Wow. That one is… kinda dumb looking.
Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest

-
First remotelly interesting feature added.
-
A metapod master, lmao.
Also the Kabutops trainer was using Absorb/Mega Drain?, i think it actually learns that, at least in Gen 1.
-
Yes, I think that every attack was valid, I know that Kabuto can do drains, and Pinsir can do rocks, and Lapras/Gyarados can do fishy things.
-
Through normal level-ups or TMs?
-
checking bulbapedia, Gyarados learns thunderbolt by tm, Lapras solar beam by gen 1 tm, Pinsir rock throw, and so forth.
-
A metapod master, lmao.
Was that a reference from that episode in season 1 with the Samurai guy?
-
The ditto one is actually impossible.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Hype died down, I mean the titles are cool, and the post game content is welcome, but the challenges themselves will boil down to "who is faster" as you will either trade super effective moves until one dies, or try to be cute and status effect em' and trade super effective moves until RNJesus smiles at you.
-
oh god you have to use a metapod.
Prepare for 30 turn struggle vs. max defense battles -
So the post-game banks on wanting to catch them all? Haha, no thanks.
It's not a good sign that every time I hear new info I consider cancelling the pre-order.

Cool design, I like it. I also see they aren't even being subtle with the Sinnoh references.
This makes Meltan the first mythical to have an evolution. The franchise keeps breaking molds.
-
I’m not usually the sort of person who calls a Pokemon ugly, but that thing is ugly.
-
Oh look. It's Mecha Regigigas
-

I've seen it worse.

I've seen it worse.
https://assets.pokemon.com/assets/cms2/img/pokedex/full/689.pngAnd I've seen it even uglier than that.

This makes Meltan the first mythical to have an evolution. The franchise keeps breaking molds.
Cosmog had three evolutions, including a box legendary branch at the end.
Phione-Manaphy. Sort of.
And toooons of them have had alternate forms, like Deoxys, Shaymin, Giratina, all the genies, Hoopa… which are basically evolutions without a new dex number. And some have had mega evolutions.
So not really the first.
-
The first to have a numbered evolution, but you get my point. Cosmog ain't a mythtical mon btw.
-
Also Mystical =/= Legendary.
What defines an evolution is the different name and dex number. Only Cosmog treads in this niche, and for that one, see above.
-
The first to have a numbered evolution, but you get my point. Cosmog ain't a mythtical mon btw.
The difference between legendary and mythical is so arbitrary as to not matter. if you only get one of it and it doesn't breed and it leans towards ridiculous stats, its a legendary.
Also Mystical =/= Legendary.
Yes, mythical are only obtained through event trades. And then there's sub-legendaries when their base stats are below 600. It's such an arbitrary distinction that makes no difference to the actual game there's no reason to even have multiple terms except technicality in order to hide the fact there's like 70 legendaries now.
-
I saw this Melmetal image going around yesterday but I completely brushed it off as Meltan (bad) shitpost, not even reading the text going along with it.
Only today I saw the "Melmetal" name and realized it was a real new pokémon.
Yeah, I decidedly am not a fan of this line.
As far as first contact goes, Gen VII won this (Magearna left a very good first impression on me - and the rest of the gen lived up to it). -
I like Magearna, but I'll take this little nut over that one. Liquid metal which combines to create an humongous Regi-like mecha? Sign me up.
-
I'm actually not a fan of either of these mons. They're kinda just…..there.
-
The little one grew on me, I still don't like the single eye, but it kinda works.
The big one doesn't bother me much, but it's because is like Registeel got eaten by the little one. It is derivative, but not too much.
-
I'm not fond of Meltan or Melmetal, or Magearna, or many of the gen 7 legends/mythicals, though the Ultra Beasts and Tapu Koko were pretty great.
-
The tapus I found dumb individually, but as a full set I kinda like.
Some of the ultrabeast work as something super alien, but the ones with eyes, I think Pheromosa and the little poison dragon fail that mark.
Zeraora is Lucario's blonde cousin. Magerna needs to be seen in combat to apreciate the moving parts. I hapen to like marshadow except his color change.
-
I think the Tapus were pretty cool, mainly for the role they played in Alola. Guardians of each island, and not eldrich creatures that control facets of reality, it matches up with Gen 7 being a little more localized in its plot. Hell, one practicially forced Nanu to be Kahuna.
I used to dislike the UBs, but I can respect the unsettlingness they bring, also matching their role in the games. (that doesn't mean they're all winners design wise, but still)
Marshadow is another one really just there, and not as cute as Mew/Celebi/Jirachi/etc. There's also that weird water/fire thing i have no idea what's it about.

Volcanion. It's gen 6.

