Funny enough, the previous grand prix was won by Japanese skater,Yuzuru Hanyu whom many speculate that Yuri is based on.
Evgenia Medvedeva, the female grand prix champion, is a huge fans of this show.

Yuri on ice episode 9
! The dog is safe. That is the most important thing. Also both Yuri make it through,no suprise. I guess they are setting up Out Yuri to be the underdog as he barely make it through.
! Korean guy- Poor guy. He was so irrelevant throughout this whole event.lol
Czech republic guy- He actually make it through.lol
JJ- He was the strongest competitor after all. He's the king.
Sis-con guy- I'm glad that the show address the issue of him being too attached to his sister. I never like the sis-con trope. I always find it creepy & most author tend to treat it as a GOOD thing to be obsessing over your younger sister. I like that Sala stand up to him and told him exactly that. Of course they still care & love for each other but now it's more healtier since he's letting go of the overattachment. I like that at the end, Sala still stick to her conviction. Also, his performance was a nod to the opening theme.
The show didn't even have to address this issue. They were just minor characters but the show took the time to flesh them out more. If they had remain as the sis con guy & cute younger sister, I wouldn't even notice. -
People don't read Kubo Mitsurou's manga and then they are surprised to see Yuri!!! On Ice.
Debauchery, manning up and ouendan are the three pillars that carry the creative career of this unrivaled woman.

Wait….There's a manga of Yuri on Ice? Or does the creator tend to write vaguely BL stuff?

No, surprisingly there are no manga adaptations or spinoffs of Yuri!!! On Ice, at least as of yet. And no, the romances Kubo Mitsurou has written are straight in their majority.
It is more about her mindset. Progressive is probably a wrong word here, but she is a pretty straightforward and openminded author. If the readers ever finds asking themselves "will she go there", the answer is most usually a resounding "yes". This is why she is a unique artist, and also why episode 10 (which launches on Crunchyroll in ten minutes) is just par for the course in a work of her.

Huh. I'm kind of curious now. Any particular titles?

I think her most famous work is Again ! (Completed in japan but not fully translated)
In french you also have Shinjuku Fever (which 3 last volumes funilly are on my nightstand) -

Kubo Mitsurou is best known for Moteki since it was adapted to a live action movie, but the manga sadly isn't translated until the end yet. It's a story of a good for nothing almost 30 year old guy suddenly getting getting attention from the girl of his past. 3.7.7 Byooshi!! is about a good for nothing student getting abandoned in Tokyo's red light district; this one is completely translated. Again!! tells a story about - you can guess - good for nothing student getting a chance to man up and redo his high school life; it is her latest work, it is being transalted at the moment with only two volumes left until the end (it also won me the best signature award in 2014 but that is beside the point). There is also her Tokkyuu!! manga about a coastal lifeguards, but it's neither written by her nor translated beyond 2 volume out of 20.
As you can see, the premises are pretty simple, but the presentation and the characters are really special, so I feel that all her manga are at least worth a read if not more than one.
-
Ohh! I was in the middle of reading Again!! But I lost track of it. I really liked that one.
-
Nice. Then you know what to expect of her.

Indeed. Now I need to find Again to catch up.

This week episode of Yuri on ice is both hilarious & heartwarming at the same time. The ending credit had me cracking for quite a while. I guess is canon now.
-
Omg. That ending. I'm amazed Chris and Yuri weren't banned or suspended for that. This episode was amazing.
-
The guests were probably enjoying it especially the girls. Chris probably wasn't even drunk. I'm still wondering why there was a pole there.XD
! It also makes Yuri complaining about not being able to show his ero more hilarious.
And the fact that he asked Victor to be his coach but he didn't remember it.lol -
I'm slightly surprised that the funimation dub gave Victor a nootable Russian accent. I don't entirely dislike it. Yuri's voice on the other hand…I'd need to hear more I think.

Drifters EP.10:
! Goddamnit Drifters! The more you focuses on Toyo the more concerned I have with Naoshi and Scipio. Don't you dare kill Butch before he rescue those slowpokes. At least Hannibal is okay for now. And will that gun Butch gave Nobunaga will even serve a purpose?
-
Yeah, still only watching Yuri!!! On Ice. It's pretty much The Best Thing Ever at this point, though.
-
You could see how much of the budget was allocated to Haikyuu's final episode. It looked absolutely marvelous at times.
The only question I'm dying to see answered is when the next season will be announced. Judging from the little sneak peak I allowed myself from the manga, it will be great once again.
-
Are they skipping the neko match in Haikyuu? I may be misremembering but I thought the match happened before the last little bit.

According to the manga, it should be happening next in the anime. The guys were talking about it, what with Hinata worrying about Kenma meeting him at the Nationals. I do understand however that the animation team opted against including it in the current season. It makes for great opening material in the inevitable sequel.
-
I woildn't put too much hope in a season 4 coming soon. The manga needs to cover a lot more as they'veliterally only just started their first match at nationals
-
Just watched the first episode of Yuri on Ice since it keeps getting talked about everywhere.
Geez, how much money did they throw at the animation?
And its not even an adaptation or anything!

It's like this year's Free! Except the story is overall better.

I love that real figure skatets are so into the show. Also her sailor moon routine was awesome.
-
Yeah, I mentioned that in the last page.Evgenia is like the biggest fan of YOI. Even the director acknowledged her. She also won the Grand Prix this year too.
! Let's end this. The fandom dies.lol
I like how supportive JJ's fiance was despite him failing badly. -

For some reason I thought this week was going to be the final episode. Is it a 12 episode run? I really wish it could have been a longer series. At least 24.
-
Oh hey, Kabaneri Of The Iron Fortress got a season 2 in 2018.
Huh, looks like there's Attack On Titan and Berserk in spring. That's my dark fantasy fix right there. Spring also has My Hero Academia season 2.

