Chapter 76
A Piiiiig! -
I know this is a bit of a stretch but do you guys think that the wizard holy knight is somewhat Margaret herself ?
There are some bits from the latest chapters that show a close relationship between the two.
-
My two cents about ch 76
This chapter brought some interesting points which can be spotted. First at all, we can see clearly Meliodas is not absolutely overwhelming when he uses a sword… Hendricksen resisted his initial attack. Wait, Gil too. Even more, it seems Hendricksen is not using all his power, he refuses the help of the mysterious lady and also that secret thing he has … the hell! Don’t trust the scale of powers nor any picture you have made of it, you simply can be trolled in the next fight, (remember, same happened with King, since also in Bitzel he was defending the people of the town). Anyway, I should have to say that to me the scale of powers is not an issue, (tho I’d prefer it to be consistent). The author uses it to provide excitement to the action, and that seems to be the main plot role of it; in my opinion, it’s not a key element of the story.
Also we can see the third princess of Lyoness, Margaret, entering the scene. She decided voluntarily to be imprisoned. What could have happened there? Maybe she decided when the cup d’ etat against her father and as a protest for what happened. But, her decision clearly helped Hendricksen, who wanted Eli, the big loot, close to capture her, and nothing better than having her sisters and father kidnapped. That is consistent with the disdain the mysterious shows when talking to Margy.
But this chapter has a better and interesting line, which would be the mysterious lady talking about Gil. So, Gil is the lady’s cute little knight… Then who is her? It could be just an expression, but couldn’t she be the Queen of Lyonesse? Well, look at Margaret’s eyes… or Gil’s mother and Zaratras’s wife? Anyway, she knows the sins, and she could have been acting all the time from the hidden and struggling to resurrect the Demon clan, helping in the coup d’ etat, helping to murder Zaratras and to betray and proscribe the sins…Anyway, political betrayal has been an important topic of the whole story, so…
See you

Spoiler of ch 77 by ferdinbeer from RedHawk
! Next issue will have color pages, the regular chapter (78), and a side story as you will see why in the spoilers. Nakaba is really cranking it out.
! King's group of holy knights and sins band together to go stop Hendricksen. Meliodas, Arthur, Gil, and Hendricksen continue fighting. Ban heads to where Hawk is, and it's revealed that the huge twisting thing behind him is the Horn of Cernunnos. He asks Goddesses to revive Elaine in exchange for his life. (no answer from Goddesses or the horn this chapter, we don't know if they heard Ban at all. I guess we'll see in Chapter 78.) -
So, I should take it from this chapter, considering Android Guy says everything at face value without double meanings, that there are two beings inside Dreyfus? And one of them is what stopped him from further mental breaking the Holy Knight? Or. . .something along these lines?
-
Old good guy Dreyfus/Current traitor Dreyfus.
-
Solid chapter, showing where everyone is and what they are doing. Gowther waking up was hilarious, I love those awkward type of people that can't read the mood.
-
I dunno if it's just the way weekly shonen magazine operates but I love how this series keeps getting extra long chapter, side story chapter and colour pages. Also I'm glad Gowther is up and running again, he's hilarious.
-
The side story will be about Ban and Elaine once again
Does Ban think he can make his wish like that ? The logic would say you have to blow into it first. It's strange how he found it very easily so I guess he knows how it works.–- Update From New Post Merge ---

My 2 cents about ch 77.
I have mixed feelings about this chapter.
With all those series in which we have a perfectly loyal bunch of protagonists, trying to help the main one which in his turn will grant the objectives of his friends, nakamas, etc.., its really interesting that Ban has his own agenda. This is not news, and it has been shown through several chapters.
Just think about the potential of story in which two good guys has their own agenda and in which it could be a conflict of interests between them… But no matter how many hearts Ban will stab, he’s a good guy and his objective should be consistent with Mel’s. Nevertheless, it’s nice to see he’s working for meet Elaine again. Nothing less to wait of a truly desperate lover…
Now what I’m afraid of. What for to bring the Goddess clan in this arc? What for? The proverb says: don’t put all your eggs in the same basket. Let’s see: we have a holy war to happen soon, and some protagonists that surely will play a major role on it. The previous war was fought between the demons and the goddess, and the author did a great job in creating and opening for both them to revive. Now be began with just a sin, gathered some others, meeting some interesting enemies, and the resurrection of the demon clan seems to be just around the corner…. Wouldn’t it be more logical to keep the Goddess clan resurrection or whatever other entrance could be for them for a future arc? And let the reader to feel the anxiety of witnessing a world in danger due to resurrected demons? I truly hope that would happen, or at least, not to see other goddess that (likely) Elizabeth (who could be one).
For worse the management of the scale of powers is not consistent. I usually don’t pay much attention to it, but no doubt in an action manga, the scale of powers is important. In the previous chapter we saw Mel demanding the return of Eli, and then throwing some blows to a Hendricksen who easily dodge them all. And now after some more talk, Mel get really pissed and push them back with incredible power… I honestly thought he was pissed enough from the moment Eli was kidnapped to kill anyone that put in the middle of his way to her. But it seems he gets pissed gradually, and the same happens with his power. It’s like if he were treating his rivals with mercy, and a merciful hero in the middle of cold blood assassins… not the best narrative to me.
C ya next week.

