The New Nintendo Thread™

Wasn't last year's fairly short? I could be remembering wrong. I remember it being full of new content, when I expected Wii U ports and talk of Splatoon 2/ARMS.
It's still true that 45 minutes could be full of fluff, though.
-
Wasn't last year's fairly short?
about half the length here.
If it's like current Nintendo directs and rapid-fire announcements, then it's great. If not, I can't wait for developer stories overlooking the scenery of Japan for 20 minutes /s
-
God damnit, when I survive tomorrow I'll be in dire need of smash news.
-
We already know at least 6 titles to be talked there outside of Smash.

There was a leak a little while ago. One of them a port of Fortnite.

well, 3 would be Metroid, FE, and Yoshi?

Oh right. That stuff.

! -~6 minutes 20 seconds fluff (slightly above 25%)I am quite interested to see what Wii U ports they go for next.
Thinking about it, we have:
! Unlikely to be ported due to being wed to the wii u design (Game & Wario, Nintendo Land), having a sequel that feels pretty similar in place (Splatoon, Ultra Smash, and I expect Smash Bros sequel to be similar enough to warrant not releasing the Wii U version), being of their time (the olympic stuff), or sucking (Devil's Third)
! Nintendo Land
Just Dance Wii U
Splatoon
Wii Party U
Mario Party 10
Devil's Third
Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
Sing Party
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
Pokémon Rumble U
Wii Sports Club
Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival
Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games
Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games
Wii Fit U
Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash
Game & Wario
! Already done:
! Pokkén Tournament
Mario Kart 8
Lego City Undercover
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
Hyrule Warriors
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Bayonetta
Bayonetta 2
! Realistically leaving:
! Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE
The Wonderful 101
NES Remix Pack
Xenoblade Chronicles X
New Super Mario Bros/ Super Luigi U
Yoshi's Woolly World
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
Paper Mario: Color Splash
Pikmin 3
Super Mario Maker
Super Mario 3D World
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD
Star Fox Guard
Star Fox Zero
Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black WaterI think from there we can narrow down further.
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD seems slightly unlikely as it is already a port and unlike bayo does not help for an upcoming release
NES Remix Pack seems unlikely as it was a bundling of digital content
The Starfox games would need major reworking and had a bad reception
Yoshi has a game probably coming out this year already
Fatal Frame is the niche of all niches.
Super Mario Maker feels like it would be better suited to a full blown sequel with more content, as tons was missing from it.which leaves us with:
Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE
The Wonderful 101
Xenoblade Chronicles X
New Super Mario Bros/ Super Luigi U
Paper Mario: Color Splash (never played this so not sure how troublesome it would be to map to a gamepad)
Pikmin 3
Super Mario 3D World101 would need reworking but Kamiya seems very ready to do so.
-
W101 and XCX seem like the most likely ports to me. I really doubt they'd port NSMBU, unless it's part of an All-Stars collection with the other NSMB games.
Anyway, now that we're closing in, I think my wishlist is:
-New Smash having a substantial amount of single player content
-Something Pikmin. Either a 3 port or 4.
-Some idea about what the next Zelda is. It doesn't even have to be a trailer, I just want to know what we're in for. BotW style game? Skyward Sword HD? 2D retro style game? Four Swords? Tingle's Rupeeland 2: The Kooloo-Limpahing?
-Retro Studio's new game to NOT be the rumored Star Fox racing -
XCX being ported to the Switch is a given at some point. I enjoyed it a lot but also wouldn't want to sink another 180 hours into it lol.
I think we'll see a new Zelda but like a spinoff one. There's no divide anymore between handheld and console so that means the Switch will be home to the big major ones like Breath of the Wild but also top down ones like Link between Worlds, Tri Force Heroes, etc.
-

I don't think it's a given, but it's a strong possibility. I would definitely sink over 200 hours into it again, especially if they fix/remaster it in any way. Like what if they included more fleshed-out online/co-op aspects? Or just quality of life improvements.
-
Bigger fonts would help.
-
Bigger fonts would help.
Yeah, what is with that trend? They did learn their lesson in XC2, but then I play something like God of War and even after all their patches to fix font size and give you a size slider (which I have at the max), I still need to wear glasses to read any of the menus from my couch. Ni no Kuni 2 had the same problem.
-
Yeah Xenoblade X, Wonderful 101, and Pikmin 3 are the most likely for ports now. XCX is nearly guaranteed with the developers wanting it, W101 was teased with Bayo and a sequel may happen, and Pikmin 4 is coming eventually so a port of 3 is more than welcome.
I think we can expect to see Wii U Zelda ports too, and I think Skyward Sword will probably get a port too. There's going to be a lot of time before the next game, might as well fill it with games we've already played a hundred times.
-
I want ALL the pikmin, specially with the joy-con aiming. Other than that, I just recently finished XenoX or W101.
I do wonder if they are going to try and pull an splatoon again. Arms kind of fizzled out, but they must try again right?
-
Arms does ok, did better in Japan than in the west. Main problem with it is that it appeals to the same exact crowd as two other Nintendo fighters, Smash Bros and Pokken, and both of those games have either better infrastructure (Pokken being supported by Pokemon Company) or are just massively more popular, as is the case with Smash.
Efforts for that sort of project will probably go instead towards the next Mario Kart, but even that I wouldn't expect seeing just quite yet, especially if the star fox grand prix game is a thing.
-
Oh yeah, Mario Kart. With Pokemon Gen 8 as the monster release in holiday 2019 and MK8 Deluxe coming out only a year ago, even if there is no Star Fox Grand Prix I'd guess Mario Kart 9 will be holiday 2020.
But I would absolutely buy a Pikmin trilogy port, no question.

