Good chapter. Looking forward to the next.
Chapter 794: Sabo's Adventure
-
-
It seems like the battles are all going to happen simultaneously, with the StrawHearts against Kaido and KHA against Shanks. Big Mom might get stuck in the mix when they get to Wano, but who knows.
Law's dream was to kill him, not send him to jail.

I expect chapter 800 will be totally devoted to the flashy genius.

Nice, nice, i suspect he will give the yonko and Akainu something to think about.
-
I think chapter 800 will introduce 7th warlord and I think he is future villain in the next arcs(2).

Ouuhh noo plss nooou, enough with the shichibukai already, I'm going with Yonko or nothing.

Is it even a general rule that every 100th chapter have some out of the ordinary theme? With Naruto the 700th chapter was obviously important, but I can't remember Oda doing that type of thing in general.

Yeah, another Schischi villain wouldn't be too fun. I say Kaidou or his underlings,
or Big Mom. -
hey i am reading the cnet translation on mangahelpers
"Flashback!Sabo: Is it okay if I… / ...eat the Mera Mera no Mi?
Flashback!Luffy: ! // …............!! // Yeah!!! You should have it!!! // You’re the only one who should have it!!!"
i did not read anywhere before about this answer from Luffy"Sabo: I’ve seen his face now…...!! // Here...this is Luffy’s Vivre Card. / I took the liberty of making it."
huh Sabo was able to make a vivre card but how? -
Why wouldn't he? I'm assuming vivre cards are some kind of special paper and as long as you have one you can just make them, how did you think it was made?

Lola explanation about vivre cards was a long ago…But I seem To remember She said vivre card was made in a particular place

He made it in advance. Easy.
Also, it's possible that Sabo does have the ability to make one by himself.

You mean he made a blank one in advance and then just registered it to Luffy somehow? You shouldn't be able to make one for someone else out of thin air and he wouldn't have had any mementos of Luffy's to use for it.
-
how..he did not see Luffy from ages And had no memories
Not in the last 2 years.

Go back to Goa, take memento there, make a card.
He had 2 years to do so.
-
I guess that's certainly possible. I think I just don't like the idea of a Vivre Card being made without the owner's concious participation, or at least their physical presence.
Wish Oda would tell us more about how they work.

Lola explained that you need the person's fingernails and that you need to take them to a shop in the New World. So either
a) Sabo found 12 years old Luffy's fingernails in Goa and went to a Vivre Card shop in the past two years or
b) he just trimmed Luffy's fingernails while he was sleeping and went to an open Vivre Card shop in Dressrosa just after this great tragedy which left Dressrosa in rubble (which probably means that the shop isn't currently open xD) or
c) this is a plot hole (omg, Oda made a mistake haha) -

Right, because it is so easy to get fingernails from some NW big player that you want to spy on. You just casually go and ask them: "Hi buddy, could you lend me some of your fingernails?" xD

Dragon could have helped too.

I doubt that because Lola specifically mentioned fingernails. If this were the case, she could've said that you need just some personal belongings or anything related to that person.

She could have just specified the particular way she does it.
Also, if there is shops that specializes in this stuff, then it's possible that there are people who can do it themselves.
Just like how anyone can buy clothes in a shop, but also make their own if they're skilled enough.
In fact, if there was only one shop doing that stuff, it wouldn't be as common as it is shown.

Like I said, I doubt that since she stated that as a fact and there was no ambiguity, foreshadowing or anything else to suggest that it is made from anything else other than fingernails. Everything else is just baseless speculation made in an effort to try and explain a potential plot hole. Besides, from what I remember there wasn't even time for Sabo to give to someone else to make the Vivre Card since he met Luffy because from what we have seen it's implied that after the battle they went straight to Kyros's house and Sabo is just now returning to his colleagues which means no one of his colleagues could've given him the newly made Vivre Card because they haven't met with him since the end of the Colosseum's final fight.
EDIT: Who said anything about there being only one Vivre Card shop? Hell, I even mentioned in the option B that a Vivre Card shop could be on Dressrosa.
-
Ouuhh noo plss nooou, enough with the shichibukai already, I'm going with Yonko or nothing.
After defeating a yonkou, a shichibukai might not be a threat anymore could be a problem for some.
He could be kind of a perfect breather for the story after the first yonkou went down.
Like not as strong, but his ability makes him still a challenge. -