! This is a definite unexpected turn of events. I understand Ban would do anything to bring back Elaine, and now I have no clue what is going to happen. I'm not surprised the goddess asked him to kill Melodias, but also makes me wonder how much more important Melodias is to the Demon clan. -
As soon as the 'killing a person' mission was mentioned, I knew who it was going to be. A bit cliched in my eyes but let's see where the author will go with it first.

Chapter 78.5
http://www.batoto.net/read/_/246329/nanatsu-no-taizai_ch78.5_by_red-hawk-neoBan and Elaine are adorable together. My favourite couple so far.

So Ban, what you gonna do now?

My 2 cents on the chapter:
The benefit of a complex plot
I'm soooo happy with this chapter, mainly because it clearly states there is much more plot to be developed in the future. Suppose for a moment the goddesses are all-good and powerful characters that comes in some moment to help the sins to beat the all-bad demons… That was pretty much the idea I had before this chapter. And it could be acceptable final development depending on the details, which could help or work against a decent plot.
no doubt a new stage!!!But that won’t happen, because the goddesses won’t come soon (they can’t atm), and mainly because they are not a plain simple character. To put it simple, the heroines of the previous war, the benefactor, wants to kill the protagonist and likely next hero of the holy war. Much have to be told to make us readers understand why and to have a believable solution to all this tension and relations between the characters of the story.
The complex relationships between the clans
the four clans allied… or all that glitters is not gold.Let see, there is some kind of tension between the clans. Previously we could believe the four clan who sealed the demon were in agreement and perfectly allied. But that’s not the case and now some good questions have arisen. The obvious one is why Mel threatens that balance; in what way could he breaks that balance? But also, since we have more than 4 clans what are the four clans whose balance has to be preserved through Mel’s death?
A wild guess about romance and war
Romance is an element of the story. Ban and Elaine, King and Diane and Mel and Eli, and Margaret and the late Veronica are minor cases. My guess is related to this line of Helbram:
mixed you say? What does it mean Mel was mixed from the beginning? And why he threatens the balance between the clans? The answer could be the same for both questions: Meliodas is the son of a demon and a member of one of the clans which sealed the demon clan, much likely a human. He’s special and he’s like a natural solution to the problem Hendricksen and Helbram was trying to solve when they were trying to feed the knights with demon blood. Sure a way to have demon blood from the beginning is being born the son of a Demon. But he’s not just a demon, but also a human, and likely his existence is a direct threat to the harmony between the clans because… the ancient rivals who fought in the previous war are somehow mixed or fused in him, when they should have to be completely separated… or because his existence means that the human clan is contaminated or impure, like if he were the only stain in the white mantle formed by the ‘good’ clans.
Since romance is very patent in the most important relationships, likely romance could be the origin of the bad things (the son of an illegitimate romance), and also the ultimate solution to all bad things (through the weird love between Eli and Mel).
Finally, to keep talking about romance…, what will do Ban? Is not that beautiful side story there to help his character? Will love make his attempt of murder more understandable? I’m guessing the author made Hawk to talk about how shady are the goddesses and Ban to not pay attention to it to make believable a future killing try by Ban on Mel. With a request like that, we would have a very weird Ban if he holds back and doesn't try to kill his friend. Such a predicament!
I’d like to add this chapter is so very well told: the alternation between the scenes of the Horn of Cernunnos and the field of battle was very fluid and harmonic… The good humour and the good art are the icing on this week very tasty cake.
See you next week.

