The major problem that I see with the series is the fact of world building and bad use of characters.
World building:
The guy fucking joke with the readers. Than he show us a freaking map divided by countries and ninja villages, but then do practically nothing with it! Fucking Lord of the rings was only one adventure and it showed over 9000 more stuff than fucking Naruto.
He shows level of Ninjas: Genin, Chunin, Junin and hokage, but then do practically nothing with it! He shows level of Client missions: S, A, B, C, D, and then do practically nothing with it! He shows specialized groups of Ninjas: Medical, Anbu, and than do practically nothing with it!(I not talking about Sakura curing, I'm talking of exploring more those specialized groups, for example showing Sakura in a mission given to the medical ninjas).Bad use of Characters:
So we have four categories of Ninjas: Genin, Chunin, Junin and Hokage. We know that each year, a new group of Genin appears. We know that two times a year, a new group of Chunin appears. To add to the mix we have Specialized group of Ninjas, Medical ninjas, Anbu and Anbu Root. All that but Kishimoto doesn't add practically nobody into the secondary or even main characters? Well, only Yamato, Sai, Danzo and and 3 or 2 guys with Danzo. To make things even worse he doesn't even give proper characterization and screen time to the already known staff.He promised so many stuff but didn't developed any of them. Looking at the Naruto world and it seems it has nothing but a triangle of interest: Naruto after Sasuke, Sasuke after Akatsuki, Akatsuki after Naruto. That was basically everything that was shown in part 2, but don't get me wrong part 1 isn't that good either, and at least half of part 2 I really enjoyed. Part 1 goes from one ninja mission, to a Chunnin exam, to a hokage hunt, to a Ninja retrieval. While each part, looked individually was pretty great(just like most or at least half of part 2) together they make little to no sense and don't show any world building nor good use of characters.
Part 1:
Zabuza mission -Passing to the next stage to fast -> Chunnin Exam -Taking the Kyubi out of the village when protecting it is the priority is super stupid-> Hokage Hunt -Sasuke betrayal was stupid, sending kids to retrieve him more stupid-> Ninja(Sasuke) retrieval-The promise that Naruto wasn't able to accomplish, for some reason keeps up. Jiraya gives a super good advice to Naruto, to forget about retrieving Sasuke, but Naruto keeps the idea by saying one of the stupider things ever "If that's what it means to be wise … I'd be happier living as a fool..."-> End Part 1. -
All right. Let me type out my interpretation of the chapter. In the beginning, the Sage spread chakra which was supposed to unify the people by letting them understand each other. He guided the people who recieved this newfound power, but eventually the people figured out how to combine it with the physical energy they already mastered. The result was ninjutsu which only escalated the violence as stated in the story of Kaguya and the Sage. The power did not connect everbody's hearts because of all the fighting that had been going on. I believe when Obito and Naruto met inside Obito's head it was them using the chakra's original purpose. The children of these people who received the chakra also developed it, and began to strive for its original purpose subconsciously, but at the same time they were involved in wars which taught them to hate, so when they did form bonds they did not understand them, ergo the contradiction. I am sure that the "high level ninjas being able to understand each other through their fists" thing mentioned earlier in the series is somewhat related to this.

Speaking of world building, character usage and client missions, when was the last time that actually a client appeared that was not a ninja? The last time I remember was during the Zabuza arc where both sides (Tazuna and Gato) hired ninjas.
Wasn't it supposed to be so that most of the people of the world actually are not ninjas - and only a very few are who live in some hidden villages? Konohagakure means "Hidden Leaf Village" after all, though I better stop thinking about it…

Yeah, Naruto might have been a lot better if Kishi didn't go straight to main plot with part 2. There was so much space to explore the world, all the different villages and towns, those post apocaliptic abandoned buildings, mutated animals, intricate politics and balance between countries. And Naruto might have progessed through missions, not through training arcs lasting couple of days. He could have learned at least a couple of wind jutsus. He might have joined Anbu and worked on special missions. He could have become a Jonin. He could have worked with other Konoha 11 more. We might have had a final confrontation with at least 18 year olds with real battle experience.
Or maybe OP just spoiled me and I want more from every manga? Say it ain't so.