After e3, between Mario tennis and Mario party (June next week/start of October) what games are coming?

Octopath Traveler is in July

So, Agust and September are the orphans/non exclusive third party dependent?
-
About that Xenoblade 2 Expansion.
! I thought it would mainly focus on Addam and Hikari, since the plot is about the Aegis War, stuff anyone who played the main storyline already knows, how it went and how it ended. But Lora and Jin as the Driver/Blade main protagonists changes all. My excitement has skyrocketed.
-
I played XC2 for over 200 hours when it launched, and then I called it done. I can't muster any curiosity to even try NG+ or any of the patches, let alone new Blades, and definitely not paying more money for a tack-on story.
-
I didn't even finish it. I got tired of pressing the button to advance between cutscenes.
-
Was it that bad? which I assume it would be given how annoying it is to see the same cutscene of Zelda warning about the Blood Moon in BOTW was and that's like a 10-15 second cutscene.
-
I didn't even finish it. I got tired of pressing the button to advance between cutscenes.
I mean, I get being tired of watching the cutscene, but just pressing the button to skip it?
-
lol Wagomu is being kind of dramatic. But the game definitely has poorly-paced areas where it's just cutscene followed by 10 feet down a corridor followed by cutscene, sometimes repeated multiple times. Sometimes with annoying Blade-juggling to satisfy arbitrary field skill checks. And I do think the story is pretty dull. As I've said before, I'll take X any day.
But that said I enjoyed the game enough to 100% it. It still has some overall fantastic environments and music and battles. I just wouldn't pick it up again.
-
Monolith Software, give me a Xenoblade Chronicles Remake with Xenoblade Chronicles 2's artstyle and cut areas like Bionis' Shoulder. Shulk and Fiora look SO much better
-
For me it's one of the best rpgs I've ever had the pleasure of playing Not even Xenoblade made me attached to the entire cast. So I'm looking forward to the expansion.
-
What Foolio said. Cutscenes were big, long, happened often and often happened in sequence. At a certain point I just stopped wanting to do the plot anymore, and then I just stopped wanting to play.
Not the only problem I had with the game (a lot of all too linear gameplay sections, story liked telling you how you were defeated after crushing a fight, cringey characters, low incentive to explore, etc…), but cutscenes were definitely the most memorable and egregious. It's a shame, since I liked the gameplay, environs, some of the RPG systems, and spent more time than I want to admit doing the salvaging minigame, but the story killed the game's momentum and I don't feel like I missed anything by stopping.
-
That Daemon X Machina gameplay got me really interested (live on the Treehouse right now).
-
I didn't even finish it. I got tired of pressing the button to advance between cutscenes.
Sounds like Pokemon as of late.
-
I'll repeat it, please no more generic enemies as playable characters, give them a hat, or a backstory, or make them all king boo or something, I accept that it is fun to see these weirdos playing around, but if they keep saying "koopa troopa" or "this goomba", over Kooper Sheldon the fifth or Joomba the blue goomba, it's just boring.

There's a sale on twitch and 3DS titles
-
I forgot Etrian Odyssey V existed. May as well pick it up now for a little over 20 bucks. I think that'll finally fill up my 32GB SD card that's been stuffed with RPGs. This and Monster Hunter World should hold me until Dragon Quest in September, which is just coming extremely fast.
I highly recommend Theatrhythm Curtain Call for those that don't have it. There's a demo on the eshop and it's on sale for a decent 20 bucks. I think it's better digital so that you can play it whenever while you have your more involved game as the cartridge. As someone who hasn't played more than a few hours of a FF game besides this one, it's extremely fun. If you like rhythm games it's a must have, but I assume that the nostalgia factor comes into play as well. Other franchises really need to do comprehensive rhythm games; they seem pretty cheap to make. The Dragon Quest one isn't localized, otherwise I would have bought it despite its lack of songs compared to FF. Monster Hunter Generations is a great deal for 16 and there's an Ace Attorney game at 10.

And here we were joking about EA's stock taking hit after their E3 announcement.
-
Saw some demos of the Xenoblade 2 DLC, and I do would like some of that. But maybe when it is done.
-
After finishing (almost) everything of the Octo Expansion, I go to the internet to learn what is the final secret reward and see the reactions to the game, the theme was "dark souls but cute". It was difficult in parts, but none insanelly so. I was half expecting some vitrol on the feature to skip challenges after you fail them twice, but not counting to the final reward and costing you in game currency, but no mentions of it.
-
I have like 4 stages left. But I've been doing every stage with every weapon. I hope I get something for true 100% but I doubt it.
-
You are going above and beyond. It didn't seem to do anything different, specially the one with the horde of octolings and the ball. But I haven't heard otherwise either.
-
Oh, I just meant the initial selection where you get a check mark for completion. Definitely not counting times you can pick up a weapon once the stage has started.
-
https://mynintendonews.com/2018/06/17/new-tales-of-game-under-development/
A new Tales game is in development. It was inevitable. Just hope that there is a better effort into it.
-
At this point I don't know why it's news that they're still working on the series lol. It'll probably be on Switch given Vesperia and since they openly whore themselves out to the platforms with the highest userbase. But yes. They should try harder. Berseria was an honest effort but not good enough.
-
I'm considering getting a Switch for Smash but I haven't heard anything yet about a newer model. Should I hold out for the Switch U?
-
Wasnt there supposed to be a new Tales game for the Switch coming anyways? I wonder what happened to that one…
-

If they were to make a new switch model I would assume it would have 4K capabilities and bunch of other unimportant bullshit that won't really matter unless you're big on that kind of stuff.
