Yeah, ugh… they have time for maybe one more thing.... Doubtful it'll be anything good if they're only gonna devote like 2 minutes to it.
ugh...

Why not the "four varia suit" as they did to link?
FINALLY. A GAME I WANT. Fuck. Haha and no release date.
Noqanky! Its happening!
Still no western release date for Picross 3D 2, huh? /sadface
I have a friend who would love the waddle dee amiibo.
And Still only really looking forward to Star Fox and now, kinda Paper Mario…
Nothing else grabbed me.....
Also, if that Mother 3 rumor was true, how much do you wanna bet they're saving it for E3 just like how they announced Mother 1?
On one hand, that was kind of a meh direct.
But on the other hand, KIRBY! I loved Triple Deluxe.
One 3DS game I'm interested in that we'll get like, sometime (and a year after it should have been localized). Nothing else was even really a new reveal except shovelware and Paper Mario Paint (ugh). AND no Zelda info. Great 40 minutes bro.
well that was about what I expected for this direct
Well, I want to see the rest of the dlc characters for hyrule warriors. And I hope there is the other metroid game for the 30th anniversary for the nx but I won't hold my breath.
Zelda wiiu and mother 3 are e3 games for sure.
Monster Hunter X announced only 3 months after its Japanese release. Whoever still doubted it would be released overseas after the huge success of MH4U is an idiot.
You know, if that direct had been EXACTLY THE SAME As it was, no difference, just after Kirby he was like "Oh by the way, Mother 3!!!" I would have declared this best direct ever….
Instead, it felt like it teased me like 3 times with "We know you've been looking forward to this" and "You like RPGs? Weeeeeeell..." Kinda build ups....
Fuck you Nintendo. Don't play with my heart like that.
It's okay Rin. We get Grippy's Grope Quest instead.
Paper Mario Wii U! And….well it at least looks better than Sticker Star
No it doesn't. It really doesn't.
It looks like more garbage non-paper mario things like walking around in a lifeless environment to rescue a bunch of lifeless Paper Toads while in battle all you can do is tap at your screen to have random shit like real life fans appearing to make stuff happen.
I want to stride into Nintendo headquarters in Kyoto and slap them silly for being so fucking stupid about what made people like Paper Mario. I mean, I expected to be disappointed, but fuck man, at this point they're just outright belligerently using the property in new and creative bullshit ways.
And yay rhythm heaven… sometime this year I guess... the rest was honestly all really painful. Starfox 64 HD, and ... a bunch of japanese games where people are different classes and fight monsters and admittedly a kirby game that looks alright, tho kirby itself has never really been a hype franchise for me.
I do want to get the King Dedede amiibo. Since I never found the Smash Bros one in store.
the Paper Mario game doesn't seem entirely terrible (still would have liked old Paper Mario elements tho) and the new Kirby game looks fun.
Well, at least the chances of having actual content on this year's E3 rose.
Ho boy that paper mario trailer gave me such dread, why Nintendo why? There was absolutely nothing appealing in that trailer. Stop ruining one of my favorite rpg series please. The only new game shown that even looks remotely interesting is the Kirby game, which looked pretty damn cool. Looking forward to DQVII and Bravely second, but those aren't new. Also I've been hopeful for Mother 3 the whole time. I'm sad now.
it's that same thing with paper jam where people were all "nah, it looks ok" and I kept insisting it really wasn't. Just give it time, you'll see. YOU'LL ALL SEE!!
I guess more than anything I want the paper mario games to legitimately tank to force them to reevaluate what they're doing, but they probably won't because mario on the cover.

I myself decided not to get Paper Jam it just didn't grab me.
Direct was about what I expected, really. Nothing major, just mostly updates about stuff we already knew about. They're definitely holding onto bigger things for E3 (hopefully, anyway; I thought the same about last year's E3, and we all know how that went).
Glad to hear Star Fox Zero hasn't been delayed, though Star Fox Guard kind of confuses me - that's a seperate game, right? They mentioned that it would be packaged with Star Fox Zero, so I'm assuming it's basically a side game. Hopefully it doesn't bump up the cost of a physical copy too much…
Never really played Paper Mario, so I can't really comment on the new one either way. It looks like it could be fun, though apparently it's not what people really wanted.
So, the Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensei game...they're not even pretending it's a crossover anymore, huh? They even said it was a new IP. Makes you wonder why they even hyped it up as a crossover in the first place, really. The game itself doesn't really interest me, either. It pretty much looks like anime cliches: the game to me, but who knows.
New Kirby...meh, Kirby games were never really my thing. Cool for the people that like them, though.
I'm still really bitter about the lack of Zelda Wii U news, though. Really, Nintendo, would it kill you to at least mention it? Or, I don't know, give us an actual title?
SNES games only on the NEW 3DS is lame.
"Another RPG is headed to the 3DS, and it's one fans have been clamoring for….."
"DRAGON QUEST VII!!!"
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
I'm much more excited about DQ7 than Mother, so… also it means we should be getting the port for DQ8 on the DS as well, which is also awesome.

