Teaser Preview for Upcoming Shokugeki no Souma animation:
Food Wars - It's In the Trash
-
-
Hmm, not bad. I like their focus and detail on the food.
Also glad someone like Warner Bros. is distributing this series and not Kadokawa (just a pet peeve of mine). -
is jc staff still as good as they used to be?
-
Not much to say this week except that I don't really like how Souma became such an underdog even with his 2 previous impressive wins.
I get that he's going with an handicap but it shouldn't be pointed to that extent with his 2 opponents not considering him at all.
Also, I hope his friends don't help him too much since it's not really fair IMO. -

Also, I hope his friends don't help him too much since it's not really fair IMO.I mean, it isn't against the rules, and Hayama's whole thing is that he uses his nose in order to realize the theories by that teacher, so it's not like he isn't getting help in that sense. Kurokiba probably won't accept any advice, but that's his own fault and his own decision. It's not like they're coming up with the idea anyways, he's just asking advice on how to realize it
-
As long as it's just that, "advice", I'll be fine. But if he starts using their specialties, I will not like it.

What do you mean use their specialty? I mean, if he want's advice, he's obviously planning to use something related to their fields. I think he wants an expert's opinion just like he did with Nikumi in the part when he was competing with the shop to save his shopping district
-
Basically, I don't want him to make a recipe where their help is too obvious and it doesn't feel as his own recipe anymore.
Maybe they can help him in teaching him the theory on how to cook preserved food instead of fresh food since it's related to their specialties (dried food for Megumi, fermenting from Ryouko and smoking from Ibusaki) but if the recipe is just a combination of their skills (exemple : using Kouji, dried tomatoes and smoking some part of the fish) it won't feel right to me. It will obviously not go that far, but I hope you get the idea. -
I'm really enjoying the series right now, but it is getting just a little repetitive. I know its a tournament and tournament arcs almost always end up like that, but I feel something needs to be changed up a little after this arc. Maybe we can get to see some cooking lessons in the school, or some focus on gathering ingredients or managing a restaurant, see a little of the other elements of the cooking world. Of course, just a lot of character interaction is good enough too.
Maybe a ping-pong tournament.
-
I'm not feeling any of the finalist in the top ten, Kurokiba and soma are doing it for the hype and competitive spirit, and akira is a douche, this match won't have an official winner.
-
Finally caught up, including Ch 95. I like the progression into a three-way final, but I can't help but feel that sort of "been there, done that" feeling behind the approach. I'm pretty sure we'll be seeing a winner though.
! Most important factor in this match, as Fumio-san mentions, is "timing". The freshness of the saury will change depending on when it is seasoned. I see Soma's caught on, but the other two seem to be getting a little ahead of themselves.
Speaking of which, this situation among the three reminds me of that old Chinese parable about the stork, the clam, and the farmer. Hayama's the stork, Kurokiba's the clam, and Soma's the farmer. If those two aren't careful, they're going to be caught in a net.

Would not be surprised at all if this or something like this ends up being the imaginary scene. Two enemies fighting each other while they're taken down by a worse predator.
Yeah, given the recent chapter I feel like Soma's going to take it all now.
-
Chinese scan is out.
! Soma decided to go for imperfection
-
! Awesome, straight to the match. I was surprised we saw the beginning of the match in this chapter, thought there would be more pages of preparation.
! I wonder what Soma noticed on the granny's food table.
! Is that fish…frozen?... -

! Is that fish…frozen?...! Rotten maybe? He saw green soy beams and thought of fermented soy. That's my guess
-
! I'm so excited with this battle!
-
I want to say that I think I know how this 3 way will end but it's kinda hard to guess outcomes in this series. Especially with the plot mechanic of the more naturally skilled ignoring the newbie. But I do like Soma's plan so far and I'm not sure how far it's going to get him.
-
Maybe you could learn to analyze with time but can a human nose be that sharp in regards to Hayama? I just feel it's ridiculous.
-
The author is exaggerating with Hayama's sense of smell, like when Erina didn´t like the taste of the breast milk. But it doesn't matter since it's fictional story, and its a well balanced battle.

For Erina it was a joke so I brushed that off but I'm just wondering if it's possible to replicate Hayama's sharp nose irl.
-
It was funnny but as real as Hayama's sense of smell. All of them are fictions aimed to entertain. If you don't believe the story, you can be entertained by it. But that's something between you and the story, not between THE reality and the story. (THE reality doesn't exists ).
-
I'm glad that just using his friends techniques didn't work.
My favorite part of this chapter is the interaction between Ibusaki and Ryouko. They would make a cute couple. More importantly, it's hinting more development for Ibusaki IMO which would be interesting to see. -
Hayama seems to have the smelling power of a Bloodhound cranked to 11. I'd think it would make daily life much more difficult or annoying for him than he shows.
-
Imagine being able to smell everyone's body odor like crazy

He probably knows that Gigi smells like semen.

