To be fair, the main timeline would have also easily handled it if Vegeta hadn't been around.

Meh, no matter what happens in Super, Grandpa "Piccoyo" will always make it superior to GT in my book.
I mean, I still want other awesome stuff to come out of Super and blow GT out of the water; I just can't gush about Grandpa Piccoyo hard enough.
GT was shit only goku/vegeta could go ss4 at least everyone else can go ssgod if they train for it future trunks will most likely be trained by vegeta to do it and join up in the tournament to replace buu or monaka.
gt is just a filler arc not canon to the story.
pan is just a saiyan version of chichi she is even more annoying than chichi in gt lol.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I never said GT was perfect. I acknowledge it's flaws and that overall, it wasn't a very good series. I just liked it anyways. Down to personal preference for me really. The reason people are saying GT was better, is because of a few things.
1. Baby. He tied to the Tuffles. The people who were slaughtered when the Saiyans took over planet Tuffle and it became Planet Vegeta, put themselves into Baby. Regardless of if he was a well-liked viliian, he tied to the Saiyans a lot more than someone like Beerus.
2. The Shadow Dragons saga. It yet again, contributed to the lore and mythology of Dragonball by showing a new aspect- a punishment for overusing the Dragonballs. Something that was long overdue, as they'd become a plot device that was greatly overused in Dragonball, and of all things..GT directly addressed that fact. I admit though, the only Shadow Dragons that I personally liked were Oceanus, Nova and Syn. But the concept itself at least, was a clever idea that just didn't get executed as well as we would've liked. Now contrast that with the Ressurection of Freeza or hell, even Frost being in the Universe 6 Arc. Definitely seems like that while yes, people love Freeza…bringing him back wasn't really adding anything big or new to the overall world. The Shadow Dragons definitely did.
and just as a side note...I personally loved Super 17. Yes, I admit the way they defeated him felt like a cop out...but did you ever notice how quickly Android 17 got overshadowed by Cell? This felt like he finally got the justice he deserved in being a proper villian in his own right..and in my opinion and extremely bad ass one at that. Yes I didn't like a lot of things about the exeution (The villians being brought back could've been much better, but to be fair..it wasn't that great in Fusion Reborn either. And the tickling torture and whatnot was lame too, I admit.) but in this case..I just personally felt that it was handled very well. Some could call this arguement hypocritical because I said Freeza didn't need to be brought back. First off..I want to say that I still loved him being brought back and enjoyed it. But think about it. He had his time in the limelight. Android 17 got overshadowed by Cell..hell, even when he fought Piccolo, there was the threat of Cell still looming in the background. This gave him some limelight, and even tied it into Baby. I also don't think it made as little sense as people think it did. It was simply a Machine Mutant that looked like 17...fusing with the real Android 17. That's it.
Everyone can also point to how awful the animation has been in some of the episodes of Super so far..and you can say that at least the ones in GT were consistent, even if not anywhere close to being as good as the best that Super has shown us. Because it also...was never as bad as the WORST Super has shown us. Not even close to as bad. And many of you here probably KNOW how bad Super's art and animation has gotten at times.
Either way..I wanna conclude with this. I'm not saying GT was better...but apparently, some people ARE saying that...and I'm just playing devils advocate here and showing their reasons for it..to show you why that could be.
As for me..I just hope that this Arc redeems itself soon. The slow pacing is killing me..but I LOVE that Future Trunks is back, and an Evil Goku is a pretty interesting concept. (Even if we've seen things like it before with Turles, etc.) So I definitely want this arc to be good.
GT had a higher animation budget when it started out super has gotten better since it was given a bigger budget GT is just filler it was only made to get a lot of money from ads during the breaks due to the amount of people watching it they could charge more for the ads than a new show with less viewers.
dragonball was the most popular anime back one piece, naruto, ect were starting to get popular but they only were just starting out when dragonballz started so they did not want to lose the millions they were making from it.
gt is no different than the fan made episodes.
having pan go instead of goten to space was the worst part of gt since trunks could not fuse with him.
To be fair, the main timeline would have also easily handled it if Vegeta hadn't been around.
Thats true, if only didnt let his rage and pride take the best of him….
This page kinda explains why Mirai Trunks didnt ask Supreme Kai to locate the new planet Namek in order to revive his friends, because 1. he had no idea what were the dragon balls and 2. He could only teleport when he was Kibito Kai and Kibito likely got killed by Dabura in the Mirai timeline too.
Is "Mirai" the new "Nakama"?
IE: Words that have a clear and easy translation, but get left in Japanese just for funsies?
Is "Mirai" the new "Nakama"?
IE: Words that have a clear and easy translation, but get left in Japanese just for funsies?
BUT RIN DON'T YOU SEE THAT "MIRAI" IS SUCH A COMPLEX AND NUANCED WORD THAT HAS SO MANY DIFFERENT MEANINGS THAT ONE CAN NEVER HOPE TO CONVEY WITH THE POOR SUBSTITUTION THAT IS THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE!!!!!!
…In the language of the non-sarcastic, yeah leaving "Mirai" in Japanese is dumb. At least with stuff like Kaio-sama and his kind, Muten Roshi etc. one actually has some excuse in that a literal translation might sound super awkward, but here? …No. It's just "Future Trunks". Perfectly straight forward and accurately explains what one is talking about.
Proper Nouns make some level of sense. If it's a character's name, not a title, a name, then I at least understand the concept of a more accurate rendition of it.
But calling Trunks "Mirai Trunks" is about as silly as calling Vegeta the Saiyan "Ouji" or calling the Cyborgs "Jinzoningen".
I find it even sillier that people are using "Mirai Trunks" and "Supreme Kai" in the same sentence. Needlessly Japanese phrase mixed with inaccurate dub name? Wut?
I found Episode 49 highly enjoyable! THIS is the type of episode 48 should have been (which felt like filler by comparison). Good stuff!