So I'm thinking the floating hooded person with Arthur is Merlin…and the teleporting Holy Knight is the queen or something?
-
So I'm thinking the floating hooded person with Arthur is Merlin…and the teleporting Holy Knight is the queen or something?
Hawk is clearly associated with Merlin. The teleporting Holy Knight might be another witch from the Arthurian legends, Morgana, who is often depicted as Merlin's rival (the teleporting knight seem to hate pigs for some reason) or perhaps the third witch, Morgause. Who knows.
-
So…Those black flames are very similar to Amaterasu, but less broken somehow.
-
My 2 cents on Ch 79
A note about the general plot
Nowadays we are having so much fun this serie! For instance, just look at the questions we currently wonder about. Who is the teleporting lady and what is her connection with the sins and with Gil? What is Ban going to do now? What are the goddess clan intentions? Why does Mel threaten the balance of the four clans (and which ones are those 4 clans threatened)? Which are the still unrevealed intentions (and powers) of Arthur? Why he knows about the black flames and why is he interested in Mel? What’s the hidden card Hendricksen plans to play later, not now? Why Elizabeth is required to break the Coffin of Eternal Darkness?… Each of these is a very intriguing, well built and big question, (and still not to count the questions about the other sins and still not shown powers, sacred treasures, ….) But it’s even more impressive the fact that all of them are interconnected in a believable and thrilling plot, written with a pleasant entertaining art. Honestly I can’t wait more of a manga. It’s simply superb! (Other way to look at it: we still haven’t seen the apparition of the main rivals… but who doesn’t want to look at them?).
The identity of the teleporting lady knight.
So she once loved the sins. One question is when and why did she change her feelings about them. She seems to talk with the same rancor and contempt for the sins than Gil has against them; and like him, she had a good relationship with them in the past. The only turning point we, readers, possibly can know about is the murder of Zaratras for which the sins has been chased. If that was the turning point for her, she could be Gil’s mother and Zaratra’s wife. It’d make sense and the way she talks to and about Gil would be proper of his mother.
Now, it’s telling that she takes the time to let the King meets Eli. It strikes me like if she is consenting the meeting. But as if it would be a kind gesture directed towards the King, much more than towards Eli, since Eli is going to be sacrificed to break the demon’s seal. Like if she would have some kind of affection or devotion or respect for the King. I agree the way she talks favour the chance that she is Zaratra’s wife and Gil’s mom. But the gesture to show the adoted daughter to the father, favours the guess that she is the queen of Lyonesse.
Anyway, if Zaratras death was the turning point in her feelings for the sins, she very likely is a victim of the ambush orchestrated against the sins when they were accused to kill Zaratras. So instead that being a part of the major scheme planed by Hendricksen, she’d be a result and a resentful puppet of it. And also, if Merlin was behind that scheme, then she is not Merlin.
And in either case, if she’s Zaratras’s widow, the queen of Lyonesse or even Merlin, an important question to keep in mind is why she is working for Hendricksen and against the King? Because one thing is to want to avenge Zaratras and to punish the traitors of the Kingdom and another to want to resurrect the demon clan.
She’s such a nice mystery and has been very well portrayed by the author. Hopefully in the next chapter, we will see how she fights…. It'll be a good fight, but I put my money on the lady.
C ya next week.

Arthur and Merlin
?I was reading the comments on mangahelpers and someone noticed Merlin was floating when we saw her in chapter 6 for the first time. That detail deserves an additional note.
![](https://sites.google.com/site/ukimix/_/rsrc/1401809427181/home/floating knight.png)
(panels from ch 6 and 65)That coincidence and Arthur’s personality and particular attitude towards Meliodas make a good base to think Arthur’s floating escort is Merlin: Arthur is very excited to be able to fight at the side of Meliodas, and is very impressed for his powers. He clearly has listened to talk about him, and seems to admired him:
![](https://sites.google.com/site/ukimix/_/rsrc/1401809512947/home/arthur with mel.png)
(panels from ch 76, 77 & 78)The floating escort must be Arthur’s mentor; Arthur seems to be like a child admired to be able to watch his hero… or just someone whose master talked about to him in the past. The floating escort was identified as a magician by the teleporting lady, and in the legends Merlin is just that a great magician. So, as it’s said, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck…
Notice that the teleporting lady already met the sins and has been talking about them. But this floating escort haven’t met the sins just until this last chapter. It will be nice to see his/her interaction with the famous sin of wrath.
-
Who needs an anime when the panelization is so nicely done ?
And yes the hooded girl is probably Merlin. The fact that she was the one last named also hinted toward her being the next sin to appear. -
Chinese version of 80:

Normally you'd call an MC who holds off three enemies at the same time overpowered. But in Meliodas' case it works so very well. It feels natural and in line with the manga-universe's rules. And most importantly, it's a pleasure to read. A highly entertaining fight we are being presented there.
I did hope for Arthur to be a bit more relevant so that's a personal bummer. But it's alright. He had his fight and did considerably well.
-
Hahaha, stupid Gilthunder. He thinks he is stronger than all the sins and needs 2 backups to defeat Meliodas. Hahahahahahahaha!
-
While Gilthunder is a prick I feel a bit bad for him. After all he is only a human and was able to stand against Meliodas who is a half demon.
Hendricksen is also strong but those lizard pupils of his could mean that he has some of the demon clan power.
-
Kinda weird how Gilthunder was doing fine against Melodias and now all of a sudden, they need three people to take him on.

