Even if Oda is going for a rainbow theme we don't really need to look at the colors that much since most characters have unique color themes. There are enough hints in the manga for readers to speculate who might join next.

If we divide the crew members into three groups.
1. Group of members who had their joining foreshadowed because of a vital position that needed to be filled.
Nami/Navigator

2. Group of members that Luffy decided to add for strength or Oda decided to add for storytelling reasons.
Zoro/Swordsmen - Luffy said he would ask Zoro to join if he was a good/strong guy.
Usopp/Sniper - Crew hinted they needed a ship, Luffy showed some interest in Usopp since he recognized his name from all the times he heard Yassop mentioning him. Usopp clearly said he wanted to become a pirate like his dad. After Usopp joined he instantly became one of the most resourceful members of the crew since he had a grab bag set of skills. Painter/marksmen/inventor..etc There are parallel match ups between Shanks/BB. Luffy said he will gather a crew who will surpass Shanks..what better way to do this then to add Yassop's son to the crew!
Robin/Archaeologist - Oda needed some way to tell the readers about the Void century. Knowing how to read the ancient tablets could play a huge role in a world like One Piece. There were several ambiguous moments with Luffy/Robin where Luffy's life was saved and an in depth story was foreshadowed for Robin.
3. Group of members that Luffy wanted to add because of his own personal interest
Brook/Musician - Luffy said he wanted a musician from the get go. Not an essential position but something Luffy clearly wanted. Brook's story tied in nicely with Laboon as well so that just made his joining that much sweeter.
Nami/Sanji/Brook foreshadowed to join in CH 8 pg 3. Luffy says he needs someone who can cook and someone who can sing. Zoro points out he doesn't know how to navigate, and that they need someone who knows how to navigate.

I think Usopp was foreshadowed right before we got to Syrup Village on CH 23 pg 3. Nami said they need to plan things out more, the crew is short on crew members, and they need more equipment. They also said they needed a Ship. Usopp had a lot of gadgets and when he joined he joined with a huge bag of things…

For Group 3..There could be various Luffy related reasons someone might join. This can complicate things and make predictions more difficult since anyone can come up with a reason why "Character A" might join. However I would like to add that Usually Luffy announces that he wants such and such type of thing on his crew…for whatever personal reasons he has. Well Oda probably has a reason for this and might take a certain interest and weave it into the story somehow..like he did with Brook.
Just for the sake of being fair..I'll list some of the candidates who might fit in Group 3..disregarding the fact if I think the character might join or not.

I thought that Monet might join Law's crew before she got stabbed in the heart. Law seems like he has a winter island theme with his crew.
I think characters like Brook, Franky, and Robin need someone that can have great chemistry with them.
To be fair, Franky and Robin have shown great chemistry with each other throughout Enies Lobby, Thriller Bark, and Punk Hazard. Oda just doesn't exploit this relationship nearly as much as Zoro/Sanji, Usopp/Chopper, etc.
But yeah, Brook needs someone to bond with.

I feel there are a lot of missed opportunities with Robin's character. Even if Robin doesn't get one on one fights Oda could have let her in on some tag team matches. Like in Thriller Bark when she was fighting along side Chopper…or briefly when she was fighting along side Nami. This arc I was hoping to see Robin fight along side Usopp but she had to get turned into a toy. Robin is strong but more due to technical reasons. Her being an assassin in the world of One Piece is putting her in the sidelines.
Yes, I pointed out that Robin/Franky have great chemistry..I also think that Jinbe could have great chemistry with Robin. Chopper also included. Sometimes Usopp. lol well the chemistry is there but like you said it doesn't get exploited as much.

This is why I thought the color theory might not be the best way to figure out who might join next..the world of One Piece isn't lacking when it comes to colorful characters..so it doesn't really narrow things down. I like Bart's color scheme but I can't see him as anything but a fanboy. Just my opinion but I don't think character's like Bart or Rebecca will be joining Luffy's crew. Rebecca and Bart both get some cool points for their Voice Actors but that's bout it. I was surprised when I found out that Rebecca's voice actor is Megumi Hayashibara. She's the voice behind characters like Faye Valentine(Cowboy Bebop), Female version of Ranma…and Young Genkai from Yu Yu Hakusho...damn that is a very impressive resume.