Yuri!!! on Ice:
! Season 2 confirmed!
! I've gotten really attached to these characters in such a short amount of time, and I really enjoyed how this season ended. I was expecting a bigger climax, assuming this was gonna be a 1 cour series, but I really like how this turned out. Yuri's conflict about leaving to let Victor go back to skating, Yurio pushing himself even further to keep Yuri on the stage (that monologue was great), and Victor choosing to both return and stay on as Yuri's coach. There's some strong emotional hooks and a pretty great setup for S2.
! I'm also happy with Yurio winning gold because I think he really deserved it. Both of his skate segments became real highlights to me (jesus the Agape skate is beautiful to watch). Props to the animators on that, as well as all of the other skate segments. I mean even with the quality drop on some of them in the middle episodes, the fact that they were doing 5-6 skate scenes in the average episode is really goddamn impressive.
! Overall, a really damn good show, and well worth spending the season on. I'm actually excited for season 2, and to see where the story goes from here. I definitely feel like there's a lot left to cover, and I'm hoping to see things like regular Victor skates, too. I wonder if any of the other skaters that didn't make the grand prix will step it up? There's a lot left to look forward to! -
Honestly, I felt kinda unsatisfied and let down with the last episode of Yuri on ice. I will rewatch it to see if I change my mind. Overall, it's still a great series.
! I have nothing against Yurio winning. I actually expected him to win and I'm happy that he did.
But I'm not a fan of Yuri's indecision and how he got overshadowed by Yurio. While Yurio is also the main character, we have veen following Yuri since the beginning. I wish there was more focus and emphasize on Yuri beating Victor's world record. It was treated as a side dish to Yurio winning the gold.
Yuri being indecisive is part of his character so I can't fault him that much. But I didn't really like how the coach thing was handled and their relationship being left open to interpretation. (Yes, I'm aware of the ending sequence with them skating to "Stay by me"). I understand that Japan is kinda homophobic so I guess this is the best the director can do. Btw, I know they are together.
On a positive note, there is season 2 next year! -
Yuri on Ice
! I have so many emotions about this ending. But I feel overall good about it now that a season 2 is confirmed. So Yurio winning this time as an additional motivator for Yuri works. And it was such a narrow loss that it may as well have been a tie.
! That duo skate in the end credits. Oh. My. God.So many warm fuzzies.
I got Yurio lol.

Well, that's it for fall for me and that's it for 2016 anime.
Yeah, Yuri!!! On Ice is definitely anime of the year for me. There's a lot of solid stuff, but none of them were "great" to me besides this one. I'm happy I gave it a chance despite it being sports anime, which isn't generally really my thing. The animation is great (most of the time), the music's great, it's a great romance - anime couples usually don't even get to the kiss part and if they do, it's at the end. That isn't even all that important, actually, it's important that it's a really well written romance - showing them learn about each other while struggling with their own flaws and showing different facets of their relationship.
I see people saying it's the "no homo" ending, but uh, did people forget they got engaged two episodes ago? Yuri also moved to Russia at the end. Because a friend totally offers to kiss the other and gives them an engagement ring. Would've been wonderful if it would've been even more obvious, but I don't think it's "no homo" at all.
In it's basics, though, the story was about someone growing confident in themselves and passionate people doing something they love, making it very infectious in it's expression of love.
Looking back a bunch of the skaters felt like afterthoughts and Yurio and Viktor didn't get much of their backgrounds explored compared to Yuri, but that's all for season 2! (Hell yeah! What else could it be?)Other highlights from 2016: Space Patrol Luluco, Thunderbolt Fantasy, Sweetness and Lightning, Flying Witch for top 5.
Rest of top 10: Kabaneri Of The Iron Fortress, Erased, Mob Psycho 100, My Hero Academia and Osomatsu-san.

Catching up on some shows now that the holiday craziness is behind us. The latest episode of Metal Gear Gundam really bringing that Christmas spirit:
! The fight between the Barbatos and the Hashmal was awesome, it had an animal fierceness to it that I haven't seen in a Gundam show before, but that "damn this is awesome!" feeling was very quickly replaced by "damn this is going to fuck him up pretty badly, isn't it?" and sure enough… The entire last half of the episode was pretty messed up really, with both Orga's and Mikazuchi's self-destructive tendencies on full display, and even the brief moments of levity present were kind of black. Like, while Hush becoming Mikazuchi's #1 fanboy/gopher instead of Shinn 2.0 and having to carry him around like a sack of potatoes is funny at first, can't someone grab a wheelchair or something for the poor guy? He may not seem to mind the prospect of becoming a vegetable, but you guys could t least let him keep some modicum of comfort and dignity! Also, of course, Atra asking Kudelia to get knocked up by our self-destructive, paraplegic hero is a terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible idea!
! Oh, and bring back the Grimgerde from the first season. The Helmgage Reincar or whatever it's called sucks. -
Spring's getting better by the minute. Turns out Rage Of Bahamut's second season is airing in spring and it's two cours. The first season was super entertaining and looked great to me - the second trailer looks pretty great.
So that's what, now? Attack On Titan, My Hero Academia and Rage Of Bahamut for spring (also Berserk but despite me liking it, it still looked like crap)? The first two having some of their best arcs, too.

Great! Thanks for sharing the news Kizuchan. I've been waiting so long for Favaro's return :D
