Metal Gear Solid V: Survive is some real far waters exploitation

I've seen a few Twitter posts by journalists who were invited to the LA headquarters to play a bit of the game. One of them said that he played 10 missions in the first chapter, about 7 hours total, and was at 4% game completion (This percentage is obviously 100% completion counter though, not just for beating the main game. Still, that's longer than MGS1 and 2 when played well). There are also bears that you can fight and fulton. And he mentioned enemies that sounded like the "Those Who Don't Exist" from the trailer that are in certain parts of Afghanistan that you can encounter, so they're not just bosses if they are at all.

Can't wait until June 9 to hear the full thoughts of journalists .

Since it hasnt been posted, here is our E3 trailer
-
I must have watched this trailer more than 30 times since yesterday . Such masterpiece of a trailer .
Also the thing with Skull Face might be Big Boss's hallucination has got me intrigued as hell .

I'd like to start the Metal Gear serie but there are many games, remake, spinoff and so on.

I'd like to start the Metal Gear serie but there are many games, remake, spinoff and so on.
Which game should I play ? In whitch order ?There's been quite a few collections released over the years, but this one is probably your best bet. All those games for $35? Doesn't get better than that!
It has every major game in the series (minus Portable Ops, which you could probably just skip anyway since it's pretty hit-and-miss among fans. At least look up the cut scenes online for the story).
For me, I believe it's best to play the games chronologically in terms of their release (mostly… More on that later), since you'll get the most out of the overall story that way. And I'd recommend playing in release order starting from it's PS1 roots, which is MGS1 and working up to 4, then Peace Walker.
This collection includes the very first games in the series (Metal Gear 1 and 2, note that the word Solid isn't in the titles). While they're the first two games, you may be put off by the old style (I wasn't, but not sure how newcomers would want to take it), and I really don't want it to feel like you have to go through a chore in order to enjoy MGS1-4, so I recommend playing MG 1 & 2 once you feel pretty comfortable in the series… Just be aware that 1-4 references the events in MG 1 and 2 (especially MGS1). But if I recall correctly, MGS1 at least recaps the important parts so you don't feel lost. But of course, I've seen plenty of people recommend playing the MG games before MGS, so whatever you feel might be best is up to you.
As for other games that you don't really have to play:
[hide]
Twin Snakes is for the Gamecube, and is a remake of MGS1. Some love it and others hate it, primarily because they change the cutscenes to be like an Actionman 3000 Hollywood flick. At first I thought the cutscenes were awesome, but over the years I've come to realize that they don't really fit in with Snake's character and kind of diminish the scale of things happening in the game. There's also a Gameboy Color game that isn't really related to the main series (it somehow happens at the same time as MGS1), but it's still a pretty solid (ha!) MGS game consider the GBC's limitations.[/hide]

Which game should I play ? In whitch order ?First you should play the numbered games: MGS 1 is available in the PS Store (it is a PS! game, but there's also a GameCube remake), 2 and 3 have an HD version, and 4 got re-released recently so none should be hard to find.
Then play the PSP games. Peace Walker comes in the same HD collection as 2 and 3. Portable Ops may be harder to find (I'm not sure if this one is that important. I haven't played it. I mention it because I've heard people say it is related to 5).
Finally play Ground Zeroes and you will be ready to fully understand 5.Cronologically they would go something like 3 - PO - PW - GZ - 5 - 1 - 2 - 4 , but I do not recommend it. You could also play the original ones (they also come with the HD collection), but I don't think it is worth it if you don't like really old games.

Which game should I play ? In whitch order ?If you want to play the games in chronological order then follow this : MGS 3 , MGS Peace Walker , MGS 5 Ground Zeroes ( prologue to Phantom Pain) , MGS 5 Phantom Pain ( coming out in september this year) , Metal gear , Metal Gear 2 solid snake , MGS1 , MGS2 and MGS4 .
These are the games in order of release if you want to play them in this order : Metal Gear , Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake , MGS1 , MGS2 , MGS3 , MGS4 , MGS Peace Walker , MGS 5 GZ and MGS 5 Phantom Pain .
Also there is a another game in the series called MGS portable Ops that takes place after MGS 3 and is important for establishing a group that plays a big part in later games . The game itself is considered to be canon-filler but the core story is canon and written by Kojima himself .

Playing the original MG and MG 2 is still worth it imo . Sure the games are dated and are almost 3 decades old but they are both excellent action / adventure games with MG2 having great story and its focus on complex issues .
-
Thanks guys. I have a PS3 so I will go for the collection and play in the release order. I don't think I will have any issue starting with MG and MG2 even if it got very old.
What about Rising ?

Rising is a fun hack and slash game but it's not related to the canon material nor it's written by Kojima . You can still play it if you want .
-
Rising is different type of MGS game altogether. If you want to get up to speed for Phantom, you don't need it.

The original Metal Gear, and Metal Gear 2, are obviously old games. I love the MGS series, but even I haven't played those. That style of game is too outdated for me. I would recommend you just read a good summary, or better yet, watch the game on youtube. They are short. Big Boss' dialog is interesting. With MGS5 coming up, it's fun seeing two versions of that man.
Metal Gear Solid, though, that's where it's at. Metal Gear Solid 3 is my personal favorite, especially the story.
Fun fact: MGS4 was my first MGS game. Had no idea what was going on, and still I watched every cutscene. Then I went back and replayed them all (…).
After you're done with the numbering order, play Peace Walker. Storywise, it does not rival the numbered ones, but 5 continues a of of threads from it.

Oh believe me, I think so too, but not everyone may think that, which is why I give a careful caution of it. But you do bring up a good point, even if someone doesn't want to play them, watching them on Youtube would be a great alternative.

