Really, you guys are doing this again? Pudding is joining the ranks of Bellamy and Rebecca as characters who receive ire from the fanbase despite having some of the most complex and well developed character arcs.
I don't mind Pudding getting redeemed, but that's still a pretty big statement to make when her third eye discrimination is never hinted at or the fact that her turning point came from a random compliment made by an idiot.
-
Up until the wedding, I agree. After the wedding, ehhhh let's wait and see where she goes.
She only got more well rounded after the wedding. Pudding being straight up evil was boring. It was like "oh she's evil, whatever just kick her ass and move on". Now she's very ambiguous and hard to read, and it's hard to tell what she's going to do next and what she really wants. So now it's like "OOHHHH, she's nuts, where will this go".

Oh, god damn it.
-
Knew my boy Zoro would reclaim his 2nd spot throne. Sanji back in top 3 woot. Ace is untouchable. Marco still in top 20 lol. Hancock stays in top 10 and still keeping Robin out (probably because Robin has been reduced to a sack of breast milk who barely fights and just supports now, at least Hancock's breast milk has some fortified haki to back it up). I wonder if these popularity polls affect who gets reintroduced into One Piece, Marco consistently appearing in the top 15-20 might be the reason why Oda decided to make him an ally for strawhats? I'm glad Rocinante remains popular.
-
-
That's the scar Jimbei should have gotten from Akainu.
-
Okay, interesting stuff! A couple of my thoughts:
Negatives -I mean, I do like Reiju okay, but her beating three Straw Hats? Including Brook?! And also Rocinante? What the hell?
-On that note, Brook is that low? The fuck, Japan?
-I was never as super-into Bartolomeo as many other fans (though I do like him), but falling not only out of the top 10, but down 20 places is definitely surprising to me.
-Was also expecting Nekomamushi to be higher. He's below Pudding? Really?Positives
-Well, at least he's above Shirahoshi.
-Haha, Doffy, your way-better brother beats you. Roci, the highest-rated dead flashback character ftw.
-Cavendish going the opposite direction of Barto, apparently. Cool to see him so high.
-Glad to see that Hancock, unlike Barto, didn't fall at all. You go, girl. -The big one: Jimbei. So happy he got so high! Should be the final nail in the coffin for the complainers who try to argue why he shouldn't join. (But let's be real, there'll still be complainers anyway.)
-And, of course, Luffy staying at his rightful spot of #1. Glad to see that the fandom didn't take Sanji's whole sob story thing as an excuse to put him at the top. (And while not everyone may agree, I'm glad he didn't jump Zoro, either.)
-I do like Law, too, but I'm happy with where he ended up. #2 felt too high for him. But he still clearly remains loved, which I like to see.
-Ace chugs along as ever. -
The Hippo guy that follows Kohza around.
Honestly Idk if its my memory being too OP oriented but did anyone else remember the red haired looking dude, who looked like a fox and was one of kohza's top guys who was tricked by the baroque work subterfuge when kohza tried to surrender
Apparently his name was erik http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/Erik

Sanji Vinsmoke was number third in the voting? I could not believe it.

He's not Vinsmoke Sanji, Vinsmoke Sanji died long ago as a kid.

Eh, I can get over the former bit since she was hiding the eye for most of the arc before then. Referencing it, even if subtly, would have been nice. And I don't mind that she got put into this redemption phase by Sanji's words. He's a moron, but the point was that she's gotten complimented over something she's been ridiculed over for a long time. But I'm sticking with my stance since her character arc is still chugging along. Her personality is very complicated and her desires are hard to read due to her acting gimmick. Her words don't necessarily match her actions, so she's still a massive wild card and she can go in a lot of directions. I'm most interested in what her personality will be by the end of all this - sweet Pudding, crazy Pudding, split personality Pudding? Which one is she deep down?
-
Well well, the top ten actually managed to surprise me since I expected it to remain relatively close to last time with some slight shuffling. Surprises: that Law dropped as much as he did given how strong his vote bulwark was last time and Jimbei doing far, far better than I had ever expected (I figured he'd get a bump, but not rocket up so high, leapfrogging over so many other characters). Poor Sanji, if he couldn't beat Zoro this time, well… I guess he'll be forever #3.
Outside the top ten, Bartolomeo sure plummeted, Corazon did pretty good as I expected, and I'm glad to see Marco drop a handful of spots. He definitely did not deserve to be breathing down the top ten's necks last time.
But it's a crying shame that Brook didn't really budge at all.