Risking sound like a wunner, I actually think legendaries got worse as generations went. Until this day I like most of the legendaries from Gen 1 to 3 and even the ones I don't are just as bad as "whatever"; from Gen 4 onward, I can count on one hand the ones I like and even those are not a strong like.
Unless we are including the Ultra Beasts. I love those creatures.
Guardians of each island, and not eldrich creatures that control facets of reality,
I agree with that, I prefer them legendaries less godly.

I think the legendaries from gens 1-3 are all really strong; every single one of them. In gen IV there were way too many and most of them were either badly designed (which including the box legendaries) or just ridiculous conceptually. Some gems though, like Darkrai, Shaymin, and Giratina. Gen V is close to Gen IV in that there are too many, but I think the quality of them is slightly higher, though I know they're pretty polarizing, especially the weather trio. Gen VI was as good as the first three gens IMO, with not too many and all of them (save Volcanion) being high quality. Gen VII is weird. Not bad, but not great. I like the box legendaries, but all the others feel lacking.
-
I think it's also because when you have so many legendaries, you kinda start to run of things for them to preside over. And GF kinda peaked with Dialga and Palkia controlling TIME and SPACE, followed by Arceus the God.
…..in gen 4, of currently 7.
-
Seriously, go take a look at the regis and Lati@s. The Regis barely look like a mon, and The Lati@s feel fillerish.
Can't defend 4th gen, the GODS of time, space, antimater and EVERYTHING work, but half of them aren't astethically pleasing.
Creselia and Darkai work as long as you don't think of darkai's weird little legs
The mind trio doesn't work, they are too similar, like the Djinis
Heatran, Shamyn, Manaphy aren't legend material. Phione is just whatevs.
Victini while works, being given to you super early just made that one travel and experience meaningles, just promotional garbage.
The deers tho, their designs click, they have a good theme going on amongs them but no lore, being a shame.
The big gons, Kyurem is the weak point, as his brokennes doesn't translate well into astethically coherent, and we never meet the original ying yang dragon. Zekrom is pretty good, Reshiram is good enough.
The Djinis beast forms, while their Djin form is just too similar, the beast forms are too all over the place. The same face over 3 different animals. Don't like it. Landorus being the bane of VGC doesn't make things any better.
Genesect is neat.
Zygarde whole deal is again too over the place, from bacteria to dog, to giant snake to gundam. Do not like.
Xerneas and Yveltal I think they were pretty neat, specially Xerneas.
Volcanion isn't legends material.
Cosmog Line I enjoyed. Middle form is filler but plot justified one so I forgive it.
Remembered everyone except Meloetta, Hoppa and Diancie. Shows the impact that they had.
Didn't rank Deoxys, Jirachi or the weather trio as they are ok, by virtue of being better than the other half of legends/mysticals of their gen.
-
Gotta completely disagree with you one one thing. Everything about the regis from how you get them to their locations and design is completely awesome. They certainly look like they are supposed to. Three golem pokemon.
As for the latis, they didn't have a specific role, but they still have neat designs.
-
Oh, true, forgot the braile stuff. I never finished gen 3 or 4.
-
I really like Shaymin. (Its flying form not so much.)
I also really wish it wasn't a legendary. Stats are too high to use in-game, even trading in a low level one to start the game.
Other than that I really like the legendary cats, Suicune especially, and Lugia.
-
Shaymin land form is super adorable and Latias is my favorite mon.
-
My issue with Shamyin and Manaphy is that they don't look legendary enough. They would be perfectly serviceable as forest hedgehog, forest dog and sea fairy humanoid jellyfish.
With the Latis is that they are too stiff, their bodyshape seems to be incapable of relaxing in a credible way, like they are winged ferrets or something too mamalian to be a proper dragon.

I was going through old back up cd-rom and I just found out my Sapphire save game (I only started playing real games on Gen VI, before I never had handhelds).
My first surprise was the fact I played the japanese version. I honestly to god couldn't remember that. Now I'm pretty sure the same happened with Silver… I remember I forced myself to learn katakana because of a Digimon game (so I could find out which final form an egg could acheive before breeding it), and apparently I already had a notion of it by the time I played Sapphire judging by my character's name.
My team! How underleveled... all of them are lv45~49:
I only knew for sure it had Sceptile, Aggron and Flygon. Finally I can know for sure my whole team: Swellow (unsurprisingly, always my favorite birb), Mightyena (this one was a total surprise), Lombre (… not even a fully evolved Ludicolo? Wtf me?).(EDIT: MY SCEPTILE HAD FLASH!)
Visiting the game also reminded me I always boxed the pokémon on boxes with matching "background" because I liked to think they would feel more comfortable (... oh god)
Man, if I find my Blue save state I will probably cry.
-