We don't know how those things are made anyway, so we can't say if it's a plothole or not. Lola was vague about the process.
Also, there are plenty of ways the Revolutionaries could have obtained Luffy's fingernails. Dragon when Luffy was young, Ivankov & Inazuma…
-

I didn't say that it is a plot hole, I said that it's a potential plot hole which obviously Oda deemed small enough to be unworthy to further explain and I'm fine with that. And he even teased us for that through Zoro's line "When the heck did you manage to make it?".
Oh come on, you know how far-fetched that sounds. Yes, there are a bunch of ways to explain that, but not one of them seems realistic / good enough.
-
If my memory serves me right you can also make it from a person's hair too, if finger nails can do it why not hair? I think Shakky or Rayleigh spoke about it. You think The Dark King would got to a shop to make it? No matter how much he pays the shop owner, the marines would pay him 10x that at least for a piece. He obviously had someone who he trusts do it. It's not that far fetched or nearly even a plot hole candid.

Anyways we should get a new chapter this Thursday(or a day earlier) then there's a break next week. -
So…..
There is a break after Chapter 795?
We are surely doomed.

No Obon is in mid August, we get 2 chapters before we go on break again. So after 796

But Law doesn't call the shots, the alliance ends when Luffy says so plus Law is now indebted to Luffy
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
16 characters of lol
Yeah, I'm curious too if Law ever really intended to go after Kaido or he just said that to bait Luffy. At this point, though, he and Luffy are kind of stuck together since Kaido will supposedly hold them responsible for ending his supply of Smiles. Even if he wasn't a target too, I could see him standing by Luffy's side out of debt and gratitude.
That said, Big Mom stills seems like the more urgent threat, or the Strawhats could fit in an entirely different adventure. I could see Luffy and Law temporarily parting ways for a while.
That's true, although Law was the one that agreed to the alliance ending once they have taken down Kaido. Law decided to leave early but Luffy denied.
But now that he's indebted to Luffy, it might change.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Not only that, Shanks isn't going to be sitting back watching.
Oda's put the KHA alliance against him.
You guys must be catching Sabo's amnesia. Luffy was indebted to Law after Marineford. And of course there's that stupid broken Ope-Ope power of granting eternal life to be considered for the future. Recall, too, that Jinbei is also still indebted to him. Speaking of, hopefully he appears again soon. He might be the next nakama.
If anything they're even, although Law did watch Luffy's back, again, while Luffy was taking his 5 minute nap. I'm still wondering how Law managed to get away without Cavendish noticing him gone until it was too late.

Hum.. Aren't we always get the new chapter 1 week earlier than the official release?

Law, Luffy, and Jinbe are all the type of person who would generally dismiss those sort of powerful, personal debts owed to them. Well, maybe Law might call it in, but only if he really needed to play dirty. Besides, I'm pretty sure defeating his childhood tormentor and most hated person is valued well above saving another's life in Law's mind.
But like I said, there are plenty of other reasons for them to need to keep working together.

