The youngest of this series is from 2015. Hana ni Somu and Shouwa Genroku Rakugou Shinju have already finished.
Interesting list. And almost a half can be read in English.
-
Definitely more interesting nominations than Taisho.
Now its just the wait for results. supporting Kujira.
Next is the results of Japan Media arts Festival Manga Division which should be mid march.

If you know only Rakugo by its anime, Golden Kamui is a really big success and has its thread here and Kujira is also an interesting story which anime will certainly boost

People are bound to forget the big hitters of the past if they don't care about the history of the medium. Especially when they're foreign. I'm sure you'd get the same results if you asked about Eisenstein or Akira Kurosawa. MU isn't age restricted either and I can tell you that I didn't know who Tezuka was when I was 14.

yeah but i would believe people who read mangas grow older nowadays. Look at this forum, there are people who have been on this site for years now. And i thought MU was more a site for old geezers like me rather than teens who are more on social medias

https://www.forbes.com/sites/olliebarder/2019/02/15/the-live-action-movie-of-your-name-is-no-longer-set-in-japan/#122a78c5e7c0Apart from the news that the live-action movie adaptation of Your Name is going ahead with Marc Webb as director, it also appears that this new film will no longer be set in Japan.
According to Deadline, the setting has been moved to the U.S. and is based around a young Native American woman living in a rural area and a young man from Chicago who swap bodies, as per the original anime movie. -
Were people expecting anything different? I think it's the norm for American adaptations to be set in America. I haven't seen the original movie but I doubt it being set in Japan is that important.

I suggest you to watch it then.

Hm. Interesting…Although they say Native American woman...I feel the guy is probably still gonna be white. A small percentage of the him maybe being black. Depends on how faux woke they'll try to go.

We get the winner of Manga Taisho awards 2020
It is Blue Period from magazine Afternoon It's a manga about a high schooler without real motivation which discover a passion for painting and will try to enter a prestigious art university
It's really great and a chapter just came out on mangadex today.
https://mangadex.org/title/34327/blue-period/chapters
For patient people, it will be available in English this fall2d on the ranking is Spy x Family which presence here should be a surprise to nobody. If you are surprised it means that you have not started to read it whereas it's available for free on Mangaplus. What are you waiting for ?
Third is another high school serie, Skip to loafer about a girl from the countryside but very good in studies which managed to enter a famous high school in Tokyo. She is naive but determined and that makes a lovely comedy
https://mangadex.org/title/33670/skip-to-loaferWell I must said this is a perfect podium to me
Other ranks can be found on this tweet

I don't think it's been discussed on this forum, but Demon Slayer: Mugen Train has become Japan's highest grossing film ever. Beating out even Spirited Away.
https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2021/5/12/perfect-storm-propels-demon-slayer-into-the-record-books
So, obviously there are a lot of factors involved. Demon Slayer is, of course, a tremendous success in Japan, much more than it is here in the States (though, notably, Mugen Train even made it to the top of the US box office, albeit in its second week). And now that COVID is, hopefully, winding down, I imagine a lot of people across the world having been dying to get back out to the movie theaters. And, of course, there's inflation. After all, it has been about 20 years since Spirited Away came out, so ticket prices have risen.
But even with all that taken into consideration, I still find myself asking myself, "Really?" This is it? This was the one to beat Spirited Away? I mean, to start off, I don't really get Demon Slayer's popularity in the first place. I've seen the anime and, you know, it's good for an action shonen anime. Not amazing, but good. But then I'm just a white boy from the US and there's some cultural aspect to this I'm not getting. But aside from that, this isn't even really that strong as a stand alone movie. You kind of do have to have seen the TV show to fully appreciate it, so I would think that would turn a lot of people. Also, the movie is pretty bloody and violent, which I'd think would turn a lot people off, but I guess Japan is more tolerable of that stuff (again, culture).
But, regardless of what I think, the facts are the facts, so congrats to Koyoharu Gotouge and ufotable on their success, I guess.
