To unlock mission 45 do I have to do all the [Extreme] and whatever missions? Also apparently I have to have mother base fully upgraded as well.
Metal Gear Solid V: Survive is some real far waters exploitation

! Nah all you gotta do is max your bond with Quiet and do Mission 43.
! Also can't have the butterfly emblem as part of your custom emblem. -

You don't have to have the base fully upgraded but R&D has to be at a certain level since you'll be using missile launchers and those'll need to be upgraded as high as possible along with the Intel Unit since you can unlock the ability to make Sandstorm's occur manually which will help somewhat with completing the mission though at the cost of automatically dropping your mission rating. But make sure you setup everything properly before starting the mission since you can't return to the ACC unless you exploit a trick in the game.
-
I have 100% bond with Quiet and finished mission 43 and it's still not in the mission list.
GVR: Is that required to unlock the mission or just something that will help later in the game?

Upgrading the Intel unit isn't mandatory but it'll help since Mission 45 feels like it wasn't properly playtested.
-
@Cyan:
Have you done all the yellow side ops?
Yes.
! I've gotten the tapes of them thinking Huey put the beta wave emitters in the xray scanners but he hasn't been exiled yet and I still have Quiet. It shouldn't be the taking Quiet on certain missions thing because that was fixed quite a while ago.
-

I believe
! Huey being exiled is one of the necessary requisites for unlocking the Side Op that triggers Mission 45.
-
Yeah I know that I was just wanting to know how to do that.
In any case I have both 45 and 46 right now I think. I played 45 for hours and still didn't beat it. I do think I'm really underleveled in pretty much every respect so that might be it. I have I think a level 3 Grom (I have the Honey Bee but it's a lot weaker) and don't even have any mines, though I started researching them. Would help if Quiet wouldn't stand out in the open getting shot by tanks.
What level in support do you have to be to call in air strikes? I might just stick with the A (or probably below).
-

It's not your fault, someone decided that all the armored units should be able to suddenly withstand multiple misled shots while being able to one shot you or softing you up for a good old fashioned cherry tap.

Wish I could tell you exactly hell no one who's played the game and putting up tips and guides apparently knows when Bombardment becomes available from the Support Unit.
-
I remember getting the pop up saying it was available but I couldn't figure out how to use it if I had it. Not like I have much reason not to just shove everyone into support for that mission so I could bombard everyone.
I'm kind of mad because I was hoping I could finish the game today.
-
The CGM (multi-lock-on rocket launcher) helps immensely. Quiet will call in supplies if you run out of ammo.
-
So on the same menu you can call in supply drops you can call in air strikes. I'll just do that for right now and hope I can pass it. The tank(s) are the worst part, not really the troop carrier things. So how many enemies are there? After the checkpoint there's that rocket launcher thing, 4 BTUs I think, one tank, and a helicopter. Is that it? I hope so.
Edit: Also they apparently cost a decent amount of GMP but I don't really care since I've been recently needing to spend some anyway since I was hitting the 5 million GMP cap. I don't know why they thought that cap was a good idea. I think I have close to 4 million right now, which should be plenty.

Yeah. I was thinking initially it might have been an option on the map where you can scroll through various options. But I watched a video and you have to do it from the far right menu.

I actually forgot what it was under myself the consequence of not playing the game for a week and using it sparingly I suppose.

Used it 3 times and beat it. Now onto the "real" ending.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Okay, finished both endings now. My thoughts:
! Felt the ending could have been handled better. I was about to come on here and ask a bunch of questions but all (or at least all I can think of at the moment) were answered by the last conversation between Miller and Ocelot. The final mission could have just been a cutscene too rather than having you replay the opening sequence. Also what was with Paz showing up? It was in the preview for chapter 2 but it never happened to me.
! It's also funny that everyone correctly guessed how the story would play out, with you not playing as Big Boss, shortly after it was announced. They did a good job of using footage from the entire game in trailers without people being able to guess where in the game the footage was from too.
! Just thought of something though. Ocelot tells the real Big Boss to change his face but he looks like he should in MG1, 2, and 4. Is this just a retcon or something? Probably nobody can answer this, just something I thought about.Overall excellent game. Any issues I have with the ending (even though it did a good job of wrapping up the remaining holes between 3/PW and MG1) can be excused by the gameplay portion being pulled off flawlessly and it actually being a game that's well worth $60. I finished the game after 68 hours. And I'm not even to 50% completion. Never thought I'd sink so much time into a Metal Gear game. Great way to end the series I think. Now we just wait to see what kinds of abominations Konami shits out in the series from now on if they're going to do that. Or if it'll just be pachinko machines.
I feel sorry for Silent Hill fans though. MGS got a great send off game and SH's got cancelled and there hasn't been anything good in the series for quite some time.
Edit: Also
! Where did the whole "Les Enfents Terribles is cloning Big Boss" thing come into the story in V? I remember just suddenly getting some tapes about them testing Eli's DNA to see if he's related to Big Boss/is a clone of him but I don't remember anything about it leading up to that. They mentioned the project a couple times (and we know what it is from earlier games) but I don't ever remember them saying it was cloning Big Boss in the game.
-
! Also what was with Paz showing up? It was in the preview for chapter 2 but it never happened to me.
! You have go inside of a room located in the medical area of mother base to trigger it.
-

