Up to ch. 50. The action scenes look great, the half-human, half-monster designs are cool and it's still neat that they explain all the insects.
Making you feel sorry for the characters through flashbacks, though. It feels like the Oars chapter at Marineford, except kind of a whole series of that? Just doesn't work that well. In series like these it really works better when characters are developed as a group first. Here it's a lot of individual character spotlights. It's okay overall, though. There's a little bit of simple "humanity is awesome" and it delves a little bit into that in there, which is cool, I guess.
-
Well, I'm caught up. Yeah, it's exactly what it is, humans fighting a bunch of cockroaches. There isn't much in terms of theme or anything like that, maybe just the "humanity is awesome" aspects that automatically come with the premise. About 80% of the series is explanation of techniques and just plain action. BUT that's not a bad thing at all. It's a real good action series and sometimes that's all you need for it to be entertaining. I don't think the plot is anything remarkable and so aren't the characters, as many oftheir "voices" come off as samey to me and nothing really surprised me. I was 80 chapters in when I started to care about a few characters. Michelle and Akari are a good pair. :)
For actions junkies, great, tho.
-
Really? That thing scares me. Max Factory is making a figma of the second main character (the moth guy) along with two nendos, and a GSC scaled fig of the vice captain (have you gotten that far?).
I've actually only got as far as Bugs #2….........looking foreware to starting the Annex arc.......I'm loving where this manga is going!! Truly Brutal!!
Is this the moth guy you are referring to:
I think I may invest in this line if it takes off!! -

I think I may invest in this line if it takes off!!Yes, I consider him the main character (second main overall) of the Annex arc. I recommend starting the Annex arc, imo it's where the manga takes off.

Saw the raw for chapter 106
! What happened? Did she manage to stop the China's scrambling antenna and link the Annex with the other units and the Earth?
-
I'd buy a figure of the Hornet Captain, in his transformed state. Or Michelle, actually.
But not in their regular clothes. It's a fine design, but not nearly as cool as the Bugged-up versions.
-
So can we talk about the OVA here as well? Who saw it by now? :D
-
just seen it, I like it and I want to see more lol
-
I watched and liked a lot. It was rushed, but it still showed the gore, the urgency and the peril of the situation!
-
The OVA was alright. It had some of my favourite seiyuu, so that's already a point in my book. But it also adapted the gore scenes (one of the manga's strongest suits) rather well (even though they were trying to avoid the really nasty stuff). Some of the source material was skipped but even that is to be expected with OVAs.
I do hope that the main series will look more appealing though. And that some of the scenes will have even more visual impact; similar to their manga counterparts.
-
I liked the OVA: it was rushed, but it enhanced all the pulp I wanted from terra Formars. This will probably be one of my favourite anime this year, it's been a while since I hyped up a trainwreck so much.

Yeah, I finally got around to watching the OVA the other night! I was really impressed, especially since I actually enjoyed Bugs II more than the current Annex arc….......
Can't wait for part 2!!

So when are the next chapters gonna be translated?…
-
So when are the next chapters gonna be translated?…
Based on their previous "schedule", it seems that there are 3-4 months in between each series of translated chapters. They say the volume is already ordered and on the way but they are busy with other series so I'd give it at least two months.
-
Ugh hurry up pls :~)

This manga must be pretty generic if something effort-less like gore is one of it's strongest points .
-
^SNK and Tokyo Ghoul say hi.
-
Who said Tokyo Ghoul isn't generic ? Gore doesn't = good . Many writers use it nowadays to hide their weakass writing .
-
Yep, tokyo ghoul and AoT are no masterpieces either.
-
But neither is a blind gorefest like Terraformars is. (Burrn.. jk, people have their opinions) Hell, the stuff in AoT isn't even that extreme. In Tokyo Ghoul, it definitely is, looking at all the censorship. But both stories have a heart aside from that, tho. Yeah, I watched some of Tokyo Ghoul, so I thought I'd contribute. I like it.
-
it's not the gore that I like in Terraformars, but the impact that the action has, and the build-up achieved by the calm, HxH-esque narration of the animal's powers.
Pistol Shrimp guy's fight had me in goosebumps.
-
Yeah, I think the fights are pretty good in that sense - the way the abilities are done, they all look unique and are explained in detail.
-
It's actually not that gory
It starts with a lot of gore at beginning, because it kinda tries to set up the same hopeless atmosphere as AoT (which I assume is often compared because they both feature malevolent forces who can't be reasoned with) but it really becomes less as the series goes on, because the people confronting the roaches (team annex) are immensely more capable than the Bugs 1 & 2 teams
also to get a point across; these evolved roaches can smash you just like a bug. Seeing a giant man roach cleave through a human with his bare hands is just so much more terrifying and effective at showing that gap of strength
but more than that, this is definitely a show for bug enthusiast, the display and ideas for the bug abilites and how they apply to humans is very imaginative, fun and well drawn, although of course completely and utterly senseless just like the SciFi component of the series - but hey, that's like the most unfair thing to criticize a comic or movie for, like shitting on the fantastic four for not realistic displaying the effects of cosmic radiation or something like that -
Terra Formars Gaiden: Rain Hard preview. New spin-off about Adolf in Ultra Jump #11 (by Satoshi Kimura).
-
Crunchyroll announced yesterday that they are simulcasting the Terra ForMars anime. The first episode is out for anyone interested.
This'll be my first exposure to the series, so hoping for the best.
-
I just saw the episode is out, would you lot recommend me watching it? I know it may differ from the manga, but would you say it's worth it to give it a go?

