Trollish? I'm a true fan of Dragon Ball since i was 6. There is no magic in here. The animation in GT was better and the MUSIC. The narration in Super is bad, the build is bad, the character design is bad (except Hit. The new Dragon looks like a fucking monster from Yu Gi Oh), the concept "joke, fight, joke-fight, joke" can work in One Piece but not in Dragon Ball. I don't think the main essence of Dragon Ball is that. No bleeding, no scars, no agony, no interesting enemies (except Hit)… For me they destroyed what Dragon Ball Z was. First 25 episodes was repeating 2 movies. TWO! And using an old enemy (Freezer) with a "super" transformation where they changed the color scheme. ¡It's like a 8 years old version of Dragon Ball Z!
And the main concept is "stolen" from a FAN FICTION: Dragon Ball Multiverse. Incredible that they got payed for that.

Love it or hate it, Super is kindof an attempt at a return to form for DB, getting it back to its more comedic roots.
Whether you think they succeeded or not is subjective obviously, but I don't think it's fair to hate on it PURELY because they chose a format closer to the early series rather than later series.

The thing is that they also attempted coming back to DB's concept in GT first. And that, in my opinion, simply failed.
What I'm personally lacking from DBS is some kind of serious threat. Even classic Dragonball, despite the joke fights being great, was at its best when it had threatening villains, Tao Bai Bai probably being the prime example (and especially when ignoring Piccolo, which some will probably argue was already more Z than classic DB). So far I cannot get engage in this plot and I can totally see why others have the same issue.

That's what Dragonball was until the Piccolo Daimo arc. Then, over the next couple of arcs, it shifted somewhat towards more action less comedy. The Boo arc actually started to bring BACK some of the goofy comedyness tbh (The villain turned people in to CANDY)
You might not think the execution was very good, that's a valid complaint, but Super is clearly trying to return back to the roots of Dragonball, which you'd know if you were really a fan.

This makes me laugh as you defend DBGT so much in some of your other posts, and Super is LEAPS AND BOUNDS more original than DBGT.
GT tried to do what Super's doing (Harken back to the more comedic days of early DB) but instead of trying to do this thematically, they tried to do it LITERALLY by actually just making Goku a kid again and making the first arc a "Find the Dragon Balls" arc.
GT Reused an enemy too (Super 17) and at least Freeza actually had a real personality. 17 wasn't a strong antagonist on his own to begin with and what little he did have was sapped out of him in the "Super" 17 persona.

No. Not really, no.
First, DB has a long history of doing Tournament arcs. 21st Tenkaichi Budokai, 22nd, Uranai Baba Tournament, 23rd Budokai, the Cell arc ended in a tournament format, then the 25th Budokai. If we're counting Filler, there was the Ano'yoichi Budokai with Paikuhan. The concept of "Oh, they did another tournament arc" isn't "Stealing from a fanfiction".
The concept of "there exists other universes out there" is the only point that's similarish but not really to that webcomic. In Super, the alt universes are markedly and entirely different from the existing universe. the Freeza looking guy was pretty similar to Freeza in design I'll admit, but he was supposed to be a "Different" character, and literally everyone else in Universe 6 has a unique name and design.
"Dragonball Multiverse", the webcomic, is just an excuse to draw different characters fighting. Every Universe is a close facsimile to the "Main" one. They did this purely as an excuse so they could do fanservice fights like "Vegetto vs. Broli" and stupid stuff like this. Super at least has original characters.

well considering they went out of their way to skip the "Lost Episodes" and start GT with "action", at the Baby saga … saying it's their fault isn't to much of a stretch

Given that they developed some of the other universe's characters(namely Cabba and Hit), maybe, there will be another tournament in the future, but, this time around, with no teams, every one fighting on their own. Would be even cooler if they expanded the multiverse stuff even more and introduced characters from the others universes.
If they go to a filler streak, i might stop watching till the next tournament or major arc comes up.

That's actually incorrect. There's several universes in DBM with completely original characters and concepts, and others which are based on the original DB universe but diverged so massively you can definitely not call them a "close facsimile". Though admittedly the former ones are, at least for me, the least interesting because they are so alien from the original DB mythology and I can't really care about any of their characters.
While I also disagree on DBS stealing the tournament idea from DBM (wasn't a tournament across all four corners of the universe the whole point of that tournament filler with Pikkon? If anything they expanded that idea), I think DBM does it better.
I care less about an alternative Frieza who has to win through cheating than seeing how someone of Freeza's race could have developed if they ddn't all die against Goku and Trunks, as it has been the case with King Cold in DBM. Similarly, another (admittedly more interesting than Frost) Saiyan character "only" going SSJ for the first time while bringing no new concepts to the table is less interesting than seeing an alternative evil Goku combining SSJ and Oozaru. Though, as we have seen with Kaio-Ken + SSJ DBS at least does not completely disregard combining different concepts.
Hit is interesting, but the other two completely new characters were rather boring and disappointing.
I think a good total comparison is the Otherworld tournament Baba hosted in DB. Most of the characters lacked a backstory and the fights were mostly jokes, but it was still much better than what DBS has been pulling off. It felt more was at stakes during that event than there is now.
I honestly also think you can't really pull off a DB anymore for the simple reason that Goku is a grown-up. Jokes like Devilman's beam don't work as well in that context. If they'd go a route similar to the Buu Saga it would be fine, but to me this doesn't feel like that at all.

He's WAY less powerful in GT than he should be, they completely ignore his "Mystic" powerup and just have him go super Saiyan, and he jobs to Baby, Super 17 and got one-shotted by Yi Xing Long. That was the extent of what Gohan could do in GT.
At least Battle of Gods/Super acknowledges Gohan can still do the "Mystic" powerup as he does there, and Resurrection F/Super explains why he can't do it anymore (Lack of training apparently)
Also remember, other than those three instances where he jobbed in GT, Gohan sits pretty much every fight out. The one tournament they had, he spectated instead of competed, didn't go with them to seek out the Black Star Dragon Balls, and was relegated to support status… the same as Super.

All of these things are opinion. Jaco was great, he's actually one of my favorite parts of the RF movie.
All those things you don't like, to me as an actual fan of the ENTIRE Dragonball series, feel like callbacks to Dragonball's Roots.
Remember, this is the series where Krillin's first big fight in the series was him fighting against a super stinky guy whom he beat because Goku reminded him he doesn't have a nose.

I do think part of this might stem from the fact that in the western world, we got "Z" first*, and FUNi REALLY marketed it as a "HARDKAWR ACKSHUN SHOW!!!" and I think some people then got this stuck in their heads without realizing that Pilaf to Piccolo Jr. isn't some goofy spinoff prequel that came later, it's the beginning part of the exact same series. So when new stuff like Super tries to recapture some of the charm and feeling of Early DB, it comes off to these people as "Childish".

The more I read about GT, the more I am happy I had enough discernment back then to drop it after 2 or 3 episodes.
Watched episode 40 finally. So I guess Monaka is basically Space Hercule then.

The really bizarre thing anyone assuming that Z didn't have any goofiness or lightheartedness to it at all.

So the latest manga chapter of Super was released and it was pretty entertaining with how different they approached the matches. Its cool looking at the differences between the two.

I wonder how things would have turned out for the Dragon Ball franchise if the Harmony Gold dub was picked up in '89; outside of the various, often bizarre name changes, it was supposedly less censored and had dubs of the first and third films plus a handful of episodes.
