Six days left until Hanamonogatari…

Aldnoah ep 6: better than 5, with more than enough Marito to make me want to watch the next ep at least. As usual I found it difficult to pay attention to the other things going on, but at this point I'm just gonna accept that and not really try to understand the storyline. It's not that difficult to understand; I just don't care about the rest of the show enough. Guess I don't mind, as long as Marito lives. I'm seeing some dislike of him on MAL though, which is kinda sad because I don't find him half as annoying as some other characters. When somebody's got a legitimate reason to be angsty and basically useless like he does, I can't find them irritating unless they're that way for the whole show and never change. Hope that won't happen to him.
Also I think I've finally figured out why I'm not that big of a fan of Aldnoah's soundtrack. Been paying more attention to the songs, and I think a lot of it sounds…lifeless. Might be because I technically don't care for the show, or because the soundtrack style is similar to SnK, but I'm not getting any soul or passion from the music at all. It's like it was put together with a formula for musical success or something.
Basara ep 6: MUCH better than 5. I really enjoyed this one, magical girl shrine maiden aside. We get Mitsunari vs Yukimura, Masamune vs Ieyasu, Kojuurou being great, Motochika also being great, and that dude on the floating platform showing up unexpectedly; all the recipes for success in my book. As usual, I spent the whole episode laughing at everything, and again I really think the fight scenes are choreographed beautifully. There are a lot of things I prefer about the first two seasons, but from what I remember about them, this season's got them beat for fights.
I'm three episodes behind on Barakamon now...not sure why I haven't watched the rest. Also missed last week's Gekkan Shoujo, so I need to watch that before tomorrow's ep.
-
^I'm four episodes behind on Barakamon because I refuse to watch any other group's release.
Aldnoah Zero is making me feel Urobuchi's absence more and more. The episode was gruesome to watch. Marito keeps being a wuss, unable to do jackshit. Tbh, when sexy voice-chan attacked with her spider Cataphract and had her attacks deflected I was sure it was Marito who managed to grow a pair. But nope, it was MC-kun again saving the day. After having given up all hope that Marito would ever be useful, MC-kun got in sticky situation and needed help- in other words the perfect opportunity for drunk ass-kun to shine- BUT was saved by blonde guy and his space battleship. And let's not even mention the utterly useless military present on the ship who are rendered useless by a high school buy smart enough to think a second before jumping head-on into battle.
Somewhere in the episode a Russia HQ was mentioned which gives me a bit of hope. After all the Martians landed in a number of countries all around the world. Being a bit realistic here, that should mean that virtually all of the world's countries are out for blood; opting to execute revenge on those cocky space mongrels. Now where am I going with this? Could this mean that due to the war being global other countries' fighters (or youths since, well, anime logic) will join MC-kun and co? Will we get to see brilliant soldiers from all around the world, working together with Japan to come up with successful and original tactics to overthrow those overpowered overlords (ha, good phrase I came up with there isn't it)? I mean, that would make this otherwise bland mecha anime into quite the show and light up my interest for AZ again.
Last week both Dia no A and AZ bored me while this week it's the former kicking the latter's ass in terms of entertainment.I wish I could see a show of Urobuchi again that he works on till the end. Him jumping around anime, leaving a bit of his charm here and there just ain't cutting it. F/Z and Madoka were masterfully done shows because Gen worked full-time on them. I sincerely want to feel that experience again- be at the edge of my seat due to the scenario coming out of Urobuchi's pen. I mean there's this but still…
Edit: Zankyou no Terror keeps getting better and better. Yet another exciting episode this week. Five is deliciously evil.
I do wonder if 6 episodes will be enough to lead this anime to a satisfying conclusion... If Five remains the only new character and the other episodes are dedicated to a game of tag between her and the two protagonists (with crucial roles played by Lisa and Shibazaki somewhere in between) I suppose it might just work. At any rate, this is shaping up to be my personal anime of the season. -
Aldonoah Zero. Another set-up episode, a little bit is spent with each character. It was okay, I guess. Once again, will this set-up lead to something good? Hopefully.
It wasn't Inaho saving them, though. It was Slaine that showed up to save them.

First it was MC-kun, then blonde guy. Both can be considered this episode's "heroes".
-
Oh kinda, I liked that Slaine was the one that actually saved them in the end, though. It wasn't Inaho's plan this time, even if it was kinda out of nowhere? I mean there was the scene of him escaping, but that's it.