That post you quoted was a joke, simply stemming from something Luffy said to Law when Law tried to disband the alliance and was told he doesn't get to decide. Anyway, since we're on the subject matter saying Law had his back for 5 minutes while he napped is hilarious, there are so many instances during that fight where Law was down for the count and Luffy had his back, at times he was bleeding out, at times his head was going to get squished, so if you want to put the number of instances they save each other's lives in a fight with Doffy in numerical form, I can assure you Luffy is ahead. Not that any of it matters since I doubt the pair would be keeping tally of such things, they have respect for one another and it's why their teamwork works, if one started thinking the other is beneath them then they may as well just be the other's underling.
-
Hum.. Aren't we always get the new chapter 1 week earlier than the official release?
Obon starts August 15th, the official release for 795 is August 3rd (scanlations on July 30), the official release for 796 is August 10th (scanlations on August 6th). So we get 2 chapters before the break.
-
Prediction for the next 2 chapters:
Flashback starts
Straw hats fight Pekoms and Tamago, but they are overwhelmed and pushed back.
*Flashception part 2!( as in a flaskback in another flashback, like it was with law and DD).
A dragon shaped ship arrives at Ivankov's island. All okamas stop following Sanji, Ivankov calls them to greet the 'leader'.
Sanji remembers something about the most wanted man in the world. He goes there and asks him to train him.
Flasback ends
Back to big mom pirates: Sanji uses 'Dragon foot' coated in CoA. Break next week.
You saw it here first.

That name is uninspired, isn't French, has no relation to food. Come up with a better name, also something that isn't "Dragon…" Sanji isn't Dragon's protégé, he's Red Leg Zeff's.

No. But maybe you can get DNA samples of his naive stupid cabin boy that's always on his ship.
Roger had Buggy under his command after all. -
So, Sabo chapter. It seems I’m in the minority that didn’t mind the amnesia too much; Actually, I thought Sabos grief was the most memorable moment in an fine, though somewhat redundant chapter.
My main problem is just that I don’t really care about Sabo all that much…or rather, I don’t care about the route Oda chose to go with him. As Zoro said: ”You sound just like Ace!”…only we already had an Ace, and it goes way beyond just sounding like him to me.- The Straw Hats have arrived in a new sea, and are paid a visit by Luffys big brother. While Luffy and his gang are relatively new on the scene, the brother is portrayed as a seasoned veteran.
- In fact, the brother is such a veteran, that he’s a top-ranked officer for the most [blank] man in the world!
- The visit is based upon the initiative of the big brother, letting Luffy (and the readers) be surprised, and again putting Big Brother in the dominant, in control, cool position. Big Bro is there on his own business, and leaves it up to Luffy to stop the arc villain and save the day.
- Big Bro gets to save Luffy from a close call. Big brother is portrayed as clearly stronger than Luffy, someone to be “caught up” to.
- In the end, Big bro tells the crew to “take care of my brother!”, gives them a Vivre card, and leaves.
- Oh, and theres some cool two-page spreads to show off Big Bro, and his awesomely powerful powers to get across how awesome and cool Big Bro is
I think that’s why I don’t mind the amnesia that much; sure its hokey, but it felt new, like it was Sabos own thing. Also he got to show powerful unrestrained emotion (which I would’ve loved to see at his reunion with Luffy, where he was kept in self-controlled cool Big Bro mode in contrast to Luffy).
And look, I know theres differences in Sabos and Aces characters, but that doesn’t mean that they haven’t been deployed in a highly similar way, to the point where Sabo seems pointless beyond retreading Aces ground. You can say that he’s an angle for exploring the revolutionaries, but theres’ already Dragon, Luffys friends Ivankov and Inazuma, and Robins two year stay with them for that.
I appreciate Oda trying to expand Sabos character a bit, but Original Ace is still by far the more endearing and entertaining character to me. Just look at his introduction in the Alabasta Diner, and his confrontation with Smoker: Ace comes across as cocky, polite, rude, goofy, surprised, happy, fallible and competent in no time at all. The Seriez Bizness tension of his initial face-off with Smoker is turned into a joke; before we get to see Ace do anything cool, we’ve already seen what an endearing klutz he is.
Sabo had Koala pull on his face once, and now his the Hangs-Up-Phone-early bit, but has otherwise been kept in Competent Cool Big Bro with One Liners mode almost the entire time. I can't say I'm gonna miss him.At any rate, now that we’ve had Marine Business, World Reactions and Sabo spotlight, I hope we can get back to the arc-specific plot threads. 800 chapters in I’m starting to get pretty numb to Hype, but I’m still interested in seeing moments like Laws feelings about Doffys defeat, the dwarves reaction to having their princess back and being free from the factory/united witht their friends, Bellamys feelings about Doffys defeat, the Riku family being reunited after ten years, will Luffy ride around on Ucy again etc. I guess the “corrupted soul of Dressrosa” got handled with Gan Falls reinstation, but I’m still looking forward to the After Party.