But it's still a shallow compliment. One that is made by Sanji after having his sister shot and his crew betrayed. That doesn't even appreciate Pudding for who she is, but just how she looks. And based off of pure random chance that somebody liked how she looked. I hope Pudding gets some cool twist moments later on when she inevitably becomes more of an ally, but I can't help feeling that's still weak no matter what kind of discrimination she went through.

I don't fully agree. I agree that it was dumb of Sanji to be like that to the enemy. But I do find Pudding's reaction justified. Getting complimented over something you're incredibly insecure about creates a big fluster of emotion that can be hard to grasp. Of course she's going to be taken aback.
-
Brook's main problem is that (with the exception of his confrontation with BM) he's an annoying character. The skull and panty jokes were cool for a while, but they've more than overstayed their welcome. At this point, he'd be better served by being the unafraid badass he was when he confronted BM all the time. No more whining or being afraid like Nami, Chopper, and Usopp. Unless the character really changes, he'll never sniff the top 10.

The fluster of emotion is fine. It's the worry that she'll help Sanji just because of that compliment, even if her family was mean to her. I trust that there will be more twists and turns though to make this more tolerable.
-
I had also expected the Vinsmoke bros to do decentish purely by riding the coattails of being related to Sanji, so I'm quite pleased to see that they didn't even make the top fifty. It makes up for the Japanese readers voting Marco so high last time.
-
Sorry for his fans, but I am glad that the Japanese audience does not have a thing for Pedro.
Also Jinbe is love, Jinbe is life. Glad that it is official.
-
Pedro's OK
Like, I can't see how you could be a fan of his but he's OK
-
I like Pedro too, but he is stealing Pekoms's spotlight.
-
Pedro's fight with Tamago was a highlight of the arc's midpoint. Unfortunately, he faded into the background worse than Carrot did.
-
Sad about Brook, but at least Jimbe is top tier! Even if it costs us Bartolomeo.
-
Is the first strawhat to ever fight a Yonko.
Has less than half of Robin's votes. -
Jinbe cracked the top 10? Nice! What the hell happened though, he was like 35 last time. He did some stuff this arc sure and was basically confirmed as future Strawhat, but…
Can't wait for the american poll to hit and have that random inclusion of awesome octopus. Real curious to see how they handle that entry.
-
Arrghhhh, Sanji was so close to the number 2 spot!
I'm glad he jumped back above Law though.
Also glad to see Doffy and Croco leading the villains even if they are in the late teens.
The biggest shocker for me is Reiju coming in at #14.
I mean…really?
I don't really see what she's done in her appearances to bring about that type of popular reaction.
-

It's not so much what she's done in her appearances rather than her appearance itself…
Or maybe crying and freeing Sanji really got people to think she's one of the best Straw Hat role-models lol.
-
@Count:

Yeah, I was thinking that but even going by that line of thinking…she looks much the same as x other Oda-designed female characters?

