Do anyone know that 'Aristotelis' who was an Ancient Greek
was teaching to his students about people of sky????
And he was killed because he made many theories about
the sky and the people who were leaving there!~!!!! =)
well what's your opinion abou that????
Ancient Greeks and Sky Islands…....

oda prob got the idea of sky piea off of that and norland was prob based off of him. good find.

I was under the impression that Aristotle died of a stomach illness. He was accused of impiety but it is generally believed that it was trumped up charge due to his Macedonian connections rather than any real impiety on his behalf.
I'm afraid I'm not sure which treatise you are refering to. It would be helpful if you could be a little more specific so we could make sure we were discussing the same part of his work.

As far as I´m familiar with it Aristoteles wasn´t executed. Sokrates was executed but it wasn´t because he was talking about people of sky. Actually
I´m not familiar with that part about people of sky but I assume that it probably has something to do with the greek gods that lived on the Olymp which was a mountain that reaches to the sky. If that´s the case then I doubt that anyone would have been executed back then for talking about that because this is what the people back then believed in. Plus Platon, student of Sokrates and teacher of Aristoteles is (to our knowledge today) the only one who spoke about Atlantis and he wasn´t executed because of that.
But since we´re on the topic of ancient civilizations I found it interesting that actually two gods names were used for Ancient Weapons in One Piece. Pluton is a roman god. Actually the ancient romans had the same gods as the ancient greeks they´ve just gave him roman names in order to fit their world.
Poseidon however is the greek name of the god of the sea (called Neptun in roman).
It is actually funny that Nico Robin even said in Skypiea that the weapons is named after the god Poseidon. This makes me wonder how much of that made it into One Piece.Atlas and Hercules are also two figures of ancient greek mythology. Atlas was a titan that was carrying the sky. And Hercules I think everybody knows was the son of Zeus. However in One Piece they are Kabuto beetles. To be honest, it wouldn´t even surprise me if they are some kind of deity´s in the OP world too and that this is what Luffy meant when he said that Atlas and Hercules are admired all over the world. He probably just catched the names and thought people were talking about Kabuto Beetles while they actually meant gods. It would be so Luffy if that was the case.
Speaking of that, does Miyama have a certain meaning? I mean is it also a name of something from asian mythology or not? Just curious since I´m not familiar with it.
BTW, I think this thread should go to the General One Piece forum.

Well, because i am Greek  and i know better from all in this forum
that 'Socrates'was teaching to his students about the people
who were leaving in the sky and in the underworld =) ,and tha's the cause
they killed him…..Also,Plato said that 'Poseidon' was the first person who was leaving
in 'Atlantis' and later Greeks made him 'God'!!!!!! =) and now
French explorers[no Kusto] have discovered the 'Lost Atlantis'in the middle of
Atlantic Ocean and confirmed for second time 'Platon' the Greek Philosopher who was called as 'God Philosopher'…..... :rolleyes:Finally, according to 'Plato' Greeks were fighting against Atlantic people in the sky and then Greeks destroyed Atlantic People to the land, because they gave their cilivization to Atlantic people and they tried to conquer meditteranean sea!!!!! =)

You need to take some spelling and grammar lessons. For example: It is Socrates, not Sokrates. It is Plato, not Platon. Third, I can't tell a word you're saying. Go to English 101 when you get in school and pay attention this time, okay?
-

And Ginkan you need to know that your knowledge is not superior to anyone else´s. He got Sokrates, Planton and Aristoteles from my last post in the Anime section. And these are the correct german spellings of the names. If it is spelled Socrates and Plato in english then it doesn´t make it more valid then the german spelling. If you want an example on that, then just ask people how the pope that died earlier this year is called in everybody country. I´ll make the start, in Germany he is called "Johannes Paul II".
I think you should get your information about such things right in the frist place before you start offending other people here. English a superior language you know.
@ Roronoa ZoroGR: I didn´t mean that you should make the same thread in this section. I was just suggesting that your original thread from the anime section should get moved here. That´s all.

just calm yourself, dude, it's platon in french and in a lot of other languages, even in old greek i think, and sokrates should be in old greek too.
i remember to you one last time that not every member has english for his mothertongue. do you know what respect his?

