The anime's generally considered really good. Awesome music, animation. There are a few scenes skipped from the manga that might leave some character stuff unclear - a few scenes with Annie, plus the last few episodes are altered and have some filler, but it's not painful or glaring filler - at least I think so. You can watch the anime and then start from chapter 31 to see what the alternations are, it's just a few chapter difference from where it ends.

Chapter 70 Spoilers: (Not 100 % confirmed) / Source: MH and 4chan
! Nosebleeding Eren:
! - Hanji and Moblit are rejoicing about the hardened armor that Eren
leaves behind because they can make weapons with it.- Historia is visiting an orphanage, she's quite popular among the
population. Mikasa is jealous of her relationship with Eren (or at least
looks at her with scary eyes) - Jean's hair grew.
- Hitch and Marlowe joined the SL
- Something about the syringue
- Reiner and Bertolt being torn between saving Annie and following
Monkey Trouble. They follow him. - Anon-kun is monkey trouble.
! Monkey-Trouble? Anon-kun? Does that mean, we´ll get a Cliffhanger of a shadowed Figure, before Chapter 71 is about to reveal the identity of the Ape-Titan? Sounds great, I hope its true.
- Historia is visiting an orphanage, she's quite popular among the

! Thats the Ape Titan? Possible.Conspiracy theory! That's his father's brother! I'm pointing it out there!
-
Yeah, that guy looks like his father.
! Only the bit with the orphanage sounds kind of wierd, cliché kind of thing (though, makes sense considering Historia's past with family). The other stuff sounds really nice. About time we see Reiner/Bertholdt/Ymir. Could be fake or could be real.
There another source here with slightly different spoilers:

Sounds like a great chapter! Titan battles. Hope it's mostly real.
-
I think your Source is pretty reliable, Kizuchan. He/She posted some early Spoilers of the last 2 or 3 Chapters and they were real.
! So, the bad guys will attack again? That leads to some Epic stuff in the upcoming Chapters, near the Basement, IMO. + We had a little Timeskip.
I hope the Spoilers arent Fake.More Pics:

Chapter is out, on Mangapanda. Dat last four Pages. Ill write more soon. Very good Chapter.

So the Monkey Titan is a former Survey Corps member of a former soldier?
-
Gave in, too. This was a great chapter. The guy really does look like Eren's father and to make a point about it, there's even a zoom on his glasses. What is going on here. Also, Reiner being defeated like that was a massive oh shit moment. There is satisfaction in seeing all that progress, but also uncertainty beneath all that. Are the SL much better if they sent all those people into camps and allow Zackly do whatever he wants? Will there really be answers in the basement? The contrast between the new recruits and the Levi squad gives some uncertainty here, too. It's all very interesting, foreboding, but very exciting.
-
I don't understand how eren was able to see from the survey-guy's point of view. Or maybe i misinterpreted the view eren saw.
To tell the truth i don't quite understand the memories eren has been seeing, from whose point of view are they? -

To tell the truth i don't quite understand the memories eren has been seeing, from whose point of view are they? Some of them are from Eren's own perspective, some from his father's, some Historia's sister's Frieda's. It's pretty subtle foreshadowing.

-
Is "That Man" the guy from the First Chapter, who gave a Mother the lost Arm of her dead Son? Or is this the Instructor?
As Id said before, great Chapter. Historias idea, bringing the orphants to the Sunlight, giving them a Future and something to eat, is brilliant. Her future subjects wont forgive this and the dying out mankind needs a lot Children. We had a little Time Skip and Eren could train his new Ability. But its still a month to go, before they can close the hole near the mysterious Basement. Good to see alot new Survey Corps Members. They are confident, but the signed faces of the "Veterans" say everything.
The Flashback Sequenzes are totally deceptive. What exactly does the Instructor know? And Erens Uncle disembarked some heavy Fistattacks on Reiners Armor. Now they wait for them in Shiganshina.Epicness incoming … soon!
-
And I had always thought the ape titan would be a "true" titan, somehow representing the origin of the other titans and being the one who "controls" other titans with something reminiscent of a weaker "coordinate" ability. I'm also still curious why he takes on a different form than the regular titans, so mysteries remain to surround him. Also, the titan decapitator is pretty messed up and inefficient in my opinion.
-
Yeah, I kind of expected the Monkey Titan to be something else entirely, but I'm still very excited and curious where it's going. If you notice, the chapter is kind of a roller coaster in that there's obviously some lighthearted moments in there, but what's behind it all is extremely unnerving. The contraption destroying the Titans, Zackly still being free to do what he wants, all those people sent to prison camps, Eren's seriously out of it and the power is taking a toll on him. Is everything really alright? It's such a creepy feeling.