after just joining this forum, i have no idea what im doing, nor do i think this is the place to be posting theories on one piece. however, being as this thread is speculating future crew mates i will be speculating one piece story theory. after re-wating the Enies lobby arc for the second time and viewing robin's past, i formulated a theory that i think is rather good. I'll just go right into it. I found it rather strange that luffy would make friends with or form alliences wherever he went, almost like he was building a kingdom. i remembered the lost kingdom and how not much is known about it. i also remembered the strange "D" initial in some characters and how the world government thinks them "infamous and dangerous people". i thought that possibly the D inital pretained to the royalty of this lost kingdom and that posibly, Luffy is the Heir to this throne. the ponegyphs were placed around the world by people belonging to this kingdom, all knowing that the world government would soon overtake them. the kingdom's name? One piece: reffering to the country's unity. also being roger';s treasure, for he was the previous ruler of the D initial.

I don't know where the Dark come from, but in my opinion the only clour we can associate to him would be green red, they are the colours of his jolly roger.

I want to add that the crew has a "Princess can't join SH syndrome" mainly because they're princess (Vivi & Shirahoshi) and it would be bad for the image of the kingdom if they become pirates. However an exception can be made to Rebecca since she isn't known as a legit princess of dressrosa, since DD took over. The only question is whether will the people of dressrosa accept her as a princess, and would start her princess duties after the successful campaign against DD? Or would she venture the sea if TS/Kyros die, leaving his will/fighting spirit to Rebecca? There could be some twist that might play in the future chapters. Til now I could only speculate.

Yeah I looked through the color spreads including the one you mentioned. That one is honestly the only one with the designated crew colors (at least since like Franky joined). No the young SH's have different colored numbers. Young Brook has a black shirt but adult Brook has a black & white shirt. Also adult Sanji is wearing a blue shirt underneath his jacket which he hasn't appeared doing since pre-TS. Adult Robin is also wearing a black dress but her glasses are purple.
I personally think that if Jinbe joins he'd probably get the color grey. Some of his hair is starting to grey and the color is often associated with old age and wisdom at least in the West. I think it'd be interesting to read about Japanese interpretations of colors.
I think given the colors already taken I'd say we should probably have either a grey, some kind of purple (more accurately another color between blue and red), and/or maybe a light green (like a yellow-green). Looking at Zoro's green color in some media his green is already kind of light. With regard to another purple I imagine it'll probably be more red than blue since we already have a blue and light blue crew member. So I don't think we'll get indigo since that's pretty blue but maybe a violet or magenta?
I also don't think we'll get a crew member with the color brown (poop) or gold/silver/bronze since that's Roger's crew.

For unused colors, we still have maroon/dark red, brown (so what if it's poop? It's also chocolate, earth, wood, etc.), violet (maybe too similar to purple?), indigo/dark blue, olive…
Zoro's green is sometimes depicted as being pretty lime in color. I just don't see light green (or charteuse-green) fitting in there. Some kind of red-purple variation makes the most sense. Grey is still a possibility.
Also Brook is black & white.
I personally want to see a female join who represents the color green somehow. I just like the thought of the female trio having Orange, Purple, and Green as their colors.

Tell me something, what do you think will happen to the people of Dressrosa after all the toys are back to normal and Doflamingo has been defeated?
Honestly, I don't think Doflamingo will be defeated by Luffy in this arc, too fast and too easy. If you think about it, DD's power is at least on par with Aokiji since he managed to free himself when he got frozen. However I'm confident that the toys will turn back to normal because Oda knows for certain that we wanted to see Kyros in his awesome human form (minus one leg if it has been cut when he was still in his human form).
As of now, I still have no idea what might happen when everyone turn back to normal since:
a. Navy surrounds the area, will they side with King Riku's army for true justice, or will they continue to protect DD's atrocity (because of his status)?
b. CP0 is there, still doesn't have a clue what they're up to.
c. Will the 'King Riku's' army and the Colosseum fighters/gladiators rally themselves with the remaining strawhats vs DD's crew that might force them to withdraw from dressrosa?
I don't know, just my thoughts as of now.