It's on the third floor with a blue light over it, and you present photos to her that you obtain from wandering mother base soldiers
! As for Ocelot's remark, I think that was a bit of a joke given that his resemblance to your avatar isn't too great, but meh, he probably fixes up the passport -
40 min away from my nuke finally being finished! And I have like 300k heroism so I won't get the horns even if I lose 50k, which is kind of a shame but alright.
-
@Purple:

! Ocelot: Alright, if you won't get plastic surgery, just change your voice actor again. The guy you were using in the 70s is too iconic so you'll easily be recognized as Mercenary Hitler, but the guy who voiced The Fury is free.
-
@Purple:
Yes, considering
! The ending and cut content
but I mean post-release fuckery
There isn't any cut-content. Mission 51 is literally a rehash of mission 50 and cheapens what the game has already done with Eli and Big Boss's relationship.

Which is a shame since some of missions in TPP shows that Kojima can pull off great horror. At least we are (hopefully) getting Alison Road.

.Mission 51 is a rehash of Mission 50 Which itself is a harder version rehash of Mission 31?
Which I doubt ruins the relationship of those two characters since their relationship never really evolved beyond one-sided antagonism on Eli's part. Also I wouldn't say the game had no cut content with regards to Mission 51 cause I seriously doubt
! Kojima intended to have Eli and Boy Who May or May Not be Psycho Mantis leave Mother Base in possession of both Sahelanthropus and the last strain of the English vocal cord parasite.
That would lead to an awfully big plot hole if not addressed.
-
Eli grows up to be a massive idiot, it's not hard to come to the conclusion that he just got abandoned because everyone got annoyed with him all "INFERIOR GEEEEEENEEEEES" constantly.
-

! This game gives us all the context and characterization of Eli for being a believable character that leads to him growing up to be the kind of person that Liquid is in shadow moses, as well as believably furious that Solid Snake stole his chance to show up Big Boss and then rub it in the mans face.
! The character work in this game is very very subtle and requires players to read between the lines. Look at some of stuff the game shows about Eli through gameplay, visuals and interactions. Eli is a incredibly talented soldier at a young age, and manages to break free of Cipher and go completely off the radar (something not even Big Boss was successfully able to do), which feeds his severe anti-authority issues. He wants to do his own thing but his entire world has prevented that. He manages to go off to Africa and form his own unit, take his own place in the world, all through his own ability, and he wants recognition for that.
! Venom comes in, pushes his soldiers over, and beats him down in an effortless fight and drags him back kicking and screaming, completely undermining Eli's hard-won victories, and then places him and his unit under Diamond Dogs for Venom's own purposes - only to proceed to treat Eli like any other soldier. This is exactly the thing Eli escaped, and worse it's the exact thing Zero has been trying to do with Big Boss. Eli bristles at this and then makes a move to escape. The details of what happens after he leaves aren't particularly relevant to his story or his characterization. What we are shown is someone who has taken pride in their achievements and then been completely humiliated, and instead of taking time for reflection about how to go about getting what he wants within the grander structures of power, doubles down on rebellion and independence. As a set-up for the Liquid we know, that characterization is complete, even though it happens between the lines.
! Mission 51 completely boils this Eli/Venom complexity to mere "Venom shot Eli so he hates him". There is a reason why it's in collector's and says 30% complete meaning that it was abandoned early in the development for creative reasons. I simply find it very weird how the game's ending has some of the scenes from 2013 trailer while this was simply "cut". It's as much of a cut-content as the cut water-section in MGS2.
! As for the metal gear, it doesn't work and it's in the hands of kids with no tech and nobody knows where it is while it rots. Mission 51 creates more plot-holes then actually fill it.
! I can't say anything about parasite since both endings seems to imply that it was always meant to be left ambiguous. Though i personally think that last parasite is the creation of Fox-die virus in MGS1. Listen to Zero's and Skull Face's recording where Zero mentions that Cipher is was doing research on parasite but abandoned it and started human-genome dna stuff. -
I don't know about you but the first fight against Eli was far from effortless for me. Not that it was me dying and stuff but it was tedious to have to follow him around to hit him because he was jumping all over the place while his soldiers were shooting at me.
-
I trashed him pretty handily myself. But now I just take him out from across the map! xD