After watching a few more episodes, I slightly updated my ranking :
- High : Akama ga Kill!, Aldnoah, Tokyo Ghoul, SAO S2, Zankyou no Terror
- Mid : Free S2, Space Dandy S2, Nobunaga Concerto (+1), Tokyo ESP (-1)
- Low : Argevollen (-1)
A few thoughts :
- I enjoyed the latest episode of Aldnoah. I like where this is going. Don't see any drop in quality.
- I'm skipping every posts discussing Tokyo Ghoul to remain unbiased. As an anime-only watcher right now, I find it awesome.
- Nobunaga Concerto is getting better and better.
- Although I ranked it "Low" this time, I have the feeling that Argevollen will be more interesting soon. At least, I really hope so.
- Zankyou no Terror is great. Only one nitpicking : I don't get the point of the protagonists going to school in the first episode.
About other anime which started another season :
- Pierrot is doing a fine job with Baby Steps. I was worried but I liked what they did. I hope a 2nd season will be announced soon since the best match won't get covered in the first one.
- M3 is getting more interesting. I'm glad I didn't drop it.
- Haikyu is great but I'm slightly disappointed by how they animated some of my favorite moments (Nishinoya related). It was fine but I pictured something more epic coming from I.G.
-

They wouldn't have met Lisa otherwise. And to seem like normal boys I guess?
-
They wouldn't have met Lisa otherwise. And to seem like normal boys I guess?
I don't see how coming to school could help in their plan. It's not like they did anything at school to build an alibi.
So, I'm guessing the answer is "Because of plot". -
I really like the Barakamon manga. It reminds me alot of Yotsuba and the anime piqued my interest. Anyone follow it? I'm curious if the animation is any good.
-

I would assume that it's part of their disguise. If they were investigated under suspicion of being the terrorists, they would need some kind of identity other then "our names are Nine and Twelve, no I'm not joking, we live alone and don't have any social responsibilities or connections".

Remember the first bomb. They set it during a school trip. So alibi I guess.

Changed my mind about Akame Ga Kill, I like it now, Episode 6 made me a fan of the series.
-
I really like the Barakamon manga. It reminds me alot of Yotsuba and the anime piqued my interest. Anyone follow it? I'm curious if the animation is any good.
Yeah got the same vibe from it when I read it a few months back, I really liked it. Naru brings the Yotsuba vibe while Handa brings the Hachiken(Silver Spoon).
As for the anime it's fun I think the animation is fine. It might be just my imagination but I swear I think they even animate Naru in a subtly different way which gives a contrast to all the other characters and makes her come off as extra adorable.I only watched the first 3 episodes though and stopped but not because I didn't like it but more because I read very far into the series and it's still very fresh in my memory. I'm just not in the mood to follow it weekly and there's just no that feeling that I have to see a certain scene animated. I plan on binge watching once the whole season is out.
-
Akame Ga Kill 6: the fight choreography wasn't half bad, to the exception of the body modification at the end LoL. It wasn't a bad idea, but it felt more random than surprising.
But the dialogues of this serie are really a joke. Everytime they go on the morally ambiguous subjects I start laughing. It's really badly written in my opinion.! For me the good guys are just a bunch of cold-blooded killers, so yeah I hardly felt anything during Ryuko's death scene.
-
Akame Ga Kill seems like a nice ''pop corn show''. It isn't anything special, but it's still entertaining enough.
That being said, it does also seem like it's aimed at teenagers who think that violence=mature. It's really just a shonen, an ultra-violent shonen, but still a shonen. Also, on the topic of SAO2, would you say that the second season is…
1. Worth watching, if only for lulz
2. Legitimately good and worth checking out
3. Worth a skip.
? -
It's okay. It's not as bad as the latter half as the first season, but nothing remarkable either.
-
SOA is far from being my favorite anime. But when I watch it, I just feel relaxed. Dunno why, it's almost like it's good for my health. :wassat:
Maybe it has some subliminal message in it. -
It's very easy to watch (and read) and it has well-animated action. Some really bad stuff in there, too, though. Particularly all the gross stuff in the second half of season 1, maybe even the whole premise of it.
-
I personally prefer the SAO Abridged series to be completely honest.
Abridged Kirito is a god amongst men!
-
I don't understand why people think that SAO 1st season 2nd part is worse than the 1st part. The 2nd part is hundred of times better than the 1st one. Of course that is not saying much giving that the 1st one is pretty horrible, making the 2nd simple bad.
-
The 2nd part is considerably worse because of what it did to Asuna. She was at least a little bit of her own person in Aincrad and the filler with the other girls might be bland, but it really isn't downright disgusting. Okay, she gets kidnapped, you'd think I'd be just standard shounen stuff. But not really. The latter half goes to downright gross territories with incest and tentacle groping of Asuna.
-
The thing with Alfheim is that I was expecting it to be horrible when I watched so it came off as entertaining. Leaving the incest apart, Suguha's character was decently developed.