They can't because it's going to end up be a launch title on the NX.:ninja:
It should also be on the Wii-U, but the longer it takes to get to, the more I think those rumors of them announcing the NX this summer for a December release, and Zelda to come with it, to be true. And they can't say anything about it yet as a result.
Nintendo: "Listen, guys, Federation Futbot is totally a Metroid game. Because we say it is. Here's a long-winded 'explanation' video. Deal with it."
Me:
They've only said a million times that the new zelda is for wii u. But hey, they haven't said it a million and one times, and I bet that's because it's secretly been moved to the NX.
Star Fox Zero is NOT Being delayed.
All the Doom and Gloom about that can cease now right?
yes, yes it can cease and our hearts will alight in flame in knowing that it will be release as planned.
Yeah I'm happy Star Fox Guard wasn't delayed. I can finally get a new IP (shamelessly rebranded and bundled with a major title in fear).
And yeah guys I guess the regular 3DS isn't powerful enough to run SNES games right?

"The regular 3D$ $ystem$ don't have the proce$$ing power to run $NE$ game$ properly. Plea$e under$tand." -Nintendo

It can be on the Wii U AND be a launch title for the next system. Not like Zelda specifically hasn't done that exact thing before. (not to mention HD re-releases of all the 3D games)
If they're holding off and not showing anything and not giving out even an intended release date, it might just be because they don't want to send mixed messages when the time comes by having to skirt the multi-system release before the NX is officially announced. They can't very well say "ONLY on the wiiU!" for the next 6 months and then switch it to "Only on the wiiU… AND the NX!"
If they know at this point its going to be on both, but can't say as much, then they're going to stay tight lipped about that fact for a bit and skirt around talking about its actual release, until the theoretical e3 announcement of the NX in the summer..

Except that they have already sent out those mixes messages by CONSTANTLY reminding people that the game is for Wii U. Them holding off on information about it at this time doesn't mean diddily-squat, it just means they don't have information on it that they're willing to share right now.
I still have hope that Nintendo isn't going to light the Wii U on fire and run from it screaming after a mere 4 years. Zelda is potentially a system-seller so announcing a cross-platform release will just be self-nailing that coffin even more.
Also Nintendo can say whatever they want. They don't have to push it as "ONLY" for Wii U. The working title is already Zelda for Wii U. They just have to keep saying that, and then eventually say "by the way, we are excited to announce that it will cross-release on the NX." It's a very, VERY stupid reason to intentionally withhold information. But then again Nintendo has been sucking at everything.
They also just announced a new pokemon game due at the end of the year with literally nothing to show on it except some background concept art, as if they started on it two weeks ago. And keep trying to push a metroid game that isn't metroid that no one wants.
They're not exactly on top of their game at the moment when it comes to hyping or announcing things.
That's the point exactly. And it's probably not because they're going to be announcing that Pokemon is also coming out on the Nintendo 4DS.
They're probably still scrambling trying to figure out how to make the nintendo direct format work in the absence of Iwata. Because really, how do you fuck up a pokemon game announcement? That's a new low.
Depends on what the hell exactly the NX actually is. If it really is some weird console portable hybrid, who knows?
But with the Pokes at least I think they'd just planned to do a midquel this year until higher ups insisted they do something new for the anniversary and they actually are starting later on it. Pokemon is never a launch title.
The problems and delays with Metroid and Starfox and etc tho?
Metroid got delayed? What metroid?
Star Fox got delayed for reasons of wanting to have the game be polished and acceptable before release, that's just a normal issue of deadlines getting in the way of game development and nintendo having the preference of delaying things to make sure they're quality instead of releasing broken crap and then patching it over the course of months.
For pokemon I'm thinking it's probably a thing where pokemon company is not satisfied with what they have yet and since they've been focusing on pokemon 20th anniversary stuff they figured to keep the announcement as simple as possible.
Metroid got delayed? What metroid?
That four player not-Samus shooter thing they've apparently been working on for six years that nobody cares about that's not for a console that they've now retooled to include Samus in some vague way because everyone says they don't want it because it's not Metroid.
Plus whatever delay has been holding up an actual new game for forever.

