Guys, please stop the hand puns before it gets on someone's… nerves.

I would dance to that but I'm afraid I have two LEFT feet…
I'm sorry I'll leave...But first! right hand that stops, left hand that advances CHAD 4 SOUL KING

Well I did put forth the theory that chad had the left arm of the soul king a few months back.
-
But that would imply that Chad might do something this arc and be useful. Then we would need an explanation about why Chad was unable to beat some characters so easily with such a great power. That also means Kubo needs to remember the awesome introduction Chad had and that he was destined early on for greater thing.

To be fair, Uryu was on the same boat.

He needs to go full Diablo at some point, and look good vs Askin(before Grimmjow deals the final blow).

To be fair, Ukitake had the right arm and we didn't even see his Bankai (oh I'm sure Kubo thought it out in detail but never got to use it). The hand that stops stuff, and it couldn't even stop his cough.

He'll get jobbed super hard.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
my overall feelings on Bleach -
I mean maybe the past ones have to die first before Chad can experience the full power a la highlander
Idk I'm reaching -
Chad is like Gai, it's going to shine before dying but saved by Ixi like Naruto.

Yeah but… the idea of Chad doing awesome things means that Kubo might've had to make Bleach good. And I don't think we could've had that, it's just not written in the cards...
Though having said that, this was actually a pretty decent chapter admittedly. I mean... I feel like at this point the only way that Bleach could possibly be entertaining at all is if we went full on balls to the walls insane and... what better way to do that then have Mayuri, somehow both the worst and the best character in Bleach, fighting a goddamn hand. I feel like... like Kubo needs to embrace the weirdness of his series at this point and... what better way then having a giant poison baby fight a giant hand with eyes... I mean I feel like even Oda couldn't dream up something that hokey. Well... ok he probably could but he'd find a weird way to have it make sense. But either way, Bleach was surprisingly decent this week, so I guess that means that even Kubo can come up with a good chapter, once in a blue moon.
Also, since we're on the subject, this is Weekly Manga Recap's reaction to Pernida's reveal... It's, pretty priceless I'm not going to lie. Enjoy.
-
I expect Mayuri to scream for Nemus help at end of next chapter. For real.
We had Pernida enlarging itself at first, now it multiplies itself and I wonder what is next step at expanding - perhaps it can assimilate tissue or even objects.. it would be "The Thing-like" creepy.
Scene with dozen of hands comming out of Mayuris bankai mouth is also something that could see happening.
Either way - assimilation of Jizo or dozen of hands comming out of its mouth - it would be hella creepy and it would look "great".
If first of Elite Sternritters fight is this good I have really high hopes considering rest of them, for some reason even as Askin is my favourite, somehow I expect really A LOT from Geralt. I have hunch I will be even more amazed with his fight than I am with one we have now.
-
Geralt is Kempachi fooder, he will be defeated by Kempachi's bankai, a FOUR ARMED SWING.
But I'd love if that happens, and Nemu just betrays Mayuri to kill the hand, but there's no buildup, and Kubo hasn't given any hints of mayuri getting his comeupance, so it could happen.
-
We already had Konjiki Jizou being assimilated by Szayel before, Mayuri simply exploded it.
-
Only from the video Kareem Said posted above I know that Pernida was drawn with partially visible normal human hand in his(?) early appearance. Okay, it was left hand, but I refuse to even call that a foreshadowing.

It wasn't foreshadowed. Remember the soul king's first appearance? It had all of its limbs. This is just kubo making shit up as he goes.

Did he have all his limbs? I don't recall all of him being visible. From what I remembered we saw him in a weird egg shaped bubble from a distance then a close up of his weird eyes.

I should probably check out more of this Weekly Manga Recap, since Y Ruler of Time hasn't made a solo video in over a year.

Nope, all his limbs are there.
http://www.mangareader.net/bleach/519/18Though my favourite part about that scene is still the absurdity of someone actually reporting to the Soul King.

