Goddammit I forgot to watch AGAIN! All sorts of bad timing.
But hey, we didn't do so bad. But I am so confused about how advancing works in the World Cup. Ties vs. losses vs. number of GOALS? So weird.

So weeeeeiiiiirrrrrdd.
I feel sorry for the American team.
But what a great WC this far.
As an american watching his first world cup because he's just gotten into sports in general i just want to say that while some of the matches themselves have been boring, following the sport has been just as great so far as following basketball or football. Lets go USA!!!!!! ALL THE WAY TO THE CUP!!!!
But I am so confused about how advancing works in the World Cup. Ties vs. losses vs. number of GOALS? So weird.
It should work just the same as domestic soccer/football leagues.
I'm not sure which step got you confused, so i'll just go through everything, including the obvious.
Basically, it's supposed to come down to total points. Teams get 3 points for a win. 1 point each for a draw. no points for losing.
The top 2 teams in the table go through to the knockout rounds.
But in the event that two teams finish with the same amount of points,
the team with the better goal difference (think of it as like a K/D ratio in a shooting game) goes on top.
If goal difference is equal too, the next factor would be total goals scored by each side.
When you break it down, it becomes easier to understand.
I don't get why they haven't made the logical progression to the record against each other system that they use in The Champion's League, La Liga etc.
It's a much cleaner and, to be honest, fairer system.

I could Google it but I want to hear it from you instead, bud. How's that system work?

Basically instead of comparing a team's goal difference first, they check their record against each other.
So if two teams tie on points, but there was a clear winner when the two teams actually played each other, then the winner of that game gets the benefit.
If it was a draw between the two, then it moves onto goal difference.

This.
One hundred times times this.
The system has already been adopted in the Euro and made it´s first victim quite early (Russia).

It's just a much cleaner system tbh.
I wonder if they'll adopt it by 2018.

This is a pretty fair system yup but I think they want the best team to progress in the group and not someone who have only played well against a single team and did not fare well against others. I believe that was the basis why this system is adopted although i still prefer the la liga one ^_^
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
And TBH USA is in a pretty decent position! Would have never guessed that they would be having good chances to progress like it is now especially with teams like Portugal and Ghana in the group. What's annoying is, Portugal has been playing the same way for the past 8 years even with different coaches. The players are the same, no change in tactics AND unfortunately they have the best player in the world.
My friend and I were talking the other day about World Cup anthems, and we both agree, there is still only one:
Spanish version for my Europas:
Oh Ricky Martin, why are you gay? sob

Ohhhhkay then. Now I'll try to go back to US vs Portugal vs Germany vs Ghana and try to calculate.
Everyone is México is really piped up for the game today b: Funny thing is i still don't have an antenna so i can't watch it in the house xD Guess i'll go to a restaurant to see it.

The system I'm talking about it fairer in that regard though.
Say team A beats team B, and team A is clearly superior.
Team A beats team C by a narrow margin.
Team B plays team C and C has a player sent off, making a multi goal win pretty easy for team B.
In this case, by the old system, team B, who were clearly inferior to team A, goes through because of one good performance against a weakened team.
By the new system, team B deservedly goes through, since they showed themselves to be the better side.
What do you think of the match Cameroun Brésil?
Do they have a chance of winning?
I hate it when two games are running at the same time, lol.
totaly agree with you ^^
Well at least with this two it's easy to choose, since imo netherlands vs chile is more interesting then watching, the two already out of the tournament, australia and spain play.^^
Looks like Spain is leading 1-0 while the other game is still at 0-0. Netherlands are playing rather defensively; as you'd expect at this point. But they should hold back a bit with the fouls. Some were really unnecessary and could easily lead to a yellow card.
NED-CHI is disappointing this far.
Thought it'd be more exciting.
Edit: I should stop writing something like this lol
Well, GG Chile. Dutch defense is just too much, Sanchez could barely move or Blind was right in his face.
Well, at least Spain went out with a bang. Now that they're out of the tournament, I do feel somewhat bad for them. But at the end of the day it's their fault for what happened. If you're not hungry, you don't deserve the title.
Netherlands played a solid game and used the counter chances they had. A bit brutal but a deserved 2-0.
Son of a bitch, does someone have a link for the México-Croatia game? I can't go out since my bathroom is again flooded with rain.
Edit: Found one.
So Brazil Vs Chile and Netherlands Vs Mexico in the next round right?
Oh god, Netherlands?
[
A](http://s56.photobucket.com/user/prismal/media/stresshumon_zps4215f433.jpg.html)nyway, México won and i'm proud to be a Villamelón.
Go Brazil or go Neymar ?
Go Argentina or go Messi ?
I wanted to see the Croatia Vs Mexico match….
Well, it was edgy for a while, but our morale dropped after the first goal. Congrats Mexico, the better team won
And no, I won't stop eating tortillas.

