I can't believe you pirated the entire movie. Are you trying to get arrested?
Watch anything past the first minute, you'll get the idea. XD

I watched the whole thing.:ninja:Pretty sure that was still a crime.
I would totally watch a Pikachu aerobics video.
Oh, and apparently Pokemon can infiltrate our brains:

Man, I've really got to try to temper my expectations. I'm suddenly REALLY excited for this movie, but deep down I know it's probably just going to be "pretty good," when everything's said and done.
To be honest, the Dancing Pikachu animation made me lose some of my expectations. It really triggered my "look, an animal doing dance moves! The apex of comedy"-phobia that is usually kept for Illumination Entertainment movies.
Still going to eventually watch it before Endgame, though.
Another early leak

I feel like Dancing Pikachu was less about "funny" and more about "adorable".
Had a lot of fun watching it. Not perfect, but there was a lot to like, especially Pikachu and Tim as a team. All the Pokemon were great to see, too. Not sure if I'll do a full review, but I highly recommend anyone on the fence to go see it.
Yeah, for what it was, Detective Pikachu was pretty solid.
! If nothing else, they did their homework. Everything in the movie is, like, 95% accurate to established Pokemon lore. All the designs and names and characteristics of the Pokemon are pretty spot on, with, granted, a few creative liberties (especially with Mr. Mime).
! As for the story and characters, well…yeah, I'm not gonna say it's the strongest, but I wasn't exactly expecting Tarantino material here. Ryan Reynolds, of course, does a great job as Pikachu, and the lead guy is pretty good. The girl, however, is pretty groan-worthy, and the villain's pretty goofy and cliche. But again, wasn't expecting too much from the writing department.
! So I'd say as long as your expectations aren't too high, you should have a fun time with this. I know the audience I saw it with definitely enjoyed it, as did my aunt and brother who have little to no experience with Pokemon.
It was a little weird watching Detective Pikachu a week after Endgame. After an hour you can tell it's starting to move towards the end and it reminds you of what a normal-length movie is like You don't quite as much bang for your buck lol.
Being completely spoiler free, the movie does cater towards Pokemon fans as it should. Just that aspect makes the movie entertaining. The action scenes involving the Pokemon were done very well in my opinion and in a way makes more interested in watching Sonic. They used a lot of Pokemon across all gens. I didn't catch any megas or Alolan forms though. There one part a little past the halfway point of the movie that was really amazing. I don't even want to put it under a spoiler because you really need to be caught off guard by it for the full effect. It blew my mind a little bit. The plot itself is mediocre but that's not why anyone came to watch.
I would recommend it to anyone who likes Pokemon. It did its job, that's for sure.
I think the majority of the us who want to see it like Pokemon.
I saw Detective Pikachu. While I wouldn't call it amazing by any stretch of the imagination, it was a fun movie, and it's clear that the staff did their research. Compared to pretty much any and all video game movies ever made, this movie is remarkably faithful to the source… That being Pokémon as a whole, I can't really compare it to the DP video game as I haven't played it.
Well this was a nice movie. It's great seeing a project where the cast and crew take the subject matter seriously–even if the original material is a bit silly. There's a lot to enjoy here. Also, I'm happy a certain starter pokemon got a chance to shine...
! …that is to say the bulbasaur scene. I think I took it the wrong way. Seeing Justice Smith beg them to help an injured Pikachu just reminded me how bulbasaur was typically the least picked start pokemon. In that moment I was thinking to myself, "finally, this is bulbasaur's time!".
I also loved Psyduck in this movie. Hopefully in a later generation he gets some love so he's more usable.
Super fun movie. I think as a pokemon fan it felt like such a landmark moment to see pokemon in live action actually done right, and the development of the relationship between the main characters was strong enough that the emotional beats actually mattered.
We may actually have an almost unprecedented instance of a video game movie being better than its source material (source material in this case being the DP game.) Can't wait to see what they do to follow up this movie and I look forward to seeing more pokemon adapted to the realistic aesthetic.
So, detective Growlithe next or Detective Pikachu 2: Detective Libre?
I think the majority of the us who want to see it like Pokemon.
I'm just reinforcing that it wasn't disappointing to a Pokemon fan
I just loved the sprite art at the end of Detective Pikachu:
Detective Pikachu is probably my favorite Pokemon media in a while. At least since Black 2/White 2. Really hope we get some sort of follow-up, because that was a ton of fun.
Pokemon Direct happening June 5th. Going to be roughly 15 minutes.
Quick predictions:
-Boxart Legendarys
-Earlygame bird/rodent/bug, and at least one other one
-Main "gimmick" similar to Z-moves
-Some new type of variants, hopefully similar to Alolan forms.
-Nothing about the evil teams though, too early for story stuff.
Makes you wonder what they would show at E3 in the following week.
Nothing mainline. Doesn't Pokemon main games usualy avoids the e3 completelly?
Maybe Animal Crossing? Since it was announced before Pokemon i always thought it would be released first but it doesn't seem likely since we haven't heard anything else about it until now.
So it starts!!! I wasn't really minding the long wait for more information since Gamefreak ends up revealing pretty much everything they have before the game comes out anyways… but I really wanted some more info on the starters (in game footage, some additional concept arts like we got for the Alolan trio).
Anyways, before things start to come, time to lay out my 'mon wishlist:
I just want an Ice Fighting type that isn't hideous.
And my pipe dream is going back to Mega forms. I thought those were fun and I want Mega Feraligatr.
Impossible Wishlist:
-Faster battle speeds, or even better, custiomizable battle speed.
-Not too many Legendaries
-No Gen 1 pandering
-Most of the new Pokemon being New Pokemon and not Megas/Regionals
-Instead, I want a lot of Megas/Regionals for the third version and/or Sinnoh remakes, like they did with ORAS. That's my ideal handling for New Gens from now on.
-I also want a LOT of new Pokemon. I've always thought the whole "Quality vs. Quantity" debate was a false dichotomy since my three favorite sets of Pokemon are the largest ones (Kanto, Hoenn, and Unova).
-Whatever kind of new Pokemon we get, I want them front and center and a big part of the main campaign. Trailers show we won't be getting only new ones like in Gen 5, but I want it as close to that as possible.
-Grass/Fire chilli pepper.
-Non-Dragon Psuedo-Legendary
-Even though I don't think it will happen, I want the "Galar is connected to Kalos" theories to be true.
-Buff Ice-types. Please.
They haven't added a lot of legendaries the last two gens, they overdid it in 4 and 5. There will be gen 1 pandering, they just remade the Mewtwo movie this year.
Friendly reminder there is a press conference scheduled to start in 1 hour: https://www.pokemon.com/us/press-conference/?cid=prodlaunchConference:May&utm_source=prodlaunch&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Conference&utm_term=May
The Pokémon Company is hosting its 2019 Press Conference in Tokyo, Japan, on Tuesday, May 28. You can watch the event live here at Pokemon.com starting at 6 p.m. PDT. The press conference is expected to cover a number of topics of interest to Pokémon fans.
And look forward to a Pokémon Direct on June 5 for more news on the upcoming Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield games.
I don't expect it to reveal any new SwShi content, but still worth mentioning.

