So after I listened to Wagomu's Epicloud track from above, I decided to give more of them a listen. And from what I've heard, I would definitely say that Kingdom is my favorite of the bunch. That epic feeling that I found in Grace is very much alive in this song as well. The vocals combine very nicely, and the instruments back it up well. I have to admit, this isn't a genre of metal I normally listen to, but it spins it in just the right way that it really appeals to me. Great song.

Ah, Rammstein. You know, I'm not sure if I've ever actually listened to these guys. I'll admit, I'm not as well-versed in metal as other people, but to me they sound kind of like a German Metallica. And I'm not just saying that because, "Hey, they're metal." Their instrumental style does seem reminiscent of Metallica. Also, something I noticed is that the singer's vocals sounded really crisp in comparison to the instrumentals. It's a bit distracting, but not a dealbreaker. Anyway, it was a really intense and catchy metal song that got the blood pumping and that's cool in my book. Great choice.
-
I have listened to these guys a little before, since I had heard their hit "Come on Eileen" on the television series "Spaced".
They are great. The song is great. And Nobodyman is great for listening to them. :)
Might be I like their more… energetic... songs better. Still.
Had to look up the lyrics, not really surprised about that. Hahaha. :)
Checking up on them I found out they have reunited and released a new album this year. Man, I'm so behind the curve. >_>Alvin Lucier - Hymn

Wow, that was really interesting.
I had no clue what she was even doing but it was intense to watch her setting up the wires with such concentration.
Maybe i'm just an uncultured idiot and the point has flown wayyy over my head, but i plumb didn't understand what was going on.
I fully respect her dedication though, and i like how the finished product looked like a spider web (if that's what she was going for) -
Very catchy, for some reason it reminds me a ton of some less than jake songs. That said I'm kind of bad right now with these hoarse voices. They always require me to have a certain mood to appreciate them. I'm listening right now mostly to singers with admittingly not necessarily very unique harmonic smooth voices.
The picture also cracks me up it breaks the image of what we have of suit wearing people. -
That was a pretty cool song. The band's got a cool, clean, 90's style sound, kind of like Barenaked Ladies (who are, of course, geeky as well), and I think it's pretty clear these guys are meant to appeal to the nerd crowd (yeah, like the lyrics weren't a dead give away). And, of course, I love the used of 8 bit sound bytes. I might have to check these guys out. Good choice.
-
That was okay. I liked the part after about 1:30 best. Very cheesy lyrics as far as I can tell. For me the song was missing the catchy tune to make it a good song to listen over and over again to. The spoken part at the end was weird…
-
Unfortunately, I mostly just found that annoying. I mean, I don't really have anything against beatboxing, but that one just seemed to push all the right buttons, I guess. If this were the normal "What are you listening to?" thread, I would have stopped it. Thankfully it wasn't too long, because it would have been hard for me to take much more. Sorry!
-
This guy has a nice singing voice which saves this song for me. It feels like the lyrics clash with the rest of the song. The lyrics are about a man begging his partner not to leave him… But the song seems very happy. :S Still, as I said, the singing is good so that's a plus, the instrumentation isn't very far out there but solid.
So! In conclusion, I'll give the song 5.863 out of 10 points on the goodness-axis. :VJ.A. Caesar - Echigo Tsutsuishi Oyashirazu

