I'd still say Ban and Mel have a more well rounded relationship. For being an immortal and a demon they're pretty wholesome a lot lol.

Mito Ban and Ginji Amano

Dat moment when your useless piece of shits shonen main protagonists known to only fight and drink suddenly become fashion designers in a wasteland focused in having you naked.
Despite the ridiculous amount of context here, i'm pleased… the war, the weakling and the pupa were worse than this.

I wonder if Meliodas laughed because of Ban not realizing how strong he is, or at what he imagines people's reaction to him will be. One can not really fight for centuries and survive toxic environments without getting stronger. In fact due to the nature of his power, Ban is likely the only one who could train that way much less survive there. Maybe day time Escanor, but that is just based on everything even the environment being afraid to get near him.
-
Its the classic shonen training trope, but turned up to 11. Ban's too weak, how can we make him stronger? 1000 years of torture in purgatory, that's how.
-
Ban is my favorite. I'm perfectly fine with him being super OP for at least a while.
-
if hawk had ome with Ban his power level wouldn't be a joke anymore :-)
-
I just hope his power up is not something like "after expending centuries fighting in purgatory he has a lot more of experience now" because that wont cut it against the higher ranked devils.
Sigh… Even Meliodas laughs at how dumb this is
-
I liked Ban being weak because he had this extremely broken magic power and was technically unbeatable because immortality. Low power level was the only thing keeping him in check. But if we are not going to limit him, then best to go all the way up and make him just the strongest thing alive next to Meliodas and it seems that's where this is going.
Very good chapter, though. Gotta love the pig family.
-
Sigh… Even Meliodas laughs at how dumb this is
To me it's totally believable… Even Mel explains it in advance.
Hawk's brother and Fraudrin... who's cuter, uhm?
-
Yeah, it's not simply a matter of gaining more experience, but his body adapting to a reality that is 100000000x harsher than the one he was living in. In regular conditions he would fail in the first minute, but since he is immortal and the option of "failing to adapt" was taken from him, at some point after centuries and centuries and centuries he started getting there.
-
But a boar can't be a pig's brother.
Unless their mother had a wild lifestyle.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Did anyone else saw the side story that came after it? What the fuck was that?!
-
All of a sudden, Hawk coming back to life, Mama eating a firebird and surviving a beating from the physically strongest Commandment isn't that farfetched anymore.
-
I just noticed that the last page says after "Persevering through 500 years, They at last discover a guide". On the previous page were he said it has been 500 years since I've seen you meant that Meliodas had been in purgatory for 500 years before he met Ban again, but now I'm guessing it means that it has been another 500 year since they met back up… Interesting

It could be if purgatory's time passes faster than Britania's time

I certainly hope so, otherwise everyone else is dead.
-

why it's dumb?
it's a trope,sure,but it's a trope for a reason..it works and it makes sense. -
why it's dumb?
it's a trope, sure, but it's a trope for a reason..it works and it makes sense.I think its very plain to see. Ban gained a lot of physical resistance and now would probably use his power stealing move to a further degree, but even that wouldnt be enough to stand face to face to the strongest demons (and thats why Meliodas laughs at Ban suggesting it)
In any case the shonen rule here would be that winning fights without using your own power is not honorable and thats why Ban would never make any difference if he relies in that alone.
-

Ban is a thief type. I don't think he has issues using what isn't his.
Also I'm interpreting Mel's laugh differently. I don't think it was because he thinks Ban stands no chance. He wouldn't let his best friend be overconfident and under prepared in what's to come.
-

One could make the argument that robbing others of their power and using it to win fights is his power, but that is semantics.
To the best of my knowledge there hasn't been a hard and fast statement of how much Ban can steal. The fact that he overpowered Galand who's strength at the time registered 24,000 while his was 930 means that his ability has to be capable of taking at least 11,536 strength as that is 1 more than half of the difference in the two scores. The fact that he could not over power Estarossa (who's strength was stated as 53,000) after using the same technique suggests that he his upper limit is below 26,035. Very likely well below given the ease with which Estarossa ignored his hold.
Why try to figure that out? Well, even if he had the minimum ability of 11,536 and this training doubled that, he would be pretty much already in the realm of standing toe to toe with most of the ten commandments (basically the non demon king sons). Double seems a little low to me given the power increases we saw in King, Diane, and Gowther (all something in the magnitude of 10 times more at their peak). Either way, Ban's power is also notable because any increase he gets is doubled due to the fact that he gains when the other side looses.
Moving away from running the numbers, I'm still betting on him getting more than just a physical increase. I am guessing he will get some manner of spirit increase as well. Admittedly the story hasn't really stated how spirit plays into things though.

Aren't you guys missing out an important detail? To this day, Ban is the only of the Sins who still hasn't gotten back his Sacred Treasure.

