@RobbyBevard:
The difference is you can't see any of Spielberg's signatures in the final Transformers product.
Here, we can see elements that scream of Bay's style, or at least his influence. The designs, the action scene style, the explosions, the casting… Even if his name wasn't attached, the creative decisions involved are pretty clearly trying to mimick what the Transformers movies did (perhaps rightly so given they make a billion dollars) and it looks to be in the same ballpark.
Thank you.
And you know what else puts the mark of Michael Bay on this? The trailer has "From Producer Michael Bay" in it in big letters. Nowhere does it mention the director. Nowhere. All they want to do is keep emphasizing Bay's involvement on this. Because it looks and feels like Michael Bay.
@Aru:
Why do you insist on posting that image?
-
-
Hahaha. I showed my mother what Michaelangelo looks like in the trailer and she said he looks evil.
-
Bit late in saying this but why when I look at Maskless Micheangelo I think…Black Man morphed into a psudo antromorphic turtle.
-
But Indiana Jones or ET have nothing to do with this discussion. The common denominator in my comparisson was the presence of Micheal Bay's name and the way people's hate-boner for him cause them to single his name out as the focal point of what they dislike.
Transformers: Director -Micheal Bay, Producer - Steven Spielberg = DAMN YOU BAY!
TMNT- Director: Jonathan Liebesman, Producer - Micheal Bay = DAMN YOU BAY!
This is the disconnect I'm seeing here. Basically, have your anger and vitriol, just direct it to the correct person.
If you have a problem with a guy raiding your fridge and eating all your cool whip for a few nights in a row, and then you find out another room mate followed the first guy and they both ate your cool whip, I'm going to still hold the first guy mostly responsible.
-
lol. I think it kinda looks okay….
It better be good, cuz i adored the original animated series growing up..... -
Motion Capture or not, that is still full CG. Lol.
Unless you mean live action film elements like other characters or backgrounds. Then yea, the movie itself is a CGI/Liveaction Hybrid, while the Turtles and Gollum are pure CG.
LOL yeah i don´t know the specifics term, but what i meant is that they are actors in the scene interacting as the turtles, and they create the CGI on top of them. The actress is reacting to something real, not like let say. The Star Wars prequel, when the actors interacted with nothing for most of the scenes.
-
Is giving them beaks so they look like they always have SO hard?
Nope. I even left nostrils in there if you insist on having those.
-
@RobbyBevard:
Is giving them beaks so they look like they always have SO hard?
Was it so hard to give the Lizard his snout?
or Bane his Venom?
you know the answer in your heart, Robby.
-
The turtles are not full CGI. They made them with motion capture, pretty much like Gollum in the Lord of the Rings. But of course some of the scenes will be full CGI because of the action.
If the fights are good i can see myself liking for what it is. I hope we see Ralph in the next trailer, he must be insanely huge. I want to see if the rumor that the fights are "a la raid" style is thruth.
But yeah, for the ones that think that this is not full Bay, just watch the trailer again and see if any other name that his, is on the screen before the trailer ends.
Wasn't Raph the one being thrown into the car? It seemed like a Raph kinda move.
-
Yep you can see his sais. That said unless you get a good look at their weapons it seems tough to ID the turtles in action scenes. I think they so much bigger then I'm use to that the masks seem smaller.
…no. No we don't.
I am completely fascinated by how people are so hellbent on villifying Micheal Bay. I get that the guys a pompus ass and has made movies people don't like, but this thing where people are associating everything they don't like in this trailer directly to him is ridiculous. Steven Spielberg was the Producer for the Transformers movies, yet you don't see people complaining about how Spielberg ruined their childhoods or destroyed franchises they hold dear. No that's the great Satan, Micheal Bay:Raper of Childhoods (tm). Yet while his name is associated in the same way with this movie at Spielberg's was with Transformers, he gets the same blame as he did when he was the director bringing his vision to the screen.
Maybe we are being a bay haters. But is it without reason? 10 seconds into the Trailer we see in bold letters MICHAEL BAY meanwhile the director's name is in the last second final name on a list almost an afterthought. Heck I never knew Spielberg produced Transformers, but looking at the trailer MICHAEL BAY is there once again in the forefront.
And you can't deny the pattern. Bay works on a project dear to our hearts and at the end of the day we in tears. Of course we going to focus on him.

