Except that rugby isn't a healthy sport at all
If you put on too much weight, you will suck at running. If you suck at running, it means that your heart is not fine at all -
It's just mineral free so it reduces fluid retention. The bodybuilder will look more chiselled on the competition as a result.
Of course, the prolonged use is risky by itself, even more so if you're on a strict diet for days. Honestly I'll never get the appeal of that type of sport.

Except that rugby isn't a healthy sport at all
If you put on too much weight, you will suck at running. If you suck at running, it means that your heart is not fine at allThere are different positions. Forwards are usually more bulky and they sprint a lot less than backs, who are on the lighter side and more mobile (I'm a winger, shitload of running). But there are guys with like 110 kg who run 100 meters in 11 seconds. And those forwards do a lot more than running. Tackling, pushing, lifting. Having more muscle helps protect the body during collisions.
If you're playing a character capable of incredible feats of strength, you just have to look the part, in my opinion.

When I say running, I mean jogging not sprinting. Like, they can't run for 30min straight with ease. Which is what's required to be in good health
Rugby is the only sport that demands to put on more weight -
When I say running, I mean jogging not sprinting. Like, they can't run for 30min straight with ease. Which is what's required to be in good health
Rugby is the only sport that demands to put on more weightThat kind of general statement doesn't help your case, especially when talking to someone who knows what they are talking about. I know a guy who's around 100 kg who did a triathlon. Came in last but did it. 1,5 km swimming in a lake, 20 km bike ride and 10 km running. Dude in his late thirties, built like a brick wall. I mean you're talking about guys who are constanly switching between low intensity and high intensity work during 80 minutes or more. Jogging for 30 minutes is a joke.
Let's just pretend that american football, wrestling, boxing, kickboxing, MMA, disc throwing, various strongman and sumo (as a joke example) don't exist.
Also, more muscle does not equal more weight.
Should probably stop, though. Since we're not on Bodybulding.com.
-
I'll also add. None of the modern movie action guys look too buff like Arnold Schwarzenegger (half the cast of Predator) or The Rock. Most of tese newer action stars are also pretty tall. They don't look nearly as unobtainable as Arnold's peak days.

I just now finally got around to watching Justice League (it was 4 bucks at Walmart, a Black Friday leftover…the fact that there were any left should have tipped me off how bad it was). Wow. This is why even the two Avengers who didn't get their own movies had cameos in the other heroes' movies beforehand. Would it really have been so bad to do a Flash movie first? And that post-credits garbage...like they really thought that was going anywhere. If the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, WB is insane for thinking this approach to their universe is going to get different results.
-
Would it really have been so bad to do a Flash movie first?
Considering they still hadn't washed the funk of Green Lantern off?
-
Considering they still hadn't washed the funk of Green Lantern off?
What the hell does that have to do with anything? They had already made a Superman solo reboot, skipped a Batman reboot to do BvS, did a completely uncalled for Suicide Squad movie, and a Wonder Woman solo movie. Why would a Flash one have been out of place there to precede Justice League, irrespective of any Green Lantern flub from half a decade prior? Because of that, we got a Flash who was too afraid to actually do anything instead of one who'd already gotten his foot in the door of the school of hard knocks, and had nothing like what even the CW show has him capable of doing. Plus, even Thor Ragnarok didn't have as much overdoing it on the lightning effects as Flash's movements did.
-
I don't think a flash movie would've been out of place. But with the inconsistent quality of the DCU would they had been able to pull it off or just make another divisive superhero movie.
I like to think depending on what happens with Aquaman they'll give it some more consideration but who knows.

The first round of Aquaman critic reactions are out on twitter and co.

-
I hate to sound petty but I'd rather their universe get off to a far more solid footing at its foundation and it has consistently failed to do so up to this point, and since we can't ignore the five movies prior to this, that stain will always linger on this one. Like how being forced to read a book for school diminishes one's enjoyment of it even if it's a really good one.

SF debris puts his behind the scenes videos on youtube, and the actual copyright flaggable material on vimeo, and I have no idea how to get the vimeo adress. Oh well. Actual review here.

I know it has nothing to do with DC, but my god all it has to do is to be from Warner Bros. and it could be an Earth 3 Ultraman origin.
-
Leave it to Sony to get a Superman movie made before Warner Bros.

Uh . . . . what the fuck was that?

That was the son of Zod.

Question is will this kid kill more people than Henry Cavills superman in MoS? :ninja:

More than Superman has killed, but fewer than Batman has killed. Boy, Snyder really fucked that whole universe.