My two cents about ch 80
Arthur and the hooded Master
I was wondering how would it be the interaction between the hooded knight and Meliodas, with the hope that if he had some past connection with him we could read in his actions. But if still it’s possible that he/she could be a sin, his attitude is clear: he doesn’t give a damn bugger. All what he is interested in is his ‘disciple’.
The bloody education of a leader… You better pay attention arthuritoBut no matter what, he/she’s sure a great educator: she let the disciple to struggle with the problem, and she should be a great pedagogist, because Arthur wouldn’t learnt that much if gets helped by the nanny. Hendricksen didn’t see a great threat on Arthur and went for the main one (Mel), and, coherently, the master didn't intervene, but surely she would have helped if the disciple would have been in real danger to be killed. Sure both characters are very intriguing, but notice that now the childish character and smile of Arthur makes more sense: he’s a disciple and he’s learning and being educated to be a major leader.
This reminds me, there are many different versions of the Arthurian legends, and I'm not an expert on them, but I remember some tv series about Arthur in which Morgana, a powerful sorcerer, raises a kid that later will try to conquer the kingdom. That pretty much is what is happening here, because the aim of Arthur education is just to make of him someone able to lead Britannia.
Anyway, making the connections with the main plot of the story, some questions comes to the mind here. First, what does this couple think about the prophecy. Sure they know about it, and it would be weird if they don’t take it seriously. So what’s their position in regards to the prophecy? I mean if there is a plan to make of Arthur the main leader of Britannia, they have to solve somehow that ‘little’ issue of the holy war ….
Second, what’s their position in regards to the King of Lyonesse? Are they conquerors, or want to make an alliance? Anyway, we have been wondering about it since the moment they appeared. An the chapter let us know that somehow they seem to have reasons or plans to make of Arthur a more leading figure than the King of Lyonesse.
Now Arthur is big mystery, and Hendricksen wonders about it: what’s his power, that power that make of him the king of Camelot. Or was it the hooded knight, the reason why Arthur is now king? The King of Lyonesse has the vision power which makes him able to foresee the future, and he seems to have no more great powers. So likely a king can be a great king with out being the best warrior.
On Meliodas rising powers and the teleporting Lady
Did you was reminded of Law's room (One Piece character)?I find believable and amusing the current fight of Mel against the knights, and I just wonder when we will get his limit. I suppose it wouldn’t be too much to ask for that limit to be found against the demon clan and not against these not so much powerful rivals he’s battling now. Anyway many different things can happen if we take in account the amount of very important people that are arriving to the battle: the other sins and … Ban too… and the demons? … Holy cow! (Let me throw here this prediction: Ban will take Mel's heart with his snatch power; but that won't be Mel's limit because he has more than one heart…)
The teleporting lady is another big mystery in development. Continuing with the speculations of the last week, she doesn't seems to talk about the king as his wife, and her lines favours much more the impression that she’s Zaratras’s wife. That's the most believable guess to me atm. On the other hand, I haven't notice it before, but that hand she has at the end of her cane seems to be a demon’s hand. What reminds me we still don’t know how could have been a demon wandering around 20 years ago, when the demon clan was sealed in the previous ancient holy war. Mystery behind mystery…
Lady's devilish handC ya next week!

That one time during this fight that Meliodas went Demon Mode means he knows how to use it? Or was it still unconciously triggered?
If it's the first, I find it weird he only used that one time. Or maybe I'm missing something. This series only thing that bugs me are the power levels.
Other than that, good stuff. About time someone did a solid, fun battle manga with no faux-deep philosophycal stuff or overcomplicated plot developments that go nowhere. Just pure entertainment of the highest caliber.

It seems he can do it on purpose at some level, and also that he's at risk of losing control of himself when it happens; there's no much info about it. The last time when he was fighting unconsciously in demon mode was in Bitzel arc; and the eyes were drawn differently than now when he looks fully decided.
I agree with you; I have some minor troubles with the power levels, but the story is really good in all the others respects and by far.

I actually hate chhild meliodas and King, i need more testosterone filled men in my Nakaba.
I had the feeling Nakaba got tired of the muscular kind hero with Akira Kongou. But the blows are comparable… at least both are spectacular.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Also Akira always stroke me as some kind of a parody of Goku. And all the manga a parody of shounen archetypes.

I feel it's more like he wanted to explore that child-with-great-powers kind of character and he couldn't do it with Kongou when it was that close to the ending.
Now he's just going all out with Meliodas.

^First we get two posts full of color goodness (although a spoiler here and there to keep it short wouldn't hurt) and then a pleasant announcement. I do wonder what the spin-off might be about… Seeing how the relevant stories are covered in the gaiden chapters, maybe the spin-off is about the Holy Knights' side?

The spin off might be more school life shenanigans. Though it would also be cool if it showed the adventures the seven deadly sins went on before they were framed