Maybe, but considering that they've been completely on top of the marketing on all their previous releases for years and years now, usually when they announce they have trainers, starters, legendaries, and some screenshots ready to show from the outset, even if very little else is ready. This time they have… a drawing of a random legendary that's revealed before the announcement? A picture of a hotel? ANd for a game releasing in under 10 months?
Its very, VERY sloppy and unprepared by their standards.
I'm sure they'll have something in Corocoro more official looking, but they're usually way more on the ball.
That's true, in the context of pokemon announcements in the past this one was just inexcusably shoddy.
That Paper mario trailer hurt me deep, deep inside. I understand the want of doing something different but… Why emulate Sticker star?! It was a sub-par game! No originality!
I... I don't understand at all, nintendo.
EDIT: It seems to combine everything sticker star with Paper Jams "not that interesting" toad collection. I would accept it if the toads was, ya know, unique and different from each other.... But this is just sad.
For those wanting more info about star fox:
Plus whatever delay has been holding up an actual new game for forever.
"We pissed off a lot of people with Other M and don't know what to do with the series?"
Is the reason I'd imagine them having….....then I remember Sticker Star led into whatever new game it is that's got people upset.
Well it's like, I understnad there being a gap between the original, gameboy and SNES games, that was pure console generation dynamics at work, but even then it was still 3 games in 8 years.
And then there was an 8 year gap before Prime.
At which point there were 8 games (9 counting trilogy) in an 8 year period.
And then its been nothing again for a huge chunk of time. I understand Other M throwing them off but cripes.
Between this, Star Fox, and Donkey Kong Country they can't seem to remember how to make games for more than one console at a time, and then they just forget franchises entirely for a decade.
With Nintendo the issue right now is they're thinking with the japanese average consumer in mind, and in japan metroid games were never a huge thing. From what I remember, Other M was an attempt at making it more of a thing, and that failed, and since then they haven't really bothered to try much anymore.
Meanwhile, japan is very friendly towards mobile games and the 3DS is a much more common system there given its multiplayer and streetpass functions work better given the higher population density. So games like federation force and triforce heroes are the sort of games that would appeal best to that market. Notice how even the characters are chibified to create a product more likely to appeal to a japanese mobile market… I know if it were a western studio the idea of giant heads would only happen as a cheat code or bonus.
Sticker star is also a symptom of this. Miyamoto asking for it to reflect mario conventions that mean levels instead of an open world and a more streamlined battle system that allows for even noob players or players not paying much attention to perform superpowered attacks based on chance or what they've been collecting instead of on skill. They even made it to limit the number of original characters and locations to allow for ease of entry (random average person will recognize mario characters, don't bother adding more than that), which is a trend you begin to see in all mario rpgs following the growth of the new super mario bros series.
If you play something like Thousand-Year Door again, which I got to stream recently, you see that the game has an absurd number of original settings and characters, and the combat system and dungeon puzzles require investment and focus, and that's something they're assuming casual mobile gamers lack. It actually leads me to wonder why this new paper mario game is even on a console.
So my guess is that stuff like what has happened to paper mario is nintendo realizing that mario is their main selling franchise and making all mario games as mario as possible and as little of anything else in order to hit a wider market, while sacrificing the market that was initially devoted to the concept of the paper mario franchise.
The new Kirby looks exactly like Triple Deluxe, but with a different gimmick - mech suits instead of hyper vortex. I'm actually totally okay with this, I thought TD was pretty good.
Meanwhile, the new Paper Mario looks exactly like Sticker Star, but with a new pointless gimmick. I'm not okay with this, but at least now I know for certain that the Paper Mario I once loved is dead, and there's no reason to hope otherwise.
Star Fox continues to not impress, but I'm still willing to give it a chance. Kinda hinges on how many stages it actually has - I only counted 13 planets in that screenshot, and SF64 had 15, so…
Federation Force has been revealed to be not just a Metroid spinoff that nobody likes - it's also a Metroid spinoff that has been in development hell for 6 years that nobody likes. Next Level can make good games, so maybe it's actually fun, but it's certainly not Metroid, and Nintendo appears to have done nothing with any of the feedback they were given after its disastrous reveal.
Well that was underwhelming, and I kept getting my hopes up for Mother 3.
"An RPG many fans are waiting for"
"Pleeease be Mother 3"
Dragon Quest VII!"
"Oh"
"And another popular game from Japan everyone is waiting for, M-"
"Mother 3?"
"-onster Hunter Cross!"
:(
Funny part from the Direct:
We wanted to use this new game to tell the story of the battle between the Federation and the Space Pirates… Given the focus on the Galactic Federation, and space pirate battle, while Samus may appear in the story, it meant she couldn't be the main player in this game
Um… That logic doesn't add up. If anything, it's all the more reason to include her as a playable character.
And it looks like they're making the SNES games exclusive to the New 3DS just for sales… It doesn't affect me, but come on. In the case of Xenoblade it was understandable, but here it's just $$.
R.I.P. Paper Mario series.
Am i the only one who that Jo's federation force doesn't look bad,
DQVII fan gets his wish, much to everyone else's chagrin when hoping for Earthbound Endings.
Am i the only one who that Jo's federation force doesn't look bad,
Yeah probably. I'm probably going to get it anyway against my better judgement.
