Ahhhh, wtf. I know this was in the manga, but I didn't think they would animate it to such a degree.
Shit, I've been recommending this to a ton of people without actually watching it.

Soma continues to "aw shucks" himself through this.
More tension please.

I love that overly enthusiastic, trolly grin of his.

Actually looks interesting. Pity the spoiler pic was such a troll.
Quoted for reference @Luxor:
! I just came back from marathoning Sidonia season 2 and reading some of the manga, where things were adapted out of order but still retained almost everything. I suspect the Shokugeki anime is taking the same approach, maybe streamlining the whole camp–>election buildup-->election sequence.
! Maybe they're putting the autumn election's first mention (along with the dad's cooking contest) earlier so first-time viewers can know where the karaage arc stands in the overall narrative? Plus, the whole lesson Souma gets from his dad kinda fits in with the way the karaage arc focuses on convenience for the customers. I expect them to start the karaage arc after this cooking contest, then head into the first third or half of the autumn elections. Remember, it's a gigantic 66-chapter arc, and each Shokugeki episode has generally covered ~2 chapters at most.
And just like we speculated,
! the Shokugeki anime is going into the karaage arc after the cooking battle with Souma's dad! I really liked this arc, so I was incredibly happy at the end of episode 16. I think we can already understand why the anime staff decided to move things around, and it certainly makes more sense for the overall flow.
Whatever it is, they'd better not skip the Karaage arc, or I'll kill em'.
don't worry, the karaage arc starts next week!
Casanova Scans released their scan of the chapter.

Huh. I didn't expect them to actually keep changing the dish as well. I'm kinda hoping this arc isn't supposed to be long though. I'm only vaguely interested in this little contest. It's kinda lacking something…But I'm not sure what.
Megumi is adorable.

Personally, I find this arc just lack fun overall. The training camp arc was also a 5 days event but it was a fun arc. We get introduction to the Aldini twins, Alice & Ryo, and the alumni. We got development for some of the characters and there were some fun banter among the characters. Plus we get to see some of the characters cooking.
This arc seem to be about Soma and his plan to defeat Kuga. We know Takumi and Nikumi ranked first and third in the main street area for the first day. But we vaguely know what their dishes are and we don't know their results for the 2nd and 3rd day. We know the elite ten are doing well in the uptown area but we don't know anything about their booth. Erina is in 2nd but we don't know what is her menu. While we do get spotlight on Alice, Hayama and Ryo, we don't really get to see what they up to. We know they end up in deficit and they are working on it. That's all. We don't even get to see the main street area, central area and uptown area in more detail. We know the Polar Star Dorm open an imonikai booth. That's all.
It kinda seem like any details aside from Soma and Kuga's duel get mentioned in passing. It's a school festival yet it doesn't seem very fun at all.
Tootsuki's ranger was probably the most entertaining thing for me in this chapter. There are other events in the festival!
I also care very little for Soma and Kuga deal. I'm more interested in what Kuga's deal with Tsukasa and why Eizan & 2ns seat are conspicuous missing.
For me I think this arc is getting padded out in an odd manner. I suppose you could say Soma is trying out new strategies, or is changing up his plans, but to me it feels like we're getting several dramatic reveals that amount to nothing. Since Soma's always demolished the moment he tries something new, it actually feels weird for nothing to have changed. Normally Shokugeki no Soma had rather short arcs, so the week by week Cliffhanger + Reveals has always been wrapped up briskly.
Now it just follows up the reveal by saying "Nope, that's not enough to beat Kuga," and Soma's like "Wait, I still have another trick" and this just rinses and repeats. I believe this is the third time already.
So whose hand was it??!!!
No comment on how we got another "REKT" moment from Soma?
That '10 years more experience' thing.
Kuga looked so pissed, and it was awesome.
He can dish smack talk out, but can't take it himself.
To me this is an interesting arc (even more than the previous ones). It's the first one in which we see the elite ten and the story get a convenient new set up in making all the first generation focuses on reaching or closing the gap between them and the elite ten. (Otherwise we still would have the duel after duel scheme between the first generation which would be tiresome given that the most interesting duels already happened in the tourney arc). And Kuga is really good character: this page makes me want to see how someone will make him eat his sardonic smile.
Soma's smug prick face is getting smugger each time.
I think this is the series that has finally made me realize that I have grown out of anime.
But not enough for me to bitch about it to random people on the internet.
About Goddamn time. :ninja:

There's not many manga I watch nowadays, but Soma is actually one of the few I partake in. It's fun and amusing.

I too tend to avoid anime adaptations of manga I already read. There were only a few series that I've read then watched, and Shokugeki is one of them. And I agree, definitely fun and amusing. Only other series I can remember doing that for are Aria, FMA, HxH, Railgun (in the reverse direction), and Sidonia (also anime to manga). Everything is one or the other–-I guess it's too repetitive for most series imo.
Chapter 129 spoiler
! The mysterious person is Subaru. The key is for Yukihira restaurant.
Megumi was indeed adorable in this chapter (128).

So what chapter do you guys think the anime will end at?
I'm guessing 60, skipping the last part with Isshiki.

Casanova's scan of 129 is up.
The strongest Tag Team is born.
Subaru's "10 years experience" mimicry made me laugh out loud.
Been a while since a manga page has done that, that was very well played.
Here you can read it in the scalator's site: http://casanovascans.com/read/shokugeki_no_soma/en/0/129/page/1
Yep.
I always prefer to read on mangahere because of the tsukkomis though lol.
We now know where are every named first year student from the fall classic.
Soma's team, Alice's team, Erina's team, the aldinis have the top 9 plus fat aldini, polar star supporting cast, the creepy girl and nikumi.
Did I forget anyone?
I am feeling sad for the hungry little girl.
Nice! Glad Mimasaka showed up as we predicted. He's basically the perfect line cook. Soma's dish seems kinda ridiculous and complicated but I'd definitely try it!
Subaru will be an awesome sous chef. Nice to see him back.
Subaru is the man. Epic comeback. Absolutely loved this chapter.
I FINALLY FOUND OUT WHO THAT HAND BELONGED TO.
But wasn't that hand too delicate for Subaru? Maybe his mimicking skills helped out here.
Subaru's hands are the same as a maiden's.
I guess I was right when I said Soma made a deal with a demon.
I'm so glad it was Subaru in the end, The ultimate tag team! He seems like the perfect partner.
Subaru's only problem is that he's obviously further behind in creating his own cooking style than Soma who has just lived in his Dad's shadow.
BTW, Vietnamese Lion Head Soup

I was reading the newest chapters of Addicted to Curry and i noticed something. Maybe this has been featured in cooking mangas before but it seems like Addicted to Curry might have inspired the foodgasms in SnS, though the latter takes it much further and has moved away from the ecchi to the hilarious.

It's more like the concept of Gourmet Manga is a pretty distinct genre and nothing new at all
I always thought the Shaiapouf and Menthuthuyoupi feeding Meruem had contributed significantly to the foodgasm.
Toriko would be the non-erotic version then.

Not really sure what series it started with but they pretty much seem to be a staple of cooking battle manga at this point. For instance I know Yakitate! Japan has some pretty ridiculous/hilarious foodgasms as well.