This is a great endorsement as Black White 2 were the last great Pokemon games and if that's your taste in Pokemon media, it must be similar to my own.
Also, i don't expect the games to be worth it for me, personally. I don't want a Breath of the Wild style revision, but I hoped they'd add some depth to exploration. It seems to be the natural progression of HM's. The SM system is more convenient than HM's, but actually less inspired in regards to how they're used in game. A system that really let us explore in new and unique ways and feel like we're experiencing the power of the respective pokemon would have been just the push i needed to get a Switch.
I do hope that whatever they show proves me wrong though, but I'm more inclined to believe we're just getting a console version of what they've been putting out on the 3DS.

Well, for what it's worth I'm a fairly casual fan. I haven't played Let's Go, and I skipped vanilla Sun/Moon and just played Ultra Moon (Kind of regret it tbh, I feel like I would have preferred the originals), haven't bothered with any anime/manga, and the only side games I played were Pokemon Picross and Magikarp Jump.
Things announced at the Press.
-Pokemon Sleep: Affect gameplay by sleeping.
-Pokemon Home: Basically a sucessor for Pokemon Bank
-Pokemon Masters: New game by DeNa.

Sure, Ultra Beasts weren't TECHNICALLY legendaries, since you could catch more than one of them per game but…. they were end game locked rares, at the end of the pokedex after the other legendaries, with insane stats in the 570-600 range. Legendaries in all but name. And there were a ton of them.
Pokémon home nigth address my region issues. And might make me go back to…go for legit legendary hunting.

What, you didn't like X/Y? I loved X.
Do you guys think there will be some type of theme to the starters?
like how generation 6 is based of RPG classes (Fighter, Mage, Theif)

Dunno. But at the very least what is assured is another extinct species for the final evolution of the Grass starter. It has been tradition since Gen I.
Oh yeah, the great extinct tortoises and snakes. Not one in the world. And who could forget the favorite extinct bird, Owls.
Oh yeah, the great extinct tortoises and snakes. Not one in the world. And who could forget the favorite extinct bird, Owls.
Well, to be fair Decidueye is based on an extinct owl and Torterra is a dinosaur. But yeah, Serperior not being an extinct snake already forces people to go to stretches like "but in this case they are showing the evolution process of snakes".
All that because the American branch of GF decided to add -saur to Bulbasaur's line and people were blinded by it ignoring the original grass line has nothing extinct about it.
Sure, Venusaur is a giant toad, forgot about that.
Torterra is the most obvious, as is based on the ankylosaur. Decidueye is inspired in the stilt owl, and Meganium is a brontosaur.
The only ones you can argue they might not fit in the category are Chesnaught and Serperior.
I'm not convinced that Torterra is based on an ankylosaur as the characteristic thagomiser isn't there. Torterra, Serperior, Sceptile, and of course Venusaur aren't convincingly prehistoric enough for me to believe in that theory.
I still think Decidueye being a stilt owl is more coincidence than anything, but the logic is valid at least.
That said, I do feel like Chesnaught has some glyptodont characteristics.
The only thing that is guaranteed and has been a thing since generation I is that fans will come up with faulty theories with easy holes to poke through for what is guaranteed and have been things since generation I.
There's a direct tomorrow morning?

12 Minutes until Pokemon Direct
Big Bois
Wooloo hype.
Like most of what I'm seeing but:
Online required for catching certain Raid pokemon
bleh.
Finally. Sheep. Well I'm convinced, best game of 2020.
! Seriously though, that dark bird pokemon looks pretty neat. I hope it's not too common, cause it'd be weird if that thing ended up being Pidgey of this generation.
! Also, it's cute that they're showing us Hop's original name, cause I know everyone's going to rename him like…Butthop or something. Poor kid.
That armored crow is super-badass. And I also notice that instead of Surfing we do an Aokiji and just ride a bike out over the water instead.
Anyway that trailer does a far better job of selling the game than the first one did though I'll have to process there being raid battles and gigantification some more. I don't think the Legendaries look all that great this time but the Sword one definitely gets the edge thanks to just carrying one around in its mouth.
