for the needy millionaires and our poor-poor military.

Hey the greedy billionaires and the military industrial complex pulled themselves by the bootstraps, they deserve to suck on the tits of the gov't.

The same dudes just released a video they did in my city, which is their hometown too. Lots of facepalm, but at least the duo had some good comebacks:
It's just a few cities south of Huntington Beach, which yeah definitely has a dark history of white supremacy that I'd heard about growing up. It's not really surprising they went full Florida these past few months. There are people in both of these cities wearing masks though. I saw plenty of people wearing them when passing through HB the other day and most of the people that usually hang in that spot in the SC video aren't locals anyway. Still a lot of trash though.

Are we talking about Orange county? Because it was a Republican stronghold until….. less than two years ago!

It’s happened in Australia because the State I live in messed up hotel quarantine for travellers, causing community transmission. Like, holy shit, the security literally banged someone who had COVID whom they were supposed to be making sure didn’t go out. That caused a large outbreak. As well as other stuff.
It’s only really prevalent in one state, but it seems it may flare up in two.