Welllllll not quite. His limbs are probably missing

Ah that's the scene I was remembering, not the one Daz linked. Maybe by this point Bach carved him up a bit.
-
Carved him up so much that his left and right arms when back in time and possessed Ukitake/joined the Vandenreich respectively?
Its either that or Kubo not having planned out stuff in advance.

Well…Given his track record.

To be completely fair it could be that Kubo messed up the first time he drew the Soul King, like how Luffy sometimes loses his scar etc. I'd be interested in seeing if Kubo made the SK limbless for the volume, since that would show that someone was aware of the error.
-
Very true. Especially since the first reveal was sorta a small image.
-

That was a double-spread.
And I don't think any author would kinda sorta forget about the fact that their character has no arms and legs, especially when they make a dramatic reveal to introduce his actual appearance. A volume clear up would only mean that Kubo changed his mind post chapter.

Happened to me a couple of times as well. Couldn't remember where my car was after waking up. Is it safe? Is it scratch free? Did I even drive it back home!?
…What?
Seriously, though, I think it was a retcon. There was also Bambietta cutting up squares through several walls when she killed her lover, but that ability was never shown again, and instead, her ability was "making stuff blow up".

I was quite a bit irritated about Bambiettas weapon not being shown - she was cutting fodders on one pannel with something that looked like
Ivys(character from Soul Calibur) weapon. Or maybe I only thought its somehow extending by misinterpretation of panels where she looked like cutting through people from distance.
Just one panel with this weapon was unused potential for some nice fighting scenes imoAs for cutting up squares through several walls I think it was just her shooting reishi like Buzzard did during his fight with Jugo http://mangafox.me/manga/bleach/v69/c631/14.html
-
Still, it was a clean cut through the wall, and there were leftover lines near Bambietta as if she drew a square in the air.
I know Super Quincy should be able to manipulate Reishi to do something like that, but then why not show her cutting ability in the following fights. She cuts Shinigami, she cuts her lover in half, she cuts squares in walls, but come next fight and she becomes a one trick pony.
The most logical conclusion is that Kubo couldn't be bothered to make his fights a little complicated, decided her cutting ability should be cut from the story and went with "I explode you-I'm immortal, 'splosions can't hurt me-Oh shit" scenario.
Still too many characters to bother with? Turn Komamura into a full dog and let him and Iba disappear for good.
-
Even if we can be convinced that SK having all his limbs was just a mistake, it still doesn't change the fact that both the reveal of Mimihagi and Pernida have little to no build-ups and pretty much came out of nowhere, especially the latter. The core problem was SK's missing limbs had never been confirmed to be "out there in the wild" until it's already too late.
-
Another thing that came to my head: is there supposed to be appeal to the Soul King, or is he really just going to be a plot device?
You hear about this guy since Aizen's plot really gets rolling, and his reveal was…..well, what you expect with a god being that essentially formed the world, but I think it's where Kubo's style fails him here - of course he's just there.
But why is he there? What are his thoughts and emotions? His viewpoint in all that has shaken the foundation of the universe? Are we going to get a Kaguya repeat?
Where's the style and pizzazz? If you want to throw in the "god" for your manga, that's perfectly fine, but it wouldn't hurt to throw in something extra.
-Yu Yu Hakusho had a baby with a pacifier.
-Dragon Ball had a green slug man that took the body of a human, then a joke-telling blue guy, then a pervy wise old man that fused with a witch…
-hell, Full Metal Alchemist literally had a blank state but what made Truth interesting was the insight conversations involving Ed and the Dwarf, plus the slight "trollish" nature and the ambiguity of it all. From what we've seen of the Soul King, he seems your standard Bleach "person" with non-regular eyes. Oh, and some extra stuff throw on I guess.
I was half-expecting a loli/shota or some kind of beast, I dunno.
-
The old Soul King got scammed. Here he thought that his job to preserve the multiverse needed him to stay put in a floating piece of amber, but now Bach shows that you can preserve everything, and still be free to walk about and do whatever. And to get a bunch of eyeballs for a face.
-
Why do those eyes have to look like eggs on a pan, anyway. Kubo can at least design interesting characters. Why is Bach's face a roadkill?
Because it isn't his last form?
Anyway, I remember Aizen calling SK "that thing" while talking to Urahara. Like, how can a man of Urahara's intelect bear to work under that thing. It's almost like SK is mentally challenged or challenged in some other way. Or is some kind od perversion of life that shouldn't exist? Naturally, that plot line doesn't seem to have gone anywhere…

