you could say that the enemy plan of holding the hi shin unit down with their "strongest"formation was a bad plan, because of miscalculations. the general not being an instinctive type had to pay for his mistake with a huge drop in morale. because everyone was was sure of this tactic. so there is some credit to be given to ten and shin to be at the right place at the right moment.
Well pretty much every element of this wing was accounted for. So I didn't expect anything much different than this.
Not saying it's top class writing either, lol.
Hype formation was bound to fail, but so thoroughly? Maybe the "sands" in it's name means it's slow to adapt.
I love Karyo Ten delegating while playing to the strengths of the Hi Shin Unit. This whole battle is good because when they win it'll be a team effort and not some main character did it himself junk. Well, everyone except for the arrow brothers. We never see them in action anymore.
I agree with the arrow brothers who should be some elite guys and they are just gone. But second what a stupid move in the end to go and save them.I have a strong feeling he will pay it with his life and create some bitter sweet effect to remind us of dangers of war
New chapter out.

! Shousha's death flag was expected.
Kanto will be a commander someday i guess.
Shousaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!
Perhaps this was the point of turning.

…Pretty boy!!!!
I'm not crying, that's just the rain…
cause the sky's crying for Shousa-san :(
! Whenever Hara focuses on a side character for a chapter or two it's usually very good, this is no exception. I already liked Shousa and now even more so, which makes this a real bitch.
Hara, you sneaky bastard.
! I thought that beard commander was gonna die. An obvious pick if someone higher ranked had to die. But, it had to be someone I cared about. Monster.
I like that while we discussed how many Zhao generals would die, we never did ponder on the loses the HSU would have.

I ll just quote myself..
Damn you, thought the new chapter was out!

! Well I hoped Shousa might still be kicking, but its a nice surprise still. Those last couple of panel were hillarious. "If ya gonna stab me, then do it!" and "Right back at ya, dumbass!"
Hehe, saw that as well just now.
! Good chapter altogether, but with the enemy commander on the run I have a hard time seeing how they are going to achieve anything unless Ten has some actual strategy that involves Kyokai or the archer brothers. I mean, it would be awesome if the cavalry were only a decoy to push Chougaryou out into the open where someone else can finish the job. But Hara seems hell bent on hitting us with Shin's stature as Ouki's successor, so I doubt we'll get anything other than brute force and willpower.
No actually she spoke about the ace in the sleeve so that is naturally coming as we speak in 1 max 2 chapters
Both Kyokai and archers bros have been suspiciously missing. And Chougaryuu showed them what he tends to do when he feels like he's losing just a day before. Ten should have expected he'd try to flee, but also that she might become the target.
Meanwhile, Chougaryuu is spilling out one perfect epitaph after another. :ninja:
Early chapter.
http://sensescans.com/reader/read/kingdom/en/55/594/page/1
It has been a long time since Kyoukai used the dance.
! So it's brute force through and through. The enemy's elite has us surrounded, well no problem let's just throw them in the Kyokai brand meat grinder. So much for strategy
So much for strategy
THIS SO MUCH
I hate that its sucking all the joy out of that arc.
Why is Hara so adament in refusing to have any strategy used by the HSU at all, not even some simple moves?
What the hell is Tens role, if they just blindly rush forward and hope to overpower the enemy in the end?
And what was all the talk of the food situation about, if they have no problems and enough stamina to simply roll over the bad guys?
Also, like always, what the hell is Ousen doing? He lost his wing commanders, he lost Ouhon, he might just lose his last commander there, Shin (yeah not gonna happen, but he doesnt know that Shin is the protagonist of the story), and he just doesnt care. What ever he may pull off at the end to win the battle or draws it, it wont change that the majority of it was based on blind faith that his army might survive against all odds. Great master strategist here.
It sucks to be so pessimistic about an arc that should have been epic and promised to be one of the best, but at that point both Ousen in general and the Hi Sin Unit in particular simply do not deserve to win that battle.
Isn't what they are doing simple strategy? Hit points of interest, when the formation is unbalanced, hit again.
I have no military training so the closest thing I have as experience for strategy etc, was the time I played basketball for a club. And to be honest, even though it was a high level and we went to international tournaments, we only really has 3-5 strats. Everything is mostly done during training so you can perform your tasks at a subconscious level even.
Right now, I see the HSU strat the same way as when a team would put their big player posting up, and you simply pass the ball for easy baskets. It's not mind blowing but it works.
Also using brute strength has to come with strategies behind them. Or has everyone forgot how Shin almost killed his entire team when they did not have a strategist and Kyou Kai was not around? They might not be saying: USE TALON RIPPER 52! but it is still there. The HSU has always been about brute strength, so it is how they can use that to its full potential.
So, really, more than refuting, I wonder: what exactly do you want to see? Could you be specific, because in my eyes they are using simple moves.
^ Agreed, knowing how, when, and where to put your bruisers counts too. A little can go a long way. But, I also agree there's too much of a wall for the HSU to climb. I think them starving while seemingly being at full strength is the tipping point. If they were doing all this without that plot point I'd believe it more. I don't have too much of a problem with Ousen. He's doing that 3D chess strategy big brain tactics that's stupid but authors do it because it makes the person look cool but it's not if you think about it for 20 seconds thing I've seen a million times, so I'm numb to it.
But, hey, I'm still enjoying the ride (and a prominent HSU member dying is a good consequence) and if all this is leading to the arrow brothers getting the commander kill I'm even more fine with it.
That's the thing, the author presented the opportunity for some of the veterans, not to mention the overall loses that the HSU will suffer. Sure they can replenish the fodder. But if the author ends up killing 1-4 veterans then I can accept this desperation attack. Sure we don't get the almost squad wipe, but we lose a couple of characters we have followed for a long time. Which gives time for one of the rookies and Naki to fill in the spot.
@K.:
So, really, more than refuting, I wonder: what exactly do you want to see? Could you be specific, because in my eyes they are using simple moves.
What I want to see? Some actual tactics that offsets their own disadvantages. You have said it yourself
Also using brute strength has to come with strategies behind them.
But here there are none: Just blindly attack, ignore everything that the enemy is doing and hope to just break through by blind force; oh we've got encircled, how could that happen, eitherway, just trust that blindly attacking will save us.
Okay, if its that easy, if a weakened, starving, outnumbered HSU with very diminished allied support can simply overwhelm their adversaries, why have they not done that from the beginning?

