Chapter 428 "Let's Return" Discussion

@IT'S:
Yeah, Lucci's worm shit now. I love how the Scarface Vice-Admiral is all like, "Pfft. Whatever."
**For true.
On another note: 58 more days 'till the Wii launched in the US.**
-
is that really all there is? awesome!
-
They "know"? He's unconscious therefore cannot use tekkai. I'd say even a guy like Lucci would have troubles taking 9 human-sized cannonballs in the face, plus there's still the risk he'd fall into the sea.
They're taking a lot of chances for supposedly the most valuable assassin of the WG.
Nooo~o, I'm talking about "6 chapters ago." They weren't trying to "save Lucci" but rather kill Luffy. They "knew" that Lucci wouldn't die from that (knowing that he had geppou and not knowing Luffy), so there was apparently no problem sacrificing those soldiers in his eyes.
This was the post I'm referring to, if anyone forgets:

@IT'S:
OFFTOPIC:
Who was it again who had that signature where CP9 gradually got "PWNED"? I wanna ask him for permission to do that with my Buster Call sig. That would be Verbatim, i believe.
-
Thanks hyakamaru! I can't believe the Going Merry is back, but I'll give Oda a benefit of the doubt. I've enjoyed One Piece for so long, it would be petty for me to hate it over this.
I guess it's a good thing the Franky Family, Galley-La Shipwrights, and the Giants survived. The Strawhats will need all the extra strength they can get to fight off the Buster Call.
Actually reading the chapter changed my perspective, especially since you guys pointed out the Going Merry's Klaubatermann. I'm still slightly disappointed, but it's not a big deal. As long as they leave Enies Lobby now, that's fine.
What kind of homecoming do you guys think the Strawhats and company will get at Water 7? -
As I recall, the Rocketman drove into the Aqua Laguna on their way to Enes Lobby, so the wave was traveling from Enes Lobby to Water 7. For the Merry to ride a wave to Enes Lobby there would have to be some reverse tidal wave effect or something silly like that.
quote]I looked it up in volume 38 and I was right.
Aqua Laguna hits W7 while zoro and luffy are stuck in the buildings, after the puffing tom with cp9 on board had already left.
http://groups.msn.com/OnePieceMangav-3/volume38.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=7321
After it's passed w7 and continued on its course, the strawhats etc. board the rocket man and leave towards enies lobby. They then CATCH up to the tidal wave and zoro and luffy blast a hole so they can get through it as seen here:
http://groups.msn.com/OnePieceMangav-3/volume38.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=7388
SO, that means that the direction of the A L is Towards Enies Lobby FROM W7.
That means that going merry likely rode the wave, which could very well be here next chapter, allowing the strawhats to escape and saving the day. As long as the FF makes it back to the sea train before then, they ought to be fine as well.
Tsunami's can travel up to 500 mph http://education.yahoo.com/reference/encyclopedia/entry/tsunami
So, the surprising fact is more that the rocket man could catch up to it, not that it hits EL, also they can cause disaster thousands of miles from their starting point, as seen in Indonesia. Prediction: big wave about to hit.
-
no the waves heading from EL back to W7
-
A really emotional chapter….
Thought I would hate all the Merry is back thing, but it turned to be a good thing, after all, a big, unfriendly ship really doesn't fit the Strawhats...let's see if she is going to stay.... -
Really great and such a tearjerking chapter, love seeing that Usopp is joining back and the Going Merry shocked me there ^^
But its a good chapter ^^