Well, I certainly didn't expect that. That really is not quite like anything I've ever heard, so I am glad I listened to it just for the experience. The beginning was pretty trippy with the slow and erratic string instruments, and the vocal part was pretty cool too. Yes, it's got that classic Japanese soudn, but for some reason, to me, it also sounds like there's a bit of Indian thrown in there (maybe it's the singers voice). Anyway, that was definitely an enjoyable and well-constructed song. Perhaps a bit slow for my taste, but not a bad song by any means. Thank you for a unique experience.
-
Nice tune. I don't listen to music from before the 80's much, but I definitely enjoy this track. The vocals are calm and relaxing, and the instruments supplement it to create a gentle atmosphere. The chorus is pretty catchy too. Enjoyable listen, nice pick.
Also, I went to Wikipedia to look up more on the band while I was listening to the song. I stared at that logo for about five seconds thinking it was the GE logo.
-
I remember hearing that on the Bing commercial and finding it catchy.
It was pretty interesting to listen to the full thing.
The song builds a nice atmosphere around itself as it plays out and there's something about the guy's voice that i love.
Overall it's an engagingly smooth song which i wouldn't mind having on my ipod for long journeys. And now for a dose of activism.
-
I've never heard these guys before. Judging from this song they are the kind that are very involved in causes. Which is nice of course. :) And I can see it's purpose in music, with songs as these. The problem is… I'm not interested in listening to it. Not really, not in my music.
As for the song from a musical perspective, it's so-so I guess. Kinda boring but not bad or anything. Well, still, I like it because they are trying to help. And if music can help, huzzah! :)Zu - Beata Viscera
-
My first impression was that that was really, really cool… as was my second. I was sold on it immediately! Those drums at the the start kick all of the ass. As a matter of fact, it reminded me quite a bit of the more 'out there' stuff on the Trigun soundtrack, and that's a good thing! I'm definitely interested in checking out more of their music. I loved the frantic feeling of it. So cool.

Haven't listened much to Billy Joel. It's you know, a name you hear from time to time. I figured I should have listened more to him, so it's good to hear a song from him that isn't one of his big hits. 'Cause, those I have heard.
I think this one have a more rocky feel than his more famous songs. It doesn't really make me want to pick up and go through his albums. That might because I'm kinda saturated with rock, it's not through any fault of the song anyway.
Lyric wise it seems to be about a guy dealing and coping with life. Billy, through his singing, doesn't convey a man close to the borderline… More like a guy that's slightly pissed but grinding his teeth. Something like that. :) Well, that's what I took away from it anyways.Jandek - Unconditional Authority

Hmm, very interesting acoustics going on in this song. To be honest though, it's not really my cup tea. The instruments (or instrument) and the echo-y hollow-y acoustics just make it sound more like noise than anything. As for singer, eh, I dunno. I voice is nice I guess, but it doesn't really stand out to me. I suppose if you combined all these somehow it could make for an interesting song. But as it is now; nope, sorry. Not for me.
-
Nirvana: Need I say more? Not my favorite song by Nirvana (not a huge acoustic fan), however, I still really like it. From the instrumentation to the 'vocalization', everything flows so well together and creates a really nice, 'chill' experience (as expected from a Nirvana song). I wish Kurt Cobain were still alive…sigh

I found it an interesting song, at least in the context of metal music. The instruments are all doing something and not just limping along. The singing is also quite varied, going from classical metal singing to growling and other… I have the feeling that the vocals are detracting a little from the instruments, but that might be because I'm not that into the message of the lyrics... For once I understand them and they are quite pessimistic. I usually have a hard time listening to pessimistic stuff. :P
But a big plus for using aliens in the lyrics! Aliens are always a big plus! :)
And another one for using the word "bloviate". Hahaha. :)Kurt Schwitters - Ursonate
-
I wrote up some initial comments when still listening to the piece, but they all proved to be irrelevant when I found out that it's actually an experimental poem. It's amazing what a little contextual framing can do, haha. It's an interesting take on the arbitrary nature of language and the true intent of poetry. Poetry really has two shades: one that focuses on the beauty of words and one that finds beauty in meaning. This dude made a piece built purely from the former. By doing that, it sort of approaches the uncanny valley of music. It is centered on sound, yet not quite willing to compose itself as a song, so together the piece is kind of clumsy. At the very least, though, it makes a cool artistic statement.
-
The song you posted as a very 'avant-garde feel' to it, something, which, I'm usually not that big a fan of. However, like I do with most every song (of most every genre), I listen to the song at least once (possibly twice) to see if I like it or not–and in the case with the song you posted, I do like it! I liked the instrumentation, I thought it was very well done and 'chill', and the vocals complemented it nicely. I didn't really understand what was being said, though, that more than likely isn't the point of the song--the point seems to be the instrumentation (which was great). Nice song overall, Wagomu!

