Alolan Raichu looks…....weird
-
i believe the MC moves to Alola at the beginning of the game.
I guess it'll be a good way to highlight the different forms in-game, if they do say something to highlight it.
-
Ok, seeing it in game, Alola Raichu is kinda cute. Floating (with psychic powers?) while surfing in his tail is also pretty unique. I wonder if they will reintroduce this guy in the anime (surfer Pikachu, blue eyes…).
Anyway, we already know Pichu and Pikachu stay the same in Alola, meaning Raichu is the only in this evolutionary line to get an Alola form. This solidifies even further my impression the Region forms are not here to offer another version of the old monsters, but to completely replace the old ones. If that was not the case, you can be sure Pikachu and the starters would be the first to get region forms (in every region we go from now on). This also means they probably will not hold back about making these new forms clearly superior compared to the old ones.
I just hope when the time comes, I look at A!Buterfree and think "ok, this is the same Butterfree I love, but much better and completely revamped!" instead of "this is a completely different pokémon trying to pass as the same Butterfree and put the last nail on its coffin" -
! All these leaks… I'm being overloaded right now, between the Alolan Raichu, Marowak and Meowth, Pyukumuku and Wishiwashi, I can't choose which one I'm excited for the most!
-
Hate the new Raichu. Looks like someone took the old one and covered it in tinted plastic wrap. Totally awful.
-
lol are those Skull grunts wearing Air Force Ones? Alola Raichi kinda looks like it was crossbred with an Audino. Have we ever had an Electric/Psychic dual-type before?

As far as my knowledge goes, nope.
-
! The only mistake they did was neglecting him since gen 1, Raichu is freaking adorable in his normal forme, anyway I love that it's getting some attention even though I wanted a mega.
! Mushroom pokemon confirmed, one more point to the chinese leaker.
! Also at this point it seems more and more obvious that only Kanto pokemon are getting Alolan formes.
! Nintendo seriously needs more security in their website, last month we got all those pokemon revealed before the presentation, and now it happens again.! Ya know, I should explain myself. Considering how the anime made a big deal about Pikachu not evolving back in the day, I assume that their marketing team doesn't like the design of Raichu. I actually like it okay, but this new form looks like it's meant to be cuter then Pikachu. I'm suspicious of their intentions with this design.
! By the way, this dark Meowth…I fail to see the point when Purrloin already exists. Do we need another dark-type cat? I wonder what it's evolved form looks like?
! Also, between that and the new Meowth, the anime episodes write themselves. I can just see this dark type Meowth taunting the Team Rocket Meowth. I haven't watched it in years though. Last one I saw was a scene in B&W where Ash needs his Pokedex to figure out what a Koffing was...it was weird man. -
Oh huh, how bout that. I never came across it in either Y or AS.
Yeah, the terrain moves got very, very little use. You might have seen electric terrain in a gym, and then proceeded to use the turn they spent setting up killing them. In theory it boosted electric attacks 50% and prevented things from falling asleep…. but generally that turn of setup just got them killed because the gym leaders don't have large enough team to make use of it.
Grass terrain healed things and boosted grass moves. They were basically trying to be weather moves but they weren't useful enough (unless you had an entire team dedicated to a theme), even though the attack boost was very good. Also didn't help that only a handful of things could use it, and they learned it at either a super high level (around 65-70) or from move tutor.
However, something getting a speed boost on top of it boosting the attack? THAT is going to wreck some things.
-
Also, Tapu Koko's ability casts electric terrain when it enters the battlefield, so now you can place this condition in a fight without wasting a turn. If they give more pokémon abilities related to terrains, they will probably become as popular as weather conditions (they are pretty much the same).
From Alola Sandshrew and Vulpix lines, it seems they are also trying to make more pokémon benefit from hail to make it more common. I like what GF is doing. -
Yeah I looked it up and something like 8 Pokemon total could learn Electric Terrain. Real useful.
Anyway, efforts to expand and rebalance field effects are a pretty good idea. We might not be far off from Weather Wars Part 2.
-
I wouldn't call Snow Cloak a real sign heralding a new age of Hail being useful. Particularly the whole deal where evasion/accuracy shenanigans are not really allowed in competitive environments.
Even practically with Ice being so frail and usually slower than opponents you want to hit the opponent as fast as possible since at best you can survive one attack from them. Wasting a turn to set up a weather effect that gives you evasion while probably hurting the rest of your team is a tremendous waste of time and chances are you'll need to switch out to survive or hope the opponent misses next turn.
In fact, the whole concept of there being a speed-boosting effect to electric terrain before there is one for hail kinda pisses me off. It's another fuck you to ice pokemon.

