No early Amazon exclusive release?
Looks like I'm going with Rightstuf this time.
-
How early does RightStuf usually ship out
-
The earliest I ever received was three weeks, but its different every time.

So you guys know how Funimation is now doing simulcast dubs. How insane would it be if One Piece was one of the shows picked up for this feature.

Which shows are currently getting simulcast dubs
During the ANN Podcast Funiamtion said they would be revealing their winter list of simulcast shows soon. So we'll have to wait and see.
-
yea that would be cool, but I would think that it would be harder for them to do since it is such a long running series. and If they were to pick it up, it probably won't happen until the dressrosa arc is over. I don't see them picking it up in the middle of an arc.
-
I don't think there's any chance of them ever considering skipping that many episodes. It just doesn't make any sense.
-
Broadcast dubs are only for new seasonal shows.
It wouldn't be smart or feasible to do it with a long-running anime like One Piece.
-
Fairy Tail is the only viable show that i could see pulling this off since its not that far behind the japanese, other than Space Dandy is there any other shows that simulcast with the Japanese
-
I know they do it with psycho pass 2 (I think that is what it is called) I believe. I can't fully remember
-
Yeah i just googled it and only having to wait a month is not bad at all
-
Under The Clouds also got a simulcast dub as well.
-
from what i read from this presser, it seems they were only talking about the shows already getting broadcast dubs :/

I understand they did the episode skipage thing back with Skypeia, but I can't really see them having reason to do it again. Though I'd be excited if they did, they'd be treating it as two shows, and the current releases would probably slow down.
-
If they were doing what you is saying Zephray then it would make alot of sense as to why the releases been so sparse and having dressrosa dub this early would be awesome to me
-
I don't think skipping ahead to dub Dressrossa (especially since we're currently in the middle of it) would be that good of an idea at all. I think dubbing the series in order is more essential. If Skypiea is any indication I think trying to dub seasons out of sequential order would cause inconsistencies in acting and dialogue/terminology.
I mean, many people complained about the way Kizaru was acted in Film Z, right? Something tells me that had they dubbed at least Sabaody before Film Z they probably would have understood that Kizaru needed to be acted with a slower, more dragged out speech style like he was supposed to be. Even if they get a basic idea of what transpired between the point the dub is currently at and Dressrossa I assume it’s hard to get a good handle on the story/characters when you skip ahead like that; you miss important details which would affect the way you have an actor act or how you write a script. While they could fix dialogue before the DVD release (like they did with Skypiea) I still feel like it would negatively affect the quality of the dubbing overall (maybe not significantly, but still).
But, like MasteKingJC pointed out, I think it’s very unlikely they would do a simulcast dub for a long-running series; they probably only do this for series where there is a definitive end in sight, not something they would have to do a simulcast for for years.

You're right, the only situation where it might happen is if Toei were pushing for it essentially funding Funimation to expand their properties. It has been done with Space Dandy, but the production schedule was very different to what One Piece has at the minute.

Guys Funimation skips around with the order of the episodes all the time. Only the episode on DVD have been released in order. Take Toonami for example they started things right off the bat with Foxy/Water 7 which is 200+ episodes into the story.
Don't forget that One Piece is Funimation's very first Simulcast.
I'm mean odds are it wont happen, but it would be pretty dam amazing if it did.
-
Jason DeMarco and Toonami are the ones who decided to start One Piece at 207. Funimation has never willingly skipped around episodes of One Piece.
The two shows that they have broadcast dubbed have about 11 to 13 episodes. It's much more reasonable to dub a short anime with 13 episodes than wasting resources and money on trying to dub new episodes of an endless anime.

The difference is those episodes had been dubbed for a while before they were put on Toonami; its not like they dubbed those episodes ahead of time specifically for Toonami.
One Piece being their first simulcast means nothing. It costs a considerably smaller amount of money to subtitle episodes then it would to adapt scripts and hire voice actors for dubbing; it wouldn't be cost effective to create a dub simulcast for a series that is only mildly popular and has no clear end in sight.

Here's Funimation's convention schedule, for those who are interested.

Season 7, Part 1 will mean Flying Fish Riders, right?
Won't this spring be around the right time to start seriously campaigning for David Moo as Duval?

Correct.
And oh man, that would be amazing.
-
Ugh…now I'm just gonna be disappointed when it doesn't happen. Why'd you have to get that awesome thought in my head?
-
Is David Moo a non-union voice actor?

That actually works be incredible, and fitting lol
-
I like David Moo as Zelos in The Slayer.
that would be so cute as Duval.
-
Matthew Mercer would make a great Law.

Matthew Mercer would make a great Law.
well yeah especially considering the fact that he and the seiyuu for law both played Levi in attack on titan
-
Ugh, crap, now I want David Moo as Duval.
But he's not voice acting anymore, is he? I thought I heard something about him owning a bar in Jersey.

You know, after watching the Venture Bros. special it's too bad Doc Hammer isn't involved in anime voice overs since I know many people said his voice sounds similar to 4kids dub Sanji only with more believable acting.

Amazon got another One Piece exclusive. Collection boxset 3.
-
nice to see that. I am going to assume that it will be a nami themed one.
-
They're releasing another one in March?
I guess it will have Collection 12 included a month ahead of time.
-
(via WTK) More clear version of Collection 11 cover
!
-
Do you guys think they'll start casting the straw hats in other roles after sabaody like the Japanese did?
-

wow, a little over $60 for what should be just about 100 eps of content (of course I assume that price will go up to the $90 price range the first 2 boxsets are currently at sooo preorder while it's still discounted!)
-

I think if Mike knows the Japanese did this and for which characters it would lead to the best chance of it being applied to the same ones as a sorta in-joke. Wouldn't be surprised at all if he just didn't know otherwise from simply watching the subbed episodes.
-
I imagine he pays some attention to the credits and would notice one of the main voices as another character. By maybe not. Would be good to give the straw hats some more work while they get time off from one piece.
-
Even if he doesn't notice the main voices of the Japanese version being cast as other characters he still might give the main English voice cast new roles while their characters are mostly absent, just to keep them involved on the show while their characters aren't.
Though, honestly, I'm more interested in seeing how the "Fake Strawhats" turn out when we eventually get to them (I'm pretty sure the use of the Strawhat voice actors for these guys is too obvious to go unnoticed).
-
I didn't care for that plotline, but it will be fun to listen to.

He's said before that he typically skips the openings though, with Towards the Light being the exception. Reasons he cited are easily applicable to the endings as well, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if he just sat through 'em just once or twice each at the most and wasn't trying to remember all the Japanese SH cast names. Hope he does in any case, as well as for the fake SH.

I don't envy Mike Mcharland, Jerry Jewell, Joel Mchdonald or whoever ends up directing the Marineford Arc. Just imagine all of the supporting actors they'd need to get in touch with. I wonder if anyone will get recast, like Mihawk was in Japanese.
-

Mihawk was recast due to the voice actor's illness.
-
i wonder who they will get to do Ivankov, i am really looking forward to that

i thought the JPN voice died and hurt. rip.

I don't think this will really be too much of an issue. It hasn't been so far, such as with the boss Luffy episodes during Enies Lobby.
I think the one thing I would like to see in those cases is for the VAs to listen to their previous work so they can come closer to sounding how they did before. Cobra during those episodes sounded so different that I thought he really was voiced by someone else.

He was hospitalized the year that he was meant to return for the Marineford Arc.
He unfortunately didn't recover, and passed away in 2012.