I really like this song. It has the feeling of just being that great hardcore but still somewhat peaceful kind of song. Just some kind of harmony I have listening to the song. I really appreciate that in most songs. Though Death Metal isn't exactly my cup of tea, I found myself sucked into the song and didn't even realize I was nearly at the 5 minute mark. Seems like I found a new band to gain interest in and possibly put on my phone.

The first reaction I had when I heard the guys voice was "Damn, he sounds like the the guy from System of a Down". Even other than the voice, the song itself sounds a lot like SOAD. The one thing I noticed more than anything else about the song, are the lyrics. I really feel as though this guy has some meaningful things to stay. I get a very environmentalist vibe from the song. The song itself is very catchy, I felt myself nodding my head during the more exciting parts. Really enjoyed this song.
-
The beat is mostly a simple guitar melody with some clapping. It would grow boring quickly without the rapping. Not much more to say about it…
The lyrics feels very melancholic, as does the rapping. Especially the refrain has that sort of feeling to it.
The lyrics are very allegorical but quite understandable. They are very apathetic in attitude and how the days are all the same. How you escape this with drugs, alcohol and TV. Kinda common subject but it's packaged good enough that I won't freak out at it or anything. :)
Also, if there were a music video to this it would be the rappers in like boring jobs, like sitting in a cubicle, and mostly gray everywhere... Except like a bottle of whiskey which have a nice warm color. Uh... I'm going of on a tangent here. Never mind. :PHermeto Pascoal - Quebrando Tudo

What did I just watch… lolz...
First and foremost, I just have to say that guy--that guy on the keyboard--has AMAZING hair/facial hair; probably one of my favorite parts of the entire 'experience'. The instrumentation of the song was pretty amazing too--quite technical, which I like--but the vocalization...not so much. If the guy was saying anything I understood none of it (but maybe that's because the song is in a different language than my own?). So yeah... Not sure what to think or say, really. (I suppose I don't have any room to talk though, I listen to music somewhat similar from time-to-time).

That was a good listen. Standard metal fare, so nothing really to complain about from me. If I had to nitpick something, it would probably be that I'm not a big fan of growling vocals, so that didn't really do much for me. The instrumentation however was great. Fast paced and a lot of fun. Enjoyable song, nice pick.
-
Yeah, this is very soundtracky. The composition is cool-sounding and all, but I can't help but feel that it falls a bit flat. It seems like it wants to build tension, but there's no adrenaline to it. It just gets a bit impatient with its themes and never broods around in them. Then it just sort of sort of backs out by the end with random guitar solo. It sounds nice by itself and I'm sure its flaws wouldn't be noticed during gameplay, but I don't think it would provide much besides a better alternative to silence. Sorry, not doing it for me.
-
Ha I usually hang out around prog when it comes to metal, and you can't have a good song unless it takes you on a 10-minute+ adventure! Enslaved also tends to lean on the cleaner side of vocals so it was easier to follow along their story. (Didn't really have to look up lyrics.) I remember hearing that one of the reasons that Enslaved got into music was to express a rekindling for early Norwegian culture, prior to Christianity. And you feel that here as they paint a good sense of time and scenery. Really like 4:13 - 6:49, good riffs and energy. This your favorite track off the album?
Posting a short song after a this long one then, and it also happens to be my morning alarm right now. Can't find it on youtube though.

Wow, yeah that was short. :V A little to short honestly. It feels more as a part of a song than something that stands on its own. Maybe the end of a song, I get sort of a indistinct feeling that it is collapsing. In its short time there's a lot of stuff happening though. I had to listen through it several times to get them somewhat straightened out in my head. Well, so that's good. I guess I could give some other of their songs a try…

Woah, that's really different. I felt like I was in an eccentric coffee shop…but it also kinda gives me anxiety, like I don't know how the beat's gonna go and I can't expect anything :s The video's cool though. Stop motion is awesome <3 I miss the days when bands and artists used to actually make music videos interesting...but I expect that the music video took them a lot more time and effort to make than the song xD

