Good turf war stages, maxed out Splatfest level and more wins than losses. So far, so good.

This is the first Splatfest I didn't enjoy at all. First of all knowing that your Team will lose in the end sucks. Because less Sea Snails.
Playing with huge Lag and constant disconnects paired with long waiting times and shit stages can rly take the fun out of it. -

Playing with huge Lag and constant disconnects paired with long waiting times and shit stages can rly take the fun out of it.We don't know if Red will lose yet (though I'm hoping it will, sorry). Also, "shit stages"? Whaaa? Ancho-V is hectic but doable. The Camp is good if you keep track of the enemy (lost to a team with three under lvl 10 players because my team harassed their base while a couple rollers super jumped for the win). And the Skate park is fun when luck and momentum is on your side.
I'd take all three over Hammerhead Bridge. THAT is a crap Splatfest stage.
-
Blackbelly Skatepark is honestly one of the most balanced stages I can think of. Camp Triggerfish is also rather spacious and leads to completely different gameplay options than skatepark and Ancho-V, and ancho-V had to be there due to being THE ONLY stage that had yet to be featured in a splatfest.
So yea, I also disagree with "shit" stages.
As for the other complaints, all I can say is that that has been my splatfest experience every single time. Impossible lag being the number one bummer.
-
Looks like Red Team and Charizard fans got surfed
-
Could you maybe remember, that I'm not NA and we DON'T have the same stages as you? We had Hammerhead. And Camp and Skatepark. Skatepark is the only stage of those I liked. Sorry that I'm not sharing your love for Camp.
And no, for me it was pretty clear from the start that red would lose. Probably because I know a huge amount of good players choosing blue. Oh look, I was right in the end! Red lost in every region. But please go on pretending like I'm dumb and have no clue what I'm talking about.

Come on, Nami. I'd never do that here. I'll save that for the Mafia game.:ninja:
Seriously, I did forget we're in different regions. But, on a lighter note I won my first Splatfest and would like to thank all the under lvl 20 players who voted for Red and the unfair Splatoon match-up system that screwed you over.
Or maybe the system is correct and I'm just that bad at the game. Hmm… -
Ancho-V games is such a great stage. It's just so delightfully chaotic with the rising platforms and the small center area. Perfect for carbon rollers.
I like how they've started implementing features from the single player in the new maps. Though I still haven't gotten the chance to check them all out.
I decided to play ranked again, after not playing it for ages to protect my S rank. Ended up sliding back to A+ as soon as I did…

Also, it's funny seeing people say they always knew red would lose that a page ago were saying more people were going Blue while I kept reassuring them that charizard = popular = blue wins.
But yea, whatever, details. :ninja:At this point all that matters is strutting along to collect all my sea snails. It's also a bit surprising that I kept having to battle other blue teams… I guess the red fans played mostly on saturday?
-
Yeah I probably played 25% or more of my games against other Blue teams, which doesn't make sense to me. I'm going to chalk it up to Nintendo sucking at matchmaking because it's always a safe bet XD.
-
That only happened to me once, my only no pressure Splatfest match.
In other news, I hit S Rank for the first time! Gonna drop back to A Rank eventually but glad it's possible to achieve. Or, I could never play Rank battle again and keep it. Decisions, decisions. -

Decisions, decisions. If you play ranked in squad you don't rank down, I think? So you could now start actually just playing it for fun without any pressure! ^^
-
Now I only need to find a squad to play with. ^^
Okay. I've been in several Turf Wars today and ALL of them have players on both sides goofing off, mostly together! What in the world is going on? Is some weird unoffical Splatoon thing happening today?

Group of friends do that usually, they either stick in one place inking each others to gain absurd amount of points to level up gear or farm money, or just do squid parties. Something similar happened in Brawl with groups of Captain Falcons doing synchronized dances, or with Mario Kart Wii and the adventures of the Funky Kongs exploring maps in their Bowser Bikes. In Splatoon sometimes happens but not as much, maybe you've just been very unlucky today.

If only the Wasabi Splattershot was the Wasabi Splattershot Pro, then I'd be hyped. Not that I play the game anymore, but still…
-
I guess the world needed more splattershots and more things with kraken. New splattershot pro looks ok though.
-
The balancing stuff is boring. Though the buff for Killer Wail is welcome.
-
Matching and Teams
- In Ranking until now, teams were divided up totally randomly. From now on the capabilities of the weapons everyone has equipped will be taken into account, just a little, when teams are decided.
- In Ranked, the following Ranks will no longer be matched with each other.
S+ & S S & A A- & B+ B- & C+ - This setting may be changed again in the future depending on how it effects matching times. [So essentially, S+ will only play S+, S will only S, A (+ through to -) will only play A, etc.]
Changes in Ranking Points
- During a Ranked Match, if a player on your team disconnects, the number of Ranking Points you will lose if (when) you lose will be reducing, taking into account how long the player(s) were missing for.
Adjustments to Gear Powers [see below]
Splatfest Changes
- During a Splatfest the meter showing your win/loss ratio will be changed to "Fes Power." [Japanese name of the gauge]
- How much Fes Power you start with will be determined by factors such as your Rank.
- Fes Power will go up or down depending on whether you win or lose battles.
- The player with the highest Fes Power on the team will also earn a little bit more for winning.
- During Splatfest until now players with similar playstyles have been matched together, but in the future players with close Fes Power will be matched together.
- If the average Fes Power in the team is high, you will get more Fes Points for winning a battle.
- The number of times that player(s) on your team have pressed "Continue" will now be displayed when the next battle starts.
Changes to Graphics
The effect warning that a Killerwail is about to be fired has been changed.
Changes to Gameplay
Fixed the bug in which the "Comeback" gear power effect starts a little late if you super jump immediately after respawning.
Stage Changes
Splat Zones versions of the following maps will now also be used for Turf War
Arowana Mall
Moray TowersI am so happy.
-
YES for Moray Towers getting the extra ledge in all modes.
The Killer Wail warning effect change is also potentially a godsend. So many times I see that and dodge INTO the wail because I can't tell where it is.