well, some people indeed don't like Sabo, even hate him so much and think that Ace is better. I'm Ace and Sabo fan since their appearances in Luffy & His brothers past arc. And IMO since that time, I think Sabo and Ace characters are really different, Ace is so wild while Sabo is calm person (not so wild). Although both of them are indeed strong and always careless just like Luffy. I remember that I was really excited when reading the chapter that showed Sabo in Colosseum and met Luffy (I forget which chapter) and the chapter about Sabo eat Mera Mera no mi fruit and show Ace's Hiken technique.. for me it's really awesome chapter.. :D
And as Luffy big brothers, they are really nice. Ace treated Luffy hard and Sabo is the opposite. They care and love Luffy. -

Amnesia is fine. It is possible during such a horrific event that he has a problem with his memory as it doesn't want to remember the horrible things that have happened. Just because amnesia is used in a lot of stories, doesn't make it bad. Execution is most important, and certainly Oda did a good job here. The only other reason why it would be acceptable that Sabo didn't show up at the war is if he was in a mission for Dragon that took a while and there was no form of communication. I am with in regards to Ace being a far more memorable and interesting character though. I still like Sabo, but he doesn't compare to Ace with me.

There's some danger of Sabo becoming simply Ace 2.0, especially because, as you pointed out, they've filled very similar roles in their introductory arc. However, I have to disagree with you regarding their personalities, because Sabo feels significantly darker.
Part of what made Ace instantly popular was how he so clearly resembled a more mature Luffy. Though he frequently showed responsibility, he also acted very carefree and laid back most of the time. The two brothers even shared quirks, with Luffy reflecting narcolepsy really only around his family.
Sabo, on the other hand, is much more business oriented and shares fewer of those quirks with Luffy. He might flash moments of humor but in general he feels like a darker character. Seriously, just look at his face any time he's attacking someone. There's something a bit messed up inside his head. While both Sabo and Luffy obviously see each other as brothers, they lack the extended time together that made Luffy and Ace so similar. Instead, Sabo spent his youth in the care of the apparently more grim Dragon and exposed to the life-and-death struggle of the Revolutionaries on a daily basis, and that still weighs on him.
Sabo only feels so similar to Ace because Oda's been hitting us over the head with the comparisons, kind of like how Zoro pretended he was Mihawk for the first 60 chapters after the timeskip. It's a valid complaint if he's only a darker and edgier version of Ace to match a more serious second half of the story, but I think there are enough differences that Sabo's story will hopefully go in a different, more meaningful direction.

I figured that Oda had Sabo written in the story so he can kill Ace without losing the cool and likable big bro for Luffy. And I never had a problem with Sabo alot beeing like Ace.
-
I still think Sabo was going to exist from the start, but not as Luffy's brother. Just a really strong Revolutionary guy.
The problem lies on the tattoo though.

Since Silvers Rayleigh and Laboon, I believe in anything.

Not all cases can be measured with the same ruler, the "I lost my memory but I particulary remember this convenient part of the right thing the plot needs to keep me going on in the series" really felt like; guess how much of a last-minute character I am… Very very last-minute.

But then what about Ace's tattoo?

But then what about Ace's tattoo?
He's the only one between the three brothers who sailed with a jolly roger from the very beggining… Waaay too convenient.

@uniaka:
You saw it here first.
that would totally redeem sanji for being so weak in the new world, it doesnt even have to be being trained by dragon, he can just show some amazing new technique