It's been a while since I posted here. Let me rectify that now.
I liked this song. Has a calm country feel to it and the singer has a nice voice. Unfortunately, beyond that, I can't think of much to say about the song, so I looked up the band. I wasn't gonna say it at first, but I did feel like this song had some grunge-y undertones, which is apparently what the band was going for. Apparently, Ashley Buchholz, the vocalist, described their music as "the campfire afterparty" and I think that describes this song pretty well. I feel like this is a band whose albums I could buy and enjoy listening to. Good pick.
-
Oh yes, Yes! This is so good! I was told about Yes a while ago but I heard one track that threw me off a bit, so didn't really go further. I really like this though, upbeat 80's feel all the way, even though it's from the 70's. Actually now that I think about it, I was in a musical set in the 80's around the time I heard this band…so I probably got turned off because I was drowning that summer in Wham!, Cindi Lauper, Ah-ha, and the b-52's. God damn Video Killed the Radio Star got so annoying....
But I like this lmao.
Prepare to have a song stuck in your head for the next few hours.
P.S Glad you like USS. If you ended up lisening to another song, you'll see they actually sound a lot different than the song I showed you :P Sorry bout that, I was just posting the song stuck in my head. When I saw them live I was also surprised to find they did the whole new album with 2 guys. One DJ'ing and one singing. They also made a smoothie on stage for some reason…but great energy for sure.
-
The song gives of a slow and relaxed sorta feeling. Just like a summer house. :V
I kinda like the song, although also I'm kinda not that into love-stuff in lyrics. And these lyrics are about love and also a bit confusing… I get most of the verses, but the refrain... I'm completely lost. Okey, so they are at a summer house, literal I assume, and she's... curving like the ocean toward him? :S
Like whaaa... She curves toward him from the same angle as some ocean current? Eh. o,o Is it like an internal joke thing or is it just my limited grasp of the English language. Will I ever know? Who knows.
Yeah, yeah. So it's an okay song sorta I guess. :)Yumiko - ADACHI Tomomi

Dude, this song is SO F**KING KICK ASS!!! The arrangement was far beyond unique. It was so refreshing to hear a choir take such a different take. Even though I don't comprehend what is actually being said, it really resonances that "Hey, we're the Youth!!!" It really makes me feel energetic and young.
Sing About Me: It is imperative that who every listens to this song read the following summary. If you don't you will get lost. Death is a scary thing, and while it is inevitable most of us still long to have one thing even after we die: Someone to remember us. This song that I am posting now is from a rap artist named Kendrick Lamar. Fortunately he spares his listeners from over manufactured beats and childish nursery lyrics that we often hear today. Instead in this track, Kendrick Lamar will literally play from the point of view of two individuals, both who happen to be siblings of people Kendrick knew himself. The overlying theme in this song is spoken clearly through the song's chorus:"When the lights shut off. and its my turn to settle down…my main concern.... Promise that you will Sing about me... Promise that you will sing About Me"
1) The first individual he plays is the brother of Kendrick's belated friend who had died over gang violence. The brother is a gang member of LA's Pirus aka Bloods. In this verse the brother tells a tale of the dismal life of being involved in gang violence, and even sighs some regret from being involved in the first place.
2) The second individual Kendrick plays is Keisha's sister. In one of Kendrick's earlier albums Kendrick made a song about Keisha; titled Keisha's song. Keisha and her sister grew up in the same neighborhood as Kendrick; however, Keisha went into the prostitution business. She later was stabbed and raped by a shady client. Outraged that Kendrick had outed Keisha's misfortune to the world in his last album, Keisha's sister decides to leave a nice "pleasant" message for Kendrick Lamar to hear. Also, it is important to note that Keisha's sister is a prostitute as well. Two prostitutes in the family? Hey… it's life...
The third and final verse is Kendrick Lamar. In this verse he "responds back" to both his friend's brother and Keisha's sister.