Yeah the princess have failed to join and they were strangely similar to Nami's character. Vivi and Nami got along..Shirahoshi/Nami even pointed out how they felt comfortable around each other.
This is completely random but..
Also notice how the princesses both had a pet animal that could have represented one of the straw hats. Oda in an SBS mentioned what animals the crew members would be represented as. Zoro = Shark and Sanji = Duck..
Vivi had a pet duck
Shirahoshi had a pet sharkI wouldn't be surprised if the DR princess has a Bull for a pet…Ucy? Notice the horn shaped pattern on the former king's helmet.
If Ucy happens to be Rebecca, or Viola's pet, that should be an interesting theory and a pattern to Oda's Princess characters in relate to the strawhats.
He didn't. If I recall correctly the artist behind those figures chose the animals him or herself.

Oda should've given Sanji the color yellow. Recently, Sanji's outfit color is being matched up with his hair color which is yellow.
I wonder if Oda really gives a damn about those colors.
I don't know how much he used them in images and spreads, so I am only aware of the SBS and looking at that I feel like he only gave them colors because a fan asked which color would fit each SH, not because he actually had thought about that beforehand.

Doflamingo was able to break out, but was left breathing hard. Kuzan didn't pursue the matter (and wasn't trying to pick a fight in the first place, merely to save Smoker), and Doflamingo did an immediate 180 degree about-face (from openly defying what Kuzan told him, to "ehhh I don't feel like fighting you"). I don't really see how you see "at least on par" there, or even nearly on par.
Sorry, Doflamingo is going down this arc, and going down hard. It'll be a great way to push Luffy beyond his current limits, though.

Just for comparison, here's Zoro recovering himself from a basic Admiral attack. By your logic, he should be as strong as Doula, and Luffy is stronger than Zoro.

If I was to draw something with Robin I would use purple, not because it was stated to be her official color or anything like that, but because purple is the color that goes on her design, like pink with Doflamingo, purple with Magellan…
To me, that image just shows that each SH has colors that are characteristic to them, like characters as a whole usually have, not that there is a set rule regarding colors and that each SH design had that take into account (therefore it would be relevant when guessing who the NN could be).

You know, the fact that Oda chooses what he puts in the SBS should be evidence that he does care for those trivialities to an extent.
He has no obligation to choose colors, nationalities, animals, etc. for each Straw Hat, but he still does it.

Good post but I think you're focusing too much on the scientific theory and artist theory of color, rather than say popular understanding of colors and cultural significance. Most people would just file "spring green" and "chartreuse" simply under "green". People group colors into major categories: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, brown, white, gray, black, etc. Franky is light blue which as I said earlier you could probably also call it cyan/aquamarine/turquoise which are all really similar and distinguishable from regular blue.
I think the real problem though, talking about colors, is that we don't really define very well for ourselves the colors at the end of the spectrum beyond blue or colors between the blue-red wavelength. Indigo, violet, purple, magenta are all different colors but my concept of those colors aren't very well defined. The way I see it: Indigo is mostly blue with some purple, Violet is less blue and more purple, Purple, Magenta is some purple and some red. I'd probably just file all that under purple even though Indigo and Magenta are obviously very different colors. Our understanding of the theory of colors such as Newton's ROYGBIV or RYB primary colors have been proven to be incorrect. The most accurate would be additive primary color model (RGB) or subtractive color model (CMYK) and that's not even taking into account hue, saturation, etc.
Overall I think if any person gets a non-gray color, it'll be some combination of blue and red. Maybe it'll be close to indigo, violet, or magenta? I'm not really sure but I'm pretty confident it'll be somewhere in there.

I guess another point of interest would be if Oda is basing his colors off Western or Eastern interpretations of colors. I know Red is the traditional color for protagonists in Japan but yellow is associated with cowardice in the West ("yellow-bellied") while in the East the color is considered sacred.
CH 303 pg 17 and 18 Luffy said he wants to upgrade Merry and get a Shipwright. Maybe its just the translations but they did say "Super upgrade for merry"…SUPER! Franky...

Of course he won't stick with the same colors for characters when coloring, but he does have colors associated with certain characters.
Just because he associates blue with Sanji, it doesn't mean Sanji has to wear blue.

Actually I did a research about that before and it was clear to me that he's not struggling as what you guys are pointing out. Do you know why Doflamingo is panting? It's because he can't breath when he got frozen, since he is still conscious when he received that attacked. If he's not at least in the level where he should be, then he won't be coming back. Now answer this, can you breath fresh air if you get frozen? Of course not… You see the simple logic there? I do hope so.
Did Fujitora froze Zoro? I don't think so, Zoro just counter attacked and managed to avoid falling from that hole. So I don't see your point in comparing Kuzan's power and Fujitora's.
