Sanji has done nothing in threat to the World Government to warrant a bounty higher than the one he has now. His current bounty is only for his involvement at Enies Lobby and possibly from knowledge of his particular victory over Jabra (though I find this latter point unlikely, since there were no real direct witnesses to any of the Straw Hats' fights). It's actually incredible that he even received 77 million as his first-time bounty. The Worst Generation is called as much because of the unprecedented level of danger and chaos they have brought on the world (the New World in particular). The label itself is an evolution of the former supernova label, which was given to the outstanding rookie pirates that conglomerated on Sabaody. The important thing here, though, is that the supernovae were only seen as such because of their bounty value. Zoro is only a part of the group because of his particular bounty; I would say he's not considered in the same light as any of the actual captains, though. Sanji, though not a big name, is a part of the Worst Generation simply by being in Luffy's crew. His lack of fame isn't because he's not amazing (which he is), but because he's simply not done anything to gather the notoriety that Luffy and Zoro have.
Chapter 796: The Soldiers Decision

Well Law was going to say the reason why he hid his full name in the flashback, he just got interrupted by Buffalo and Baby 5. His family may know some of the details pertaining to the will of D. But not the whole story. Maybe they just kept it secret to avoid any type of either persecution or judgment from WG. Perhaps they're the only D's that still have knowledge and their purpose was to pass down through the generations the history behind it until the time was right to reveal it. Or maybe Im just spouting nonsense lol
-
@uniaka:
All this talk about supernovas and Ds… Sanji sure got the shortend of the stick, not even a good bounty. And still don't see how he's not part of the worst generation when he will likely defeat admiral level enemies at the end and be at the top.
LOL I was actually hoping to see a kick fight between him and Kizaru… but I highly doubt it now.. with the way Oda has been treating him lately.. as the way things look at the moment, at best he would just keep them busy and stop them in their tracks(a la Rayleigh) which is by no means a small feat at all! even at EOS.
-
It's entirely possible, given the well-off and more educated conditions of Law's family, that they knew to keep the initial hidden. There's a higher chance of this kind of warning/tradition in the family being passed in this kind of social climate. As for what they knew, probably nothing besides to keep the name hidden. It's a little like how Cobra and his ancestors hid and protected the poneglyph in Alabasta for no other reason than knowing that it was supposed to be hidden.
-
At least Law inherited his father's will, healed the white disease and became a great doctor(if not the greatest). You can even call him a magical doctor.
-
But if he becomes the greatest then Choppers dream will be destroyed. .. maybe he is you know the magical doctor but man stuff like that is what makes me wonder, why give him that much hax if he's going to downgrade one of the main Strawhats! It makes it look like Chopper will be child's play next to Law.
-
A panacea isn't easily found and probably more important to Chopper than being called the "best" doctor.
Manshelly seems to have that power already though, poor Chopper…
-
lol Chopper sucks I'll trade him for Law anyday:ninja:
Seriously though, the ope ope is OP as F! you can't compete with that! from what we have seen I'm %100 sure that Law should be able to transfer DF abilities from a person to another! I mean he can switch souls! what else he can't? What reasons and what culture? Flevanece? North blue? Japanese?
It's an ancient Chinese custom that the Japanese also followed. Aohige explained it well in the Chapter 763 thread.
The family is not exactly hiding their names. Rather, it's forbidden/disrespectful for other people to call them by their real names (or something like that).
It's related to the concept of religious names.
-
Not convinced, because of all family names, we had to hide the most important one?

I don't like when one piece blindsides me with a cultural loophole. And if this is tradition, why only the waters, on a manga of 800+ characters had their full names hidden? Only other characters that had a "his name is this, but no is this!" were Gold Roger to Gol D Roger (goverment manipulation), Portgas D Ace to Gol D Ace (he changed it himself because reasons), Dragon to Monkey D Dragon (just partial reveal) and Garp to Monkey D Garp (offuscated on purpose). Of these only Roger's is a true whamy, as Ace didn't bother hidding the D, and as people we didn't know their names the Monkeys get a pass.
Again if he went as Law for the time he was at Doffy's family, and not once did he utter his full name untill the fated scene with Baby5 and Buffalo where Corazon not only revealed his secret to protect him but pleaded to keep the D hidden, but nope the translation clearly states that law shouldn't share this name with anybody.