I dunno about this song. I think it's kinda boring, with both the rapping and beats just going on and on. Not sure I like the lyrics much neither, well, it does get this feeling of "real" it's going for at some parts… It's good from such a perspective maybe. But you'll have to really listen to the rapping and probably read an explanation such as the one provided. :P

…uh ...um ...hm ...well, first I want to say that I really did like it. I just don't know exactly how to describe it. Sounded like song sort of tribal ritual dance or something. Very funky. And different. At least for what I listen to. Different tends to be very hit and miss, but this was definitely cool. The beat really got me bobbing my head, the chanting was fun, and the guitar part in the middle was very good too. Nice pick.
Though it could probably use more cow bell. :P
-
Cool song. Sounds like a pretty standard party song and there ain't nothin' wrong with that. I love the whistles and bells, so to speak, of electronic music. Can't say the song is very remarkable or unique, but again, nothing wrong with that as long as you can jam to it. I like that mouse logo too. 'Fraid there's not much else I can say about it other than nice song and good pick.
Okay, for this song, I'd like whoever listens it to do a little bit of homework first. If you're not familiar with the short story "The Lady, or the Tiger?" then read a quick synopsis of it here (you can read the actual story if you want, but the summary will suffice).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lady,_or_the_Tiger%3F
Now listen to the song and read the lyrics.
This is why I love this band.
-
This is so unfair! Why must I get all these homework assignments! :'(
Nah, I'm good. I'm good. Getting culture…d. And stuff. Learning all those good 'ol stories and whatnots.
I really do like the song too, it's got some chaotic sounds going on and the lyrics have that wit I've come to expect of They Might Be Giants.
The only thing that bothers me about the lyrics is I was hoping there would be some... subversion of the "lady or the tiger?". Well, can't have it all can you. :P
I think I'm pretty much an authority on They Might Be Giants now, thanks to you, TOS-man! With this I have listened to two of their song plus their famous stuff! :)
(Yeah, okey, I've might have listened to some more in secret also.)(A small warning, this is a guy playing a piece of broken glass with his face.)

I swear man… Back in 2008 my friend and I were on a mission to discover new sounds and music, but we've never run into the music that you always present. My god... where do you find these songs or rather HOW did you find them? Anyway on to my "review"
I've never seen anyone play glass... at least not like that. I'm a big fan of eerie and loud noises and can sit in a room and have a blast listening to television static; however, listening to this song for over 2:50 minutes became redundant.
The sound is wonderful; being both graceful and aggressive simultaneously, but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere after a while. I'm not really a fan of improvisation and that's what sounds like is happening here. Perhaps if he were conveying some sort of story, than the length of the song and his playing would be more appreciated.
YOSH !!! It's my turn!!
-
I've got to say as a proud metalhead, I have never enjoyed Korn. I've avoided most of their stuff for that reason, but that makes this an interesting listen. That dissonant riff they open with sounded nice, like it would break into some good mathcore shit, but here's the thing with Korn: they just don't know how to work with what they've written. The pieces feel inconsistent with each other. Some bits want to break out and go crazy, but it feels like they're just afraid to unleash the beast within and drown it all in some generic alt-rock sensibilities and incoherent rap. It undermines any power it might have and leaves me feeling like I never went anywhere. On another note, I remembered hearing more recently that Korn always claimed Meshuggah influences in their music and I can actually hear that a bit. Still, not a big fan of this.
It's about time I start busting out Einstürzende again.
-
I remember reading somewhere that Z'EV had been an influence on the industrial genre. I didn't get it at that time as I mostly associated industrial with some sort of hardcore industrial deal. But hearing early industrial such as Einstürzende Neubauten I most definitely hear it. I've listened to some EN after hearing Blixa Bargelds collaboration with Alva Noto, ANBB. Liked them a lot because of obvious reasons. Obvious as sunrise.
I don't think I've heard this song before, but it's made of hotness. Brimming with energy and cool sounding lyrics. I do understand some German, but these lyrics I understand maybe a couple sentences as there's many complicated words. Like they use "feurio" which apparently means fire, rather than "feuer" …frei. :p Hohoho, Rammstein reference. >____>Mats Gustafsson, live.
-
…I don't know. I have even less words to describe this than I do the previous song of yours I listened to. In fact I have no words. Is that music? Definitely -ahem- interesting saxaphone playing, that's for sure. And it really wasn't anything I would enjoy listening to. Must be an acquired taste. That's really all I have to say. Or am able to, for that matter.
Something a little different from what I usually post.
-
I do enjoy singing and duets (e.g. Bjork and Tom Yorke's "Ive seen it all") however, I just wasn't really feeling it for this song (although I did listen to all 4:25 worth). The lyrics come of as "fitting lyrics to the formula" rather than "I truly feel this and would like to take my time to write something natural and authentic". The song's progression was too predictable. The singing was indeed lovely, but it was just a little to overly familiar for my liking. Maybe it's because I watched one too many Disney movies.
Yosh my Turn… again!
-
I like the… churning... of the song, kinda gives it a mystic feeling. Like a slow train. If the trains were like those from the film Species(Like
)… Maybe. :P
Anyways. I also liked the beginning with the build up and that. The bells are nice and kinda gives the song a certain amount of flavor...
But still, it's mostly been done before I would say. At least, I feel like I've heard it before... Almost déjà vu, but not really. Not that I want to be too harsh because I do do some digging of the song. :)Janko Nilovic - Xenos Cosmos