I mean I guess it's exciting to make Raichu cool again but I hate it D:
-
So it looks like the leaks are legit and Alolan Raichu is for real.
Takes a deep breath AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH IT'S SO FRIGGIN' CUTE I'M TOTALLY USING IT.
I'm definitely teaching it Psyshock, assuming that's still a TM in Sun/Moon. Also, considering the whole surfer motif, it had better be able to learn Surf one way or another.
-
I haven't been this excited for Pokemon in so many years, not even when I got X was I so pumped! Sad this is my 3DS is very old and doesn't really work.

Oh wow! It's pretty cheap, the problem is I have such little money right now. God dammit!
Thanks for the info, though. :)
-
I guess it'll be a good way to highlight the different forms in-game, if they do say something to highlight it.
All the new formes got explanations, I think we can probably capture both of some of them in the region, like Vulpixes that didn't migrate, Mewoths that weren't breed by the royal family. etc.
-
My guess would be that non-alolan forms are not found in-game and would require trading. That way they're still easy to get if people have Pokemon Bank or if the trading with Pokemon Go is indeed allowed.
-
If its with pokemon go, that reduces the chance of non kanto alola forms.
-
I hope the clothing options for our trainers will be as awesome as Team Skull's.
(They won't be.)! Like Crossword said, it looks like someone took a bucket of paint to an Audino and then stuck a Raichu tail on it. It's cool that Pikachu's not the one getting the new form (that we know of), but damn Raichu's new form is ugly. That said, I do like how its tail now functions as a surfboard. Also, it'd be awesome if Hitmonlee got an Alola form, but I know better than to get my hopes up for such a long shot.

Was about to post the same video. ^^
I like the introduction of the villain team, "furyo" team. The music is cool too. -

It would be nicer if we got a new hitmon. What martial arts are left to explore?
Machamp and probably bewear and poliwrarh is wrestling
Hitmonchan is boxing
Hitmonlee is tae kwon do
Hitmontop is capoeira
Hariyama and probably emboar is sumo
Throh is judo
The other one is karate
Mineshao is some kung fu
Lucario is hermit turtle school
Galade is some krav mag with knifes
Blaziken and mega lopuny is kickboxing
Infernape is monkey kung fu
Pangoro and scrafty is Japanese delinquent styles, boss and punk
Primeape is street fighting
The musketeers
Chesanaugth a Knight
Medichamp some yoga mystic warrior
Heracross a fighting beetle as in the inspiration for pokemon
Meloeta some dance figth style
No idea about croakgun concredurr or brellom -
And then Raichu became Ky Kiske
-
So, I suppose we can include Haunter (therefore Gastly), Drowzee, Golbat and Cubone in the list of those not getting Alola forms (and Ariados if we are assuming it's not going to be restricted to GenI monsters already).
Anyways, I saw this theory on reddit. Alola Marowak's description on Coro Coro says it evolved like that to protect itself from its predators in Alola. So, judging from its new typing (Fire/Ghost), the theory is that this predators would actually be Bewears trying to hug crying Cubones. They would be trying to comfort them, but since they can't control their force… Ghost type would be immune to Bewear and Fire attacks cause extra damage on it because of its Fluffy ability.

Sounds legit lol

There is the infinite potential of kung fu, drunken fist, with the musketeers and chessnaugth there could be more soldiers than martial artist, but for some reason they didn't give figthing type to samurott (I blame emboar).
I have to check the origin of bisharp and pawniard to see what was their reason for being super sentai mons not figthing.

Has there ever been a Pokemon whose fighting style resembled Muay Thai?

This post is deleted!

The kickboxers and kick specialist are the closest.

The kickboxers and kick specialist are the closest.
The only other martial arts I can think of off-hand is maybe something like Pencak Silat or Escrima.
-
English trailer released. That Team Skull theme is different in this trailer than the Japanese one, they are like…the JET SET RADIO team. LOL

@S.C.:

I was refering to closest to muai Thai, not Hawaii.
The trivia on hitmonlee and hitmonchan on bulbapedia revealed their actual inspirations, as obviously Jackie chan wasn't a boxer and Bruce Lee wasn't a kick specialist. They were based on a boxing and kickboxer champions.

