Finally Zar, you took your time.
Love: Usopp as a whole is of my utmost likeness in a human being, he's my favorite Strawhat, there's been times when One Piece has become so tedious and dropped it to only take it again for this guy alone. He cracks the thought of your typical One Piece's Grand Line pirates, named by Oda to keep being part of the weak is a double edge sword that many times i've felt been cut by it, but still manages for the reader to have faith in his way to escape the situation… more than defeating the foe, which is why in a machism manga as this, Usopp usually you seen it fighting woman, an interesting turn that not other character may took.
Oda makes a wonderful work with Usopp as main character, because you can check with certain that he has a relationship with almost anyone of the crew, working as an axis-like, he just steals the show when one of the two main forces of Oda comes to play, comedy of course. When he's plotwise narrative lacks of important or surprising stuff, the man returns the his begginings, and then you can see how Usopp works fine; like at joke time with Luffy like when both were at Crocodile's prison or putting some sense on him, with Zoro when hiding behind him at a speech moment, with Nami playing the "scaredy cat" act, with Sanji as partners in crime, with Chopper at lying time, with Robin saving themselves, with Franky feeling that brotherhood and respect after their meeting and when mechanics stuff are involved and finally Brook to simply look astonished because of how creepy things he can do.
Any moment regarding Usopp, you can be sure that it would be worth to read because with him, Oda can bring his comedy touch... but Usopp is not just that tool, to my standarts he's the character that has been most developed of the crew, along with Zoro.
The Luffy Vs Usopp was a climax on his character, where you could find the difference on what makes a human being, "actions are what matters, not words", the comrade feeling that left the attack on Franky House was gone and only the remorse for the Merry situation was spotlighted, you could see the signs that backed Usopp's decision such as the Klabautermann and the go and return to Skypiea as mere examples of the hardships encountered but most than just that, the dream of being courageous is what personally could be seen there, not even Luffy's captaincy would be a rival to decide what's right or wrong regarding loved ones. That was the moment for me to understand what that weak man sobbing for being exactly weak regarding his crew, could do to defend a partner of that very one against anyone, simple words: incredible courage.
His flashback is closed... but just as how we could see Sanji's one from his moment of birth, we must see Yasopp's part to envelope it all. This is just one of the few things that Usopp does to makes better the plot, along with jokes of illness and those lies that end becoming truth, where every good reader of One Piece along with expecting Luffy becoming Pirate King or Zoro becoming the World's best swordman, you can wonder about how Usopp will end having meet those lies on the way. The man is constantly put at work, because we need to add how he's behind every Nami's battle or Sunny's new gadget along Franky's engineering.
Regarding his own battles, we can expect him to fight anyone, because logic and slyness are his weapons, the man uses plants... and personally ask why aren't devil fruits regarding plants too? For that, another point to Usopp; now Kenbunshoku Haki, a unique one has been gifted on to maybe his final distanced brawl with Van Auger or something maybe even more surprising.
Finally, Usopp is that character that makes you love it because all what surrounds him puts you in his place, his resilence is at one of the greatest level of the series yet still manages to find himself in the moment to give a proper speech about real pride as man rather than pirate and to encourage people to acknowledge Luffy. The pivotal piece inside the Strawhat crew, more than Luffy to my opinion, and the guy that can beat woman thanks to not use his body to perform it... and the most hairy member of the main cast for sure!!
Loathe: What i loathe about him, and not just his problem but Oda's, is those repetite moment of fear of his... i mean that we do all know that he's scared but has been on doomed island for two years, fought against gods, Shichibukais... cares for Luffy's dream which understands to be above all the strongest ones... but there you see it again like on his introduction, specifically on Punk Hazard was so tedious of him to be afraid of everything, that i had to drop it to finally remember some good points of him to take it again!! Some movements of the plot like on Sugar's battle were so forced that felt bad to read, yet the "God" situation turned to be better, the image is far from forgotten.
I loathe that Oda keeps taking that part of his pre-timeskip again and again, the man can defeat your average "100 million berry" pirate and hasn't got plenty of protagonism since Thriller Bark, i hope Wano is the occasion for him to buoy a little more.
Character: 5/5 The man inside a pirate tale, when the shit becomes boring, he makes it better, you can feel that you're on his shoes sometimes, the perfect score.
Design: 5/5 Perfect abs! you can think he's strong, yeah... but no, he's weak and yells a lot, but that's why the nose is there, to make you look at it and forget his big mouth.
