They don't have to be elaborate special move systems. Just basic attacks and Smash attacks could incorporate more of a character's background.

Why is that Corrin gets all kind of moves from their game, while other characters like Samus, Pit, and Shulk got barely any?
In a nutshell it's what Robby said only more than that, it's making the character outright useful.
There's a balance that has to be maintained between being faithful to the character and making the character genuinely useful. What's more, messing up this balance can cause two different outcomes, that being making the character terrible and nigh worthless, or making the character ridiculously overpowered.
Basically, Sakurai tries as hard as he can to make the characters faithful, but if actual gameplay balance starts to suffer as a result, then the faithfulness is the first thing he'll start dialing back to fix it.
It just looks like Corrin had attacks in the original game that lended themselves better to gameplay in Smash than some of the other characters did. Then again, the ones you mentioned DO still feel like they belong in those games.
Samus has her: Arm Canon, Charge Beam, Screw Attack, Morph Ball, Morph Ball Bomb, Bomb Jump, Regular Missles, Super Missiles, and Grapple Beam, and that's just what I can think of off the top of my head. Plus, pretty much all of her alt colors are directly based on actual armor she has worn. Fusion, Gravity, Dark Samus, Original NES Varia Suit Colors, and Light Armor colors.

I don't think that explains anything. Or rather, it explains why one particular change was made. It doesn't explain why you can't design a character to have more versatility overall in the form of all of their dash attacks, tilts, aerials, smash attacks etc, without even getting into special movesets. I'm not particularly complaining about attack designs, but it's true that there's huge inconsistency in terms of the different characters and how varied their animations are / how faithful it is to what we've seen from them before. I also disagree with statements such as "if we just recreated their original moves, it would be boring." This is stupidly false.
I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that they felt like going all-out crazy with the new DLC characters. They already showed their desire to branch out (maybe out of boredom?) with characters like Rosalina and Shulk. But now it's add-on content? Shit, let's go crazy and make Ryu playable with traditional fighting game controls, let's make Cloud and give him Limit Breaks, let's cram every possible original game mechanic into Bayonetta.
Also your link doesn't work. It has a space in it.

That project M exists and manages to be more loyal to the origin of the characters while also being about as balanced goes to show that clearly Sakurai isn't really trying that hard.
That said, Pit is a terrible example of this, given that not only a lot of his uprising moves were devised for Brawl first, but they also went ahead and diversified his movesets to add orbitars, arms, flight and the three sacred treasures.
I don't see how Corrin displays any special favoritism in that sense. Imo most of the cast aside from certain series (Zelda, mother) are pretty well realized, more so than previous games. And those that are dumb tend to be because of legacy, like ganondorf's stupid moveset or Lucas and ness using 75% not their moves.

Just downloaded Bayo and gave her a couple minutes for a test run.
I have to say, I like her a lot. She has a similar "weight" and Jump as ZSS; but the best way I could describe her move set would be with the following phrases: "Directional, set up, smash".
In a nushell, she feels a lot like a "beat-em-up" character (something that feels very appropriate honestly). All of her big hits are BIG, but they can only go in a few directions. The rest of her moves seems to be in place for getting yourself in the position to delver those big hits. Her "weight" and Jump factor into this as well.
Is what I'm saying accurate? Or have I been mislead by my first couple rounds of testing?

One more thing. The music choices for Bayo:
Absolutely perfect.
Bayo has always had a kickin' soundtrack; but I love the fact that I can blast "Let's Dance Boys!" and "The Legend of Asier" while climaxing people off the stage.

Cool, Corrin's Classic mode ending references the box art of Fates:

[/hide]Kinda like how they used Palutena to be Sephiroth in Cloud's All Star ending, it's a neat touch.
Lol this was posted literally just a page back. Don't feel bad though, more people do this than they realize :P
Still an awesome ending though!
Bayo feels pretty awesome so far, although there's a lot I can still learn. Trying to figure out her combos took up most of my day, and her down aerial feels so satisfying when you meteor someone.
I like Corrin more than I thought, and I'm amused at all the bad Corrin players online. Too many are relying on the side B, and they aren't creative with it. -

So you know how everyone expected Bayonetta's Witch Time counter to be game-breaking?
Turns out Borrin's counter is fucking broken. As in, killing things at hilariously low percents:
https://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/comments/44kt7e/counter_surge_3_kill/ -
The game is balanced for optimal fun, especially for people who pay us upwards of 5 dollars for a character. Please understand.
-
This is particularly hilarious when you remember that Corrin's counter kills by launching upwards, and the "nerfs" they gave ZSS, Rosaluma and Sheik were decreases in their weight.
Which makes me think that their solution to the top tier was giving Corrin a broken as fuck counter and calling it a day.
-
Apparently any counter that can break Little Mac's super armor during his f-smash can lead to a kill, tho
Also [https://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/comments/44ocfu/this_is_not_how_counters_work/
S](https://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/comments/44ocfu/this_is_not_how_counters_work/)till probably a shitty counter to be countered by up in the air, tho. Overall, shoulda gave the knockback a more diagonal angle