I was a big Naruto cheerleader in the early part 2 years. Overtime my enthusiasm for the series dropped considerately. I completely stopped reading it months ago

Naruto's biggest fault isn't an unexplored world or limited mission sets. It's the underdevelopment of its popular secondary characters after Part 1. Rock Lee, Neji, Hinata, Gai, Akamaru, Shino, etc… Many fans might have others but those are the main ones. After Part 1 Kishi focused too much on Naruto and Sasuke until they were stale, and what made it worse was the fact that he had fresh secondary characters we were eager to catch up on. When they finally show up after long stretches of time it was only to bask in Naruto's light and just watch the developments while their characters never developed.
I'm not saying the unexplored world and limited missions weren't a problem, but I see Kishi's apparent lack of interest in developing his characters beyond being awed by Naruto more problematic.

Yep, Akatsuki actually had the potential to be the Shichibukai or Ryodan of Naruto. There were ruined pretty early in part 2 though by Sakura beating the puppet guy, the "avenger" Sasuke beating Deidara, Tobi being a fucking nuisance and Kakuzu being a complete idiot against Naruto. Shikamaru beating Hidan was in itself a good fight but the implications were not too great either. These guys were supposed to be the creme de la creme of top s class missing-nin like purple hermit already said but they got owned left and right by small fries.
Makes me think, what if Akatsuki wasn't a series of S class ninja, but just young non-imortal screwups from villages recruited by pain, that have abilities that matches perfectly what he needed to capture the tailed beasts? Take deidara, being a random crazy kid from the rock village, stole the explosive clay jutsu, and it's the easiest way to blow up Gaara, or pupet guy, instead of the old master of puppets, move his story closer to the present, his parents died, made pupets out of them, stole ancient sand puppets, started experimenting in himself but not to the point of "only my heart is real".. ghhh. Also he was needed as I don't know.. one of the beast is an genjutsu expert and he can attack them out of range with the puppets.

That would actually work of course. Since the Jinchuuriki were not protected that well anyway, the thing Akatsuki needed most was just powers to beat them but then again, regarding the confrontation with other ninja, they would have a problem (not that them being s class ninja actually helped in the end^^).
Like Purple already pointed out, Akatsuki actually worked when Itachi and Kisame "attacked" the village. I mean, Kakashi, pretty much the strongest Konoha ninja we knew besides the Sannin, was traumatized by fighting Itachi while Kisame was easily able to handle two Jounin. In Part 2, it was a huge disappointment though, like the entire Part 2 in itself.

Akatsuki's problem was that they got hyped up way too much.
With the amount of strength presented, there was honestly no way you could believe that a bunch of chunin level ninja could handle these supposedly monstrously powerful criminals without either gimping them or making the result unbelievable. Overall, Kishi tends to lean towards the former.
For example:
-Sasori takes the hug full on
-Itachi actually has been a crippling shadow of his former self for a long time
-Nagato also actually been a cripple this whole time
-Kakuzu just stands there waiting for Naruto to power up his rasen shuriken
-600 billion tags and an izanagi later… -
I think Part Two really needed one or two build-up plots before Kishi dove into the Akatsuki stuff. Instead we get the Gaara Rescue arc straight off the bat. And yeah, generally just a lot of them weren't very threatening and went out really stupidly. That, and there needed to be a better scope of strength, which is really a problem for Part Two in general.
-Sasori: Not terrible, I guess. He was built up as a legitimate threat, though his backstory was the typical schmaltzy stupid stuff, and then he subconsciously killed himself.
-Deidara: Really more annoying than threatening. And then he randomly runs into Sasuke and then Kishi invents this rivalry between him and Itachi to give him some last-minute motivation, and then he blows himself up for no reason.
-Hidan: I didn't think he was that bad. At the very least, someone other than Naruto or Sasuke took him out.
-Kakuzu: Eh, whatever. Pretty boring honestly, and then he acted like an idiot while fighting Naruto. Also, he and Hidan had these weird arbitrary powers that were never explained.
-Itachi: LOL
-Kisame: My god what a disappointment. Just…what even was this guy? He hung around forever and then got killed off in some random rushed final battle with Guy.
-Konan: Typical female jobbing
-Pain/Nagato: And the unbelievably schmaltzy parallelism comes full force. Also, totally wasted potential for other characters to fight the multiple Pain bodies.