hahaha same here.
-
that splatfest thing with the number of times you've pressed continue would mean a lot more if it weren't for constant disconnects constantly kicking you out of effective teams.
-
Hello Wasabi Splattershot and your pretty non-suction bombs. Better balanced Rank Mode, thank you. And buffed gear, nice! Makes a good chunk of my gear useful. Still waiting for the WTF? chat command.
–--------------------EDIT: NA Splatefest this Sat; Snowmen VS Sandcastles.
With the possible onslaught of Frozen fans, Sandcastles might be the way to go. But, the recent update may affect the Least Popular Wins Rule. -
They're introducing Top 100 ratings for this splatfest:
http://splatoonus.tumblr.com/post/141259302479/do-you-want-to-build-a-snowman-it-doesnt-have
Basically they're tracking who the top players* are for each team and giving them a shoutout
*top players being presumably those who get to not be disconnected constantly, lagged to hell, and will for some reason play the entirety of splatfest and get ridiculous winning streaks from staying in their good teams.
-
Never before have I half assed a Splatfest like this one before. Didn't even reach Queen for 7 points. Went with Sandcastles anyways because island life yay!
Glad I only got like… Three disconnects. I expected way more now that my LAN adaptor is no more!
-
Thanks for the super sea snails Frozen fans. Go Team Sandcastle!
Just won an intense 3V4 Splat Zone match at Port Mackeral. Thought I'd only play for fun thinking there's no way we'd win but we did. A Japanese player on my team scored 21 kills! Only scored 8 but made a satisfying kill against a charger I backed from a splat zone to the opposite corner.
-
My kills are normally up in the 20's! People target me on repeat matches because of that ehehe :ninja: I don't gloat though unless someone splats me and gloats first (that repeated diving in ink thing grrr). I kind of find that annoying so they become my splatting target for the rest of the match!
I have ended up winning a few 3vs4 matches and they honestly give you the best feeling! Almost makes the panic you feel when you see a team member poof, worth it. Almost… -
Normally up in the 20s? Sorry, but I'm not buying it. Statistically it just seems too unlikely.
In Turf War I don't think there would be enough time to get that many kills constantly unless all your opponents are throwing themselves at you or are entirely incompetent. So that makes me think it would have to be in ranked.
But even then, while it's possible to get that many kills in ranked, it's not sustainable. Eventually you would have to rank up, since presumably you're invincible, but then upon leveling up you're inevitably facing tougher opponents who would logically be able to actually take you down and prevent such absurdly high kill rates. Not to mention that killing your enemies with that frequency would imply your team would have enough of a lead to render matches shorter and lower that kill average, unless people in your team are dying just as much. But then again, if you're ranking up that would imply an increase in ally competence as well.
Alternatively, the other two possibilities is private play, or you lagging the heck out of everyone else rendering yourself invincible to anyone. But if either of these, I don't exactly see that data as valid.Point is, normally scoring over 20 kills regularly is something I'm not quite buying. I believe getting that sometimes, I think at some point we all have, and I would believe regular kills in the 10-15 ratio. But normally getting over 20? I don't see how.
-
I haven't played Turf war other than Splatfest matches and updating gear and for that I turn back to Splattershot Jr for more points than kills. So in Turf war I am always much lower in splats. In ranked though I normally average from 16 to 21 splats***. (I said up in the 20's btw not OVER. As getting up to that)
I have never played private battles actually so I have no idea how they work at all. Not interested in them one bit.
Even if you splat people all the time, it does not guarantee a victory in ranked or make you 'invincible'. I've been from S+ to A+ and back up a shitton of times (but haven't gone under A+ since I went in the rank now that I think about it -did I just jinx it?-). It depends on all players, not on the kills of one individual who lots of times goofs around like I do. And do I ALWAYS get 20 kills? Of course not. I have awful days where I get murdered all the time and can barely get a kill in. Especially when I end up in the S+ rank and everyone else is up to my play level and I end up in the 10's until I go into a losing streak and go back to S where I have a much easier time.
I haven't been noticing any lagging at all on my part honestly. I HAVE played against laggers though and it was pretty frustrating. Running them over yet ending up the splatted one instead? Wtf!My highest was 24 last Sunday in Rainmaker! Best match I ever had in ranked. My goal is to get 30 one day but I doubt I will succeed anytime soon… If I was good with a charger maybe but I haven't practiced using chargers yet.
Each person is going to play the game as they want at any rate. I play to splat and have been playing that way since the beginning
even if it's not the point of the game.I sucked at first and then I got better with time. I can understand how you think it's unlikely to get that many kills all the time if that's not how you are used to playing, but again that's the play style I worked on the most since the first day I got the game. There's definitely better players than me out there, no denying that, but I am not shabby at all.Now what I am really worried about is that this amazing luck I've had with a stable connection and zero lag issues, will evaporate when we move out of this place as we will have to kiss our internet connection goodbye.. (where we are moving will have a connection already and it's not as good as our current one) I do not want to experience laggy Splatoon at all. I've heard horror stories about it and I feel like it's gonna suck the fun out of it.
***Edit: forgot to make it clear that that is the case when the matches don't end early and go up at least in the 4th minute. Tower Control and Rainmaker are ideal for high kill streaks
-
What weapon(s) do you use Chrissie? I've also been playing since launch, and in my experience (currently sitting at S rank) as well as watching tons of top-level competitive play via streams/tournaments, there are two main situations where someone gets over 20 kills. One is an E-Liter that, due to team composition and stage, is just dominating and controlling the match. The other is in squads where there's an interesting mix of ranks, and then some Tentatek or whatnot going to town on unaccustomed players. Otherwise it's a pretty rare occurrence for me.
-
I use Krak-on roller a lot as well as either Octoshot and Luna blaster. I get higher kill rates with the roller (rarely above 21 and rarely below 15/16) and a more stable mid 10's with the Octoshot and Luna Blaster as I am not as good with them yet.
Tower Control and Rainmaker are the two plays I go for the most as they demand close contact play and I only play Splat Zone when The Hammerhead bridge or Bluefin Depot stages are part of the selection as those are the stages I enjoy most for SZ.
I think you need to remember that -I concentrate on splatting-. I specifically go in the game to splat not win. If I win yay! If I don't, oh well. Next round! Not many players with rollers actually concentrate on just splatting unlike E-Liter players who that's all they pretty much do. That's why you see them getting up in the 20's more frequently than other weapons. I mean if you went in the game with only splatting in mind, you'd get just as many if not more splats no matter your weapon of choice. The highest kills I ever saw were actually from a .96 Gal and not a Charger. So yeah, I pick my battles carefully, I take into consideration the stages and I am wicked with my weapon of choice after hours of practice. Also I am picky with my ability selection in the gears. Speed and stealth ftw. How is it strange that I do so well in splatting when it's all I'm trying to do during play again?
-
Krak-On in those modes with long-lasting times would make sense since kills for a roller with stealth shouldn't be that rare in modes where people are focused on other things, and krak-on also benefits from controlling where it can super jump and having kraken as much as possible.
Still overall from what you claim it feels like a completely different game from the one I've played. The fact that you lowered the definition of 20s to the 15/16 range makes it a lot more reasonable though.
-
Geez Chrissie. Pics or it didn't happen, duh. If you can't proove you're better than us, then you must be lying. :V
Robby was just talking about Splatoon tonight. I think it's about time we picked up the game. I can get it at work on points. We'll see how good you are. you liar liar pants on fire. -
Well if you don't have the game yet I think for sure Chrissie is better than you. No one needs to prove that.
But yea, you should get the game, it's pretty fun and more people playing it would go a long way. More people to play against is always great! We can even for once have the fabled AP match that never came to be since so many people dropped the game before private matches came to be.
-