I can't decide which factor I find more unappealing.
-
Yeah, I was thinking that but even going by that line of thinking…she looks much the same as x other Oda-designed female characters?
That unfortunately never stopped anybody from drooling over his female designs. Let us mourn the loss of all the unique body proportions and facial features of the Amazon Lily women, whose aesthetic died before their time.
I can't decide which factor I find more unappealing.
I just take amusement in the fact that being attracted to Reiju isn't really that big a stretch away from being attracted to a cross dressing flamboyant Sanji. Not that she doesn't look attractive or that siblings can't look alike, but still.
-
What I want to know is why Roger shot up. He wasn't even in the top 100 last time, and now he's 38.
-
What I want to know is why Roger shot up. He wasn't even in the top 100 last time, and now he's 38.
Yeah, that is weird. Maybe it has to do with the Road Poneglyph reveal, Nekomamushi and Inurashi's backstory, Oden's death, and/or Roger stealing from Big Mom.
-
I guess Jinbe made it because of being at right places in right time. His badass attitude against BM tilted lots of votes.
-
Jinbe in the top 10. That's a crazy jump.
Bart throwing down to top 30. So, his gimmick only lasted for Dressrosa arc…
Why is Reiju so high up?! She's an okay character.
The shame is Brook being so low despite everything he has done this arc. Damn it.
Law went down. That's great.
Ace is never forgotten... -
Surprised Sanji is so close to zoro. Maybe it was his year, but so far it was the year of L, he has yet to show something great in his year, even more in terms of combat.
Maybe if this poll was made after this arc ended, then he would stand a better shot to suprass zoro.
I don't get it why crocodile is still the highest villain by far( he is good, but I prefer the yonkoud and admirals villain), if in the case of doflamingo you can blame it on dressrosa long recent arc.
Btw coby is not in the top 50? Good, maybe this convinced oda to drop him and make smoker luffy's marine rival.
-
The Japs never had much love for Garp did they?
-
Where's Gangster Gastino?
-
Katakuri being higher than Big Mom and Big Mom being nowhere near the top 50,speaks aout how badly Oda has treated her.
-
Where's Gangster Gastino?
Huh? Yeah, you're right. Maybe the deadline was over before his introduction? Otherwise the whole poll obviously got rigged.
-
I'm shocked, only two out of my three favorite characters are here. Vivi is here, Enel too, but where is Gastino?
-
@Joy:
Katakuri being higher than Big Mom and Big Mom being nowhere near the top 50,speaks aout how badly Oda has treated her.
Or speaks about the idiocy of preferring an extremely bland, stoic, personality-lacking character that simply represents what a 10 year old understands behind "cool" instead of taking a character whose appearance and backstory is interesting.
-
@Joy:
Katakuri being higher than Big Mom and Big Mom being nowhere near the top 50,speaks aout how badly Oda has treated her.
What proof is there that she's "nowhere near" 50th place? For all we know she could be 51st.
-
Over ten thousand votes more than last time, nice.
Law dropped a few spots, Zoro is still above Sanji and Jimbei made it into the top ten, I like it. -
Never liked Bartolomeo, loved Cabbage though so I'm glad he shot up far past him.
@FelRes:Really, you guys are doing this again? Pudding is joining the ranks of Bellamy and Rebecca as characters who receive ire from the fanbase despite having some of the most complex and well developed character arcs.
Except that Bellamy is actually an exceptional character/one of the best Oda's ever written who deserves to be top five unlike the other two.
Edit: Also glad that the Japanese fanbase continues to recognize that Nami is better than Robin unlike the English fanabse, even with all of their other flaws.
-
YEAH, my Hancock is still in the top 10!
-
@Joy:
Katakuri being higher than Big Mom and Big Mom being nowhere near the top 50,speaks aout how badly Oda has treated her.
Nope. Katakuri just has an appealing design.
Big Mom is quite monstrous, so she's not going to get any "pretty" votes. There's a reason Shirahoshi and Rebecca haven't budged from the Top 50.
-
Wow Jinbe came on 6th, awesome to see the japanese recognize the fantastic role he has had since he joined the series, all the cool scenes he gave us, he definetly isn't winning for any other reason (as in Law is cute I'll vote on him), still a lot of that kind of voting in the poll, but seems it was balanced by others that didn't vote that way.
Jinbe bros rejoice!
I feel Brook should be a bit higher, he has been awesome this arc.
As for Barto, same stuff as Jinbe, he was there due to what he did in the story, he isn't a cute boy/girl to stay up there, and not being part of an arc.
@S.C.:
Why does Japan like Perona so damn much?
Japan? you weren't were for nakamate wars? Perona had the most absurd fan theories to have her join the crew.
@Count:
I don't mind Pudding getting redeemed, but that's still a pretty big statement to make when her third eye discrimination is never hinted at or the fact that her turning point came from a random compliment made by an idiot.
She kept the eye hidden, I see that as an hint, and when someone gives an unexpected compliment you usually feel a bit surprised, when she was discriminated as a kid because of the eye and someone actually gives her a compliment she should be more surprised than just a normal compliment, if it was a turning point or not I still don't know, but I wouldn't mind it personally(I think it was since I believe she was foolling her siblings last chapter).
Edit: I see you had the same conversation with another person, no need to answer me and have basically the same conversation :D.
-
1. Luffy: 11,737 votes.
2. Zoro: 10,442 votes.
3. Sanji: 10,215 votes. We sure this isn't some forums power level values? Looks accurate I'd say.
Hip hip hooray for Jimbo! People were still in the denial phase last poll so its great that they wised up!
-
Nah, the "accurate" power levels are:
Zoro >= Luffy >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Sanji