Obviously the concept art of the movie was probably spot on with the source material. We've had plenty of films that have done the same thing. Here's hoping they actually let the people who worked on the art put out what they sent in as a pitch. I wanna know what could have and should have been.
Fantastic artists, poor art direction.

I dunno, I thought I saw Leonardo's blue mask in the scene. If it was Raph you'd think his red mask would stand out a little more.

I'm 90% sure it's Raph. The mask is just a very dull dark red instead of the classic bright red. And he's clearly holding Sai's when he hits the truck.
These masks are really tiny and dull colored in general. Granted it makes them more stealthy, but it's suppose to be our main form of IDing them. We're willing to suspend our disbelief so we can tell who's who.

IGN did a Rewind Trailer:
http://www.ign.com/videos/2014/03/27/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-trailer-1-ign-rewind-theaterCouple things stand out:
1. Foot Clan now is more of a Black Ops team with guns. Goddammit.
2. Eric Sachs is going to be Shredder. Which we knew, but still. White dude as Shredder, instead of Oroku Saki. Guh.
3. April does have her yellow jacket.
4. The science lab that produces the ooze is TCRI like the comics, not TGRI like the second movie.
5. The turtles now have more armor and gear on them. Sheesh.
6. Signs of the Foot breaking into the turtles lair?
7. Will Arnett playing Vernon Fenwick, April's camera man from the old cartoon. (I don't remember him. Should I?)Mmmmkay, so . . . some okay stuff, but . . . . the Foot Clan as Black Ops? The turtles wearing armor? Aaaaaaaack.
-
7. Will Arnett playing Vernon Fenwick, April's camera man from the old cartoon. (I don't remember him. Should I?)
Snooty guy. Less memorable than Irma, but… they're both characters that belong in the 80's cartoon only.
(though I think the new show has Irma?)
-
With the CGI and how bland-green the Turtles looked, and with this movie in 3D, and with most of the scene during the night… THIS IS GOING TO BE A NIGHTMARE TO WATCH
Especially if we'll get some "Bay chaos camera" during the action scenes.

Sign of the times I guess I mean how many Black Ops soldiers do you see wielding Katanas and Shurikens?.

THEY SHOULDN'T BE BLACK OPS THEY SHOULD BE NINJAS.

Ohhhhhhh. That guy. And yes, Irma is in the new show, but I think they made her more of a quasi-goth chick than a wimpy nerd.

Ugh. You're right. Even the scene on the mountainside is almost impossible to decipher in full daylight.
-
THEY SHOULDN'T BE BLACK OPS THEY SHOULD BE NINJAS.
If this were still the 80's or 90's where ninjas were practically in every action movie I'd agree.
-

