@AvocadoInTheRain:
Lol, do you really buy that? Everyone on the crew fights. How would someone with that as their official role differentiate themselves from the rest of the crew? Do you seriously believe that a character introduced so late would get more focus in fights than the monster trio?
I said that it can be the role, not that it should be the only one they have. And they would differentiate themselves from the rest as any other Strawhat differentiates themselves from the others, through design, quirks, strengths, weaknesses and so on. Being a combatant doesn't mean they should get more focus than the monster trio (which hasn't really existed for a long time now). Why can't it be like in Dressrosa, where the Strawhats were all over the place and new-person-combatant gets focus like Cavendish, Bartolomeo or any other Straw Hat Fleet member got?
@AvocadoInTheRain:
It can be. It depends on the ship's mission. Charles Darwin was the biologist of the science vessel HMS Beagle. A ship on a diplomatic mission would be staffed with negotiators and diplomats. A merchant ship can have an appraiser as a full time member. A fishing vessel would have all sorts of specialized roles to take care of the different equipment like repairing nets, or maning the harpoons.
Yes, because these ships had a need for these types of role. The Straw Hat's have had no explicit need for an archaeologist (yet, yes, I know), just like they have no explicit need for a biologist, negotiator, diplomat, appraiser or any other role that is not needed on an average ship.
@AvocadoInTheRain:
She has used it to identify treasure in the Jaya arc, and its her conclusions that lead the crew to go find more treasure in the sky. Also, its her skills that will find the one piece.
She has used it to identify the location of an ancient city she's interested in, not because she was looking for treasure. There happened to be one but it was not her goal.
@Blissed:
I mean, it's not impossible, but in these discussions no one would really take you seriously if you insisted that a candidate can just simply be another fighter, and for good reason. It's one of the few criteria that has been completely consistent since Nami joined. Even Jinbe, despite him breaking all sorts of perceived conventions, still adheres to this criteria.
True, but I'm not insisting. I'm just pointing out that the possibility exists even if it doesn't make much sense from a storytelling perspective. Just like the possibility of a recent tagalong character joining technically exists but doesn't make sense as has been repeatedly pointed out.