Hey, your coach is so handsome (Croatia's i mean). Is he even real? Well, except when he's mad.

I guess, but he's not too tall. 1,76 m. Or 5 feet 9 1/2 inches if you prefer.
Hope they keep him as a coach now. His time has just begun. Made some dubious calls, like not playing with Rebic from the start. Also, our goalkeeper is getting too slow. Still, he took over the team when we were in crysis and made a threat in the cup. You can't just change coaches every time they don't succeed, you need continuity of work.
It was somewhat ironic how Kovac had allegedly found a way through Mexico's defense, yet his team was the one receiving three goals.
'twas a good game nevertheless and the better team advanced. They'll meet their match once the Dutch guys enter the field though.
As for Brazil; I'm rooting for Chile.

So true man, damn.
Too bad Croatia lost, I would have liked to see them advance (not just for the coach). But Mexico has proven to be a really good team too, so they deserve it. I didn't see the match though.
So, we already know our first 2 matches of Round 2: Brazil - Chile and Netherlands - Mexico. Should be interesting!

Damn, i'm 1.70. Shorty's also deserve some love D;
The Mexico manager was the absolute best thing about that game.
I don't think it's going to be quite as straightforward for the Dutch as some are making out, tbh.
O](http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_spot/2014/06/23/miguel_herrera_mexico_meet_the_most_gif_worthy_man_at_the_world_cup.html)h, well know about El Piojo. I mean, i am this close to considering his reactions NSFW.
remind me to never bet for the Cameroun to the Word Cup 2018 ! fuck that !
I'm really excited about the first match today. Uruguay will probably be going all out against a (hopefully not) defensive Italy that's aiming for a tie. Oh…all of a sudden I'm not that excited anymore. '-'
...please don't make this a boring game, Italy.

I think it's gonna be a good one.
Uruguay can't afford to just throw everything at Italy though.
If they leave gaps, Pirlo will tear them to pieces.
Damn, this is gonna be exciting game. Rooting for Uruguay as they are my favourite team in the tournament with Germany and Netherlands. This has been easily the most painfull group for me to follow since I like all four teams and then there are groups with 3 to 4 teams that I dislike/don't care.
Anyway, hoping that Cavani and Suarez work their magic like they did against England but I'm afraid Italy's defence might be too much for them. Tie is enough for Italy so the game will probably end 1-1
Edit//
And of course it's the crappiest commentator of all that narrates the game I've waited the most… :getlost:
I was really excited for this game, considering the teams and the stakes.
So far this is one massive disappointment.

Who the commentator?
Who the commentator?
Well, since he's Finnish you most likely don't know him but his name is Kaj Kunnas. He used to do the Swedish commenting on Yle5 for Ice Hockey WC but this year he did the Finnish commentary and people went crazy because he has fairly dry and irritating voice, plus de doesn't know much about sports anyway. People wanted him off and sent tons of letters for Yle so that they'd get rid of him. And now he's commenting on Football which he understands even less than Hockey. He's really annoying and people's #1 topic of complain at the moment
//Ugh, this game is boring. Italy's defence is tight as I expected… not very entertaining. Uruguay should score a goal in the beginning on the second half and maybe Italy would move that buss they have parked in front of the goal. Also, asmuch as I like Italy as a country they have so many divers in the team it's gross. I REALLY hate Chiellini >_<
Is anyone following CRC-Eng? I have only 1 TV and net player lags so I only can watch ITA-URU
The Italian game is relying too much on Pirlo. Take him out of the equation and the remaining players would be running around like headless chickens. Italy's team really needs to change its playstyle come Euro 2016. Ballotelli is a huge fuckwit and plays way too inconsistently to keep in the line-up. The game has indeed been one huge disappointment so far.
Also, the referee too made some questionable calls there.
Both these matches are incredibly boring, I was expecting a lot better.
Red card for Marchisio?
Not sure if correct call. Maybe Yellow but not red
Wtf red card, im starting to believe these matches are manipulated
Redcard for Marchisio?
Not sure if correct call. MAybe Yellow but not red
Completely wrong call there. That referee is an idiot, easy as that. He sure as fuck isn't playing in another game.

Well, for referee's defence, hits like that can be career enders. Stupid move by Marchisio but I agree that red card was a bit too much
Someone should tell Uruguay that they NEED a goal. They don't seem to know it.