You know, all Ryou needs to win is to constantly fart in the competition. Let's see how Hyama's nose works with that odor around. XDDD

Seriously, I thought he was just going to cook smelly things in his match against Hyama earlier, but I doubt he will sink that low in a rematch. Souma on the other hand is known for cooking stinky things…

Chapter 97 spoilers
!
! Nakiri Leonora, Alice's mother is one of the judges. -
Don't you feel now the tie between Kuro and Hayama was a good decision taken by the author? I mean, the narrative about how Soma is paving the way between those two monsters is just so amusing and enjoyable. I'm so pleased.
Spoiler of ch 97, (still non-confirmed but it's almost sure it's real):
! The audience is appalled by Souma's fish
! The title of the chapter is "Moonlight Memories" and the opening page has Erina(?) dressed in a kimono
! Ryou is about to snap, and that he would've hit Souma is he was on berserk mode (Alice named it as such)
Akira congrats Souma on being third place
A well-dressed Satoshi introduces the judges.
There are three judges this time, Senzaemon, Gin, and…
The head of the research division (Nakiri International), Alice's mother, Nakiri Leonora
She's apparently like what would happen if you made a mom/wife character out of a blonde-haired exchange student who speaks in a dubious way
(And maybe because when Alice lost to Souma she had a 9-hour long international call with her) when her smile disappears her intimidating game boss-ish airs are comparable to those of the other two judges
! For some reason only the finals are hold at night
The hall's ceiling has an oval-shaped opening
The moon is becoming visible from that opening and the match begins once it's fully visible
And after the moon crosses that gap the cooking time ends
! Gin remembers when he fought in that hall
His opponent was Jouichirou and now his son is fighting in the same stage
On Senzaemon's command the cooking begins -
I'm glad that just using his friends techniques didn't work.

Mostly using this post to segue and say Casanova Scans released chapter 96.I know what happens in the chapter, I want to know what fana believes is happening because I have two different answers depending on what he means.
-
I wonder if the curing enhancing will be enough to compensate the fact he wasn’t able to choose the best ingredient. Can the judges really overlook that part even if his dish is very good ?
-
Well, the contest isn't about "choosing the freshest piece of fish", and they did just have a chapter talking about how cured fish is becoming popular in restaurants these days, so I think whatever inspiration Soma got will probably give him the edge.
! And judging by the Chinese scan, it seems like Erina knows what's up
-
it's not that i'm talking about. it is that Souma is unable to choose a good quality ingredient. This could be judged as an eliminatory factor or at least a big malus.
-
The judges could look down at his abilities as a chef because of it, but for the competition all that matters is the quality of the dish, not the skills used to prepare the dish.
-
it's not that i'm talking about. it is what importance will give the judges in Souma incapacity in choosing a good ingredient ? it could be considered eliminatory.
-

They might comment on it, but it holds no importance with regards to judging. He won't be eliminated because of it. Like I said in my post.
-
Yeah like I mean, just because he couldn't choose the best fish isn't the point of the competition. I'm sure Soma can still choose a good quality fish, but he needs a bit more pizzazz to give it an edge compared to Hayama's inhuman nose or Kurokiba's fishy fish senses
-
Choosing top quality fish is just like, bonus marks. It's not a requirement for passing. Being eliminated just because you're not Hayama or Kurokiba seems a bit extreme.
-
Soma already gave the answer. It was like if he went: "if I'm not that good in choosing the most fresh ingredients, I'll make the fresh of the ingredients won't count in this battle: I'll compete with an almost rotten ingredient". Translation: it's about the taste, not about fresh ingredients. Smart guy, isn't he?
! Toooo much panels for the moon in this chapter, damn!
-
If the 'best fish' is determined by time after catch, then Soma's isn't in a comparable place, anyways, quality-wise. You could say that the one he chose is several days old and that the initial selection holds no bearing.
But we know the ingredient quality isn't just a factor of time, but processing can change it, too. Through curing the fish, its quality transforms. If Soma's successful, his cured fish could be a better ingredient than the perfectly fresh ones Hayama and Ryou chose.
-
! Toooo much panels for the moon in this chapter, damn!
! Agree. It doesn't exactly make up for it, but I do like the last two page spread at the end of the chapter. It feels really dynamic.
-

Cooking methods (smoking, kouji).
-
Before you said…
@fana:Maybe they can help him in teaching him the theory on how to cook preserved food instead of fresh food since it's related to their specialties (dried food for Megumi, fermenting from Ryouko and smoking from Ibusaki) but if the recipe is just a combination of their skills (exemple : using Kouji, dried tomatoes and smoking some part of the fish) it won't feel right to me.
..and in this chapter the scenario you wanted (teaching him the theory) was the one that played out, yet you say you were happy when he failed at that. Just got me a bit confused that's all.
-
Is it me or is there something wrong with his expression? Looks weird.
[hide][/hide] -
That seems to be his normal "prepare for something that will either be really interesting or really disgusting" face