Some nice laid back jazz that is right there. Felt a bit like a jam, just going here until finally being put into a frame by the chorus. I'll listen to some more of this I think. Good song.
-
It feels like I've heard this song more than enough times, though it's the first time I've listened to it. Standard rockabilly fair with melodies and progressions taken from the used pile. It's fun, though. It has a certain charm, like something I would like to hear sung and played in a bar. At the same time, there's not much remarkable about the song. I enjoyed the way it broke down at the end. It suited the song well without going so crazy that you couldn't recognize where it came from. Not bad…
Time for some more Mountain Goats. I've posted these guys multiple times here, and this one is my favorite song of this year. I've just about memorized the entire song from playing it so many times.
-
I am surprised how much I enjoyed this song. For some reason, when I saw the name of the song I was expecting something metal, but this was very much different from that. I am extremely bad at measuring the type of mood a song is trying to portray, but I generally felt happy and upbeat throughout this song, and a lot of the video seems to be have innocent, happy imagery like the dad and kid playing together, but at the same time there are some pretty jarring parts, especially towards the end. I really didn't know what to make of some scenes like the girl with the nosebleed. Don't really know what type of emotional reaction I am supposed to get from that. Listened to the song again but actually payed attention t-o the lyrics, and I am surprised how very different the message of the song is from the tone. Don't get me wrong, I actually like the difference, it makes the song a lot more interesting. All in all, I actually really enjoyed the content of the song itself, but had a hard time following the video.
-
Very good.
Anything that has jazz influence or old-school hiphop influence is good in my book. Excellent beat too, do you know if he does all of the music himself?
That sax in the chorus is great.
I'm slowly getting back into stuff like this, and this helped with that a ton. Super rad stuff. -
Cool song. I'm not very familiar metalcore/hardcore punk, but this song makes me want to check out more. It manages to have the typical intimidating metal sound without being unintelligible and there are some pretty cool instrumental sounds going on as well. The beginning part may have gone on a tad too long, but the overall song was really stellar. If/when I do start to delve deeper into the heavy metal genre, this is a band I'll have to check out.
-
Like most living souls on our sphere in the void I've heard some The Clash songs. I guess like on the radio and such mostly. But also when I was doing some digging around in the punk genre.
They really do deserve to be one of the big names.
The song is simple like, yeah, it's punk. I welcome the ass kicking it's giving me. The lyrics are about eh, standing up to "The system" or whatever. Dunno how I feel about that, being the most unradical dude anywhere. But shit it. I really like the song. So I'll take it as many time needed, like I said.
Also love the album cover, like, holy men, it's iconic all over. :OHan Bennink on Cheese Kit Diptych

Sick drumming, loved the fact that he brought some unusual items to the session. Also, 3:00 look kind of painful, I don't know if I'd risk my teeth doing that haha. I'll have to show this to a friend who is studying percussion, he'll get a kick out of it. Thanks for sharing!
Finally got past the three pages of videos I had not seen yet. I thought this thread was long gone, until I realized it had moved from the general discussion thread to here!