If each sacred treasure works to increase the special powers of the user, what do you think Ban's sacred treasure will do?
-

Ban's Sacred Treasure is a rapier, and if like any other is meant to further enhance the existing qualities of the user, my guess is that Ban's Sacred Treasure feeds of the inner strength he steals from individuals, making its attacks increasingly deadly.
-
He gambled his away right? I wonder if he'll have a chance to reclaim it.
-
I thought it was a sectioned staff like what he currently uses…
Also I think the story was that the knights who captured him took his sacred treasure.
Could be wrong on both accounts
-

It isn't a rapier. It was just a random drawing of him in armor holding one. Remember that Escanor was first show wielding a spear and Ban used a staff back in Eidinburg. Unlike the one he currently uses it, it's a four-sectioned instead of three.
-
Now watch as Golgius, the only survivor of the Weird Fangs, is the one that has Ban's Sacred Treasure.

dressrosaestarossa because of the comandment of love negating his power. (if you are angry in his presence, you lose the strengh to harm others)I suppose that is possible, but I can think of two reasons I would not believe that was the case.
- He had just snapped Melascula's neck, which seems like it would be doing harm in the presence of the commandment, but even if that is taken out and he could only do no harm against the holder of the commandment…
- He didn't actually try to harm him. He just tried to restrain him after using his ability.

Gowther Sr sure did a number if everybody got fuzzy memories of Estarossa.I think it's something related to Estarrosa not being able to hold the commandments.
There's a chance Gelda is not death, since we didn't see her death in the Vampire's of Edimburgh side story.

I'm not sure but I vaguely remember from the spoiler therad in mangahelpers that Rai told that Mel sealed her once again. That's his bargain chip with Zeldris.

Man, those Purgatory chapters are so pleasant… love Wild.
Still impressed with Meliodas and Ban sewing abilities, though.

But what about Hawk's Mom?

And not by wild designer ones ?
Gowther is a good idea but it does not explain why he thinks he is Meliodas.

What if in some odd way he is. Like he was some previous cast off of Meliodas that gained it's own persona?
-
I would think he'd call him his son, not his brother. But then again maybe he's like one of those hidden twins.

It think that's it. The vibe is he's a tragic character.

ch272 summary:
! The trio meets the Demon King. Ban mentions how big the ruler is and Wild explains his size by eating the beasts of this world and acquiring strength. The Demon King wonders how they came here then understands that it's the boar who acted as their guide. He says they've realized aout the existence of a portal. Wild charges at him but got a flick from the Demon King. Meliodas and Ban turned their heads to look at him, act that Wild told them not to do as the Demon King attacks the duo with his sword, propelling them up. The Demon King tells them he will not let them get to the other side. Another sword swing and the end result is Ban getting his right hand cut off. It regenerates anyway and Ban uses Physical Hunt on the giant guy. But instead of sucking the Demon King's power, it's his which got sucked out. The duo falls to the ground with Meliodas catching Ban. The Demon King continues hiw sword attacks. Wild uses Zig-zag Wild and unleashes a thunder on the Demon King. He then uses Spinning Wild and uses his body to basically drill the ruler of the Demon clan. None of all that works on the Demon King as he grabs Wild and drops him to the ground hard. (1/2)
! The father of Meliodas tells his son he will not let anyone cross the portal as long as he guards it. Meliodas says it isn't him who gets to decide that, to which the Demon King disagrees. The latter then unleashes thunders on his son, who full counters the attack. Didn't work in him either. Meliodas says that the Demon King's magic is called "Demon King" or "The Ruler", another name. The DK says he wants to ask Meliodas before he turns them to dust. It's about Estarossa. Both of them can't remember him. The Demon King remembers everyone in the Demon King yet he can't remember that one individual, saying he's like an item. He then suggests his son to spill out what he knows about the second son. Meliodas tells him the part about his brother being born without power of darkness and being a coward. The Demon King continues that part by saying he took pity on him and gave him a decree. That shocked Meliodas and the Demon King says that everyone who knows about Estarossa got set up, that it's that one guy who's behind that. Meliodas has an idea who it is. It's the one who betrayed the Ten Commandments like the eldest son of the ruler. King, Tarmiel, Sariel and Derrierie are in the sky. The Purity notices that they're being followed. It's Gowther riding on Manta Hawk. (2/2)
! 273: Victim of the Holy War.
! More Gowther Sr keikakus, a DK eating purgatory monsters to gain power level. -
! But instead of sucking the Demon King's power, it's his which got sucked out
It's his what?

Gooooooowtheeeer!!!!
EstaMael theory just gained more gas.
And break next week. -
Reading that the Demon King's ability is simply called "The Demon King" or "The Ruler" kinda bummed me out. I had this head cannon that he become that strongest of the demons and ruled over them through effort. Now it seems like he was possibly just born with the ability that let's him rule them… Kinda sad.
I'm not pretending I understand it, and I may be way off, but if his power simply comes from his ability, then a person who's ability was to cancel abilities in others would be able to beat him easily...
All supposition, but just disappointing to think about.

He is a reality bender, from what I inferred of the chapter his ability is to make "rules" to reality, but we don't know how strong he need to become before it became a universal thing.