What WAS her character aside from her accidental crush on Kirito, exactly? There's literally nothing else to her.

**>Baaaaaawwww onii-chan won't love me because he already has a girlfriend
Well, it's okay. I still have that cool and nice guy I met in an online game** >BAAAAAAWWWWWWWWW HE'S ACTUALLY MY ONII-CHAN
Her character is the author going "Big boobs and incest sells"
-
Asuna in SAO sort of has the same problem, but she at least has some competency as a fighter. ALO was really bad and, really had no reason to exist. It could've gone straight to GGO and nothing would've basically changed.
-

In reality the worst thing of the 2nd part is Asuna parents selling her when she was in Coma! But just because of those bad themes it doesn't make it automatically worse. 1st part is totally nonsensical in terms of plot and themes and the flow of the story is totally erratic. The 2nd part at least keeps with the themes and plot and the flow of the story is good.
The 2nd part really shows how the author improved as a writer. In the first part he seems just a fanfiction writer that knows nothing of nothing and is just writing about the first thing that it comes to his mind. In the second part he starts to get consistent about his writing, even though the things he writes are totally shit!Asuna was already a pretty bad character in the first part, the second part didn't do anything with her, something that I would call great. In the 1st part not only she was a noob, but for plot reasons was a really great player, but she got in love with Kirito just because he gave her a bread with cream.
She than becomes the vice-captain of her guild, but is stalked by her own bodyguard, and needs the help of Kirito. Being a damsel in distress that always asks for her prince help, when supposedly she is a really strong and independent woman is way worse than being captured by tentacles in a game. In the tentacles scene I just laughed my ass of, because it was pure stupid fanservice, but the damsel in distress I took it as being really offensive.
And then they became a couple and turn, what 2 or 3 episodes?, of what was already bad episodes into horrible episodes of waifu and husbando in an MMORPG when their lives are at extremely huge risk and the clock is ticking, and find an artificial daughter. OMG just remembering hurts. And after that she never turns back from her Waifu self. The incest wasn't even a big issue. First there wasn't really incest, because she liked him but he didn't and so it was never a relationship there. Second SAO is a totally Harem story. All the girls will fall in love with Kirito for no reason whatsoever(Asuna->bread with cream, Shy girl-> No fucking reason, she talked with him about being afraid of dying, Loli with dragon-> He told that she looked like her sister, Swordsmith-> went with him searching for materials for the sword, …). I prefer that it was just one girl falling in love with him in the second part(Sister/Cousin -> when he was in coma) instead of a stream of nonsensical girls falling in love(Even thought in second part his sister fall for him 2 times). Just like fanservice, Incest is a fetish that the Otaku readers/watchers have, is easy to disregard. The story didn't even focused much on that. So it was everything OK. Even tough it was stupid that she felt in love with him two times, one when he was in coma and the other in the game when he was looking for Asuna(I don't even know how she didn't noticed that it was him in the game. While she was different in the game he was almost the same).
One more thing about the tentacles. Why is the tentacles so disgusting in part 2 when in part 1 there is a plant with vines/tentacles trying to "rape" a Loli. How are them different?
One more thing about the incest. Why is the incest so disgusting in part 2 when in part 1 the Loli that was "like his sister" was in love with him as well. How are them different? Both parts have stupid content and Otaku pandering! But 1st part makes no fucking sense: like taking 2 years to pass a game when they are playing it 24 hours a day. They needing to pass the game to survive, but being more preoccupied with the Beta testers. Doesn't gives potion to the guy dying, because ..., Receives two sword wield technique from his ass. Destroys the rules of the game. Bad guy doesn't even remember why he is a bad guy. Bad guy now is a cool guy for the main character(I believe Kishimoto took the idea from Sword Art Online), Girls magnet, jumping huge junks of time.

