If I remember correctly, in the aftermath of Marineford someone mentioned the race to become the next Yonkou, with Blackbeard as the leading contender. It was a combination of him claiming credit for Whitebeard's death and his knowledge of Whitebeard's former territories enabling him to claim them with some ease.

So, if Luffy were to defeat Kaido he wouldn't automatically take the spot but he would likely be considered a heavy favorite for it, especially if assorted countries of the Grand Line start flying the Strawhat banner. Fishman Island has already decided to do so and if Dressrosa (stupidly) decides to break away from the WG I wouldn't be surprised to see them follow suit.

Well it seems like we're not getting a breather arc here. I hope Zou isn't going to be another big thing like it's seemingly is with the newest chapter. I really want a sillier or shorter arc before we go any further.

yeah so with Luffy being connected to the rev army I think it would make more sense for them to remain allies. I agree i think his next goal will be something against the WG

These comparisons have been made for years and years and years. It's probably true considering it's Zoro's end goal but we just don't know if it's that clear cut. I say that because it makes Mihawk seem worthy of being an Emperor himself. Of course there are all kinds of factors that go into it.

he see's similarities in luffy with his former captain. As to what his motives might be, could be something as simple as to give him that push and watch him do what his captain could'nt do to something more sinisterly calculated. If luffy according to Crocus is the guy the crew has been waiting for, the guy Roger is waiting like Whitebeard expressed it. Shanks is eigher waiting along with the informed crewmates of Roger or he is waiting as a result of that knowledge which Buggy seems to lack for luffy to do something he might get benefit from. Which he himself is unable to do.
I ponder on how much time Roger spent with Rouge. Did he as soon as breaking up his crew go to her, or did he do something else, something to do with that treasure he left behind. The guy who was going to tell whitebeard the location of his treasure, did he already disband his crew? And after spending a year at Luffy's place which words of Roger did luffy use?

As to blackbeard, you interpreted Shanks chat with Whitebeard as his desire to kill Blackbeard? If that was the case why not just go for blackbeard, himself? Whitebeard 2 division commander was chasing the guy to the extent that big timers such as A yonko Shanks heard about it. There would be no retaliation from whitebeard, what stopped Shanks?

Shanks showed at Whithebeard to avoid Ace's death(Luffy big bro). He let Blackbeard alione for the entire manga. Why believe he wants to kill him?

He has been waiting for Luffy because Luffy promised him he would become a great pirate and they would meet at that time. Nothing points at him wnating to intervene in his journey.

At what point during that meeting did Shanks give any indication that killing Blackbeard is one of his goals?

The only thing that could really be taken from it is that Shanks considers Blackbeard to be dangerous.

They had an excellent chance to do so at Marineford, but Blackbeard didn't seem particularly confident of victory and walked.

If Shanks really did want to kill Blackbeard, he wouldn't have let him escape as easily as he did.

His goal at the time was to stop the war. If they would have fought BB right there, the marines would have continued pursuing Luffy and WB pirates. Or even used that chance to take down another Yonko.

Indeed, Shanks had a clear goal that he stated when he arrived at Marineford, as opposed to your theory that one of his major goals is to kill Teach.

I'm not entirely ruling it out, I'm just pointing out that we've never had any indication from Shanks that he plans to kill Teach, even in a situation where that logically would have been referenced.

He did say during his talk with Whitebeard that he had received countless wounds and scars in numerous battles and said that the scar which still hurts him the most (likely talking about his pride) is the scar he received from Blackbeard. I'm sure he'll want to get even at some given point. An eye for an eye.

I think he was talking metaphorically about that scar paining him the most at that point ie at that time he was worried about Teach and Ace's pursuit of him.

The scar being a constant reminder of just how dangerous Teach is.