Did some testing myself and it is indeed not as hilariously easy to counter-kill with Corrina as they make it seem. There were people saying they got killed by a countered red pikmin, and that just did not hold up for me.
Most hilarious though: counter an ambitious bayo who tries to finish a super high combo with up-B for hilarious results. LOL

Does this mean no more balance patches? Probsibly
-
The fighters themselves become the sources of new excitement. That’s why the new fighters can do things the others cannot, to bring to life a number of battles that did not previously exist.
My earlier suspicions confirmed.

@Purple:

I don't think so. They aren't the same thing.
-
Um, what's not the same thing?
If no one is working on the game, who's gonna patch it? Obama?
-
Do you think Sakurai designed Corrin to be broken purely out of spite? To get back at everyone for complaining about too many Fire Emblem characters? Or just one final parting jab?
It's sad that I think this is possible.
-
Who said Corrin was broken?
-
@Purple:
Who said Corrin was broken?
Well….
Although it can be broken with a pummel at any% and I think it only works on ZSS?
Seems too situational if they have to be in a right spot like that?

Yeah I saw that and it's definitely way too situational to be of any use, especially if you can't pummel them during that time.
-
Well, well, well. Prepare for this fan-base to start blowing up again!
-
Random balance patch hit. And Zero Suit got hit hard.

For everyone's reference, patch notes can be found here:

Yay Palutena being buffed for once! Eh for it being on attacks that were already really good and useful instead of, you know, remedying the end lag of half her moveset or leaving her with her best tools as custom moves…
-
Mario appears relatively unaffected, so I'm happy about that but…. the ZSS has hurt my roomie's game something bad...
-
Ganondorf got slightly buffed overall eh? Nice, I take it. I just have to find a Bayo amiibo somewhere soon before I completely dive into Pokken…
-
Bayo amiibo probably won't be coming out anytime soon, same for Corrin and Cloud. We actually just had Ryu and Roy released today.
-
But.. weren't they supposed to come out in march?
Edit: Oh man, that sucks. Thanks anyway, Noqanky.
-
Yea… Ryu and Roy... Cloud, Corrin and Bayo were announced to receive amiibo but they still haven't given us a release date.
-
I watch competitive Smash 4 sometimes so I'd love this to catch on. -
-
Bump for relevance.
Maybe we'll finally get that Bayonetta Nerf we've been needing.

That Began guy is at it again and he's come a long way with his Ridley mods. One day this kind of thing could be an official reality. One day.

A haiku I came up with:
! Almighty and vast,
Ridley is too big for Smash.
Sakurai said so.But in all honesty, Ridley would be a nice addition to the roster and give the Metroid series another rep other than Samus and Samus w/o Suit.

"Sakurai said so." lol
Hopefully one day Ridley gets included as playable. At the very least mods like this can really make a person think twice about Ridley's potential depiction in Smash. One die hard non-Ridley supporter I've been back and forth with for years actually acknowledged this particular mod as something that really made him see Ridley in a new light. Maybe some day Sakurai will see something there that wasn't there before.
Began is doing God's work. Bless him.

Supposed Smash Bros Switch images started floating around on 4chan (being on there doesn't help it's validity though)
To be taken with a grain of salt since there isn't anything that really proves they are legitimate.
-
Even if not legit, they look beautiful, and the implications are great
-
4chan, don't play with my heart like this
Y-Yoshi on his Melee target stage?? :O
-
Even if not legit, they look beautiful, and the implications are great
Can't disagree with you there
-
I don't see a single Ridley in those images, so it's probably legit
-
I thought they looked a little funky in places.
Still, that Paper Mario stage in HD is incredibly well done.
-
-
Pretty sure I've seen her name a bit before not sure of her credibility though
-
She has basically none.
-
Not touching Link because reasons, and clones because Duh, but would you like to see changes on Mario's, Zelda's, Lugi's, Kirby's movesets based on their more recent games?
Like Zelda getting the guardian's…
Fuck that noise, Urbosa for smash!
-
Link is pretty fun to play I don't know what you're talking about it.
-

We keep things civil here and don't bring Link's mechanics on BotW into conversation lightly.
Other than shield surfing I don't think that Link should be given much from BotW. Maybe change the bomb style to rune bombs.
