In this thread, you pick 3 bands from your playlist, and play your favorite songs from them. I'll start.

Picking favorite songs is always hard, especially from favorite bands where you most likely will like pretty much everything they do more or less. Especially if your favorite artist has a really long discography.

St Vincent
Mountain Goats
I can see this thread really slowing down peoples' browsers if it gets too cluttered with videos. Maybe we should try hiding them instead?

I've thought of this question before, so I have some answers. After listening to a lot of music, my top three bands are pretty clear cut and then after that, the placement of my favorite bands is less in discreet points than probability clouds.
! Frank Zappa
[hide]Zappa's discog is expansive and has a lot of variety, but this track covers a bunch of my favorite aspects of his short of his jazzy side. Serious criticism mixed with sillyness and music that matches, then goes to space for a while. Love the album and this song is the crux. Plus, the "Music is the best" sequence is a favorite Zappa moment.
! The Mountain Goats
[hide]I don't put Heretic Pride in my top three Mountain Goats albums, but it has a few of my favorite songs. Sakonosolo's pick is actually a close second for me, but this song empowers me.
! Devin Townsend
[hide]Like Zappa, Townsend has a large range in his music and a tendency to mix serious and silly. This song is more on the serious+prog side of his work and it's beautiful.
I still continue to expand my discography as often as I can, usually listening to one new album and/or artist a week. But for the last year or two, these have been my top three bands:
! XTC
! >! A horrendously overlooked band. I defy anyone to listen to them and not be put in a good mood. This song epitomizes that sentiment perfectly, schmaltz be damned.
!
Radiohead
! >! It's funny. I consider myself a fairly positive person who prefers things to be bright and cheery and upbeat, but I just can't help but admire Radiohead's masterful song-crafting. OK Computer was my first Radiohead album, and while it took me a while to digest most of the album, I knew there was something special about this song the first time I heard it.
!
They Might Be Giants
! >! They Might Be Giants have been my favorite band since middle school, and I'm sure they always will be. And although this isn't the most original choice, and there are so many great songs to choose from, I just adore it.
!
Aaah, I dunno who mine might be. I have a top three favorite musician but out of the three only Frank Zappa could be fitted into a band. :v

Frank Zappa - The Grand Wazoo
Also review at least one song from the person above you, so this isn't just a bunch of videos that no one is going to watch.
Given that there have been at least a hundred artists out there who have produced at least one album I've adored, let alone songs I'm willing to play on repeat for a few hours; I limit "my favourite bands" to three criteria:
Which simply boils down to three acts I really adore:
Cunninlynguists:
! Still one of the most underrated hip-hop acts out there; it was down to a three-way tie between this, "Seasons" (ft. Masta Ace) and my guilty pleasure "Fukinwitchu":
! Hourglass:
!
Kanye West:
! Yes the guy can be a jackass and prima donna but DAMN can he produce a good beat and make a stunning album fuck yeah. Speaking of which, one of the many gems in My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was bound to become a fave of mine and this was it:
! Runaway:
!
Radiohead:
! Yeah, I know, kinda predictable. But with the stunning trilogy of The Bends-OK Computer-Kid A (and that I'm still young and I haven't listened to that many other artistes blah blah blah) I think they kinda deserve this. My fave songs from them though usually come from In Rainbows, though, and so it goes.
! Jigsaw Falling Into Place:
!
This is bound to change in the future of course, when I expand my horizons to new artists and new albums. This ended up being slightly predictable on my part. :/
I'll review Sarfallet's FrankZappa song sometime later.
Going by what is on my iPod these three groups are my favorite and two of three of them it's easy to point out my favorites
The Clash
!
! My hands down favorite Clash song with Guns of Brixton and Rock the Casbah
Wu-Tang Clan
!
! 36 Chambers is without a doubt one of the greatest albums ever done in music and while most would say C.R.E.A.M. or Method Man Is the the best song on the album I say Da Mystery of Chessboxin' is the best song done by Wu-Tang Clan
Johnny Cash
!
! Johnny Cash has so many songs I love to choose from but Ghost Riders in the Sky is one that doesn't get enough love. I however love the shit out of it.
Cunninlynguists:
! Still one of the most underrated hip-hop acts out there; it was down to a three-way tie between this, "Seasons" (ft. Masta Ace) and my guilty pleasure "Fukinwitchu":
! Hourglass:
!
I don't even really like hip hop but I do like CunninLyngusts too. Piece of Strange and whatever that album with the dream-like name are really good.
I rather liked this thread. Let's not have it die out so quickly. I'll go with Sarfallet's pick The Grand Wazoo. (Not trying to copy you Pachylad, I honestly was gonna pick it before.)
I quite liked it, a bit more on my second listen than the first, though. Reminds me that I need to check out more jazz fusion stuff, as it seems like it's up my alley. 6:25-9:50 feels like it took me back to the early 70's when it came out. Being able to capture a time period as it's happening is something I always greatly appreciate in music and movies.
And speaking of jazz, if anyone's gonna review a song I like, please make it this one.

Since well…I realise my first pick was rather cliche.
EPIC REVIEW from Captain Ugly with a capital C
Well, you can´t never go wrong with Jamiroquai, just some funky tunes and a quiet but strong voice. This song is not as energetic as others songs from him, but still, this song can make any place ready to host a classy party.
The solo seems like it comes from another planet, something you can listen and travel with your imagination to weird places, WITH NO DRUGS.
The end suddenly become quiet and then…HUGE burst of smooth gig.
Great song, but with moderate energy.
8/10
As a big fan of tango and accordion, here are my master.

Yeeeeeeah, Ugly! I was thinking of posting Invierno Porteño, but just about anything from Piazzola is excellent. Libertango would probably be my second favorite tune of his, especially taking into consideration all of the different versions other artists have come out with.
I'll edit in my 3 favorites later. My tablet is being screwy right now.
To make this a little more practical, I'll go with living artists and no massive, long orchestral works and the like, and all from different genres.
!
I could probably throw a stone into the Nickel Creek discography and there's a good chance I could call whatever song it lands on my favorite. So I'll just go with Green and Gray because it was the first song I heard.
!
!
My internet is going a bit mental just now so I'll just have to write mine, rather than linking them.
Mastodon - Oblivion
Rammstein - Sensucht
Led Zeppelin - Immigrant Song
With all this renewed interest, I've decided that the bands do not have to be your favorites, and you pick three songs from each band. Enjoy.

I hate My Chemical Romance, so not even going to review that. That Rise Against song was great and is officially in my playlist. As for that Thousand Foot Krutch song, it was great it was the first song of theirs I had ever heard.
! Bruno Mars
! Flyleaf - Missing
! Linkin Park - In The End
Oooh this is a hard one! But I'll give it a shot:
! Massive Attack - Risingson
! Depeche Mode - Halo
! IAMX feat. Imogen Heap - My Secret Friend
