@David:
You should really just naturally play the game the way you want to rather than worry so much about routes. There are no routes you're "supposed" to take.
You're supposed to do pacifist, then genocide, and feel bad for wasting your time if you did neutral.
Thats the impression I get from…. basically everyone. The majority of this thread included.
And you're supposed to feel bad if you accidentally ruin your intended pacifist run on the first boss due to not quite getting the mechanics involved.
@David:
If you choose to kill people just because you find them annoying, you are absolutely a sadist and deserve to face consequences.
No, I chose to NOT kill them. No matter how annoying they got. But is it really a choice at all when it's been drilled into your head "do 100% pacifist or else!!!"
And now I'm feeling annoyed that to see the other half of the game and the effects of the other path and the other encounters I have to kill every last one to see the rest of it. Meta commentary or not.
I dunno. Maybe its cause the game just never grabbed me emotionally like it apparently did super well for others. So it's coming across less as what it intended and more as… something else.
I probably would have killed a couple enemies to see what that did, and definitely would have killed Tauriel due to the setup there. But upon doing that, my reaction wasn't "Oh crap I accidentally killed this character I didn't want to kill!" but more "Oh crap I messed up the pacifist run, can I reset and have it not count?" Which the game then immediately called me on.
Maybe it'd work better if I'd been able to go into the game completely blank with zero expectations or having anyone told me what to do, and being able to discover that on my own by accident along the way. If I didn't know there was any such expectation at all until after having gotten through the game and being told to do better, and then striving for it on my own? So its not just railroaded by the game, but what everyone told me beforehand as well?
@taboo:
git gud
I might hunker through it, but more likely I'm just not going to touch the game again and just watch the rest on youtube.
Does the game have a meta commentary for THAT?