The way you just described that timeline shows your lack of knowledge extremely clearly lol. Naruto wasn't around yet…just saying. I'm not going to bother with the rest of your arguement as it's mostly subjective.

Uhm… the dragonball manga ran from 84-95. The Z anime ended in 96, which is when GT aired for a year. One Piece the manga didn't even start until 98, Naruto not until 99, and their respective animes didn't start till 2000 and 2001 respectively.
The popularity of Dragonball as it ended (not started) had nothing to do with those.
Dragonball's only real competition popularity wise at the time was Slam Dunk,(90-96). It also was the same period as YuYuHakusho (90-94), Saint Seiya (86-90) and Fist of the North Star (83-88) which were all popular battle mangas in their own right, but nowhere near Dragonball levels.
I actually liked them bringing back Cell´s Time Machine. Fighting felt a bit sloppy left and right, but overall I enjoyed the episode.
Yay for them addressing Cell's time machine.
He is gonna make out with Future Mai in front of Trunks?
His suffering will never end..
Black was not moved as he saw a God of Destructin lying around. Badass.
Flashback in the next episode, they are gonna develop the bond between Trunks and Mai.
People are gonna whine about next episode mainly because it will be a Flashback Episode(say things like its boring or filler or it didnt help the story go anywhere)
i feel the flashback will help us See how the Relationship between Future Trunks & Future Mai began and grow plus somewhat expand details of the Fighting between Black & Trunks during the year they fought.
plus we could get the first glimpse of Zamasu cause Of Black having the Time Ring and how Beerus & Whis said the Ring is for Kaioshins Only.
Anyone else expecting Black Goku to turn good?

Apparently there's a Vegeta X Yamcha fusion. Probably the biggest loser in any medium ever.
I actually really like the look of this game! I didn't realise it was some kind of RPGesque game, thought it would just be fighting again.
Hopefully it is good, and eventually comes to the west!
Anyone else expecting Black Goku to turn good?
Would make as much sense as Frieza turning good which I believe was an idea some floated with Revival of F.
Not really, that would be pretty lame.
It being lame and it happening are not the same thing

He shows a lot of respect for Goku and believes what he is doing is for justice which I've never seen a DBZ villian do because they tend to be straight up evil. The seeds have been planted.

Yo can I talk about Xenoverse? I just have a quick question since I can't find the thread for the game: Does offline duel/local multiplayer have tag team battles a la Budokai Tenkaichi 3? Will XV2 have them?

I look forward to the next episode.
How is it that Bulma doesn't realize who Mai is in Super? Wouldn't the Dragonball Cast, of all people, know best whom Mai, Pilaf and Shu were from you know…having fought them before?! Either way, I'm extremely happy they are finally going to have Future Trunks meeting an older Gohan. That has got to be an interesting one! As for the episode 51 itself, it was okay. Nothing too special but a necessary episode for character development that got the story moving a long just fine. Not bad.
Are they even aware what their actual names are? Mai doesn't seem to be hiding hers. It'd be really weird if they still can't recognize them once Future Mai reappears since she'd be about the same age as original Dragon Ball.
This Goku black arc features a lot more planning ahead than usual from a Dragon Ball arc. It's like as if Akira Toriyama is taking cues from One Piece with how this arc is unfolding.
Food for thought. Future Trunks lives in a world constantly on the brink of destruction, from both the Androids and more recently Black. We see he is forced to eat catfood, and had the decency to share with both Mai and a stray cat. He is used to the hunger.
I wonder, how he would react to watching Goku and Vegeta enjoying a meal?