It's a good action manga with some political stuff here and there and a kinda interesting plot.
It's mostly about the action which is good atleast in the manga.
From the OVA (which had the same director) one can tell that it might live up to people's expectations, the OVA was a good preview of what's coming.
-
!
This is how gory scenes look in the first episode. -
Don't know how it compares to the manga, but I certainly enjoyed the first episode. Although that censoring is really bad. And adolf and eva, really? Oh japan.^^
-
…sigh
Is the art and animation at least decent?
but yeah, I always had a feeling that this might end up as censorship: the anime
Otherwise it would be a faithful adaption, and we can't fucking have that unless madhouse does something, don't we? -_- -
The art was…weird.
I really don't know what it was but something felt off, it's like the artists still aren't used to the art or something; the faces/features were weirdly shaped, it might be just me though.
The first scene had many face shot stills (emphasis on many) and only eyes/mouths were animated in a very bad way (i'm no animator and i don't know if there's a name to it but for example the eyes, instead of getting animated normally with different frames, were just twisted and the effect was horrible to watch).
I'm really perplexed about this episode so i'll give it some time.

I haven't read the manga, but from what I've heard, some of the stuff could never make it to TV without censorship. Just hope that the BD release comes fully uncensored, which is possible.
Hunter x Hunter had censorship before the good choice to change the timeslot (but that was 99 episodes in!)
Here's a question though: I read about a few OVAs that were made earlier this year. I'm guessing those need to be watched since it seems the series isn't starting from the first chapter?
-
In the end it might be better to wait for blu ray release to watch it uncensored or just ignore that have half the screen is black during gory scenes. Although I don't know how much there will be in this series. Jojo had same censoring and was still enjoyable when it was airing.
I think the ova or ovas were prequels, so it might be helpfull to watch them as well, which I am going to.

Jojo didn't have half black half white screen lol, atleast we saw something.
And the ova was a short summary of the prequel, they are skipping a lot of stuff and the pacing is very fast. It's confusing if you didn't read the manga beforehand, maybe we'll have the actual prequel as a series of flashback episodes.
-
I understand why the cage fight was censorship, because of animal abuse, tbh Im not really a fan of it so the censorship didnt bother me. Episode was fine because I found Michelle, Alex and Marcos entertaining characters.
-
Whoa this is what they do now to anime? im not sure how people would enjoy watching a black and white screen for almost a minute, but still it serves to raise the popularity so doesnt matter.
Now spoiler for the 112 are out and man finally they have arrived
!
Hopefully that anime help to get more people work in the manga.
-
By the way, is there any site that has chapters 86 and onwards translated?

Highly unlikely, unless another group picked it up.

Yeah… I thought that with the anime someone might have picked it up, like what happened with Tokyo Ghoul.
-
Yeah… I thought that with the anime someone might have picked it up, like what happened with Tokyo Ghoul.
It's still early (in regards to the anime) but I also hope someone else picks it up. Nothing personal against the current scanlators but weekly chapters would be nice and they seem overwhelmed with other series.
-
Well the second episode got released and the opening is pretty good, and the episode overall was nice.
But damn the censorship is pretty harsh.
-

Well, it's only the second episode but is it deal breaking?
-

Half the screen being black, yeah I would say it is crappy. I will probably wait for bd release.
-
^ What he said, when the censorship is that big the chances of it being toned are pretty slim.
-
This episode has got me hooked. I will definitely start reading the manga, feels like I've been missing out on a lot.
Lots of censorship though, I don't quite like it but will manage. I'm dying to know how those insects got into the ship and what's about to follow.
-
Yeah, lots of censorship in the 2nd episode, I wonder if there is gonna be a stream that will air TF uncensored.
-
Episode 2 really had me hooked and interested. That was, until half the screen turned black. They weren't even trying to hide the fact that it's censorship. Probably one of the most jarring examples of it I've seen in a while.
-
Yeah, they could at least have done it like jojo for example where they blackened the things out but not by just covering half the screen.