At that point it was all a wild goose chase, no one really knew of Teach's whereabouts. It's easier to get even with someone when you're on your own without having to worry about the crew's safety and getting them all involved in personal matters. He does say in that same chat with WB that he wasn't being careless or anything when he received that scar. So it wasn't a surprise attack, Teach actually did a number on him fair and square so I'm sure you're right that he's not the type to hold grudges, but for a battle scar that is displayed for anyone to see when they meet Shanks it's only reasonable to think he's not going to let it slide and will want to even the score, in their next battle. Blackbeard does say to his crew that they're not ready to face his just "yet" at Marineford. Decent foreshadowing I would say. A lot of people believe this will be Shanks' demise because Blackbeard can't exactly lose if he's the final villain. But I agree, if he was really hell bent on defeating Blackbeard he would have done so already.

All the Straw Hats have a number associated with them according to the order they join, but the numbered chapters count them as the number of nakama that Luffy has gathered. So usually, Luffy is 1, Zoro is 2, Nami is 3, …, Brook is 9 (see chapter 726 color spread), but yes, for the chapters, Zoro is first, Nami second, etc. So if Jinbe is next to join, he'd be 10/ninth. :S

After this most recent chapter, I feel that this arc is starting to set precedence for how the New World stuff will work.

First of all, take away a number of the established beliefs set in the Grandline. Especially by the end of the Grandline part with the war, we had established hierarchy of stuff. Admirals and Yonko were almost untouchable, especially by the straw hats and supernovas. The shikibukai were strong, but nowhere close to the level of Admiral/Yonko. Logias were some of the most troublesome users to fight. And so on and so forth. With Luffy ready to not run away from an Admiral, it's time to establish how far away he is now. While he isn't ready to beat one (going by where we are in the story), we need to establish how far he has to go. This will give us a baseline, but at this point we can't definitely say anything about how any confrontation will go based on titles at this time.

Second is with Yonkos being the focus, and with this last arc, there is going to be a change in how arcs are done. Before, the antagonists were trying to reach a goal, whether it be taking over a kingdom or getting blue prints. At this time, the powers have been established and are waiting for the right time for their plans. That means the arcs going forward for now are going to be with the antagonists being on the defensive, and trying to retain their position, just like Doflamingo was trying to keep his kingdom and business.

Last but the biggest is going to be how things will change at any time. Dressrosa definitely set a precedent for this, as things were constantly changing. Law had a plan, Doflamingo countered it. Some characters out of his control change the situation, allowing things to go against him. Usopp has a bunch of new allies, but many suddenly turn on him. The biggest instance is the KHA alliance, where they want to go after Shanks, then Kaido just appears out of no where. We could go further back and show when the Supernovas entered the New World, where all the random stuff just happened. Basically, things are going to keep changing, and predicting the flow of stuff is going to be much harder in certain aspects.

Burgess was the first to appear, and on its own or compared to Sabo or whatever, to the readers he was quite weak. Then, the more we go on, we will meet other BB pirates more and more threatening to give a sense of progression and believability.

We don't know who's going to be the next, but it should be stronger (no not the horse), to impose a bigger threat than Burgess, and at the same time share more info on what's going on with them (just like how Burgess mentioned Kuzan with them). Whoever it will be, without Sabo around it should be better anyway, and if Burgess will get a df to redeem him and take on Sabo better next time, then i'm ok with it.

It's imposible that Burguess takes out Doflamingo, Doflamingo is being custodied by an old fleet admiral, three Viceadmirals and an admiral.
I don't think Burgess was shown to demonstrate how weak he is, was shown to demonstrate how strong Sabo is.

I'm anxious to see Kuzan as pirate (for sure is a spy) but Blackbeard is smart he will ask Kuzan to demonstrate his loyalty by killing someone important.

but did the yonkou exist when roger was alive or is it an intermediate thing for as long there is no pirate king? can someone be yonkou and pirate king at the same time? does yonkou mean that you have given up on the treasure and you just conquer and loot to just obtain power and riches? can a yonkou search for the one piece? and if yes, why is it so hard to find? :P

From what we've seen and know, Yonkou seems to just be a natural product of the power hole that came from Roger's death. Four pirates reached that power level, but none either went for One Piece or stands out from the other three. So really to define the Pirate King you have to be two things: The strongest and attained of One Piece.