Only the Water part is concealed because of the chinese "true name" thing.
In Law's own words: D is my "hidden name" and Water is my "True name"
http://bato.to/read/_/306462/one-piece_ch763_by_powermanga/17 (here it says taboo name but that's a mistranlation and the reason of aohige's post)so there is a reason beyond cultural loophole for the D to be hidden
-
True, thanks for rephrasing me. But, still, able to cure all diseases could be comparable to being the best doctor around. And yeah lately we havent seen any development on his doctoral skills

It's not Oda's fault that you don't know all aspects of Asian culture. It might sound weird for us, but probably not for the Japanese readers (and even more for the Chinese ones).
Also, Water is part of Law's own name, not something his entire family has. It's like a composite name.
He only shared this name because Buffalo and Baby 5 were pestering him about it.
-
Why is Law being a D. even a problem? There should be little doubt that he was always meant to be a D. if you consider Oda's precedent of placing incredible attention to detail and backstory in every single one of his characters. The crucial details of Law's past, like his lineage, were more than likely fixed by Oda since his introduction to the story. Oda didn't make Law a more important character because of his popularity– if anything the exact opposite is true.

Before the D. reveal he had usurped Zoro from his number 2 spot in the official polls, no character has ever managed to do that. Just some food for thought.
-
The polls happened around the same time that the flashback was published. The results can't have influenced any of the information presented in the flashback, especially given how many weeks in advance of publication Oda works on his chapters.
The usurpation of Zoro's popularity is because of the narrative itself. Since the Straw Hats' return to this day, Zoro has received absolutely no character development. Zoro, for all his new-found strength, is the same as ever. Compare that to the resurgence of Law, whose reintroduction has given readers a fresh personality with interesting goals, mannerisms, and combat skills. In the face of Zoro's staleness, Law is a breath of fresh air. What's more, Law is changing as his involvement with the Straw Hats goes longer.
-
Youre right on that one. Zoro as cool as he is, has lately become too stale. Just a one liner badass that deals with opponents in a quick way with no actual struggle ( although the training was just for that ) but I see no development on him or any other Mugiwara for that matter. Albeit Ussop on his haki. We need some crew interactions and have them grow more. Yes, we have seen bits and part but hopefully in the coming arcs we'll get to see more. This is just a warm up for Mugiwaras its barely the start of the NW. I cant wait to see the chaos to be unfolded.

Chapter 763 was published in October 11, however, we know Oda is usually three weeks ahead of the publishing schedule, meaning that Chapter 763 should have been ready in mid-to-late September, just a month after the poll was announced. The poll results were published around 2 months later after the chapter too.
Take in account all the planning he had to do before writing the chapter (like a reason for Rosinante to start talking to Law and the whole D is the enemy of the Celestial Dragons background), and it just seems unlikely that the D was put in there in a whim.
-

He uses a Doffy inspired Jolly Roger and named his crew the Heart pirates. Oda knew Law's future (and past) long before he appeared in print, let alone a popularity poll.
-

You know, if you ignore his entire fight with Pica, which was all about how a clever fighter can use his abilities to accomplish his goals while holding off an opponent they can't beat (which was only foiled by Zoro with the help of Orlumbus and Elizabello II). Pica was so in control of most of that fight that when he showed up after Diamante was defeated, Robin was like "I thought Zoro was fighting this guy"; the struggle was for Zoro to figure out how to prevent him from doing basically whatever he wanted, not to survive fighting him - it's not like he was the head of the battle brigade, anyhow.
The whole struggle was Zoro vs someone who forces him to use his head, not Zoro vs someone who pushes him to his physical limits.
-

It's not Doffy-inspired though. The Smile is a popular style of Jolly Roger and its popularity hasn't been specifically linked to Doflamingo.
Oda probably did have a lot of Law's story planned out, at least by the timeskip.

As stale as Zoro (and all the Straw Hats, really) feels for the moment, I wouldn't really have it any other way because of what you point out: as many years as we are into the New World's publication, the actual story events so far are just a few days for the Straw Hats. I like the kind of victory streak, we-can-beat-all aura that the Straw Hats have had since their reunion. It shows that the amount of time they stayed apart was worth the payoff. Sadly, as much sense as this makes, the fact that the story takes so long to unfold in real-time makes it feel like ages since the Straw Hats have last been actively involved as characters in the story.
Interesting to note, too, is how since the reunion the story has become much less about the Straw Hats themselves and more about their impact on others. Even the agency of the story, once in control of Luffy, suddenly feels like it's out of his control. Law's influence on the story has taken over completely; he's very much been the protagonist in the New World. Where before Luffy chose where to go and what to do, this is the first time in the story where the Straw Hats are following somebody else's plans and decisions. The Straw Hats never had a say in the details of Law's plan, Law was the one who said to go to Dressrosa, etc.