Tank252ca & boigaa
Oh yeah, I like your theory about Aqua Laguna hitting the Buster Call. I liked it very much. It fits perfect! And it is not a deus ex machina stuff. It is a very well plan drawed by Oda.
- Merry is not shown dying. And it is released within a timeframe that the AL can catch it
- The SH pass through the AL, showing that Rocket is faster then AL
- Oda explained that AL has a great power of destruction in later chapters.
- Merry appears to save the day and boom… bringing with it AL.
God damn, if this is really the case, kudos for Oda!
And thx again for the chapter. APforum rulez!
-
no the waves heading from EL back to W7
Not unless there are two waves. Admittedly, it's hard to tell just from the rocketman sequence because the wave, being in deep ocean, is not cresting.
Still, if it hits W7 before they cross it on their way to Enies lobby, then the wave is also heading towards EL.
Edit: Also, if it were heading from EL to W7, then the Puffing Tom with CP9 on board would have crossed it, but they never did.
-
didn't the Puffing Tom got out of Water 7 and on their way to Enies Lobby before the waves come?
-
The chapter was very good…
the going merry back by iceburg...
on a new going merry...no the same
That's All
Some Brazilian here?
-
Did the Going Merry always have those metal bolts and plates welded onto it, or am I just remembering it wrong?
Kaku may have thought the Merry couldn't be fixed, but I'll bet both Franky and Iceberg shame Kaku in the shipwright department considering who they trained under. Going Merry + Battle Franky technology FTW (Imo). That ship may never be meant for a huge crew, but I give 10-1 odds that it's fast as sin now, and packs a hellified punch with the cannons.
( I bet somehow or another, the money Franky stole from the strawhats went towards Iceberg, which in turn went towards fixing up the Merry - somehow).
-
That was Boigaa's idea about Aqua Laguna (no credit for me) but it does raise some interesting possibilities.
didn't the Puffing Tom got out of Water 7 and on their way to Enies Lobby before the waves come?
Yes, CP9 made sure to leave Water 7 before the Aqua Laguna hit, and from that I assumed at the time that Puffing Tom would avoid it on the open sea as well. For Rocketman I was thinking more about the anime. I thought that Rocketman went through the wave from in front, not from behind (traveling with the wave). I'll have to rewatch the episode tonight. It's difficult to tell which way the wave is traveling from the picture Boigaa posted since only the bottom of the wave is shown, but I'm bothered by the fact that his first picture shows everyone yelling "Aqua Laguna" when the wave hits Water 7 before the Mugiwaras leave on Rocketman. That implies that they did indeed catch up to and overtake the wave. Hat's off to Boigaa if Oda pulls that out of his hat at Enis Lobby.
-
One thing that seems to be happening in this chapter is that the characters are hearing Merry's voice in their heads. At least, the other people around them don't seem to hear it (including Franky.) It's Merry who first tells them all to look down, not Usopp. Nami says "Who?!" and Sanji says "What is this?!"
I would count this as both a triumphant and creepy moment, and definitely not some minor "Okay now it's back" thing that will be brushed away next chapter with "Iceburg fixed it." Something majorly weird is happening that goes beyond carpentry. I hope someone more willing and able to give translations will come along soon.
-
Damn what an awesome chapter. The merry was speaking to them, what a great chapter. I hope the merry gets some sort of upgrade from franky, so it looks a little different from now on. That would be cool. Though this was an amazing chapter.
-
The Merry Go brought itself there….
-
If no one's doing the trans and need it, PM me
-
I never thought I'd ever say something like this of an OP chapter but… that was seriously pretty damn lame.
-
well im not sure on this chapter. I like the fact that ff and co are still around but im not too keen on why the gm is there. If theres a good explaination on how the ship got there then i would think that this was preety good but if not then i would be dissapointed.

This post is deleted!