I appologise. I was unaware.
EDIT: The reason I posted that way is because on other forums, there are people who make absolutely no sense when posting and I guess I was a little hard.
-
OK, we shouldn't blame anyone for the difference in the names' spelling in various languages. And if you ask about the "correct" spelling, I'd say the one Roronoa ZoroGR used is the one, because he just used the "original" greek spelling, the way it's written(when "directly" translated) in the roman alphabet.
Now this whole theory about the "sky people", the "Atlantis" and Poseidon is one of the many theories and speculations that exist about the Atlantis, many of which, including this one, are a little too farfetched in my opinion…
Until today, nobody is 100% sure about where Atlantis was, who the people of Atlantis developped contact with and how this whole civilization came to its end. It is nice to speculate on this, but unfortunately nothing can be completely true for the moment. -

@Cap'n:
Wait a minute! How did that pass the 20 character limit?
-
the link was more than 20 characters?
-
So that did the trick. Maybe this 20 character thing should get reconsidered a little bit.
-
I always thought of Pluton as being a reference to Plutonium (the element) not Pluto (the God of the Underworld). Relate one WMD to another.
-
Since the other ancient weapon is Poseidon, also a god, it's probably inspired by Pluto though. Besides isn't it uranium they use for a nuclear bomb these days? =)
-
Well, there's another weapon called Poseidon.
@Ivotas:Wait a minute! How did that pass the 20 character limit?
BECAUSE VINCENT VANGHOUL WILLS IT.

'Miyama' is most likely: one of the 16 greatest angels in the divine army - it is referred to in this site http://www2.plala.or.jp/wani-san/briefsummary0.html but to be honest I'm not too sure what they are talking about. It is called the Reishu Taiju Series of the Reikai Monogatari. The religion is Oomoto and was formed in 1892 so it isn't really ancient…

Pluton is a roman god.
Greek and Roman actually. Pluton "The Rich One" was a polite formal name for Hades that you used to avoid offending him. To paraphrase Dende, you don't piss off the God of Death.
Pluton and Poseidon have been introduced so far; if Ouranous is the next one, then Oda is naming them after the planets in reverse order, in which case, there should be between nine and eleven of them, if Oda counts the Sun and Moon. If so, then we should see:
Pluton
Poseidon
Ouranous
Cronus
Zeus
Ares
Gaia
Aphrodite
HermesArtemis and Helios are two other possibilities.
-
Where does that new planet that was just found fit in? ;)

If you would have read the exact following sentence after that one that you´ve quote then you would be aware that I already know that.
Sorry if I sound a little bit pissed off, I´m not trying to offend you but it is annoying as hell to get a response that wouldn´t be there in the first place if people would actually read the whole thing. =( -
@jackvance:

Supposedly, they're calling it Xena, hopefully they'll come up with a better name than that. It seems a bit frivolous to name a planet after a television show, especially considering how that one astronomer rejected one little kid's suggestion that a newly discovered planet be named Namek after he found out where the name came from.

If you go back and read what I wrote, then you'll see that I did in fact read the entire message. The problem here is that this is in reference to Pluton, which is an alternate Greek name for Hades, not Roman (who simply call him Pluto).
I should have quoted more of it, but my point was not that you missed that the Greek and Roman pantheons were largely the same, but the fact that Pluton is a Greek name rather than Roman.

I see. Thanks for clearing that up because I understood it as you were saying that I´ve missed that Pluton is just the roman naming for the greek god. I stand corrected.
And as far as the god names are concerned, I´m really curious if it´ll be just ancient greek/roman gods or also some of the titans and halfgods. The kabuto beetle´s Atlas and Hercules really made me wonder if they were not another easter egg by the evil schemer Oda that we just didn´t notice.

Thanks for the info Vilia. Hmm, Atlas, Miyama and Hercules. All of them are divine names. Coincidence or intention?
-
I think they should call him 'Platon' because he was talking about
this planet 2300 years before…....!!!!! -
Merged the two "Greek and Sky People" thinggy threads and moved to General Discussions.

What about Phobos (One of Ares' 2 Sons) and Demeter/Saturn (God(ess) of the Harvest)? I could see Oda pulling something grand with Ares' 2 Sons similar to Sham and Buchi (Can't remember Ares' other son's name) and Demeter/Saturn having the ability to control plants via a devil fruit Kurama-style.