They literally made Asuna into an object to be won and straight up sexualized her being abused, there's even toys of her in the cage like what the villain did in the final episodes. Eugh. There was nothing that awful in the first half, even the stuff with the young girl wasn't that awful, though still pretty gross. With Asuna the camera really focused on making sure just to see her squirming in every possible way. The first half mostly had hand-holding, like the episode with Lizbeth was or panty-shots or boob jokes, which isn't that uncommon in shounen, it didn't really disgust me in so many ways, even if the stuff with Yui and then the time in cabin was stupid and rushed, it wasn't gross. Incest is a pretty big issue, especially since there's no reason for it to be there. It didn't serve to make any point, as it rarely does in any of the shows that go there. Hell, there was no reason for Lyfa to even exist. It's just the most transparent fetishizing. While the first part has a lot of problems in it's story and characters, clearly was harem-y and wierd otaku fanservice it had at least some tension because of the danger of losing lives, too, it had a lot better fight animation and the fanservice wasn't straight-up grossing me out most of the time. It's mostly a generic, if well-animated shounen in it's first half.

Why are you always using the shounen categorization? By saying shounen what are you really saying? I don't really understand!
It seems you have big problems with incest, the way Asuna was objectified and it seems like Asuna was a character that you really liked, and so her objectification is a big deal for you.
Note that the kind of objectification that she had in the second part is the same that a fairy tail princess closed in a castle has. So I don't see the problem of objectification here, but well, different opinions. It seems for you her being in a cage is worse than her parents give her into marriage when she is in Coma. That yes, is straight up objectification.
The hint of Incest is as unnecessary as any of the love interests in Sword Art Online so I don't see the problem. Basically you can just think of her as a friend that lived with him, for any given reason(Like they were in high school far away from home and so they shared the house. Did you Noticed how their parents never appeared in the story?), in reality is not really incest given that she was in reality his Cousin(something that the author invented to circumvent the problem of incest that he purposely made), and so not incest.
I don't see how jumping around between timelines and forgetting the emergency and danger of the premise(life or death situation with a short time limit) is a generic characteristic! -
there's even toys of her in the cage like what the villain did in the final episodes. Eugh.
Seriously? That's fucked up.
-
I don't particularly care for Asuna that much, maybe her focus novel, but other than that..ehh. I suppose I bring the shounen thing up because I mean the general battle shounen thing. Like OP or Magi etc. It just doesn't gross me out that much if it's more simple like that. I dropped FT a while ago because of how bad the subtext and and how disgusting the fanservice got. I didn't really mention anything about the marriage thing, but that's pretty bad, too. But it just adds even more to the awfulness of the second part. The little girl really wasn't important, but she was there for a single episode and it never got as wierd and gross as it got in the last episodes. Yes it was still very obvious self-insertion and stuff, but considerably more tame. The second part basically had the same problems, but even worse and both parts didn't particularly shine on the writing department.
Seriously? That's fucked up.
!
Compare the last episodes of ALO to anything in GGO so far, for example. That's what I mean.
-
What WAS her character aside from her accidental crush on Kirito, exactly? There's literally nothing else to her.
No there isn't anything more. She's just a naïve girl that foolishly fell in love with her brother/cousin and ultimatelly suffered because he didn't love her back.
It's not anything groundbreaking, just a tragic character designed only to appeal to a certain audience. Asuna got a much worse treatment. -
So how does Sinon compare to last show's damsels?
-
So how does Sinon compare to last show's damsels?
You could describe her character without mentioning Kirito. He's still part of her development, but it's not the only thing about her.
-
Well Sinon has been by far the best SAO girl, even if she lost to Kirito due to feeling pity for him thus wasting almost all her sniper bullets. She has a sad backstory, a personality that is different from Sugu, Silica and that pink haired chick(forgot her name).
please no Manga Spoilers

If Studio Pierrot would just never touch anything I like ever again, that'd be great.
Well I have egg on my face now, I only just realised Pierrot are doing Sabagebu! which is great. I'm sorry for ever thinking Pierrot was on Toei's level of garbage.

Well while the only 2 things that Pierrot right now is doing well is Baby Steps and Sabagebu! Toei is doing Matsutarou, Majin Bone, Marvel Disk Warriors, Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbo Returns, Happiness Precure and Sailor Moon! Yep, 6 great titles!
One Piece Toei adaptation is a lot better than Pierrot Naruto adaptation(well, Naruto source material is horrible as well, so…).
Also while it can be said that lately Toei made a bad adaptation of Toriko, Pierrot at least lately made a bad adaptation of Tokyo Ghoul, Kingdom and Beelzebub.Pierrot is not on the Level of Toei, is way, but way way lower!

Sawano strikes again with his wierd naming! Aldonoah Zero OST preview, some very memorable tracks aside from the remixes of aLIEz in there.