I'm really liking team skull. The grunts being punks causing trouble, that the boss seems to have history with the prof, and I'm thinking the admin is Lily's sister.

@Capt:

I think the rumor right now from the Chinese leak(ers) is that the leader of Team Skull, the guy, has relation to Lily.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
However, I've also heard word that:
Team Skull are acting on the behalf of someone else, someone higher up (like a corporation). A corporation that wants to push people, the natural citizens of Alola, off the islands so that he can turn it into a tourist destination or some-such, because of the unique forms and climates in the region. This is just a rumor though, a pretty big rumor being passed around, and I don't think it needs a spoiler tag of any sort. It's a lot like RoboCop 2, or is it RoboCop 3? lol
People are saying Lily may have a relation to the corparation CEO, he being her father, and that's why she looks so fancy, rich etc. She's a runaway child basically, and doesn't like what her father wants to do to Alola.
-
Wishiashi and Pyukumuku's abilitiies are so fucking broken.
School basically makes Wishiwashi go from a master of none to a fucking glass cannon, and they say its overall strength in school form makes even Gyarados flee in panic!
Pyukumuku's ability, Innards out deals damage equal to its remaining HP if it gets knocked out. This ability has the potential to become a one-hit kill in any battle.

Lol I felt the same way, Jet Set Radio is one of my favorite games though, so every time I see something that remotely remembers me of if, the game just pops into my head.
I guess they send the update today instead of tomorrow since it all leaked anyway, they need to start lieing, like saying it comes out 5 days after when they actually plan to released the updates so people don't datamine the site, and release the info.
-
I don't even know who I want on my team at this point, to much shit I like to varying degrees; from new Pokemon to Alola Forms. I know I want Mr. Grass Owl, but from there…no idea. Though, I'll probably end up getting Rockruff, moreso depending on his evolutionary form(s).
So... Rowlet and Rockruff so far.
-
@The:

Same here. I wanted Grubbin, but then Cutiefly and Wimpod were released and I'm not sure anymore of which one I should put in my team.

Forgot about the Grubbin line… Uh... Might be getting him too, I like his final evo and the typing of Bug/Electric.
-
My team may be complete already, depending on the Alola forms (I have a rule of adhering to only current gen 'mon, but I will see the Alola forms as GenVII and allow it in my team).
So far, my team is going to be: Rowlet, Caterpie (if there is an A!Butterfree), Cutiefly, Drampa, Salandit and Wimpod.
-
According to the website unlike the other alolan formes which seem to have an explanation, scientists don't know what made Raichu change happen.
-
Almost gurantee there's going to be an Alola Butterfree of the Bug/Psychic variant. Pretty sure. Like 85% sure.
That would be the first of it's kind, me thinks, and Butterfree already learns psychic moves, so…might as well give him some STAB love.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
They should give Beedrill an Alola Form as well, make him Bug/Dark, since wasps/hornets are the devil and evil (dark). Make him look like a Japanese Hornet. lol
-
They would have to make a mega for it though, that is double the job, so they probably will only give Butterfree one.
-
"The seemingly weak Wishiwashi is called the demon of the sea because of its terrifying School Form!….They can gather allies and transform into an even more powerful Pokémon! Even Gyarados flee from Wishiwashi’s School Form!"
You know this pokemon is sick as fuck when even the calamity of the seas panics before the presence of one.
-
You know this pokemon is sick as fuck when even the calamity of the seas flees in panic upon encountering one.
It looks like though the school scatters if hit by a super effective move, or, if the HP drops below a certain threshold. It looked that way to me anyway in one of the new trailers, think it was the Japanese one.
Still… I am surprised just how large it's School Form is, and how cool it looks in-game.
-
So true. When I saw its in game model my first thought was "is this super cool looking fish submarine the same I did see a few hours early in a scan?"
The ability turns off when Wishiwashi's HP gets below 25%. Still, is an ability that triggers as soon as you sent Wishiwashi out to battle. And judging by the amounts of damage it dealt to beasts like Gyarados and Metagross, I would say its overall stats in school form are going to be outstanding.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Those friggin neat water textures and that awesome as fuck new Hyper Beam animation tho.

There is Mega Blaziken. He even does that leg thing.