Did the Going Merry always have those metal bolts and plates welded onto it, or am I just remembering it wrong?
Yes it had, that's the strawhat's repairs.
@odlam:Kaku may have thought the Merry couldn't be fixed, but I'll bet both Franky and Iceberg shame Kaku in the shipwright department considering who they trained under.
Chapter 351 Franky to usopp:
"You saw the bottom of the ship, right? The keel is broken, the outside plates are misaligned and the ribs are in pieces!! It could collapse with each wave that hits it!!"
-
I swear sometimes I get the impression that you guys are just looking at the pictures.
-
I get an feeling that GM is going to sail with the SH all the way to the end of the story. This means that there will be no new ships to buy.
-
Bah your right Elric.
Just part of me wants to be outside intervention. Im beyond fine with it if it's outside intervention.
If the ship just "wound up" at Enies Lobby, that'll be too much for me, even as the most rabid Oda fan. Especially with everything the ship would have had to go through to get there. If it's Iceberg or some sort of outside intervention? Good times. Just give me a semi-plausible explanation.
If its purely sappy with no explanation other than "nakama" spam? The whole arc gets brought down a notch honestly.
-
This chapter discussion seems pretty tame today. Maybe everyone ran out of spite in the spoiler thread.
-
I'm surprised no one posted this yet.
Here's pocketmofo's chapter 428 translation.

edit: also a scanlation. Thanks to warp for pointing it out.

There's also a scanlation….
-
one cool chapter didnt franky block a va attack
-
I'll say this again… Merry Go came on it's own. Ussop can hear Merry's voice.
-

well, we do know the power of friendship in op is boundless. It's probably the first time in the history of odaverse that a ship was loved so much that it's klabauterman came to repair it not only once but even a second time after the ship fell from the sky (!).
…not to mention steered the ship to EL, had a little mind-talk with the crew and then possessed a cyborg and became the next crewmember^^
-
Sanji: Sorry, just taking care of something uncool!! But man!! Things have gotten too crazy out here!! And here I figured that they wouldn’t fire since Robin was here!!
Now hush you Sanji Fanboys. I'm pretty sure that means he was doing something else.
-
It appears this thread has started to generate the flaming again. Once again I call for a lock/trim.
-
I went to send eblob a pm without looking farther down (for the trans/scanlation goodness), lol at exceeded inbox. :)
Thanks for the links!
-
There's also a scanlation….
whom are we to thank for that scanlation?
edit:
thx Nagash@mangahelpers :)
-
This Usopp line has got me intrigued:
"Ussop: Use that gomu gomu and fly over here!! I’ll take care of the rest!! We’re surrounded by nothing but the sea and the fleet!! We’ll get killed if we stay here!!"
Perhaps this is a hint that he'll be taking care of the Buster Call ships?
-
In any case, sounds like Merry can somehow talk now, even if it is spiritually.
-
Damn, this chapter has got me weirded out. I thought it was kinda boring though…

You know, this chapter seems a lot cooler after reading the translation…
Despite the fact that the SHs are hearing voices now.
-
"Sanji: Sorry, just taking care of something uncool!! But man!! Things have gotten too crazy out here!! And here I figured that they wouldn’t fire since Robin was here!!" makes me smile.
-

Yeah, I however if Sanji really was doing something "secret plan-like" or was the uncool thing guarding the granny, kids, and Chopper?
-
Sanji for certain did something else. I'm still betting on it being the Gates of Justice. Those gates are probably gradually closing, slowly causing the turbulent whirlpool to start up again. It will be up to Sanji's insight, Nami's navigation skills and Merry's will for the Strawhats to escape the coming storm.
-
Well, saving an old lady and a kid (and chopper) wouldn't really be 'uncool' for someone as chivalrous as Sanji.
Or maybe it's just that i want to see him in Mr.Prince mode again :)So am i the only one that thinks Merry returning made the Luffy-Usopp thing completely meaningless now? The whole spirit thing is a bit too lame for OP standards.
-
I'm not so sure how I feel about this chapter. Although I find it hard to picture the Straw Hats without Merry, I feel this this was kinda a cheap way out of a character "death". Merry was thrown out to sea during a huge storm for petes sake! I don't think it should be back. Oda, you got some explaining to do!
Other than the whole Merry issue, This was an okay chapter. Go go Paulie! And it's good to see Sanji back.
So not the best, but I still kinda liked it. Rating: 7/10

Wow, the final script ended up being so different from the spoiler script. This one's much more emotional and touching. That spoiler script must have been fake, or was it simply (major) translation errors?