Given his reaction to Gohan's Great Saiyaman scthick along with his groveling to Whis and Beerus he'd probably take it just as well as you'd expect.
Black no selling Nakama power was a cool moment..
I still can't get really attached to Trunks/Mai as a ship.
I look forward to the next episode.[qimg]https://66.media.tumblr.com/d33df342d782ab76c037bdaf24ff8eee/tumblr_oa3ytdvmdM1r72ht7o1_540.gif[/qimg]
Trunk's face is priceless.

Not really. To us as viewers that was a major highlight of the characters lives, especially in the anime which expanded what we saw of Pilof a bunch.
But to the characters? Putting aside anime filler, Mai shot them off camera with a rocket, Shu was in a robot, then they walked right into Pilof's castle and got trapped. They saw Pilof on a tv screen for about two minutes, and then Bulma saw the three of them face to face for about a minute. I don't think they ever really got their names. Then they were knocked out, the dragon was summoned, and then Goku turned into a giant ape for the first time. (And this surrounded by meeting Yamcha, Puar, Oolong, Roshi, Turtle, Ox King and Chichi for the first time in the days around that, and a handful of other adventures… lots of memorable stuff)
ABout a year later Goku met them again, super briefly, and it took him a minute to recognize them. They got into some robots and had a brief fight, and that was it. The showed up again during the Piccollo Sr. saga, but I don't think the leads ever saw them.
It's in the time since been nearly 30 years for the characters, full of adventures, and the Pilof gang also dragonball wished themselves to be younger. So... no. Why would they remember Pilof beyond vague recollection? Especially a version of him that's younger than the one they met thirty years prior.
Gohan for the Kimberly farewell and Trunks in this scene was priceless.
In this episode, we learn to let go of the Gohan of the past and future and accept the Gohan of the present.
Some of us were hoping Gohan seeing Trunks again would make him train, so he could help him. Instead, he doesn't even ask what's going on. RIP all expectations / hopes of Gohan ever fighting or be relevant again.
R.I.P Gohan fans, may your denials rest easy.
"But Luffy should be a marine, his family wants him to be one, and he's already beat some bad pirates!"
Not really. To us as viewers that was a major highlight of the characters lives, especially in the anime which expanded what we saw of Pilaf a bunch.
First, fix'd.
Second, I wouldn't exactly say it wasn't a big deal for the characters themselves, I mean, that was the first adventure they all went on together. I can see them remembering the event itself….
and Third, Basically everything you said is right on the money, especially with the fact that their few interactions with Pilaf and co. have shown them to be pretty incompetent...
It's probably on NOBODY'S radar that they'd get the Dragon Balls and wish not only to be younger, but to be little kids again. If I was asking to be younger, I'd wish to be like Eternally 22 or something. So I don't think ANYONE is setting off any alarm bells.
Now, if their names came up or the subject got breeched another way, like "Oh hey, remember that Pilaf guy?" or something, It'd probably dawn on them, but otherwise they have no reason to really think anything is up here lol.
Some of us were hoping Gohan seeing Trunks again would make him train, so he could help him. Instead, he doesn't even ask what's going on. RIP all expectations / hopes of Gohan ever fighting or be relevant again.
It's odd just how much of a jobber Gohan is now… I'm behind. I'm getting caught up, but I just got to the Universe 6 Tournament arc. Last episode I saw was Champa and Vados creating the arena while Bulma and Jaco went searching for the Super DBs.... Has it gotten explained at all what happened to Gohan's Old Kaioshin powerup yet?.... or are they still just coasing on "He doesn't train anymore"?...
Has it gotten explained at all what happened to Gohan's Old Kaioshin powerup yet?…. or are they still just coasing on "He doesn't train anymore"?...
Obviously they haven't been very clear about it… but it seems that Super's treating it less like the permanent change it was in the manga and more like an alternative transformation, one that's just "stronger than Super Saiyan" and that Gohan lost the ability to pull off for a while. He used it against Beerus, but then used Super Saiyan for the SS God ritual. During the Freeza stuff Gohan laments that he can't use his "full power" anymore from lack of training but can still go Super Saiyan, so that "full power" is probably his Ultimate state. But then he seemed to be using it again while sparring with Piccolo during the pre-U6 material, if I remember right.
So it's just as back-and-forth and poorly explained as any other strength-related thing in Super, honestly...
Ok Gohan was absolutely bad in this episode.
For real now not only because his training with Piccolo was nothing as it seems but for his behavior towards Trunks.
For real someone from the future comes to you with all fucked up clothing and you forget to ask him what's going on.
For real?
If Zamasu and Black turn out to be different people then… Goku should be the one that defeats Zamasu and Trunks/Vegeta should take care of Black, im trying to make sense from a story standpoint.
Aside from the animation a sweet episode. I really like were Gohan is right now, I hope they keep him out of trouble. There are enough saiyans out there.
I loved episode 52 of DragonBall Super. It was nice to see how Future Trunks would interact with Gohan. Something I'd been wanting to see in fact. It also puts everything in perspective via a nice slice of life episode, which can be nice sometimes.
I really enjoyed this episode. With this episode, I stopped being bothered by Gohan being sidelined.
Now, I'm fine with him just being a family man for a while.
Poor Trunks. All he wants is to have dinner with his mom and girlfriend.
The way I see it, the point of the episode was to show a contrast between the two. Trunks has gotten stronger, but at the cost of being happy and having the life he wanted. Gohan has grown weaker, but he's happy and content with his life. While we all want Gohan to be stronger, he has no need to. He has a family now and he probably also figures Goku has it covered. It's something to show fans why Gohan still hasn't grown stronger thus far.
OK so here as well…
It isn't about Gohan being weak or that he is happy with his family. That actually is really nice and I loved the Pan scenes...
But still he hasn't given no fuckss about Trunks and the reason why someone from the FUTURE is coming back with the risk to fuck up the timelines again...
And to say why he is even more shit...
His damn father sacrafized himself against Cell and stayed dead cuz he know the world is in safety with Gohan around... Gohan has given no fucks of training at least a bit to stay as strong as he was... What happened... Daddy Goku had to save the day again even after mentioning that the new generation has to learn to protect earth on their own.
After it he became a cheap power up for fucking free... What did he do with it... Yup lost it at RoF. Than TOEI gave us hope with Gohan realizing that he has to train to be able to protect his family... AWESOME HYPE... Vegeta even praised him for his potential. But no... this episode Piccolo said he gives no fucks about the training.
I'm not saying he has to be Goku 2 training all day in RoSaT but he should have just realized after all the shit he went through as kid that he should be at least in shape... Holy shit if he is smart he fucking knows that he has the biggest potential and I have no doubts that with only 1 fucking day with Goku in RoSaT he would reach SSB.
But hey fuck it... Gohan just believe instead Daddy and Uncle Vegeta will always stay alive protecting them... And its pathetic... Well to be honest. Same goes for the whole Goku family... All of them went to shit tier in Super while the Vegeta family has progressed as character far more over the time and still do at Super.
Just look at Vegeta. He is angry like always... But this time he is angry because someone is fucking with his family and not because lol pride and strenght.
Goku on the other hand is stil playing the game instead of dealing seriously with Black