Well of the 6 titles you listed I've only seen Sailor Moon Crystal, Happiness Precure and Matsutarou, and I wouldn't call any of them great, especially not Matsutarou. I personally wouldn't say Toei's handling of One Piece has been any better than Pierrot's handling of Naruto and I can't really judge the Beelzebub adaptation either because I didn't like the manga in the first place. But you're right I forgot how bad Kingdom was back into the trash Pierrot goes.
I get that Toei manage to juggle a lot of different shows for different audiences but I've been disappointed by them so many times that I can't help but view them in the same light as Pierrot in that I don't have faith in either of them. At least there is always based Sunrise.

How many episodes have you seen of Matsutarou? I'm liking to watch it every week a lot more than the majority of the other series.
Toei decided to make in canon fillers in One Piece instead of making long horrible fillers arcs, like in Naruto. The thing with filler arcs problem is that it doesn't improve the pacing that much. Given that Toei is also a lot better at making fillers and dragging stuff up than Pierrot, both in canon and filler arcs, makes the handling of One Piece a lot better. Ah, and the fact that a One Piece chapter has 2 or 3 times more events than Naruto, makes that a 1 chapter per episode adaptation in One Piece has the same content as a 2-3 chapters Naruto adaptation, really! Some Naruto episodes adapt 2 to 3 chapters and they still have a lot of dragged out content, and the content is so badly dragged out that I already gave up a dozen of times of the anime, right now I'm not even watching it!
Beelzebub anime was simply a failure!
About disappointment, probably as more to do with their decision of making series long running. A long running series most of the times is directed to casual watchers, the budget to those series, both money and manpower, is managed in quite a different way than the short running anime. All of those factors make the series being pretty inconsistent in terms of animation quality and style. Also Toei has a good thing, they seem to have good scriptwriters and directors that know where to direct their budget(money and manpower), the bad thing is that in the places with less budget it doesn't even seems like they are making any kind of effort. The quality drops so much that is abysmal. At least that seem to be an indicative that they don't force their workers to overexert themselves.
Toei still has some short running anime with pretty good and consistent animation quality and style: Precure, Sailor Moon and Kindaichi Shounen are the current ones, but they also made Kyousougiga and a lot others.
Yep, some people don't like the use of 3D in the new Precure and in Sailor Moon, but it seems that Toei is trying to get(or already getting) into 3D animation, given that they are trying to use every kind of 3D everywhere: One Piece Movie Z, Captain Harlock Movie, Saint Seya Movie, Majin Bone, … But let me tell you that no use of 3D by Toei was so badly produced and placed as in Kingdom, by Pierrot. -
Hanamonogatari is airing tomorrow guys. Stay tuned for an epic time.
-
One Piece Toei adaptation is a lot better than Pierrot Naruto adaptation(well, Naruto source material is horrible as well, so…).
I would argue that the only thing hampering down the Naruto adaption is the sauce material, and also the fact that they don't just take breaks. For a weekly animation, they're pretty decent, although obviously they're not great
looks to the amazing Hunter x Hunter adaption by Madhouse

About time. Love the series, though I must admit that I do not like Kanbaru at all. Never enjoyed the episodes involving her, hopefully this changes.

Madhouse is an excellent small studio that is focused in consistent high quality content(they don't have some of the horrible directors and animators that Toei and Pierrot have, probably because they are a small company that guarantees that all their personal is high quality) and that decided to make the series because they would have no problem of pacing whatsoever, because all the content was already there.
Also I believe that the production team or teams responsible for HunterxHunter are basically killing themselves to be able to provide that much quality content every week, or they are using excellent shortcut techniques, making it seems they produce a lot of content but in reality they aren't. I believe I heard something like that about Hunter x Hunter animation.
In the end, yep Madhouse is doing an amazing job with a long running anime, but I don't believe they would do any other long running, at least not any one still unfinished. -
HANAMONOGATARI IS OUT MOTHERFUCKERS!!!!!
-
Aldnoah Zero I liked the interaction and team-up between Inaho and Slaine. Also, that they weren't the ones to finish the enemy. The thing with Tanegashima was contstantly brought up by Marito's flashbacks so it's fine.
Zankyou no Terror Mostly set-up, not much to say really.
SAO continues to be just average and that's fine. Again better than anything the second half of the first season did. Again, I like that Kirito's issues get this spotlight. But then the episode started with Suguha and another reminder that ALO exists. :( -
Was AZ's episode better than last week's? Because I really don't feel like watching it and will only do so if it's worth it.

I liked it better then the previous two, at least, it sort of threw a wrench in the formula.