I really liked Akatsuki. I liked that they came in pairs instead of just one big baddie and some minions. I thought the implication of one of them was extremely dangerous but two of them working together was monstrous. But I don't think any of them actually worked together. They all had amazing abilities which i feel never got the attention they deserved but also almost all of them died to plot. Deidara's death was the moment that i realized this was just going to be a shit show from now on. He was a tactician, a really skilled thinking ninja who put as much time into his bombs as Sasori put into his puppets but OH plot met sasuke and suddenly a ninja who should be a genius forgets common things like lightning beats rock and some other stupid eye shit and w/e the loss was so contrived and nonsesical and then the whole Sasuke has no chakra left but still manages to summon the most powerful snake summon and teleport away…UGH

Pain is the same way, too. In the sense that Kishi decided to forego any sense of believable plot and weave in this really convoluted lore.
In this manga, you basically have to be connected to famous people in one way or another. Sure, we all were applauding Naruto when he took out Neji despite not having affinity for anything. But then, well, the obvious Naruto bloodline, we've got
-It turns out the final boss isn't some unknown but actually an Uchiha
-The akatsuki boss also happened to have been raised by Jiraiya. Oh and did I mention that he was an uzumaki of some sort?
-Also he got his eyes from magical eyeball surgery from an Uchiha.
-That random phenomena of the kyuubi coming in and wrecking shit? yeah that was an uchiha responsible for it
-Karin is also an Uzumaki but has been hiding her powers the entire time. I guess it's hinted by her red (but really black) hair
-The Uzumaki were apparently this really big clan that was actually distantly related to, guess what, an even bigger and more broken clan, the Senju.
-Ergo, 3/5 hokage are derived from the same bloodline. Nepotism, much? Sure other villages have a few father-son lineages but 3/5? Forget those konoha 11 kids who weren't Naruto, they never stood a chance from the beginning.
-And then the Senju and the Uchiha turn out to be related to the messiah
-And to get messiah powers, you need to obtain cells from both clans, whatever that means.Edit: I forgot that Minato actually isn't part of the Uzumaki clan. But when the mantle is passed to Naruto, well, he gets thrown back into the nepotism business.

Naruto just suffered from a lot of the same things that DBZ did when it went downhill.
Formerly important characters relegated to impotent spectators, the same attacks used over and over with only the slightest tweaks etc.
Death not really meaning anything is another problem with both series…however at least in DBZ's case, the method used to negate death was always a major plot device and not a convenient asspull like Nagoto's secret technique that revives everyone.
Naruto really comes into it's own by having it's head for firmly up it's own ass with the talk no jutsuing and the ridiculous twists that don't really make any sense. See the Itachi debacle for further details.

So to see Gai fighting Akatsuki and how hard it was, this was such a huge thing, the whole reflection in the water thing and how later Itachi put Kakashi out with his Sharingan (loved the stabbing with a sword for DAYS).
DAMN IT, now I'm angry. Kishi had such awesome stuff and fucked it up!

And no, it didn't. Never could understand the need of highly trained fighters to look their opponents in the eyes. You can predict movements just by watching hips and legs.

Yeah, you could but I think looking your opponent in the eyes gives some advantages (in real life). Like when Neji fought Hinata, he could supposedly read her thoughts/emotional state. In real life your eyes can illustrate what you're about to do or in which direction you plan to move. It could also be used as intimidation, I personally would be more on my guard with an opponent staring me in the eyes than checking out my legs and shit.

Yeah, you bring up some valid points but I was just saying there are some things you could read from the eyes, it just depends on the situation I guess.
The thing about Naruto was, I never did accept it as a ninja manga or a manga with a ninja theme. The sharingan was one of the many things wrong with it (one of the biggest offenders is Nardo himself). It would've been fine to keep it as a genjutsu trapper thing and as a limited mimic tool but Kishi just kept adding BS.

