Great news.
Hopefully, WT will also return soon. I miss it even more than HxH.

He wasn't cruelly cancelled, but more a gentle cancelation. He was doing okish and the series reached a natural stopping point (as far I understand)

True but even with that in mind, it's not very usual for an author to have a new series ready by the very next serialization round.
-
I'm pretty sure U19 will be axed, and I'm rather disappointed. It wasn't a mind-blowing start really, but I was at least drawn in by the KND esque vibes & the libido concept (if only because it was the perfect word to choose, lol). Definitely thought it'd do better than the less interesting new 6. It, Dr. Stone & Robot x Laserbeam were the only 3 I actually wanted to see more of.
-
I just posted this in another thread and was pointed to this one, so here goes: I have no idea how the japanese have been ranking them, but U19, Harapeko no Marie and Poro's Diaries are awful, in my opinion. I don't know how the older series are in terms of popularity, since I mainly follow Viz's digital Jump and they only have the more popular ones (for the English-speaking audience, at least).
From what I've seen in just a few posts in this thread, it seems I'm more or less correct and 2 of these will likely bite the dust
By the way, I had no idea Gintama was so consistently low ranked. How long has this been going and how has it survived so long then? I haven't seen it up the sales charts either so…
-
Check the sales thread, gintama has been consistently selling 2million manga for most of its run.
-

That explains it. But I still find it weird how a manga that is at its strongest in a weekly format (in my opinion) has been pulled by its volume sales instead of its weekly ratings. Probably has a nice loyal fanbase that does not consist of the majority of weekly jump readers, I guess. Do we have an idea on when it'll end? I read almost a year ago that it would end in 2017, but so far haven't seen anything else.
-
The plot is all but done, I want a long epilogue arc because its been too long since the last "fun arc", but under WSJ logic its less than 2 volumes away of Its ending

I assume U19 will be the other axed series, or Poro?I thought those 2 or Isobee would get the axe this time. But it won't be long before they do, anyway. I actually liked Poro more than Spring Weapon or Hungry Marie, though.

@Kaizou:
Isobe isn't going to get axed.
How does it get such privilege? Is its tankoubon sale very good?
-
Its the "pet manga" of the magazine, its shorter than regular chapters and unranked in the polls, like Jaguar before it.
-

As Maxterdexter said, it is like Jaguar. Jump just wants to end the magazine with something funny at the end.

the manga industry will be in big trouble when one piece ends
-
@mario:
the manga industry will be in big trouble when one piece ends
No. It will not.
-
It will probably revert to it's original size, wich by any metric IS a loss.
Acording to Oricon sales, One Piece sales are shrinking, but manga from 2th to 10th keep their sales numbers kind of constant (as in, from 4th to 10th place the sales are the same year after year, shuffling the series around)
The issue is that One Piece is currently the oldest series in WSJ, and none of the current series seem to be able to last the 10 years that Oda seems to want to take for it to end, I'd be willing to guess that the only current series that will be still on the magazine by that point is HxH.
-
I think the end of One Piece may actually be very good for the manga industry. Might make all those One Piece fans, who were satisfied with what they got week by week, manga wise, to see out something new in Jump to replace the void. Might makeall other manga sales go up, actually.
Just baseless speculation :P
-
Yah, that is not what happened with dragon ball nor slam dunk.
-
Surely there will be a manga/couple of it taking up the mantle.
-
Again, see Dragon Ball/Slam Dunk. Yah, it could be like Naruto->MyHero Academia/Black Clover, but we have no guarantee, and there is no way to predict phenomenom as big as One Piece.
-
I don't expect something like OP's scale, even Naruto's scale success is quite unpredictable. But the industry has grown so much, particularly digitally and merchandise wises,so that reverting back to the 'original size' is not going to happen. Shueisha also, though late, did the right thing to go global with WSJ.One Piece ending will definitely slow down it's growth, but won't stop it's progress. Also if worst comes to worst,i expect them to milk OP even after it's conclusion, akin to what they did with Naruto. With that they will make adequate cushion to bear the sudden downfall.
-
What I don't think that you are taking in consideration is the average one piece fan's age. The fan that Oda originally pictured in his head while drawing is currently 30+ years old. The average person won't go and keep on buying WSJ to follow the latest Racing Manga, or the waterpollo manga, or the battle manga where they can only use their hair, or that weird accountants slice of life-harem manga. Most one piece fans are just that, One Piece fans, not manga fans.
-
I am betting on the kids/teenagers of that time and WSJ's growing popularity throughout the world to offset the lost readers(upto a certain extent).
-
Yah, the non paying population. That's where the money is at.
-

I made an excel file with the TOC and chapters from 1999. The first file "Grafici CAP" has the chapters' count and colors, lead CP and oneshot (those one from 2007), while "Grafici TOC" has the rankings.

My Hero Academia is getting another break? I hope Horikoshi's alright.
-
Oh yes, Gintama on top. Without counting back, I guess that was the chapter with Takasugi's return.
Same notion about Horikoshi though.
-
Nice to see Gintama up top! I still haven't caught up to the series but I really enjoy it when I have the time to read a few chapters in a row. Hope I can get to it before it ends though. U19 predictably over. Next stops, Poro and Marie. Let's see how good Shudan is. Not expecting much, though.