The power map should be something like marine influence in small area at the beginning, then big mom medium territory, then kaido medium territory, whithebeards large territory, split between his remnants Blackbeard and the others after his death, and shanks near the end, with few party islands around here and there.

Honestly, I did want to see Luffy take on the world with such a small pirate crew, but I guess that's more unrealistic in the new world than it is for anyone to actually be killed by the Buster Call on Enies Lobby. I will say that I do like how Luffy comes across so much fortune just by doing what he wants.

That's a high possibility.

Kaido finds out that the SH's defeated his business partner Joker, ruining his big plan.
The treasure that Luffy gave Bg Mom explodes at her tea party.
Both Emperors orders their crew to go after the SH's. So a three way conflict might happen.

Kaido's going to be finding out about Shirahoshi being Poseidon pretty soon as well, most likely, thanks to Drake delivering Caribou to him.

So add that into the mix and yeah, seems like the pot will boil over into some kind of multi emperor conflict.

Luffy will destroy it so the merfolk can live closer to the sun over the ocean. That's what Noah and the sea kings are for. An evacuation System. Joy Boy promised sth like the merfolk could live on the surface but couldn't Keep the promise for unknown reason (he and his kngdom may have been annihilated by the newborn WG's 20 founder kings).
I do like the idea of a Multi emperor conflict. BM is arleady pissed and will be even more pissed if the bomb is ruining her tea Party and Kaidou lost Joker. The best Thing there is: Law doesn't have a clue between Luffy and BigMom!
Right now he thinks Kaidou is their only Problem. Imagine his face when he finds out there is another Yonkou hunting them…

I think that's the exact and best reason for its destruction but I too wonder about the physical location and what it means for travelers. The place could be in ruins with no tourist spots but the hole in the red line could continue to exist for travelers.

Like I mentioned in some other thread I feel like Kaido and Big Mom will fight over Fishman Island and Shirahoshi. I could see Luffy deciding to destroy the place by killing that Eve Tree if he can't physically bring the place to ruin or popping that bubble.

Though the actual integration of the fish folk seems like a Reverie type of thing which most speculate to come closer to the end of the series. I think the fish people could flee in Noah and just live there until an official mandate to the world is given.

I could see Water 7 becoming the floating city that Ice Berg intends as well as the ruins being completely reborn for fish folk as well as other races to enjoy. Ice Berg being raised by a Fishman and a Mermaid can only mean good things for future immigrants.

Whatever action that luffy takes on fishman island seem so villanous and not in his own way, but in a "enel level way" that I feel like its pointless to discuss it. The eve tree, only in its species, and the thing that actually formed the Bubble and the ecosystem, and who knows what else is connected to.

Probably the sea folk are there for some horrible reason, but until that one is revealed, I won't associate Luffy with the need for enel level destruction

Of course the hole will continue to excist. But the travelers need the time to resupply, obtain the new log pose, get the super floaty wood, and in case they came with a 3way log pose, time to set it.

We still have the CP0's, 7th unnamed Shichibukai, Underground brokers, BB pirates and the final war.
The pirate alliance saga will probably cover at least 4 more islands, involving Kaido and BM pirates.

Shanks, Black Beard, the void century and the revolutionaries could probably take up 10 years all on their own. Maybe not a big Kaido VS Luffy VS Big Mom battle royal but for years now we've seen how both are getting hugely intertwined in the main story.

Also we have yet to see an admiral or any marines for that matter play the role of main antagonist in the New World. I think Ryokugyu will make a great antagonist especially if his ideals are similar to Akianu's. Also we are not sure what the WG has up their sleeves in relation to SH's. Sure they could send the CP0 after the SH's, but is that their most powerful force they can send after them? Only time will tell.