I assume Gunn worked on this movie while being with MARVEL. So… how awkward must it be now that he works for WB. lmao.

Ehh…no more awkward than Green Lantern now being Deadpool. And before that being in Blade Trinity. Literally going from Fox Marvel to WB back to Fox Marvel. Or was Blade owned by Sony before?

Oh please The Human Torch is Captain America AND Killmonger. People get over that stuff.

I know, I was pointing out how something even more extreme of an example of 'double-dipping' was still mundane. Plus there's Josh 'Jonah Hex/Thanos/Cable' Brolin. LOL. On the one hand I would like to see some new blood in these kinds of roles, but god damn if the ones they pick don't just do a fabulous job of it.
-
This is different than actors playing roles, cause they are clearly making a horror parody of snyders man of steel. Well superman really, but with clear jabs at man of steel trailer imagery.

"Producer" just means he raised money for it or pushed the studio to put in the resources, it doesn't mean he had any real role in development. And that he's the biggest name the studio has involved with the picture so he gets paid 100K just to slap his name on it.
Notice at the end it's written by his brothers. So… that's probably why he raised money/is letting his name be plastered on it.
See also all the films Quentin Tarantino lends his name to that he had nothing to do with but he personally wants to have a bigger exposure, kung fu movies especially.

Tarantino was actually IN one of those kinds of movies that I'm aware of, called Sukiyaki Western Django. It was weird but interesting. So sometimes he will do more than just lend his name.

Aquaman reviews are out and it seems to be a "love it or hate it" movie.
https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/aquaman_2018Some are calling it pure camp, which being DC shouldn't be a bad thing. Although apparently it tends to hit you over the head with it.

I actually though Aquaman was a lot of fun. It's got its problems, sure, but it's probably the most "comic-book-y" movie of all the DC films so far.
! -Jason Mamoa's not the most fleshed-out or engaging hero ever, but I think he does fine.
-Mara, however, didn't do much for me at all. She's just one of those stereotypical "tough girls" who mostly spouts exposition without having any real personality
-Black Manta, I thought, was a really effective villain. Ocean Master less so, but still alright. At the very least, their costumes are great and very true to their comic book origins.
-Not sure I really understand Orm's plan to unite the kingdoms. First he uses deceit to get Mara's dad on his side, but then he just straight up kills the merman king and forces his heir into compliance and then has a war with the crab people.
-The visuals in this movie are just great. They really brought the undersea world to life.
-This movie made talking to fish look badass. It deserves at least something for that. -
I saw Aquaman today. It's my favorite of the DC universe live action movies.
Little things:
! The love story portion was painfully predictable.
! Atlanta doing a costume change randomly was funny -
While I haven't seen any other of this guys videos, this came up on Youtube for me and honestly sums up all my problems with the DCEU(outside of Suicide Squad).
Specifically, it goes into the Zack Synder films. And while not targeting him, per se, it points out his choices along with WB that lead to the massive problems the DCEU.
I don't agree with EVERYTHING he says, but I'd say I'm on his side with at least 90% of what he brings up
-
I'll put this all as spoilers even though it's probably not all that important.
! I liked that Mera was a very competent and valuable secondary protagonist, not just there to provide eye candy (though there was plenty of her filling that type of role too), so that won the film a lot of points in my book. Momoa's performance wasn't lead actor worthy but this not being your traditional portrayal of Aquaman from the comics does work in his favor, if only a bit. It probably could have done without Black Manta, or if he was a native Atlantean just to simplify things a bit and maybe cut down the runtime a little. It didn't really feel that long (seeing it with a nerdy friend helped pass the time) and there weren't many boring bits so it wasn't a drag at all, but people have complained about the length so I think that could have been trimmed keeping his origin more like what I'm familiar with (the Young Justice animated series version, primarily).
! I don't remember in the lore whether it mattered if Atlanteans were supposed to be of royal blood in order to be able to survive and breathe in the open air, but that did help continuity to explain why they didn't just send much larger squads after Arthur and Mera, and why their attacks occurred only on the coasts. Though it is curious how the Trench creatures didn't have any such handicap when they were on the boat, but I guess if they were part of a different evolutionary line, that could account for it.
! Also, people's disbelief in Atlantis and whatnot when they were talking about the tidal waves on the news was asinine. This is a universe where Superman exists and the Enchantress' attack on that city happened. I haven't seen such morbid stupidity since people on the first season of Jessica Jones expressed disbelief in someone with mind controlling abilities when, even when it premiered, we had seen no less than 3 different examples of such. It is kind of hilarious that we've got another double-dipping casting thing here with the guy who played Agent Woo from Ant-Man and the Wasp as the crazy science conspiracy guy in Aquaman. -
So WB finally has its first billionaire DCEU film and it's Aquaman of all things.
-
Wan Billion Dollars. ;)
-
Hard to argue its success but its budget is pretty big for a solo hero origin story and with the marketing budget tacked on, their profit margin is probably only in the 2-300% range rather than the usual 4-5 for films that break 1 billion. Still, pretty good return on the investment before they were in a position to have their confidence in their product back. And it looks like they've finally, FINALLY learned that they don't have to compromise the entire project by trying to make everything The Dark Knight.
Also I keep having an argument with my friend about Kevin Smith being the one who should direct the Flashpoint movie. He says he doesn't have confidence in Smith because he's never handled a project with that huge of a budget before. I think that's a pretty crappy ass reason to doubt Smith's ability but is it legitimate? Joss Whedon's Serenity barely made back its production budget and it was his first major film, yet they gave him the reins to the Avengers and look how that turned out (not as much for Age of Ultron, but that had a lot to do with studio interference). When someone has a deep, raw understanding of the source material, and that kind of passion for it, and other fans en mass support them, it should be a good sign. Budget be damned, they'll turn out a good product because they are a fan and they know what the people want because they ARE the people.
-
Look at Smiths last movies and ask yourself why the fuck should he direct a big blockbuster, when he can't even make good small budget movies?