Actually, it was said to be popular in the North Blue, which also had the Doula Mongo-inspired Bellamy Pirates (as well as the Donquixote Pirates themselves). With that in mind, it's not hard to make some sort of guess that Doula had some influence there.

Which is good that it focuses on the whole world aside from themselves. It is time we do get focus on OP world as a whole. Itll flesh out allies, enemies and such which its good story wise. But unfortunately for fanboys ( in which I included myself lol ) its not enough. Although Im in the middle of the line, because I like the StrawHats development and others involvement but i want to see them EXPAND! Just like they are now. Reason why I don't complain as much, I enjoy it for what it is. ( on a side note, its the first time I start involving myself in the AP Forums community on which I always wanted to but was scared of being singled out for my lack of coherence. I really do try but just usually lurk around. Appreciate that some members are replying back ^-^ )

Oh, it's certainly possible. Bellamy even called Doflamingo the pride of North Blue, so he probably influenced quite a few pirates.
We just don't know that Doflamingo was the origin of the symbol, or that Law was directly inspired by Doffy rather than just the symbol's popularity.
-
How did Doflamingo accomplish that infamy in north blue?Ten yasha, heavenly demon, Donxiote family; along with what happened with his family on that island, should'nt the pirates have attempted what those civilians did? A Celestial dragon pirate, or did the pirates of the past simply lack balls, letting such information fade in the dark. Is the celestial families apart from Nefatari not well known?

I doubt there families are well known. Akainu or Sengoku never mentioned how he shared the family name of a celestial dragon. So I think who is a celestial is not possible to know from name alone.

Although you are right on that one and I missed that one entirely, and it is good to see him struggle mentally but I want to see him struggle physically! A challenge
I thought it was nice to see someone who wasn't as strong as Zoro take advantage of his weakness when it comes to thinking, and attempt to accomplish their own goals while simply distracting him - it's not like the fights we saw him in pre-timeskip, but I think it's good to establish that he can win fights which are about more than just raw power, whereas historically that's what his fights have generally been about.
That being said, now that we've seen this growth from him, I'd like to see another drag-out knock-down to-the-verge-of-death fight for Zoro; I just don't have any problem with what was done for Dressrosa, because I think it's a positive development for the story as a whole, even if I'm personally a bit impatient to see him pushed to his limits by a foe.

I imagine someone in Wa no Kuni would give him a good fight.

In a few decades when I'm senile, maybe.
It was decent given how much build up for future arcs it had.

That's a very good way to put it and something I didn't realize until a couple weeks ago (around the time this chapter came out and I'd just reread Zoro vs Pica). You summed it up perfectly!

While I agree some, once they got into Dressrosa it was all Luffy. Hell, it almost fell apart in Punk Hazard due to Luffy wanting to beat up Ceaser and send him flying. In Dressrosa Law kept being asked by Doffy about Luffy's actions and Law kept not knowing, as he felt the alliance was long over. Hell, he wanted Kaido to beat Doffy for him. When that failed, he also failed to beat Doffy himself. It came down to Luffy. Law didn't know about operation SOP. Alot of what Luffy and everyone else did was beyond what Law had planned for.
-
Good point. The Straw Hats definitely veered way off Law's intentions. Yet, there's definitely something weird about the Straw Hats, for the first time, actively looking to sabotage another pirate.
Before, the Straw Hats would just travel to whatever island came next, learned of some local trouble, and only then acted against the island villain. In this case, though, they not only actively decided to go to Dressrosa, they went with the sole intention of causing trouble; the locals' tragic history came later.
-
It was decent given how much build up for future arcs it had.
That's the only saving grace for me. Cool, we saved a lot of time with Luffy gathering shitload of allies all in one place. Now on to some other arcs, and hopefully, we won't have to twist our minds in order to make them look good.
-

Wasn't that the case with Crocodile and Arlong?
-
I meant as an initial goal. In going after Nami, their goal was just to retrieve Nami. Only after they learned of her situation did they go after Arlong. You do have a point that Luffy was clearly aiming for a fight with Crocodile from the get-go, but the Straw Hats generally just wanted to stop mass conflict; they even try to simply stop the rebels Vivi's way without fighting first.
What I'm really getting at is that the Straw Hats don't generally pick fights. They've always been reactionary until suddenly Luffy decided to pick fights in the New World with the yonko, Doflamingo, etc. unprovoked.