Metal Gear Solid, though, that's where it's at. Metal Gear Solid 3 is my personal favorite, especially the story.
MGS 3 was my first game of the series and I was just floored. Gameplay, story, cut scenes, everything.
Plus, I got the Subsistence edition, and I think that was one of the best re-releases ever. The game plus Boss Rush, MG 1 & 2, and MG Online all for $30!After you're done with the numbering order, play Peace Walker. Storywise, it does not rival the numbered ones, but 5 continues a of of threads from it.
Peace Walker remains as one of my personal favorites despite the weaker (but still not bad) story. The micro managing and army building was a lot more fun and rewarding in this one.
Funny how it turned out to be what Portable Ops was meant to be.

The story was very simple - well, straightforward one. Didn't need to know about the patriots, about Solid or Liquid. Just a story about a patriot.
There's a song that plays during the credits (Way To Fall by Starsailor), and it was just a brilliant song choice. It fit the story. From start to the very credits it truly was like a movie.
I hope Phantom has a variant of the MGS theme.

IGN released a 40 mintue demo video from E3 (since it seems most of it was not allowed to be recorded otherwise)
Edit: updated with a video

Phantom Pain OST have been nothing but universally praised by the people who went to the preview and played the game for more than 10 hours .
-
Any idea who's voicing Zero in the trailer since it's confirmed to not be Jim Piddock?
(I really like Zero. For some reason.)

Never thought of it that way before. The story is pretty straight forward, and isn't anything like the end of 2 (which is honestly the only "confusing" thing about it). And I also love that whole ladder sequence.
And by MGS theme, do you mean the original, before Kojima was threatened with a lawsuit that Konami didn't even bother to challenge? 'cause I miss that tune.

Another part of Peace Walker that I didn't like was that, at the end of Snake Eater, Eva told him about everything that The Boss did. That ending shot with him saluting her grave was perfect. Him being hesitant on shaking the president's hand was perfect.
And then Snake went throughout the whole of Peace Walker not fully believing what Eva told him, wanting clearer answers. And that's fine, I guess. Why should he believe a triple agent? I though just it a waste, is all.

I believe I've heard the original theme, but I prefer these two, much cleaner.. I want a variation of this again. That guitar part is so sweet.
These two are MGS to me. They are part of MGS's identity.

Does anyone else think MGSV should be a homage to 80s action flicks the same way MGS3 was a homage to 60s spy flicks?
Mullets, synth-rock, really macho guys, the works.

Well the initial "save kaz" mission is very very reminiscent of rambo 3, afghanistan and everything. But regardless of that i think its safe to say kojima wont be able to resist that possibility, at least in some missions if not the main story. The music alone will make the era at least have a presence, there were also a ton of 80's action movie posters made by artists that kojima posted on his twitter at one point
-
The Kojima name must not be spoken!
-
Here is the different way to approach and play the e3 demo . -
! ROKETTO PAUNCH!
! "Really?"
! "THAT IS SO COOL" -
If my PC can handle it, I will probably spend the whole game searching for animals for my Mother Base zoo.
-
Venom Snake will be the very best, like no-one ever was. He will be the all-time Pokemon MASTER!
-
Here is that same demo in english

If the pc port is anything like Ground Zeroes then i am pretty much that you won't need a high-end pc to play it smoothly .

So the official final Phantom Pain box art has been revealed …......... and it's missing Kojima Production Logo ..................... Way to leave Fox Engine logo on the cover while taking out the logo of the people WHO MADE IT .
Seriously Konami's behavior towards this whole situation is shitty as hell . I seriously am not gonna support them after The Phantom Pain comes out .

Don't worry. Konami's making it easier for you by not making any more video games!
Unless you're into mobile I guess

Why would they keep Kojima's name on the cover when it's been no secret for months that they've been trying to give Kojima the "Chris Benoit" treatment. And going with what Hermit said why would you keep buying anything from Konami when they won't be making anything worth buying for the foreseeable future.

Yes this happened before too but Konami did however to put Kojima Production back on his work again because of how much backlash it got . Yet again they decided to take it out for some reason .
I know that Kojima production logo being there might not mean much to people but it personally pisses me off that the people who have been busting their asses creating fox engine and Phantom Pain are being treated as nobodies .

Well it's only the cover yeah if they remove all traces of Kojima's name from the game itself…..super dick move.
-
PC version coming day one now it seems. Really glad I don't have to dodge spoilers for 2 weeks now. Though there'll still be people who pirate the game for the 360/PS3 like 2 weeks before release spoiling things.
Edit: Though MGO on PC is delayed a bit. But that's preferable to the main game being delayed.
-
Fuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so goddamn happy right now that i am literally crying tears of happiness !
-
Konami does something right for the first time since greenlighting this game.
I will do nothing for the month of September except sled down the mountains of Afghanistan using a cardboard box. This is where my life begins.
-
Phantom Pain gamescom trailer just came out .
-
New Motherbase and FOB gamescom gameplay video .
After seeing this , i can definitely say Phantom Pain will be the best game of the decade by far .

Sweet Jesus… This is going to be the best game ever. Won't be long now!

Jumping Panda?…Bastard Roach?...Grizzly Cobra?!

Hopefully it's not as biased as this one

Gamespot also gives it a 10/10, and Gamespot is actually particular about who gets perfect marks.

Does that apply to the PC version…..I actually ran into some guy saying that the PC version is going to be a debacle on par with Arkham Knight's PC version.
He also thinks pirating the game is somehow moral and legal.
-
I'm so hyped for this. A bit disappointing to hear that the story isn't as good as the previous games, but the gameplay looks promising enough to make up for it.