This is yammy's number 0 and ulquiorra's segunda etapa all over again. He is just going for the wow factor with out establishing anything.

Greetings again, APForum. Some of you may recognize me, other's may not. I'm the resident enthusiast of BLEACH on the forum, the monkey in a den of tigers and other ferocious beasts (do tigers eat monkeys? Maybe I'm more a gazelle…or better still, A ZEBRA).
Anyway, I caused a minor ruckus way back in 2011, sometime around the time of the tragedy in Tohoku for expressing opinions counter to the established laws of the land. Some things, I admit, were a little childish, as far as choosing the right words to say, but my overall thought process and logic were sound, IMHO. That experience in particular was eye opening for me and remains an important moment for me, because at the time, I also began creating YouTube videos discussing some of the very subjects, mainly manga, the big three and other anime, then eventually BLEACH, then nothing at all, really. Neither here, nor there. Feel free to venture into the past if you want to see who I was 4 years ago. It's always funny going back and having a look at my petty debates with members who have sense left, been banned, or made new accounts.
Over the course of BLEACH's serialization, and notably as of maybe a year ago, my interest in it fluctuate very much. For me, the pinnacle of cool happened around the time of Aizen's battle in FKT with the other captains. The Vizards return, the mindf!cks, the art, Tousen's mask reveal, through Deicide and Isshin's return, Ichigo's hyperbolic experience, until Aizen's eventual defeat were all moments of great excitement for me. Even the Lost Agent arc was enjoyable! The start of the Thousand Year Blood War was interesting, if a little slow, with some coo, wholly inclusive moments as directed by the series ending, up until the Closing Chapter. Needless to say, as I got older and real life became much more pressing, my interest dwindled at points (more so because of the weekly releases, but I haven't reflected too much on my actual feelings toward the story). Though, when anything comes under heavy scrutiny, the cracks are gonna show, there's no way around it. But, in essence, the same things I enjoyed about BLEACH were also there, along with some new things being added into the mix.
I was first introduced to BLEACH in high school. It was the first fansub I'd ever downloaded at the time, using the first computer I'd ever own that my mother bought me.
-> tangent, my first batch of subs were BLEACH, BECK, Honey & Clover... and maybe something else. But all of these series were series in which I knew literally nothing about. It was the titles that stood out. I was also watching Naruto during the time, as most of us probably were, however, that was a hook-up from a friend who burned the first 90 episodes on about 20000000000 discs. Lol. Hyperbole, but it was a sh!t ton of discs.
->-> Tanget #2: my taste in anime is not solely unique or anything special. People like what they like, and at the end of the day, there's nothing wrong with that. But I wanted to sneak in my Top 5 because that will ultimately give you an idea of who I am, as do most Top favorite anythings do (note, order is inconsequential, though, I guess I'll just go with chronology by release):
Touch, Cowboy Bebop, Honey & Clover, NANA, Your Lie in April /end
I was drawn to the funky, edgy character designs, as most original fans of BLEACH have mentioned before. I'm also a big fan of swords, which is why I was immediately drawn to BLEACH, no knock to One Piece or Naruto. but swords aren't central to either of those stories. It's obvious, but I want to point out the obvious, that any form of art, entertainment, media has strengths and weaknesses. Those aspects are natural. People grow and change over time, and making anything takes a toll on the body, especially the harsh realities we've come to know about the anime and comic industry in Japan.
With that being said, and I ran into some heat for this kind of thinking when I came to the board originally, there are things that BLEACH does better than One Piece and Naruto, and vice-versa. For instance, a common criticism of BLEACH is the overly large panels, compared to something like One Piece, and to a slightly lesser degree, Naruto, which is jam-packed full of action and detail, Kubo likes things sparse. But the weakness can be seen as a strength. While the detail in OP is great and all, the panels are very static. There is hardly any sense of movement between panels, no visual tricks to be had. All of the motion takes place in the panel, minus the occasional Luffy special attack that allows his stretch body to span through panels, especially double splash pages.
With that being said, I want to elaborate on what I like about BLEACH, not everything, simply...
BOOKED MARKED LIKE Tsukishima... I will come back to this.
TO BE CONTINUED ON BLEACH