The problem I have is that he is not even doing that.
You have his unbalanced formation on the very start, which was supposed to bait the Zhao right wing and which failed due to Ribokus teleportation tactic, but from that point neither he nor Riboku has really done anything.
This is a long arc, I would have been (more) okay, if just a single chapter or even just a half would have been filled with some good old HxH style wall of texts to describe how the two top commanders are playing mindgames against each other, but we have not even gotten that.
Okay, if its that easy, if a weakened, starving, outnumbered HSU with very diminished allied support can simply overwhelm their adversaries, why have they not done that from the beginning?
This exactly sums up my problems with the current turn of events.
We're told that the Hi Shin are going all out without concern for their own safety and supposedly that's the game changer, but it's not enough to make me shrug off the above. I would be more inclined to buy it if, say, giving command to Shin allowed to apply bold army-wide tactics on top of the rest. Or if Qin had scored major achievements in the previous days to weaken the Zhao left to a point where the balance can easily tip (admittedly they did, like kill Gakuei or wound the other commander, but none of this seems to hold any importance at the moment). But all we get is "let's attack even more fiercely than ever before". Meh.
Also, agree with the RibokuXOusen mind chess thing. For all we know the Qin center and right could be having a giant picnic, we've barely heard about them in ages. Riboku and Ousen have been hyped so much since the beginning - one backed that with early tactics in the battle, too - and then, what ? Do nothing so that everything may rest on the protagonist's shoulders. I hate that ; if they're meant to be monsters, then by all means let them be just that and show some evidence of it on panel.
I think elder archer brother will play a critical role in the last moment.
Could be but completely skipping on them is a bit stupid its likevtheyvdont exist any more
Not to mention this situation now is where a couple of OP archers could really make a big difference.
It's not like Hara to forget any elements in an army or alliance, so I fully expect them to make some difference by the time this is done.
! Not that it's any good. At least I'm glad we're done with the meat grinder and Shousa's agony, next maybe we can move on to some interesting stuff instead.
If I'm being honest, this battle can't end too soon now. A year ago I thought they might clash with Riboku at last, but now I guess he will just escape when things start going south. And even that may still be a long way down the road… So we're left with waiting for Shin to slay - probably thanks to even more brute force - Chou & Gyo, who aren't even very interesting as far as enemies go. Meh.
I liked the chapter although of course in grand scheme of things it feels like a drag
Oh my, those last few pages of the chapter really tugged at my heartstrings… I must've read them like 10 times. Powerful stuff :/
It's really no surprise that all those men would gladly die for Shin seeing how very much he cares for them.
I loved the paneling when Kyoukai cut that guy in the first pages of the chapter

Chapter's out.
! For a second, I really thought Shousa's death would shake Ten enough that she would actually do something.
Fortunately Shin's already on it, no need to waste her precious brains on actual thinking :getlost:
.

! She is probably working out all the contingency plans to fend off Riboku, because surely at least by now he would wake from his many days of slumber and show why he is the greatest living genius in china right now;
Awesome ^^

! Flashback within a flashback, but OUKI! :D
The use of spoiler tags in this thread literally serves no purpose.
It's courtesy, for the first couple of posts after chapter is linked, anyway.
Don't wanna link the chapter and spoil it in the same post.
Yeah it's literally the first post about the new chapter. It definitely serves a purpose
Spoils ch 598

! > Shin: [I'm] a man who becomes a Great General!
CGR: Later you will…
! The subtility, it's killing me. MOÂÂR POWAAAA, BRUTE STRENGTH FTW AAAOOOOOOOOH!!!!!11!1
At least someone's getting something done. No complaining on that front :ninja:
It was good seeing Ouki in a younger, less experienced version. Gives a little hope that Shin won't remain a total buffoon all his life.
Guess Shin got quite a recognition from Chou.
To be honest this chapter was quite lame and straight forward.
slash slash now my turn slash slash done…
Didnt like it

Lucky I didn't see your post before PH's.
There's no rule stating you should link the chapter and not spoil some of it, but it's a matter of courtesy.
And yeah, the fight sucked. Hara just abandoned choreography alltogether here.
And yeah, the fight sucked. Hara just abandoned choreography alltogether here.
Same here : by now I just want it to be over. There were some forced traits in the Yotanwa / Heki front, but a few brilliant scenes as well so I was still into it. Shin & the left wing, however ? Events are overly dragged and the conclusion isn't even worth the wait. I'd much rather Hara switched back to Kanki & the siege, or (a fool's hope) showed Ousen actually doing something.
I see, gladly noone here is reading spoilers
! For some reason I have a feeling that even the ones who were not as disappointed with the recent chapters and the lack of strategy, might find quite some issue with the next plot point
! Houken be my name!