Which goes to my main point. Luffy looks like he's thinking outside the usual box. He's looking to fight all Yonkous whether as before he just wanted adventure and now he wants to take action. Looks like the timeskip gave him a bit more "maturity" and Im glad because he wants to make a name for himself (although he already did indirectly ). Straw hats look like they want big action and Im looking forward to it. Luffy never directly picked fights and although Law was the one who pointed out Doffy and Kaido, he went along with it. Meaning hes using some sense into it. He has to grow up into putting his place in the NW and hes doing it. New allies, fighting enemies and such. Im just worried about the Swirly hats because lately they havent done much and being separate from their captain doesnt necessary help them much. If they establish a force and a name for themselves then its good cause it proves Stawhats strength and proves that theyre a powerful force to deal with ( even thou we as readers we know they are )
-
Wasn't that the case with Crocodile and Arlong?
Not in the same way that they're looking to sabotage Kaido's operation by stopping his SMILE supply at the source.
The SH's actively foiled Croc/Arlongs plans and what not, but they basically went straight for the head of the snake to do so.
There wasn't any tactical weakening involved.
-
Does Luffy now "going after" people show maturity or more so what is required for his ultimate goal. For the first half of the Grand-Line it's all about trying to get towards the end of the first half. For the second half it's about getting to the second half… EXCEPT in the second half Luffy's goal is directly impeded by others hunting for One Piece and the Yonkou. Luffy could have not fought Crocodile and avoided the conflict at Marineford and still get to the New World (obviously he wouldn't have left Vivi and Ace to their own fate if he could even try to stop it). He can't become Pirate King without directly opposing Yonkou and their subordinates, Law said you either fight or join the Yonkou it's not like that in the first half of the grand line. He has no choice if he wants to be Pirate King which he will do by going to Raftel and finding One Piece which means he MUST oppose those who would not allow it. Luffy said he planned on taking down all the Yonkou, Luffy's maturity is more on how he realizes he can't relax and be comfortable or his friends will die. He still is the immature do whatever I want and don't give a fuck about what happens character. He brought Law into his pace, his real inclination to beat Doflamingo came from Rebecca.

Maybe maturity wasn't the right word (English is not my first tongue so I struggle with the phrasing, like I said before, my coherence ain't that good either, I just type what comes to mind) but if not, maybe shows his growth into wanting to be the PK like you said. And yes he wants to protect his nakama and everything, but he has to establish an alliance over the whole sea which he already is, going to what I wanted to portray, he grew in mind ( I don't know how else to express it, crecio en mentalidad para aquellos que entienden Español ) so he's thinking more of just himself and like he said, he trusts his nakama to take care of themselves, he knows and believes that they can take care of their own which is why he made the decision of 3D2Y. So each could hold their own and grow. Even the Mugiwaras said it themselves that they want to protect their captain rather than him protecting them.

If you get a polmonitis, Chopper would heal you with antibiotics, Law would make a lung transplantation instead. Not arguing for the sake of arguing, but Law did say he was a doctor when he asked Buggy to give him Luffy and Jinbe at the war. He also recently said that to Cavendish. His dad was a doctor too. In One Piece I think the word doctor means they can do anything medical related, even pharmacological stuff. I mean look at Dr. Kuriha, even Chopper, he does broken bones and deep cuts, impales lol unless he just put some bandages on them I presume he does some kind of operations before sealing the wounds.

They're both doctors, yes, but they obviously specialize in/drift towards certain areas.
Basically Law is Surgical and Chopper is Medical.
To put it in terms from scrubs.

Chopper is JD and Law is Turk.

Is Kureha Cox or Kelso?
-
That makes hiriluk the janitor?
-
Kureha is Cox.
Hiriluk is Doug.
-
But Doug didn't teach JD a thing, and if someone is going to blow himself up to prove a point is the janitor.
-
Doug gave us a lot of emotional insight and caused more harm than he did help in terms of medical application.
Classic Hiruluk.