Seriously though, I am so glad you two are getting it! I wanted to start a second account with exclusively a charger user so maybe I'll do it when you two get the game and we can go together into WAR (getting splatted everywhere for the first 50 matches or so lol). -
…Meanwhile on my End Best Rank I got was A+ 95 :3
But I'll get there eventually!
In other News I'm part of a competitive Splatoon Team and active on Discord a lot. If anyone's interested I'd open an Arlong Park Server. I haven't played with you guys in so long! -
I think A+ is a great rank to reach and play around in!
What I want to try one day, is those games people have been coming up with with their own rules and stuff. i.e I saw a group on miiverse organize hide n seek and it looked like fun! Still I'm kind of a hermit crab though. I chat with several fellow artists on miiverse and have them on my list, but I never asked them to play with me. Maybe when I am done with my self induced challenges on Splatoon, I'll join in similar shenanigans like others have been doing :U Or just restart it with a new account and weapon specialty like I said before
-
Oh yeah, Hide & Seek is super fun! :D I play it a lot with people on Discord and we always have a blast.
-
i feel i need to get involved with online groups more. explain.

I want these to be real so much:

Lol, what the hell. I guess a .104 gal with e-liter range would be hilarious.
Also, regarding creative games, the one I saw that looked stupid but fun was Inkbrush bumper cars. Basically everyone's a brush and there's no swiping, just rolling.

And will have my first team tourney on sunday, wish me luck :3