Wouldn't it have been better (and made more sense) if Amaterasu was an upgraded form of the normal fire technique Sasuke used back in the days instead of being one of his eye powers? its not like theres any obvious relationship between eyes and flames really. :L

Well I believe Naruto was the worst I witnessed till this day but similar cases are:
- Bleach(Just like Naruto but with a little less potential)
- Fairy Tail(Just like Naruto and Bleach)
- Yu Yu Hakusho(The two last arcs were totally trash(At a certain point I thought that the Black Saga would be my favorite arc of Yu Yu Hakusho, and then bullshit happened))
- Hitman Reborn(It became really bad)
- Shaman King(This is not by experience, but for what I hear other people saying).
- Neo Genesis Evangelion(The anime and the two first movies, the manga is pure Awesome and the later movies are good)
- Ubel Blatt(Even though I still have hope in this one)
- Gantz(Last arc was so bad)
- Hen(last "arc" was so bad. Funny thing, this is the other famous series by the creator of Gantz, and both have a pretty bad last arc).
- HunterxHunter(Lazy Togashi!)
- Nana(99.9% probability of not being complete and being in a totally anti-climatic part. Note that this series stopped at a time when the only most famous series was One Piece. Well, The title had really a lot more potential, but the author had a super serious disease and most probably will not be able to draw any more manga in her entire life, so I totally understand, but there is so many stuff that I want to know :( and it wasn't explained. So much build up and than nothing :( ).

Yazawa-sensei is still able to draw beautiful Christmas cards (imported the magazine just because of those) and I'm sure one day she'll return to finish that masterpiece of hers.

Being able to draw Christmas cards is not enough to have hope that she will someday return, she probably took 1 hour or less to draw them. Is a shame, she had a huge career in front of her, but(probably) not anymore. -
Kishi logic: Displays various elemental techniwues even introduces Temari, who uses wind style jutsu, reveals Naruto has wind chakra and gives him two fucking techniques which are just Rasengans. He even showed that people like Danzo know lots of different wind techniques. Sasuke has way more diversity. Even on Naruto's page on the wiki has maybe over 15 techniques that are Rasengans. Just once can Kishi get his hands of the Uchiha clan's dick and draw some new techniques.

I feel like, unless you have a bloodline limit or your clan specializes in one technique (like Shikamaru or Chouji's deal), you're basically doomed to very generic techs.
Thus, most families only specialize in one technique so that Kishimoto doesn't have to make things even more creative.

Well, he did learn how to make a bigger Rasengan and how to stop his chakra flow to free himself from Genjutsu. Which failed miserably against Itachi clone, yes.
The fact Jiraiya didn't teach him about chakra affinities is a humongous plothole in itself. When you think about it, end of first part Naruto was a lot more impressive then starting part 2 Naruto. Really poorly thought out.

Is it safe to say that maybe instead of that whole kakashi thing kishi was writting during the break, maybe he should have focused on developing part 2 more thoruoghly?

Shaman King definitely belongs on that list. To add to that list off the top of my head, D.Gray Man and maybe Psyren (I liked this series in its entirety but others may not see it that way, ever since a certain reveal.)
Psyren could be a lot better, but I think what it lacked was from the get go, so I wouldn't say it belongs to that list.

No he didn't! The only thing that he learned was to make a Odama rasengan that basically is a rasengan but bigger, gained more reflexes(that he should had before) and the knowledge that Genjutsu is repelled by contact(something that he should have learned at school). Ah, and the new Sexy no Jutsu.
Basically all the other time he was with Jiraya was in stripper's clubs, it seems.

It wasn't cancelled nor pulled. Is in hiatus, but contrary to Togashi, for a good reason.

I did too, but I really noticed that the quality of the story went down after the Noah invasion arc, which I think was the climax of the series. It's a shame what happened to the author, unlike Kubo and Kishi, it was kinda out of her control, with the arthritis and plagiarism lawsuits.

I like the whole series, but it did feel like something was "pulled out" when they revealed that it wasn't a game after all, just a test of sorts. And then there's the "aliens behind the whole thing" reveal and the ending was rushed. Yeah I guess it doesn't belong on the list, it was not bad but also not even close to OP tier either.