He's been directing good episodes of the Flash. That's a pretty good point on his resume. Plus giving him enough of a budget to not feel constrained so much is likely to help. And you could make the same argument against Joss Whedon, though, and it would have proven you wrong. Just give Smith a chance is all I'm saying.

I do hear Smith's name brought up a lot, here and there. I know he does a podcast as well - or something of the like. And I know he talks about superhero movies a lot. But besides some films in the 90's that were relatively successful, he hasn't done much of worth since. Doesn't mean he will be bad, and he certainly doesn't have to be the writer of it, but if I were an executive or producer I'd be hesitant.
I like Flash, but from a directorial perspective it ain't exactly top of the crop. But to be fair, 23 shows a season series typically aren't. Heck, get Mike Judge to direct a flash movie. He's directed like every Silicon Valley episode I believe.
-
Doesn't Mike Judge have a thing for making or writing TV shows that tend to wind up cancelled?
-

I don't think his track record is that bad. Isn't he responsible for Bevis and Butthead and King of the Hill and by association Daria?
-

You mean like Beavis and Butthead, which was crazy popular and ran for 7 seasons and then had another revival season in 2011?
Or King of the Hill, which ran for 13 seasons?
Or Silicon Valley, which has had 5 seasons and is still running?
I will give you Goode Family though.
-
^ To be fair I wasn't pissing on him since it's well known KOTH was weirdly fucked over by Fox just like Futurama. Whereas HBO could always pull the plug on Silicon Valley at some point.
-

I certainly don't disagree with that, but I would have to point out that things like Jurassic World were directed by relative newcomers to feature films, especially films of the kinds of budgets that such a thing come loaded with, as well as the fact that just the subject matter and title alone are guaranteed to get certain people to come regardless of who's in the director's chair. But having a competent and passionate director announced for a project like that (like when Ryan Coolger was announced as the director of Black Panther) sure can't hurt the buzz around it.
And of all the CW superhero shows, Flash is really the only one I care about, I just can't get into the others for some reason. But of what I have watched, such as Arrow, yeah, those definitely DON'T need to be 22-23 episodes per season. At least the Flash has enough personality and a fun enough cast to make all the filler entertaining. But if the episodes Smith directs shows that he understands the characters, that would bode well for a theatrical film since what happened with things like BvS and Fant4stic were the directors really just deeply not understanding those characters or the lore.
-
Saw Aquaman, it was so much fun. Not Avengers or Dark Knight amazing, but fun. And isn't that what a superhero movie should be? I have a longer list of highlights and disappointments but right now my only nitpick is:
IT'S THE NEW ENGLAND AQUARIUM, NOT BOSTON AQUARIUM YOU DUMBASSES!!!!

Birds of Prey Teaser
Not as good as the Joker teaser, but I liked it, though, I'm not sure about Black Mask here. I need to see more of him. Right now he seems very different from how I know him.
-
I don't know… looks like some Jem and the holograms shit so far.
-
Yeah, that's not much of a teaser.
-
I'd say this is more of a teaser than most teasers lol Filming just started a few weeks ago, this is just them giving people a basic glance at what the characters will look like. This is most likely not even actual footage from the movie.