Wasn't the 3D gear something new to the Ape Titan at his first appearance?
-
Wasn't the 3D gear something new to the Ape Titan at his first appearance?
Yeah, which means the Monkey (this shifter) is obviously from outside the walls and hasn't probably been inside the walls since the Gear was invented or since they discovered the nape. I'm still really interested in this character and what the Titan village is like.
-
Just for fun
Who thought the same hands up!

Just for fun
Who thought the same hands upI thought literally the same exact thing hahahaha
This new progression in the plot is amazing, i was getting tired of all the whole "one true king" plot line, don't they know the titans are marching on the wall and winter is coming?! :ninja:
-
Wasn't the 3D gear something new to the Ape Titan at his first appearance?
The 3D Gear-System was invented between the Year 775 and 788. It was something new to him, so he was just a Spy, who stole a Survey-Corps Outfit. And he met his Brother.
-
Lol marlo and eren have the same ignorance in love. That was the best page for me haha
-
I have been following this series for a bit and I haven't made a single post in this thread before.
Wow.
Maybe it's because i lost track of the plot. -
That's pretty understandable. It's monthly and got rather complicated, doesn't help that the art's always been pretty messy.
I really do look forward to these two big arcs animated next year. Now I want it to end with the cliffhanger this chapter as the teaser for season 3. That makes 35 chapters to cover.
-
Beast Titan Looks very charismatic. I hope he fights with Levi whenever levi injects himself with serum.

You know, something don't add up in this whole thing. Reiner was eager to prevent Connie from the realisation what has really happened in his village. So he knew about the ability of the Beast/Ape Titan? But the Ape Titan didn't even knew about the language they speak within the walls and obviously didn't know about the 3D gear. So the Ape Titan is part of a group that that had more than 100 years no contact with the wall-people. So I presume that Reiners people are up to this date undetected by the Ape Titan, but they are aware of him and the abilities of his people (turning humans into titans). So the only way this man (the current Ape-shifter) is related to anyone within the walls is, that he ate, as a titan, the original ape shifter shortly after he left the walls with the gear.

! The Ape Titan knew that he speaks the same language like Mike. He was wondering why Mike didnt answer, or even says anything. Then he recognized that he is shocked. This "I thought we speak the same language" was just a reaction on the silence of Mike.
-
Mh, yeah, sounds right. I guess I misinterpreted that scene.
-

i think its good to take out a huge amount of normal titans not the deviant , just luring them there and killing them without wasting lives or resources
@Wintermute:Wasn't the 3D gear something new to the Ape Titan at his first appearance?
yeah so him shown like he know berthold and reiner makes me conclude that he met them after he killed mike , or else he would have known of the 3d gear , seems like he know more informations than those two . (i mean info from outside the walls )