Part 2

Some small summary from part 1 by Kanzenshuu
! We don't see it in the manga version, but future Bluma still died in the process of charging the time machine. She and Trunks were going to activate a solar generator, but I don't know if the time machine is electric or if that was to produce whatever the fuel is. Regardless, the time machine is charged enough for a one way trip, just like the anime.
! The manga has Jaco specifically remind everyone that time travel splits the timeline to create a "parallel world". He brings it up because he heard from Tights that she was doing "dangerous" research and wanted to remind her time travel is a crime. Bluma says most of her research now is beauty based. The "other stuff" is for the future, which they won't need if peace continues.
! Kid Trunks' teacher follows up with a lesson on "parallel worlds". It's kinda morbid… To explain the theory, she says a boy (A-kun) wants to take rice bean cakes back to his younger mother, but she chokes on them and dies in the "parallel world". So now there would be a timeline where his mother doesn't exist and the boy isn't born. However the original mother and child remain fine. That lesson was from a college textbook that she had on accident though...they were supposed to be doing math. So, everyone, what's 10-3=?
! Bluma asks Whis about when he reversed time with Freeza, wondering if there's a "parallel world" where the tyrant still lives. Whis says that's not changing the past, but simply "redoing". After using it, the "time base" switches out so it can't be used again for a while. (Don't ask what that is. No idea.)
I dot not get nothing about it… But Black looks awesome
Poor Trunks. All he wants is to have dinner with his mom and girlfriend.
Has a character from any other series suffered as much or worse than Trunks?I also feel bad for Kid trunks getting cucked by his counterpart, how long until he snaps?