To be fair, I don't think most people knew where to get a Water Stone without a guide.
-
don't worry, I remember my first Ruby team having like 4 grass types. I got totally walled by Drake's Salamance, which knew Flamethrower.
-
So I'm finally doing my playthrough of Ultra Moon. Yeah, there are some new things like the new bad guys and the Mantine surfing and I guess they added/changed up Pokémon locations. But it still largely feels like I'm just going through the most of Sun and Moon, making this essentially my third playthrough of the game, and still feels really tedious.
I really do think I might be ready to say that this is the worst Pokémon generation.
-
I found a Blue save, but no emulator I find can read it…
Too bad, I always wanted to know what my original team was :/ I know it had Blastoise, Butterfree and Articuno... but that's all I know for sure.
! I consider Mewtwo part of my "Gen 1 Team" too because I remember I still played dozens of hours after beating the Elite for the first time and Mewtwo was always there, but obviously it couldn't be part of the team that beat the Elite for the first time (young me had no problems with having legendaries in the team).
Dugtrio and Snorlax are the other two I believe were part of the team, but I am never sure. I know I used them a lot at some point, but with all the rematches and grinding I did with many pokémon on the post-game it's hard to tell.
Zapdos maybe? I remember using it at some point with thunder, thunderbolt and pretty much only redundant moves… but I remember I hated its design back then, so I doubt I kept it for more than one or two Elite challenges. To be fair, I don't think most people knew where to get a Water Stone without a guide.
Yeah, I remember playing it another time just to find it on some sort of sunken ship and once I finally did it I felt like I could stop playing. I suppose now I know why I was so adamant on finding the stone, I must have been frustrated on the original playthrough…

Gen 3 I at least remember having some fun with and it not stopping me every ten seconds for a cutscene.
-
I thought Gen 4 was the worst generation, personally. Half of the pokes introduces were related to Gen 1-ers.
-
He's talking about the journey, not the friends you enslaved along the way.
While alola is beautiful, the mons very good, and the story is passable, it takes another hard nosedive in difficulty and the plot kidnaped you very frequently. It is not terrible in the first playthrough, but I'm guessing it gets a lot worse in repeat.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
But yeah, mons wise gen 4 is my most hated one.
-
Gen 4 is my personal least favorite yeah. 3rd gen is my second fav after gen 5.
-
Gen IV has the worst mons, maybe, but Gen VII and VI are super slogs with all of the unskippable cutscenes, especially the last one. I also prefer gens with a lot of new pokemon so for me.
Gen 3> Gen 5> Gen 1> Gen 2> Gen 4> Gen 6>>>>>>>>>>> Gen 7
-
Gen 3 is also my personal favorite. To me, it hits the balance between adventure and plot pretty well- it's definitely a trek to reach some towns, but it never feels too drawn-out. Pacing is pretty good too.
Gen 7 feels similar to Gen 3, but instead of letting you actually explore and journey places, everything is so tightly packed that it feels like everything is somehow both sterile and a slog. I think it's one of the best generations in terms of Pokemon but the games themselves are not good.
My ranking: 3>2>5>1>6>7>4.
6 is by no means bad, but it feels rather forgettable. 7 and 4 are distinctly unenjoyable for stretches.
-
It's hard to tell, I had a lot of fun playing X on the first time, but then I went back to it this year to do a mono-type playthrough and… that was painfully boring and all the beauty talk was downright embarrassing. Also it is a hit and miss pokémon list with me - the ones I like I REALLY like, but most of them are just whatever.
I don't know if the same would happen with Sun or if I tried to play the Ultras, but at least on my only playthrough so far Gen VII managed to provide me as much fun as Red and Blue - except now I was a 30yo man -, so it really stands on the top of my list. Amazing new pokémon (I would run into a new addition to my team every 2 or 3 routes) and a region bursting with life.
I am totally biased towards Gen V entirely because it gave me everything I wanted as far as bug-types go... I don't really remember White a lot, I think I had enough fun with it, but it is really all the great bug types that make this generation one of my favorites.
Gen IV is probably the only one I have a general negative impression, so add me to the group. Diamond was the only time I actually dropped a pokémon main game before finishing it (I didn't even fought all the gyms). If in V I had trouble picking a team of only 6 and in VII I didn't even bothered trying, here I went with a team of 5 and I didn't even liked all of them.
Still, somehow I am really anxious to give it a new chance when it gets a remake and I will just pretend it is my first taste of Sinnoh (and thankfully nowadays some Gen IV evos grew on me, so having a full team won't be a problem). Redeeming feature: probably the most solid trio of starters to date.
