Haki was needed to counteract Logia DF's being overpowered, and also explained things like mantra and Shanks scaring off the Sea King.
We don't NEED a new type of DF. A new subset would easily do the job that you're talking about.

Sorry I meant to reply to you're previous comment. I don't think the mushroom will be the counter for a DF, however, as you say it raises the possibility of another power granting substance.
TBH though, I think most of the mushroom's effects are poison/ trippy which would be a joke more than anything. Not really to be taken seriously.

But then Oda would have to come up with several explanations about why and how God Fruits are different from Devil Fruits. There's also the fact that "Akuma" from "Akuma no Mi" doesn't necessarily mean "Devil", so the contrast between God and Devil doesn't really work here.

Not sure if anyone already came up with this theory but I'm thinking more and more about the will of D ever since we learned Trafalgar's real name. There aren't much people in OP with a D in their name. Only Gol D. Roger, Monkey D. Garp, Monkey D. Luffy, Monkey D. Dragon, Portgas D. Ace, Portgas D. Rouge, Jaguar D. Saura and now Trafalgar D. Water Law and Marshall D. Teach.
In the SBS questions, when Oda was asked what the D in Luffy's name stood for, he just replied to read it as a D for now and that he would reveal the truth behind it in time. What is interesting is that Oda said "read it as a D for now". For me it means D is just an abbreviation for something else. But what? Devil? Dream? Destiny? Or maybe an actual family name? Or maybe the Great Kingdom's name actully begins with a D and all the D people are the survivors of the Great Kingdom's fall?
Anyway, one thing links all these people: they are all stronger than the average human and caused troubles for the WG/Marine at some point:
Gol D. Roger: Wanted pirate
Monkey D. Garp: Raised Luffy and Ace who are criminals' sons + helped Luffy to free Ace
Monkey D. Luffy: The whole Enies Lobby/Impel Down thing + Celestial Dragon's attack
Monkey D. Dragon: Freed countries of WG's control
Jaguar D. Saul: Betrayed the Marines by protecting Nico Robin
Portgas D. Ace: Was Roger's son
Portgas D. Rouge: bore Roger's son
Trafalgar D. Water Law: caused some incidents here and there + healed Luffy and helped him to escape
Marshall D. Teach: Betrayed the Marines to become Yonko
All of them either have a Devil Fruit or have a great strength/stamina. Whitebeard said Teach wasn't the one Roger was waiting for. I believe all the carriers of the D fight/defy the WG/the Marines at one point and they'll all team up to make the WG fall (it's the will of the Great Kingdom). But they have another will, this will is individual and come from another carrier of the D who couldn't have achieve the will. Luffy carries Roger's will, as for the others, I don't know yet. All of the carriers of the D are somehow linked to a dead carrier and all of them form the descendants of the Great Kingdom's inhabitants.
I also believe Uranus is the will of D. Ancient weapons are indestructible so is the will of the D. Uranus was, in the Greek mythology the sky and the father of the titans (and the Olympian gods come from them). He's basically the Father of the World. It can be linked to the Great Kingdom which was the previous civilization/organization before the WG took over. So the Ancient Weapons would be: Poseidon: the mermaid princess which inherited of the power, Pluton: a huge ship which plans have been inherited by Franky from generations of Water Seven's carpenters and Uranus: the will which has been inherited by a few people all over the World. All these Ancient Weapons are the clue to win the future Great War. Let's take Marineford War for example: it has been fought with ships and men full of determination who only followed one goal: to save Ace. What are the Ancient Weapons? A huge ship (Moby Dick anyone?), men full of determination and… Shirahoshi. The control of the sea is what lacked to WB's crew to actually win the War. They struggled to go home and without Shanks' help, I doubt they would've make it to the New World. Also since One Piece's world is filled with islands, there is an important amount of seas and oceans so it's even more important to dominate them.
As for Teach, either he's the descendant of a traitor from the Great Kingdom or he has the strength of a carrier of a D but not the actual D.

There's always this whole theme of "waiting for someone to be your friend/to achieve what you couldn't have done", it's often used by Oda the wait. The wait of peoples to be freed of someone/something's control, the wait of friends/people who will actually care about you, the wait of someone to fulfill your dreams. So I'm pretty sure it has something with an inheritance and the wait of someone/something.
Also it has been a recurrent criticism of OP as a few people actually die. I believe it's because death is very important to Oda. I remember this quote from Dr. Hiluluk "When do you think people die? When they are shot through the heart by the bullet of a pistol? No. When they are ravaged by an incurable disease? No. When they drink a soup made from a poisonous mushroom!? No! It’s when… they are forgotten."
Every dead person from OP is never forgotten and still lives in someone's memory. There isn't much meaningless deaths. It's join the whole "inheritance" thing and "nakama" as every OP character has a nakama or a family and isn't forgotten just like the Will of D which is inherited. Also, we can linked to this theme the DF as they re-appear once the DF user dies. It never disappear.