@Purple:
Yooooo. That was pleasant surprise. And a nice place for me to stop for the day.
But I will say…. BEST chapter in a veeeeeerrrrrrrrryyyyyyyy long time.
Also,
よろしくね。
I hope to connect with those, like I did with outerspec (I believe) and ML... something.
-
Well, the chapter was interesting and the fight was pretty dynamic. It's good to see Mayuri in trouble.
Loved that cover, btw. It was great seeing Quillge again. But I noticed Shaz Domino and Berenice Gabrielli are missing (why do I even remember those names).
Nope, found Berenice next to
WarpWind guy on the right. Thank god I don't remember his name too. Poor Shaz is the only one missing then. -
!
I love Mayuri's face at the bottom. It's like "Are you fucking kidding me right now?" -
I think most of us had the same expression.
-
That's half the reason it's so great. Of all the characters we could empathize with, it had to be sociopath Mayuri.
-
Yup, good chapter. And I eat my words that the fight was over and that it was too easy. Au contraire.
Now, the revelation of Nemu's real name. . .should I go "omg omg omg omg" or should I be left completely unfazed, as I am right now? I mean. . .I didn't care about Nemu's real name meaning she's the seventh experiment or some shit, apparently? Or is it a reference to a past chapter I (evidently and obviously) don't remember right now?
-
Could it be, character development in mah Bleach? Might be nothing, but we might have something at least going on where Nemu develops a little and possibly Mayuri.
Nice little chapter. The cover page I liked mainly because of Askin and Mask, my two liked Quincies. It's been a while, but I don't remember Bambietta being that well endowed. As for the chapter, we had some more Mayuri antics which is always fun. Beyond being a giant hand and the way it fights, not very fond of Pernida, but I don't hate it either. Hopefully we can have a satisfying conclusion to this fight, because if it is, then that will be more than I expected Bleach to deliver at this point. Even if not, still will be a memorable and fun part.
-
Genuinely good chapter after a long while, hands down. Minor stuff to bitch about is that the Giant Baby who gave birth to the one that just exploded casually disappeared without a trace (Might have missed it). If anything, it should've fallen into nerve control together with the floor it was sitting on during this chapter around.
-
Well, anyway, the hand just implied that what most of us were thinking is true, and that Shinigami and Quincy have, more or less, the same origin, or something.
But was the hand alone Quincy and the SK was partly Quincy or was the SK full Quincy? In both cases, Mayuri still tortured and experimented on a bunch of Quincies, so what gives? SK didn't care?
-
Now, the revelation of Nemu's real name. . .should I go "omg omg omg omg" or should I be left completely unfazed, as I am right now? I found it to be more an unexpected acknowledgement of her personhood. Calling her by her full name implies that she might be more than just a toy to be used for his whims.
-
A tear almost fell from my eye when Mayuri said she could only die when he ordered her. Mayuri, you soft bastard, you.
-
And two more Arm-severings are added to the list. Is anyone keeping track of the final tally?
This fight is still fun. Did not expect Mayuri character development. Its always been the case, but more than ever, if you just sort of handwave and forget the despicably sadistic Soul Dr. Mengele shit he pulled in the beginning, he might just be the best Bleach chararacter.