Funny, I never even got that interpretation. I figured it was the whole "FUCK YOU FOR RUINING EVERYTHING ABOUT MY LIFE." Eli sure didn't seem all that pissed that Venom shot him more than it was just getting all the "INFERIOR
recessiveGENES". But the fact that this was supposed to be the closing thread to Eli and Mantis' story here as well as a few extras found (the nuclear disarmament cutscene, a title card for Chapter 3) strongly indicates that there's a good chunk of stuff that didn't make it into the end product.! As for the metal gear, it doesn't work and it's in the hands of kids with no tech and nobody knows where it is while it rots. Mission 51 creates more plot-holes then actually fill it.

Huey fix up Sahelanthropus prior to the kids leaving and also told them how to use it. Also,Mission 51 is supposed to be part infiltration of the island and then actually fighting Sahelanthropus and then ridding the world of the English-speaking strain.
! And the parasite can't be part of the creation of FOXDIE as directly as you're thinking. FOXDIE was created through nanomachine tech and was developed by the Patriots who, if they were to be following through with Ocelot's logic about why Cipher would never create an english strain, would definitely not hold onto that english strain. At least in Mission 51, Eli contaminates the island with it and then Diamond Dogs napalms the hell out of the island to wipe it out of existence, closing that loop.
! All in all, the idea that you had a fully operational metal gear patched up by Huey that can only be piloted by kids as well as a huge social structure destroyer in the hands of a guy who completely resents the world built by Cipher being kept
! So yeah the characterization is more subtle than the projectile vomiting of information we normally get from Kojima games, sure, with Eli basically being a huge dick because of an inferiority complex and having his fate tied down to some dude, but there's definitely a missing thread to his story -

! It's even out and out said that they had ditched the parasites the moment Para-Medic got fixated on genes instead of language.
! Even Zero says that the parasites were more a proof of concept as opposed to something that would actually get used. Language is fickle and can change at the drop of a hat, genetics is set in stone. -

People are using Eli being pissed about Big Boss shooting him as a way to argue the importance of mission 51. It's not what the game is saying but most people haven't caught the subtle characterization this game presents for Eli and that's why they think mission 51 is important.
Nuke cutscene is a part of chapter 2 which serves as an epilogue. And it's achievable in the game but people don't know how.
Chapter 3 title card is still up in the air. If it was cut then why would they simply leave it? It would have taken them less than 1 min to simply remove it. It really doesn't make sense.
Along with chapter 3 being named "peace" with players data-mining chapter 3 and chasing after it and chapter 2 being a repetitive war-routine in a thematic sense just feels intentional.
I agree that lots of stuff didn't make it into the game but i think it was due to creative decisions not Konami just releasing the game. I think it was simply released like it was always meant to.
MGS2 had lots of stuff that didn't make it into the game. Hell MGS3 was at first supposed to be an open-world game but the final product wasn't even close to that.
! Also MGS2,just like V, ended with Liquid taking the Metal Gear never to be seen again. And when Kojima was creating MGS2, he intended it to be his final game in the series. And just like MGS2, V is open-ended by choice and is meant to be interpreted in a different way.! Ah yes that is true.
Aside from Psycho mantis using magic to remove the strain, mission 51 doesn't resolve anything especially with DD taking the metal gear. In the original ending Metal Gear is completely off the map and world stage while in mission 51 it's suddenly found by XOF or DD and creates more loose ends. -

