Petty sarcasm aside you missed my point. The movies I mentioned weren't exactly good movies, and they were stuffed with A-list actors. The actors themselves don't cut it for the movies anymore, you need an interesting story too.
Are talking about not good movies as the poor reception? Do you think the film studios not going to make any movies because they are too scare of the critics and the people going to criticize their films?

I think its highly ignorant to assume nobody gets into the source material because they got interested in the movie. True not everyone who sees a movie based on a book is going to go out to read the book, but what kind of argument is "just because the majority of people don't read the books, its pointless to mention the book at all" That makes no sense, you want people to read the source and get invested and interested in the movie. Just because its a japanese novel dosen't mean its not worth mentioning. Its easy enough to fine a place to read it online.
As I said before, I'm not saying nobody will get interest on the source, I mean that only small number of people going to get interested in, like do you expect most of people will come to theater after reading the original source. Also, the film industry doesn't think hack of how much people going to read the novel or not; they only care about the profit which going to brought due to the movie. That's all. Nothing more and nothing less.
Plus, even though it is easy to find the book, majority of people will not going to read it because they are LAZY. People even miss the small message in the poster or any other stuff; hack, they don't even read the short paragraph from the brochure. Just because there is mentioning in the book, it doesn't necessary lead people to actually read the book.

Oblivion didn't exactly advertise it was based on a graphic novel, it was touted as yet another Tom Cruise action movie. It seemed generic because of that, see my point?
Then, if the film industry advertise the graphic novel more, then do you HONESTLY think this movie going to make more money?