I'm just backing up the fact that the "god fruit could be a thing. People are trying to say, "if we haven't gotten any inclination of something it can't exist since we are so far into the story.
THIS IS WRONG! I do not think the god fruit will be revealed in OP, because there is no proof. However, to say that a god fruit won't come into existance, because were are 700 chapters deep is not a valid reason.
As another poster has said, 700+ chapters in we learned of a
! secret treasure in marijois. You can say what you want, but this could be a brand new, unexplained item vital to the story. It doesn't have to be an ancient weapon, devil fruit or anything we already know is vital to the story.
and that's the point. We are a little past halfway in the story, almost anything could happen, just as in Harry Potter when the horcruxs were revealed after 5/7th of the story was written. Sure, the horcruxs were there since the opening chapter, but no obvious proof came about until well into the story.
I'm not talking as if the god fruit is the "truth :D :D :D ". I'm showing you blockheads that Oda could weave them into the story, if he wanted. Heck, god fruits could already be in the story, and we aren't supposed to even consider the possibility… yet.

This is well written, and I agree with you on almost everything. However, I don't think uranus is the Will of D. I'm actually of the faction that think's Dragon, and Luffy(perhaps) will have inherited the power of uranus, much like shirahoshi inherited poseidon. [

Yes, the nature of the treasure should absolutely be foreshadowed and not a random ass pull. What's important isn't exactly what the treasure is, but the implications it will have and the details involved. The treasure is almost certainly tied to the void century and the true history, and I'd be surprised if the rio poneglyph that contains the full history isn't part of it. But again, knowing that it contains the full history and knowing what that full history is and the implications it brings are entirely different things

Ok, I think you mean the treasure in Mariejois, and not the One Piece, but I still stand by the idea that introducing a random, completely new concept like a god fruit into the series at this point would be awful writing because it would completely destroy the consistency of the world as it's been set up. It's the type of shitty writing that reminds me of Reborn when a character defeated a group of the boss's main minions called the 6 funeral wraiths only for the boss to say "Ha, that didn't matter because here are my REAL 6 funeral wraiths". It's shitty writing and in this case even worse because it goes entirely against the established premise of how powers work in this world. I don't mind Blackbeard because it's stated that he's an exception, and we will presumably get an explanation as to why down the line. Making the FINAL villain an exception to a rule gives him more villain cred, makes him more imposing, and helps build him up as this huge obstacle for our hero to overcome. Even Haki only really works because there had been hints of it from the very start, and even then CoA haki is kind of treading the line, and is really only there out of sheer necessity because some Logia's would be invincible otherwise

Well idk about others, but I know for a fact I wouldn't be into one piece if you were writing it. If it were you we wouldn't have conquers haki, people as ancient weapons, a 2nd "brother" of luffy, BB wouldn't have 2 fruits and joyboy ect.

U just said it, blackbeards two fruit power goes against the "established premises". U like it because it's awesome and Oda wrote it, but it's is an example of "shitty writing" as you call it. It is a random ass pull but once Oda explains it, it will probably tie into the story with some ignored detail. ANOTHER POWER may similarly give a main antagonist "villain cred and make him more imposing".
Which, again, is the point. It's not shitty writing, it's imaginative writing that further develops the story and the universe.

It's pretty clear i'm not going to convince you of this lol Maybe someone should ask Oda what he meant? Can this happen?
But in regards to the translation being the same from every source, it suggests that the particular wording of the scene is not a mistranslation/ word confusion but rather how the scene was meant to be described. This supports the hint because the wording implies Luffy/ Zoro are responding to the question of "who is he anyway", and Luffy/ Zoro would not answer this question with "his crew". BB may be a lot of things, but he is not his crew.
As for Nami's part in the hint, Oda does not make many careless panels, especially not at such an important moment of establishing the relationship between Blackbeard and Luffy. SO we must ask ourselves, why would nami ask, "do you guys mean his crew", without giving an answer to her question? If Oda wasn't saying anything with that line, why not make it clearer, and why raise a question about the meaning behind Luffy/Zoro's words? This imply's that Oda is purposefully telling us, "do not get trapped thinking luffy was referring to BB crew, he's not but i won't tell you why". He also leaves this unanswered which follows the formula of many of OP greatest secrets.

I personally support this one, but I find the other theories pretty valid too.
Personally I'm still not convinced that it doesn't have anything to deal with the Yami Yami that absorbs devil fruit power. But Oda surely likes coincidences so if I had to choose an other theory it would be the berberus one.

There was a similar theory to do with Barto's chest tatoo when he first appeared, and whether that might be linked into when he used his abilities.
It turned out it was just a few mistakes by Oda being read into a bit too much.