It seems like Reiner and Berthold were never able to find out where Erens house and the cellar is located on their mission. So both factions have to search through the rubble while Titans constantly harass them.
-
I just caught with this manga and I really don't see what is so great about it.
-
Eh, not everything really works for everyone. It happens.
I pretty much like everything about it except the pacing in the coup arc and the art. Most of the characters have arcs at this point, it's thematically interesting and consistent, the plotting is really well thought out and the Titan battles are very intense. The former three I didn't really appreciate on my first read through (marathon) as much because I missed a lot of it, but on the second one I really noticed a lot of details, with the anime also helping along with that. It's one of those series which when I started actually thinking about got a ton better to me. At this point it's just a lot of fun to talk about and speculate about it with people to me.
-
Can someone tell me what exactly was the deal of the canned food in that castle ruins? Was there some kind of hint in "Herring"?
-
A hint to the village outside the walls (who knows, maybe there's more to it than that, too) having a different script, basically foreshadowing for lots of stuff in hindsight. Reiner was shocked at her knowing the characters, showing that it shouldn't be understandable to the people in the walls. So it hinted at both of them being Titans.
-
I'm lazy and have developed Alzheimer's. Why did the Scouting Legion have to organize a coup again? Was it due to low funding or something?
I just caught with this manga and I really don't see what is so great about it.
I might be mistaken, but I think non-anime internet hype is mostly "really gory and disturbing cartoon"? It wasn't disturbing at all, save for maybe that kid whose mom became a titan.
Until I went braindead, the series is pretty intense and well written. It did have a momentum of mystery that did push you forward.
-
I'm lazy and have developed Alzheimer's. Why did the Scouting Legion have to organize a coup again? Was it due to low funding or something?
I forget precisely myself. If I remember right I think it was a combination of growing awareness of just how corrupt the government was, the fact they were withholding knowledge that might be useful fighting the Titans, followed by the government starting to target them for attack.
-
Also, whoops, the Scouting legion is supposed to be the Survey Corps. Get with the new translation.
-
Yeah, the SL were being targeted, they wanted to find out about what the government is hiding/solve the corruption problem and find answers through that.
Apparently it was also the arc Isayama was the most hesitant about in the planning process. Apparently it absolutely needed to happen for further stuff to makes sense or something, but he wasn't sure he would be able to make it entertaining.
-
Haven't read AoT in a while. Just had a look at the last page of the latest chapter and read no more, it seemed really interesting to see what was going on.
I stopped about maybe a year +? Around the part where they are in the palace and remove the king. I felt that monthly issues made me lose track of the story and felt at the time the characters all looked the same after a month and I couldn't match names with people. I might just re-read the whole thing, also finished the anime whilst reading. -

! The bits about Grisha are the most interesting. He's from outside the walls, questioning stuff about life within the walls. Also, I feel like what Shadis says to Eren is welcome after all the horrible stuff he's gone through. -

It is confirmed that there going to be important announcement for Shingeki! Kyojin Chuugakkou (comedy-spinoff for Shingeki no Kyojin).
Also, yet again, there going to be new spin-off for SnK, called Shingeki no Kyojin Lost Girl (comicalization of novel), which going to start on September Issue of Bessatsu Shounen Magazine.
-
Hey, cool to see Lost Girls get adapted. I read summaries for the VNs and Annie's in particular sounded pretty interesting.
As for the chapter, I could complain about the slow pacing again, but I've accepted that'll probably be a problem with the series till the end of it and I will probably stick with it till the end because of the characters.
At least the series always throws around plot nuggets (however small) and powerful ideas. Like Carla's words at the end of the chapter, Eren's father definitely being from outside the walls and not actually being all that terrible of a father in a sense (at least he has faith in Eren) and Keith's character being different from what I expected. We know who sabotaged Eren's belt and why exactly Keith stopped being the commander. Also, Hanji telling it how it is to Shadis.
Didn't need an entire chapter spent only on that, but I liked all of it, especially Carla's words. Extra frustrating because I realized Reiner, Bertholdt and Monkey Titan probably won't show up again until the SL reaches Shiganshina. I can see another couple of chapters dealing with Connie, the Ackerman mystery and perhaps adressing Annie and then the start of the expedition at night. Ideally I'd want all three adressed next chapter and head out the chapter after that, but with this pacing I'm not sure. The final destination is at least very clearly the basement and as far as we know all the roadblocks are gone now.
-
Did we know prior to this chapter that Eren's belt was tampered with back during training?
-
Yeah, it happened back during the training chapters. It's been a small mystery since then, but now we know it was Shadis.
On a second thought, I'm not sure how much better Eren's father is here. Yeah he trusts him, but he so conviniently used Eren's mother's death to drive him to avenge her just as he learned about it. I feel like there was something other than the fall of Wall Maria and Carla's death as his motivation.
-
So Grisham was a Titan shifter from the outside world too?
-
Where did you guys see the chapter? I can't find it on my usual sources.
Edit: never mind found it. And I don't know why Hange is so harsh with Shadis. He still provides the Survey Corps with plenty excellent recruits.
-
poor Keith. I feel bad for the guy.
-
People should really link the chapters if they are going to talk about them.
I'm gonna go ahead and say no when it's very clear that it's a crunchyroll rip. Maybe indicate that it's out on crunchyroll or some other free scan, but def no official viz or crunchyroll simulpubs just flat out stolen.