And just like MGS2, V is open-ended by choice and is meant to be interpreted in a different way.! While true that Kojima intended for MGS2 to be the last Metal Gear Solid, his intention was more for it to be the last one he'd direct and work on, with a new team taking the helm to produce more afterwards: http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/06/09/kojima-mgs2-was-meant-to-be-my-last-metal-gear (apologies about the IGN link). Seems like that's been the case for every Metal Gear game where the team tries to take it on, but to insufficient standards. I think V was supposed to be a game about the Boss, but the new team couldn't figure out how to do it. And regardless of it being the "final" metal gear, we know what happened afterward with RAY and the conclusion of all those loose ends (even if I really really dislike how everything was conveniently tied together as well as FOXALIVE being a thing in MGS4). Even taking MGS2 as a standalone finale, Liquid gets away with a metal gear that, well, at least doesn't have nuclear capabilities.
! And yes, while MGS3 had a lot of ambitious stuff aimed for it and games generally will have different visions compared to the final product, completely cutting out the resolution to one of the arcs in the games when we likely will not see another MGS game aside from pachislot such that Liquid just… fucks off with a superweapon and a breaker of society without doing anything with them and knowing what comes in the future is pretty lacking. So while the game certainly deviates from its earlier demos, such as D-Dog's mini-backstory in one of the demos, the fact that all the voice work was done with a significant amount of cutscene work done to resolve the storyline is compelling as evidence that it was cut. At least with the Chapter 3 image, at least the rest of the assets don't appear to be around to say whether or not they even started work on it only for it to be axed.
! So yeah, Liquid getting shot by Venom being his rationale for hating him? lolno, but crazed psychopathic kid left alone with some superweapons in a story that won't be getting resolved under Konami's direction? ehhhhh! Ah yes that is true.
Aside from Psycho mantis using magic to remove the strain, mission 51 doesn't resolve anything especially with DD taking the metal gear. In the original ending Metal Gear is completely off the map and world stage while in mission 51 it's suddenly found by XOF or DD and creates more loose ends.! The rationale in Mission 51 was that the kids basically left the helicopter pilot because Eli felt like he wanted to settle things with Big Boss with his shiny new toy, and XOF manages to find it because of local rumors of a floating giant in the sky, which tbh makes sense moreso than Liquid taking a nuclear bipedal war machine far ahead of its time and then just abandon it without doing anything with it. At least with DD taking Sahelanthropus, we can assume that, based on Venom's rationale for keeping it in the first place as "leaving Diamond Dog's mark on the world" and without any intention of actually using it, that he kept it basically as a trophy again, but this time without Huey to dick around with it.

! As the children flew away, one of them (probably named Piggy because lol there was actually a fucking kid named Ralph) asks Eli why he hates Uncle One-Eye, Unclet Ocelot, Uncle CRAZY MCDONALDS, and Aunt Boobsniper.
! Eli explains how FATHER had the gall to have INFERIOR RECESSIVE GENES (ignore that Eli probably got his hair from EVA) that he maliciously passed on to Eli while his brother Dave got all the GOOD SUPERIOR DOMINANT GENES.
! The other children stare for a minute, and then abandon Eli in Iraq and dump Sahelanthropus on Saddam Hussein's palace. They take the helicopters to Liberia, where they are taken in by a jolly American named George Sears. -

! Wellll considering MGS1 is all about "dominant" and "recessive" genes which is completely not how you use those terms in genetics, shucks why not say he got his hair from the surrogate. Sure as shit ain't too bad given that Liquid and Snake really don't look all that alike for being modified clones of each other

Wait, whats the deal here
http://www.destructoid.com/konami-grounded-hideo-kojima-324208.phtml
As far as I know, Kojima had nothing to do with MGSV so whats the big deal??? I mean, if he had anything to do with the game, it'd say so on the box right!!?!?!?!!!!
-
Christ, they might as well just leave a flaming bag of dog crap on his doorstep.
-
Konami really fucked up BIG this time. Good on Geoff for calling out Konami for their bullshit publicly.
-
Good luck Kojima.

Metal Gear Online is now available on the PC version of MGSV.
http://gematsu.com/2016/01/metal-gear-online-pc-now-available
-
The first post-Kojima Metal Gear game was announced.
It honestly seems like someone at Konami wanted to make a zombie apocalypse game, but they didn't think that would sell on its own so they slapped the Metal Gear name on there and threw in a cutscene at the beginning to tie it in.
-
Umbrella cor…I mean mgs multiplayer zombie cash in. You know it will be as heavy on microtransactions as the whole fob shit was in V, if not even more. Thankfully its a spin off and doesnt continue the story and just messes it up more than V already did.
-
Where the fuck is my game about the Boss.

Where the fuck is my game about the Boss.
Evidently "intriguing expansion of one of the franchise's most legendary characters" got beat out by "random soldier gets sucked into a portal to an alternate zombie dimension for a generic zombie apocalypse shooter"

All the soldiers in SurviVal are the All E Rank losers in Peace Walker you assigned to merc jobs and hoped they died.

On the one hand at least right now they're not trying to add onto the story in any way. But this still reeks of cash grab just making an unrelated game and slapping the name on it.

This is totally a cash grab and I hope ppl wont buy it in droves and reward konami.

It is even sadder if you think about the actual support for mgo3. xD Konami barely supported it. Pretty sure its pretty dead by now.

My god… they turned an epic stealth series into Resident Gear Solid 6... WHYYYYYYYYYY?!