These are the goddamn NINJA Turtles we're talking about here.
If you don't want to do ninjas, then don't use the foot clan. They HAVE MIB, black ops, cyber criminals, time travelers, aliens of all shapes and sizes, dinosaurs, forces of nature and super criminals to choose from. They have other things in their 30 year history of hundreds of comics and three different tv series that can be Black Ops that aren't the Foot Clan.
-
I'm guessing that while they're moving away from certain aspects of the franchise for one reason or the next they want to retain other aspects and handle them in a way that would make someone want to tear out their hair.
-
I showed the trailer to my mom and sister, they're reactions were pretty funny. My sister just cried, "eeeeeewww!" and, "Why are they so big?!" when she saw Leo and Mikey and my mom just asked me why they made them so ugly xD
By the way, my mom surprised me today when we were talking about TMNT she told my sister that she'd watch the old movies with my brother and I and she was able to name April and her actress without thinking about it.
I saw these fan edits on NeoGaf:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=106085363&postcount=1039Gotta say, I prefer both to the way Shrek actually looks. They're not perfect, but definitely an improvement..
Then there's this:
Haha.
Oh, an another official image:
They all look really bad besides Leo, though his right eye looks kind of weird. It looks almost like he's winking. They all look way too old to be called teenagers, too
As for my opinion on the trailer, I thought it was OK. Nothing really stuck out positively besides the mask joke at the end. The turtles seem to animate very nicely, too.
Shredder talks weird and I don't like that they made him an American. I don't have any strong opinions on Megan Fox, besides that she wouldn't be my first choice for April. The turtles seem too heavy. When they landed you could hear the ground cracking under them, which seems a bit unfortunate for ninjas xP I also don't like that the Foot is just an army instead of ninjas.
The most annoying thing about the trailer, though was that the Turtles themselves weren't in it enough.
-
I didn't mind the looks, the darker theme and so on of everything.
The only thing I hated was how Bayish the action was. It was like the transformer movies, too damn fast paced and stuff going on that its hard to tell what exactly all happened. I like my karate movies in bright daylight and not camera moving super fast changing angles ect so that I feel like I could rewatch it and learn the moves. I never have or will, but I like to be able to see the moves and admire them. This was all just a jumped mess.
Now mind you it was a trailer and thus one could even argue a "teaser" of sorts and they always like to hide things. So maybe when it is released it will let me admire the martial arts performed and be a great movie I can watch with other good karate movies I love.
-
Did they ever say why they decided to make them so big? I always liked that they were all around 4.5 feet tall, it supported the idea that they could be sneaky and actually fit down sewer holes.
-

http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/eb/8d/72/eb8d722ae2bea1ba62ca257870cf059c.jpgThis and the one Rob posted definitely works more.
If they absolutely needed nostrals, Dave Rapoza's designs worked, and I'm completely surprised they didn't come to him for a offer.!

sniff So . . . . beautiful. Why can't the creators/Bay see the beauty? Especially the second one, it looks perfect.
The poster pic . . . . . geh. Only Leo looks remotely close.

….Do Raph and Don have yellow beaks?
-
@RobbyBevard:
….Do Raph and Don have yellow beaks?
I think that might be war paint or something of that sort. It looks terrible, though…
-
So rumor has it the movie is being delayed to December, due to massive reshoots.
-
"Reshoots" aka "scrabbling to make-up for the massive fan outrage to the trailer."
-
a seamonster ATE MY ICECREAM!!!!
-
Michael Bay says the rumor that it's being pushed back is false.
-
He has been known to straight up lie before.
('Megatron is NOT in Transformers 2")
In other Ninja Turtles news: Revoltech has announced and shown photos of the super poseable new Turtles based off the Nick show. They look fantastic and have nifty accessories also!
-
Damn, those look amazing. I'd love to own the whole set…
-
Wow those look way more detailed than the Playmates figurines.
-
While i love the look of the first wave of playmates turtles, these guys will have far superior articulation.
-
is voicing Splinter, the Yoda-like creature that teaches chop socky technique to the turtles.
Bad writing is bad writing.
-
I don't who know guys are, so, shrug.
-
Tony Shalhoub, why are you attaching your good name to this pile of crap!?
-
Tony Shalhoub, why are you attaching your good name to this pile of crap!?
Why did Bill Murray do Garfield?
It's probably good $$$ for like, 6-12 hours of voice-over work.
That said… I've liked Shalhoub since his days on WINGS... but I can't imagine him as Splinter. At all.
-
schalhoub is an interesting voice choice for splinter
-
There's a theory that April's missing father is going to end up being Splinter, so from that perspective Monk makes sense.
-
Tony Shalhoub, why are you attaching your good name to this pile of crap!?
Hey he was in Men In Black 2, the first three Spy Kids movies, Cars 2, & Movie 43 not like he hasn't been in some weak or outright awful movies.
-
@Rob:
Why did Bill Murray do Garfield?
He claimed it was a mistake and he thought he was signing on a Coen film (as in the Coen bros.) rather than a Cohen film, but he might be making that up.
-
That just reads like bullshit.
